Sadie was more depressed then ever. She was currently in Birmingham, England 1922.
Her wish a night before came true, now she was hundred year back in the past. Apparently she travelled to body of Sadie Hawkins of the 1900's.
An accident happened to Sadie and now either she is dead or travelled to her body in 2022. "Atleast I don't have to see that Parker's face again."
Sadie was trying to learn all about her new life. She knew what she needed, she just had to wait for a falling star, make a wish and go back. Easy enough.
Walking downstairs, Sadie twirled her hair, which apparently were red. She was now a red head.
"Morning Lizzie." Smiling at her god mother, Sadie took an apple from the basket.
Elizabeth chopped some apples on the cutting board mumbling slowly, telling her history of the old Sadie. "Your mother was a professor at Oxford, you know love she fell in love with your father and then had you. Sadly both of them passed away in a car accident."
Nodding at the given information, Sadie wiped the sweat off of her forehead. It was hot in the kitchen."So I'm like educated?"
Elizabeth gave Sadie a scowl. "Ofcourse you are, we sent you to London to study and you came back last year. Saying something about how you want to be closer to your roots."
Sadie was now convinced that old Sadie was dumb, how could she just leave London to move to a bloody oven?
Sadie was also informed that she was looking for a job, rather then working in the kitchen.
Nora entered the kitchen with a paper in her hand. "I think we got a job for you."
Snatching the paper from Nora, Sadie half smiled at her cousin. "Thanks young Nora."
Reading the paper it was pamphlet for any French translator, published by "Shelby Company Limited."
"Are like Shelbys not evil?"
Sadie looked up at Nora as she questioned Elizabeth. "Yes dear, they are. They are the gangsters of this area. I suppose you don't go in there Sadie."
"The fuck I will not? Even if they are aliens, all I care for is the money. I'll go and check Lizzie."
Elizabeth smacked her arm for cussing so loudly. According to her, women should behave and be nice.
Nora snickered at the back earing a death stare from Sadie. She knew where she was supposed to be. At Shelby's office. Or at the bar they mentioned?
Next morning, Sadie got dressed in a black coat and skirt underneath. Tucking the left side of hair in two pins, she wore some heels with the look.
Going downstairs, Sadie gave Elizabeth a hug. "Oh I'll be fine. My fairy godmother is with me huh?"
Elizabeth smiled and walked her out of the kitchen. Sadie walked through streets of Birmingham. Everything was so loud, yet no sound of TV, or billboards or loud McDonald's advertisements.
It was exactly how you would imagine life would be a hundred year back. Making her way to "Garrison Pub" Sadie took out the pamphlet and went inside.
The bar was almost empty with some men sitting in a corner, gossiping about some new sheriff in town.
Walking over to the bartender, Sadie slammed the paper on the table. "I'm here for the job of translator?"
The bartender sighed and mumbled almost to nothing. "Mr. Shelby will be here soon."
Sadie nodded and asked for a glass of water, slowly sipping. Sadie didn't knew how long she would wait but she does need to look out for other places for jobs.
Suddenly the main door was slammed open by a drunk man with guns in his hands. Shooting at one of the men near entrance, Sadie instantly ducked down.
"I WANT N-NOTHING B-BUT O-PEACE." The man slurred shooting around recklessly. Worried he might hit someone else, Sadie crawled behind a chair.
She couldn't see from here but a few men in suits walked in, as one of them approached the drunk man.
"Chris, son let's talk this.... Give me the gun."
The supposed Chris then started crying falling into the man's arms as the bartender opened the windows to let the smoke out.
"Fucking hell, this will cost a hundred pounds to repair." A man walked around and kicked one of the broken chair. Soon all of them walked to a separate door, sending Chris with one of the customers.
Sadie stood up and saw shattered glass and broken wood everywhere. The bartender sighed and tapped on her paper, getting her attention. "Still wanna work here?"
"What about the man that was shot?" Sadie asked looking around for any sign of him.
"He was escorted by the helpmen, now women go talk to Mr. Shelby I have shit to tend to." The bartender sighed jumping over the counter shouting at someone to bring him some broom and cloth of scrub the floor.
Sadie straigten her coat and walked over to the closed door. She could smell the cigarettes from out there. Knocking on the door she waited for a minutes.
"COME ON IN!" Hearing the voice, Sadie peeked inside and saw a young man, one much older then him and one focused on some papers sitting discussing about something.
"Ehh sweetheart, too early for a hook up huh?" The younger one laughed and took a sip from his drink. Sadie bit her lip and took a step forward.
"If you are going to post about a job at your work, then expect people to come in, not everyone is here to entertain you." Sadie spoke in a stern tone, earning a scowl from him.
The one in middle gave him a look. "Enough John, Arthur take him and look out. Make sure everything is clean before the pub is opened."
Arthur took John and left in a hurry, almost like his command, who she suppose was Tommy, was not to be joked around.
Sadie slid the pamphlet in front of him and smiled lightly. "I would like to apply for the Job of the French translator."
Tommy sat back and lit a cigarette, he looked up at her and she noticed his icy blue eyes. His eyes were deep blue, like a ocean with deep secrets buried inside.
"And why should we hire you?" Tommy asked her in a thick British accent, making Sadie a bit nervous. He was stern in his tone and manner.
"Well you need a translator and I'm fluent in French, also I'm efficient in paper writing, so I'll be helpful around."
Sadie explained, looking at Tommy and then at the paper.
"What's your name?"
"Sadie Hawkins, Mr. Shelby."
"Fine, you are hired be at our residence tomorrow at 7. Don't be fucking late." Tommy signed the paper almost like it was her job resume being confirmed.
Taking the paper Sadie asked one last question. "And how much will I be payed?"
Tommy smiled and sipped his drink all in. "I'll see how well you do love, then we'll decide."
Sadie took that as her queue to leave, as she was about to close the door on her way out she heard Tommy. "Make sure to hide under a table next time."
Sadie smiled and walked out. On her way back home, she bought some candy for Nora in honor of celebrating that she got the job.
It was getting dark and she walked slowly towards the building where she lived. Hearing a scream from an alleyway, she rushed over to see two men holding a women against her will.
"Fiesty huh? Will see how fast you finish then?" One of them slapped her hard, earning another scream in response.
Placing her bag down, Sadie took two glass bottles from the sides and walked over. "Let's see how fast you two fall when I smash these bottle over your head."
And Sadie smashed them right across the head, making them scream in pain. She could smell the alcohol off of them. They bustling with pain walked away mumbling some cuss words under their breath.
The girl sighed taking her bag from the ground. "Thanks."
Sadie smiled sarcastically and nodded. "Ofcourse, I'm a pro at smashing bottles." Helping her up, Sadie offered a handshake.
"I'm Sadie."
"Ada."
Both of them walked out of the alleyway, as Ada anxiously patted Sadie's shoulder. "Thanks again, but my brothers must he waiting for me. I have to go."
Sadie nodded as she saw Ada almost run to the direction she came from. It was an eventful day nonetheless.
