Chapter Twenty Five
~Inari's POV~
::Flashback::
Inari-20
Hitoshi-13
Only a week in and I knew this job was going to be awful, but the pay was going to be amazing. My boss was a major creep. Other than the creeps at work, everything else in my life was finally looking up. A kind landlord took pity on me and set me and Hitoshi up in a nice apartment. My next door neighbor was a kind agoraphobe and was happy to watch over Hitoshi for me while I worked nights.
As I was leaving the club, I felt my heart drop into the pit of my stomach as I spotted two familiar people standing beneath a street lamp across the street. My shitty parents. I'd always feared this day would come, that they'd somehow come after us, that they'd somehow find us.
They waved me over.
Rage bubbled up inside of me. What the hell was this?
I hesitantly crossed the street.
"Inari, honey." My mother opened her arms for a hug. I dodged swiftly and put distance between us on the sidewalk before tapping my foot.
"What do you want?" I glowered at my father. He looked functionally buzzed, which was sometimes more dangerous. Functionally buzzed father always had big terrible ideas.
"We need some money." Father blurted honestly.
"...and we wanted to see how you and Hitoshi are doing." Mother added with a twitchy smile.
"Un-fucking-believable." I grumbled bitterly. " You pieces of shit aren't getting anything from us, ever again. You're not welcome in our lives."
"My only other option is to take out a loan from some loan sharks, if I do that I'll have to inform them of any family I have for collateral." That was a very clear threat. This was his plan. He thought he could extort me for money by threatening our safety.
The edges of my vision began to blur. There was a faint red haze spreading from the edges of my blurred vision as I felt an unquellable rage clawing its way to the surface. I took a step forward, my hands lashing out, lightning quick and clasped both their hands in a tight grip, my nails digging into their skin as I lost my composure. My quirk went insane.
"You lowlife pieces of shit, will be miserable together until the day you die. You're all you've ever had. You have no family. You have no children. You have nothing in this world but each other to perpetuate your fucking misery. You are a plague on this earth and you should stop bothering other people with your fucking bullshit." I seethed with rage as I gripped their hands tightly. Their eyes were blank and dazed as they were held under my control.
I stopped seeing at some point, everything was red then it was blazing white, as if my retinas had been burned after directly staring into the sun. I blinked a few times, slowly coming back to my senses. I felt dizzy. I glanced down at my hand, there was blood and skin beneath my fingernails, but it wasn't mine. My parents were nowhere to be seen.
"Inari?" Aizawa gently shook me awake from where I'd fallen asleep on the sofa. His tired dark eyes were filled with concern.
What had I done in my sleep? It had been a very long time since I'd dreamt of them. I slowly sat up. Not wanting to discuss it, I looked past him to the kitchen, "is dinner ready?"
His tired eyes narrowed a little as he looked me over trying to discern if I was alright. "It's ready."
"Oh good, I'll get the boys." I attempted to get to my feet, my knees buckled once I was upright and I fell back toward the sofa.
A strong arm hooked around me, keeping me upright. "It's alright. I'll tell them." Aizawa gently steered me to the kitchen and helped me into my usual seat before going to the boys' room to let them know dinner was ready.
I glanced at the table and the spread of food before me. It was a nice spread, there was rice, miso soup, a perfectly glazed miso salmon and some steamed vegetables drizzled in sesame sauce. There was a hurried shuffle sound and Aizawa returned to the kitchen a little red in the face and I snickered.
"Did you not knock?" I mused.
He scowled at me.
"Rule number one in a house with teenage boys, always knock." I smirked.
"I thought they were studying." He groaned.
"No, they're studying." I giggled.
"Well now they're traumatized." He sighed.
I choked on another laugh. "I'm sure they'll recover and be back to studying in no time."
Aizawa threw me another scowl before dropping into the seat beside me.
A moment later, Kaminari and Hitoshi stepped into the kitchen looking red faced and hurriedly put together before joining us at the table. I looked at all three of their red faces and held back a laugh.
"As adorable as you all are being with your awkwardness, it's not exactly great for conversation. Everyone has hopefully learned a valuable lesson about using locks and knocking." I smiled.
Hitoshi and Shota scowled at me.
Kaminari followed along and seemed to feel better about it as he realized he wasn't going to be chastised. "Lesson learned." He nodded, earning a scowl from Hitoshi.
After an amusingly awkward dinner, the boys retreated to their room and I laughed as I heard the door lock loudly. I got up to help Aizawa with the dishes but he folded his arms across his chest and fixed me with a stern glare.
"Sit back down." He ordered.
My pulse quickened and I dropped back down into my seat.
Aizawa smirked at this before turning to the dishes. We sat in a comfortable silence for a moment before he broke it. "What did you dream about earlier?" He asked quietly.
I chewed on my lower lip debating if I wanted to confide in him or not.
He waited patiently, not wanting to push or pressure me.
"...my parents..."
He paused and turned to me, his expression filled with concern. He looked like he wanted to ask more but felt conflicted not wanting to pry.
"They showed up after we first moved here, ambushed me at my job..." I trailed off.
"What happened?"
I clenched my fists only to wince as my healing burns protested violently. I eased my grip and looked down at the table. "I don't know...I lost control..."
Aizawa offered me a sympathetic look. "You should get some rest." He finished the dishes before moving to my side.
Before I could attempt to get to my feet, he swept me into his arms causing my breath to hitch in my throat and my pulse to quicken. I slumped into his arms feeling ready to collapse. It was suspiciously reminiscent of when Hitoshi had drugged me earlier.
I threw him a wary look, "you didn't drug me, did you?"
"You didn't give me a reason to, so no." He responded simply. "Your sleep earlier didn't look restful."
That must be why I suddenly felt so exhausted. He gently set me on my bed before handing me the bottle of painkillers and went to get me a glass of water. I took my meds as the pain in my arms began to worsen.
I worried my lower lip as Aizawa tucked me into bed. "...thank you for taking care of things today..." I murmured softly before rolling away from him as my face reddened.
He chuckled softly and gently pat me on the head before placing a kiss to my temple, "you're welcome. Goodnight, Inari."
"Goodnight." I mumbled as he took his leave.
