THEO STEPPED OUT OF the boy's locker room and was hit immediately with the smell of a wolf. But not just any wolf. He could pick out the hint of Luna's scent, but also her chemo signals. There was only one strong emotion he could make out. Fear.
He looked around to see if he could find the she-wolf and caught sight of her pale, blue hair flowing behind as she ran around the corner of the hallway. Before he could stop himself, Theo was running after her.
Scott and Stiles exit the locker room a few seconds after Theo disappeared around the same corner Luna had. The alpha had caught the scent of Theo and another wolf just as he'd stepped out of the doorway. He places his hand on Stiles' chest, halting his movements.
"Do you smell that?" Scott asks his human friend who obviously wouldn't be able to smell what he did.
"Someone's major body odor? Yeah," Stiles replies sarcastically with his face scrunching up in distaste.
"No," Scott continues, already used to his friend's never ending sarcasm. "I smell a wolf."
"Well, Theo did just come out of the-"
"It's not his scent." Scott's eyes met Stiles' as realization flickered through them. "There's another wolf in the school."
As Scott and Stiles look around at the students passing by them -- wondering if any of them were the new wolf -- Theo was closing in on Luna. The girl was shoving her way through the crowds of people as she tried to make it the front doors without hurting anyone seriously. Theo could hear her pants of breath, but knew it had nothing to do with the running she was doing. The emotion of fear was stronger than ever as he trailed behind. He just couldn't figure out what she was so afraid of.
Luna slammed into the front doors of the school, cursing once she realized they needed to be pulled open. Ripping the door open with a low growl, it slammed into the wall behind her and she took off down the steps towards her truck. She thanked all of the gods above that she had forgotten her keys in the vehicle while being too worried about not being the first person inside the school. As she reached the last step, Luna was suddenly aware of the footsteps slapping against the pavement behind her. This was it. Someone had figured it out. After years of keeping it quiet, her first slip up has ended with somebody chasing after her.
Theo noticed how Luna's pace quickened as she made it off the last step and how her fear peaked higher. She must've heard someone was following her and wanted to get away even faster. Which only raised Theo's curiosity of what was happening to her even more. Once he made it to the last step, she had already opened the door to an old, blue, pickup truck. Knowing there was no way he'd get to her before she peeled out of the parking lot, he stopped to watch her get into her truck.
For the second time that day, the two of them locked eyes. Only this time, Theo was staring into glowing, blue eyes and he was suddenly reminded of the last night he'd spent with Luna. When she'd shifted in the middle of the woods after sharing their first kiss.
Luna had a different reaction. Instead being overcome with shock as she did the first time, all she could think about is how nice it would feel to dig her claws through his flesh. To watch the blood drain out of the wounds and all over her hands. To feel the power surge into her body as the life rushed out of his.
A monstrous growl escaped her lips. She had enough control to turn the engine on and back out of the parking spot. Doing well over the speed limit, Luna peeled out of the parking lot and headed to the only place that would keep her contained.
Theo was left puzzled. Luna had nearly shifted in the middle of school with everyone around. After eight years of being alone, he'd thought she'd eventually figure out how to control her shifts. But clearly she hadn't. He saw the look in her wild, glowing eyes. It was almost murderous. Like she would have ripped his head off his body without a second thought. A smirk appeared on Theo's lips at the discovery.
"She might be useful to me again," he thought.
Luna knew she wasn't going to make it back to her house. The bones in her back were already grinding against each other and she still had ten minutes before she'd be able to pull into her driveway. Growling in pain, she saw a side road that would take her into the Beacon Hills Reserve. Her hands jerked the steeling wheel down and swerved the truck into the road. The tires drifted against the gravel almost making her lose control of the vehicle, but she twisted the wheel back the other way and regained the power in less than a second.
She drove a few yards deep into the reserve before pulling off to the side. The trembling of her hands caused her to fumble with opening the door. Once she was out, Luna all but ripped her shirt off and halfheartedly tossed it in the bed of the truck. The rest of her clothing followed suit and it wasn't long before she was on her hands and knees, completely bare.
The she-wolf clawed at the ground, whimpering as her bones grinded and reconfigured under her skin. The canines in her mouth grew longer and sharper. Less human, more wolf. Her long fingers shrunk and her thumb morphed into her index finger so they could properly turn into a paw. The bottom of her spine suffered the most pain as it stretched into a long tail. Her blue hair, now fur, spread over her body, covering every inch.
Tears brimmed Luna's eyes as her face grew a long snout and the shape of her head turned into something more of a wolf. She remembered how her mother had told her shifting into a wolf would be less painful as she got older and accepted what was happening to her. Before her family left, she hadn't understood why it would hurt for her then when she'd loved the idea of turning into a wolf. She'd accepted it the minute she'd found out why sometimes she woke up, after a blackout, in the middle of the woods naked. But after being alone for so long because of what she had done as a wolf, the resentment caused her rejection of the power. So much pain had built up and so every time she changed, the pain only got worse.
As the final part of her body shifted, Luna tilted her head back and howled.
The howl was so powerful and resonating, the pack and Theo had no trouble hearing the wolf's cry. Honestly, if the other high school students stopped to pay attention, they would hear her too.
Stiles leans over in his seat towards Scott, who had sat up in his seat right as the howling started, and asks, "Do you know who it is?" Scott shook his head as he concentrated on the tone of the howl.
"It must be the wolf I smelled earlier. But it's strange." Scott closed his eyes to focus on the sound.
"What? No. I don't like strange, Scott. Strange is never good. Strange usually ends very badly for us." Stiles wriggled in his seat nervously. The anxiety coming at an all time high.
"I don't think it's a bad kind of strange. It's just- the howl. I can tell how they're feeling." Scott looked over at Stiles as he figured out what was so different.
"How they're feeling? How in the hell is that possible? Can't anything in this town stick to the rules?" Stiles groans and leans back in his seat in annoyance. He takes a deep breath and exhales sharply through his nose. "Well, how do they feel?"
Scott's voice becomes soft and he furrows his thick eyebrows in concern.
"They're sad." Stiles' annoyed expression softens. "They're sad, but also filled with regret and guilt."
"Kind of like grief," Stiles finishes, his voice as soft as Scott's with a slight crack at the end of the sentence. Scott nods in agreement and the two boys slump into their seats.
The rest of the pack, Liam, Malia, Kira, and Lydia, are eager to talk to Scott and Stiles about the howling they'd heard. Some of them slightly nervous about what it could have possibly meant and who it could have been. Others were thinking of ways they'd need to track it and what'd they do if the owner of the howl was dangerous. All of them were on edge.
Theo had heard the same thing Scott did. The amount of grief poured into that one howl pierced right through him to his bones. He knew exactly how Luna was feeling because the same thing had happened to him. For the same reason it was happening to her. Only thing was it didn't bother him as much anymore. It'd been for a means of survival and being better so how could he feel bad for that? If anything, it just gave him more leverage to use Luna.
〰〰〰
Stiles and Liam are sitting outside Theo's house and have been for almost two and a half hours. The suspicion Stiles has for the boy leading him to drag Liam along in following him. Actually, it would've only been Stiles if Liam hadn't jumped into the jeep before Stiles could leave. So far, the only unusual thing Theo has done is play video games for three hours straight and just manage to get to level three of Assassin's Creed.
"Who lives there?" Liam asks, nodding over to the house next to Theo's. Stiles sighs but answers anyway.
"Luna Louve." Liam's face scrunches up in a cute, confused puppy sort of way.
"Who's that?"
"She's in my class," Stiles replies. Seeing as that didn't help clarify, he continued. "She's quiet, reads a lot, I don't think I've heard her talk besides answering questions when called on, um-" He stops to think about what he could say to make Liam know who he was talking about. "Oh, she's like the only girl in school with blue hair." Recognition dawns over Liam's features.
"I know her! She's hot." Liam nods as if to confirm his observation. "I mean, did you see what she was wearing today?"
Stiles laughs dryly, "Liam, you're a hormonal teenager. Anything with a pulse is 'hot' to you. Was she even in school today?"
"Ha, ha. You know, I could just go home now and let you stalk Theo all by yourself. And, yeah, I saw her getting out of her truck." Liam turns back to staring at Theo's house while quickly losing interest in the conversation.
"Huh." Stiles leans back in his seat as he remembers how Luna always seems to be parked next to the bike racks. Then, he remembers when he was younger he'd always see the flash of blue hair fly by him on a bicycle. She always had a smile on her face and a laugh bubbling out from behind her lips. Luna was never alone, though. There'd always been someone riding next to her. As Stiles thought about it longer, he remembered who it was.
Luna was not only neighbors with Theo. They were best friends.
Theo knew Stiles and Liam were outside of his house spying on him. He had seen Stiles' jeep the minute it pulled up to the curb across the street. Maybe if Stiles had borrowed Lydia's car, Theo wouldn't have even realized. So, he played video games for three hours straight even though he absolutely sucked at them. Even with the super human reflexes.
Deciding Stiles and Liam waited and witnessed a normal teenager long enough, Theo grabbed his jacket and keys to head out. The car ride to the part of the reserve the bridge was at wasn't very long since it wasn't far from his house. He pulled up to a dead end in the road where it was blocked by a chain. The two spies were twenty feet away, hiding in the bushes as they watch Theo get out to open up his trunk. Theo could hear them, but he made sure to play it off as if he couldn't.
After getting what he needed from the trunk, Theo walks down the path that continues on beyond the chain. He's carrying a decent sized package filled with lilies to drop over the side of the bridge for his sister. He works on masking his chemo signals with grief on his way, knowing the only reason Stiles brought Liam was so he could know how Theo was feeling.
Stiles and Liam are tracking Theo's footsteps and Stiles is trying to convince Liam that it's better when the people they care about know the truth. But Liam is worried that Mason won't accept it if he tells him he's a werewolf.
"What if he freaks out? What if he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he tries to stab me with something silver? Or what if-" Liam's abruptly cut off. Stiles hears the snapping of sticks behind him followed by a thud and turns around to see a large hole where Liam should've been. Stiles walks over to the hole and peers down at Liam.
"What the hell are you doing?" Liam shoots him an exasperated look of disbelief. Stiles looks over his shoulder as he hears footsteps approaching. "There he is. Hurry up. Stop screwing around." As Stiles walks away, making no sign of helping Liam out of the hole, Liam sighs and picks his phone up out of the mud.
Theo unwraps the package and takes out a single lily. Taking a deep breath, he drops the lily into the water. He can hear Stiles scramble to push Liam away from what they'd just seen. He hurries to run ahead of them to cut them off.
Luna explored the woods in her wolf form. She was aware of what was going on, but she had no control over what she did. So far, she'd killed two rabbits and, although her body loved it, all she wanted to do was throw it back up. She heard the trickle of the river before she saw the bridge. The immediate effect it had on her body -- head down and tail between her legs -- was uncanny. As if even in her wolf form, she knew of the death and despair that happened here.
Another howl, just as powerful and resonating as the first one, filled the night sky. It continued as Luna's wolf features retracted and her human features returned. One by one, her paws went back to being hands and feet and her tail shortened into her spine. The snout began to disappear as her head morphed back to normal. The blue fur lessened on her body and returned to the longer hair on her head.
As her human form reappears, Luna is left clutching the ground. Sobs leave her plump, pink lips and it's not just because of the pain. The guilt of what she had done merely eight years ago hits her like wave after wave after wave. Tears stream down her face no matter how many times she wipes them away with the back of her hand.
"I'm so sorry," her voice cracks with desperation. "It's all my fault."
Luna lays there in the dirt until she can't cry anymore tears. With her eyes swollen and face red, she crawls over to the side of the bridge where she had stashed a bag full of clothes for nights like this. Anytime she transforms into a wolf she ends up here at the bridge. It's the only place where she can gain enough control to change back into herself.
With the cold air pressing into her bare skin, Luna quickly pulls the sweats over her legs and sweatshirt over her head. She risked a look into the river half expecting to see a body down in the water, but all she saw was a lily rocking with the tremors in the water. She sighs and slips her legs through the railing of the bridge so they were dangling off the edge. She put her head in her hands, too weak and tired to go out looking for her truck just yet.
She didn't hear the sound of paws until their nails were scraping against the wood. The girl hurriedly backed away in fright from being caught off guard and too weak to shift. Her chest heaved up and down as the beat of her heart rose quickly.
In one swift movement, Theo emerged from his wolf form and was now crouched naked in front of the frightened Luna. He stood up, not at all ashamed to show his entire body. If anything, he was very smug about Luna being able to see. The last time she'd seen him like this was in a bubble bath and he'd been a lot smaller back then. (If you know what I mean.)
Luna squeezed her eyes shut as quick as she could, but it didn't stop her from seeing the major parts of him. And she couldn't lie. They were major. She opened her eyes up to the sky and stood up.
"Luna? What are you doing here?" Theo asks. He wasn't planning on making his move on Luna until sometime later, but he supposed he could put in the ground works tonight.
"Sorry. I sometimes come out here to-" she stutters as she tries to come up with a reason. "I know I shouldn't come here since-" Her voice cuts off and she can feel the tears build up in her throat. She sighs. She thought she was done crying for tonight.
Theo notices what she's about to say and interrupts her, "Luna, it's fine. You have just as much right to mourn for her as I do."
Luna's eye finally meet his and the emotion is not what Theo is expecting.
"But I don't." Her voice is strong, but her body shows exhaustion. "I have absolutely no right to be out here."
"What are you talking about? You were practically family to her as well as me. You-"
"I killed her, Theo!" She narrows her eyes at the naked boy. "I have no right to mourn for someone I killed. I should be trapped in a prison cell. I-" She can't stop the tears from flowing freely in rivers down her cheeks. She covers her face so Theo can't see them.
In all honesty, Theo had forgotten who exactly had killed his sister. Through his mind, he'd thought of it as if he'd used Luna as a weapon. He'd known she wasn't in control of her shifts so he'd taken her out in the woods, knowing his sister would follow them. It'd been as if Luna was the gun and Theo aimed the gun while the moon pulled the trigger. He didn't know Luna would have taken it to heart for all of these years. Yet, seeing how she was crying hysterically in front of him, he knew she had blamed herself and that was the reason why she couldn't control her shifts.
"Luna, you were a kid. Not only a kid, but a werewolf kid who was still learning to control her shifts." Theo tried comforting her, even taking a step towards her. She put up a hand to stop him.
"Don't make it sound so simple, Theo. If it was, my family wouldn't have thrown me out of the pack." Theo couldn't argue with that and made no more motions of stepping closer to comfort her. Luna picked up the bag from the ground and turned around to walk away.
"Where are you going?" Theo asks quietly.
"I have to find my truck," she says over her shoulder, catching another glimpse of his body.
Damn.
Hi, guys! I'm back with another update! So, now you know what happened that night in the prologue. Does anyone know Theo's sister's name? I've searched, but I can't find if they ever said her name in the show.
Anyway, Theo and Luna had a conversation finally, but she's a wreck. Don't worry she's not going to be like that the entire story. Maybe a couple more chapters just bear with me.
Also, I changed the title from "lone wolf" to "control" because this story is mainly about her finding control in her wolf form.
Hope you liked the chapter please vote or comment what you liked or how you felt!
