Chapter Nine
~Inari's POV~
I woke in the early afternoon, took a shower and changed into some comfy leggings and an oversized t-shirt. I left my hair down to air dry and cleaned the apartment and made a quick grocery list of things to pick up for dinner. Checking my phone I laughed as I realized I had several missed texts from my landlord. There were a few pictures of Karen fuming at the front desk downstairs with the accompanying caption, 'Karen has not had her coffee this morning'. From the angle of the shot it looked like he was hiding behind the facilities manager's desk.
I stifled a laugh and looked through the other photos and got to one of a red faced Karen who looked like she was about to explode and the facilities manager looking like she was trying so hard not to laugh, it was captioned, 'did you threaten to walk around naked? I think Karen is secretly all for it.'. I tucked my phone away with a laugh and headed over to Kazuma's apartment.
He answered after a few light knocks, "did you burn the bunny costume?" He mused as he saw me in my normal attire. He looked a little tense which probably meant he had a delivery arriving today.
"It survived." I sighed. "I'm heading to the store, did you need me to pick anything up for you?"
He chuckled. "I have a delivery arriving soon, but they always mess up the produce, could you get me some leeks?"
"Sure. If your delivery is in the office when I get back I'll bring it up for you."
"You're a lifesaver." He smiled, his body relaxing. Even going down to the first floor lobby was a struggle for him.
"Always happy to help. I'll be back soon." I waved farewell and headed off to the store.
When I got to the lobby the facilities manager threw me an amused look, "what on earth did you do to Karen this morning?"
"Nothing." I smiled sweetly.
"She was hella flustered." The landlord laughed as he poked his head out from his office.
"It's bunny week at work." I sighed.
"Playboy or furry?" The manager pondered.
"...playboy..." I sighed.
"Nice." The manager and landlord high fived one another. I rolled my eyes at them.
"Has Kazuma gotten a delivery yet?" I asked.
"Nothing yet. Are you going to bring it up for him when it gets here?" The manager asked.
"Yeah, I'll get it, so please don't call him. It stresses him out." I begged.
"No worries. I know the drill." The manager smiled and waved me off.
"Awesome, see you later, losers." I stuck my tongue out at them and exited the building.
I got to the store and was happy to see it wasn't very busy. One huge plus side to my job was I was free to run errands while most people with 'normal' jobs were working. I got the leeks first, taking care to pick the most perfect ones I could find. Kazuma wrote a food blog and I knew he was very particular about his produce. After getting the leeks for Kazuma I went to get a few fresh salmon fillets so I could make some miso glazed salmon for dinner. As I reached for one of the trays of salmon, I noticed someone else reaching for the same one and turned. I nearly jumped out of my skin as I spotted Eraser Head standing next to me with a shopping basket tucked under his arm. His dark tired eyes widened as he realized who I was and he quickly withdrew his hand.
"This is a whole new level of stalking you creep." I hissed.
His tired gaze swept to my mostly empty basket then to his that was full of ingredients, "I think I was here first. I know I have some skills in tailing people, but I don't think I'm adept enough at stalking to know where you're going before you do." He smirked.
I felt my face flush with heat as I realized he was indeed correct and this time he was not stalking me. "Shouldn't you be in school?!" I hissed angrily, not liking that I'd been wrong and had misjudged him this time.
"My class had an early day." He shrugged.
"What do you mean? Aren't all the classes supposed to be doing a full day of orientation?" I grumbled.
"It didn't seem imperative that my class be a part of it, so we did something different." He noted before motioning to the tray of salmon we'd both tried to grab, "after you."
I cast another look at the ingredients in his basket and realized he had all the ingredients to make a miso glazed salmon and I threw him a scowl. "I changed my mind." I huffed and walked away. I had no idea why I was walking away or why I was suddenly irritated that my stalker who wasn't currently stalking me also had similar taste in food to me but now I had to change my dinner plan, for some reason I couldn't explain that made absolutely zero sense. I marched back to the produce section and picked up everything I'd need to make curry instead.
I sensed him approaching me from behind and spun around with a snarl, "now what?"
"I wanted to talk to you about your brother." He noted with a neutral expression I couldn't read.
"As I said before if you want to talk to me about my brother as a student you can pick up the fucking phone and call me. Also, as you are NOT his teacher you should have no business with him or me." I glowered back at him, getting increasingly annoyed by his unreadable expression.
There was a flicker of amusement in his dark eyes, "I just wanted to let you know, it is possible for him to transfer into the hero course...you were right, the test was unfair and some students may have slipped through the cracks..."
"I'm always right." I shot indignantly.
The corners of his lips twitched. "I have no doubt."
I bristled, that was definitely sarcasm!
"Great, you've said what you wanted to say, now go away." I huffed and angrily threw some carrots and potatoes into my basket.
He smirked as he watched me aggressively load my basket with ingredients I didn't want rather than make the same thing he was making as I had originally wanted to. "What's for dinner?" He pondered, amused.
"Curry." I huffed.
"You needed salmon for curry?" He pondered.
"No, I told you I changed my mind." I hissed.
"What were you going to make?" He mused.
"None of your fucking business." I bristled angrily and stormed away to find a curry mix.
He chuckled softly and followed me.
I turned around swiftly as he got too close and grabbed ahold of his hand. As I activated my quirk I noticed his eyes begin to glow and his hair stand on end and realized my quirk wasn't activating. I threw him a threatening look as I realized he'd somehow erased my quirk.
"It's illegal to use your quirk in public without a license." He pointed, his tone even and light with a faint trace of laughter.
"I have a license." I glowered.
"To use it on paying clients." He noted.
"Well I'd say you've stalked me enough I should start charging you." I huffed.
He chuckled, "as we've established, I was here first and therefore not stalking you."
"Yes, this time, but as we've also established, you have stalked me in the past." I pointed coolly.
His cheeks reddened at this and I felt a small sense of victory as I finally caught him off guard. He was so thrown off by my comment that he dropped his hold on me and I quickly activated my quirk as I was still holding his hand. I smirked as he was swept up in my quirk, completely at my mercy.
"Switch baskets with me." I ordered him. He handed me his basket and I took the leeks from my basket before exchanging it with his. "Thanks. Toodles!" I released him from my hold and headed toward the checkout with all of the ingredients I'd need to make my miso glazed salmon as I had intended and Kazuma's leeks.
Aizawa snapped out of it and stared dumbfoundedly at his new shopping basket before realizing what had happened, "Inari!"
I cackled and kept walking. "Inari 1, Stalker 0."
