Chapter 1 - Dead or still alive?

'One minute. Sixty whole seconds and a very short time in life.' Liam looked through the window left of him again.
'Fourty seconds.' Liam was counting down. Only thirty seconds and the school bell would ring and he could go home. He looked quick in the class and than to his backpack, it was standing between his chair and the one of his friend's. He leaned forward  and slipped his hand into his bag and pulled out a black smartphone. He was curious if he had any missed texts. The moment he wanted to read the missed texts, the bell rang. He dicided to read the texts back home so he put it back in his backpack, stood up and left together with his best friend the class.
'Are the history grades already given?' Asked Bruno,  Liam's best friend.
'So far I know, they aren't. You know how long it takes until that man has them.'
'Ugh, yeah you are right. It always the same thing but now it's already four weeks later.' Bruno rolled his brown-green eyes. Liam wiped his black collored hair from his face and walked to his locker. He grabbed the books he needed, said goodbye to his friend and got on his bike.

The adverse wind was very strong so Liam had to pedal hard. And if that wasn't enough, there were falling small drops from the sky. Liam looked up and saw the big, dark clouds above him.
The last thing he wanted was biking in a huge rain shower so he pedaled harder than he already did. The wind started to whiffle harder and the drops fell faster. He almost couldn't see anything so he squeezed his eyes. He could only see the wet road and his front wheel. What happend next went very fast. Liam heared a loud hooting, saw a bright light and before he understood what was happeninh he felt a hard blow against his whole body that was followed by another one. He was laying on something wet and cold. Something heavy was resting on his body. He felt a warm stream on his forehead. He tried to look what was happening but everything was hazy and was followed by a black haze so he saw, heared and felt nothing anymore.

Liam looked wildly around but the only thing he saw was white. Liam yelled and screamed but there was nothing and nobody. He was in panick and started to sweat.
'What's happening? Where am I? Someone help!' He yelled.
'Calm down.' Liam turned himself to the deep, calmly and frightning voice that came from behind. What he saw next almost gave him a heart attack.
Behind him stood a pale, skinny man with emotionless eyes.  He was wore sloppy, grey clothes and because of the black cape he was wearing you almost couldn't see his face. You could  barely see the black, dead hair of his. Liam took a better look of the man's body. He looked like a skeleton, because he was very skinny you could see his bones and ribs. Under his eyes he had heavy, black bags. It looks like he hadn't slept in centuries.
The man started to grin.
'Has nobody told you that staring is rude?' Asked the man and walked slowly around Liam.
'Who are you and where am I?' Asked Liam strained. He looked nervously around, surching for a way out. He was scared to death and wanted to go back to his family. To his parents and his thirteen year old little sister.
'Where you are? You're between live and death.' Answered the man him patiently. The man stopped walking around Liam and stood in front of him.
'Between live and death? How do you mean? That I'm not alive but I'm not dead either? That's impossible! How?' Liam was very confused, never he had so much questions before.
'Calm down, calm down' the man signed with his hand that Liam had to stop panicking.
'You've got a accident, you've been hit by a car that wasn't paying attention. Your body is now in a hospital but your soul has left your body.' The man began to grin again.
'Been hit by a car?!' Liam saw fast everything happen again. The hooting, the bright light and hazy shoutings. Furthermore he doesn't remember.
'Hang on a minute, before you're going to tell me more hazy detaills, tell me first who you are.' The man fell in a laughter that gave Liam shivers down the spine. The man took off his hood so you could see his black, thin hair. He looked to Liam with his grey-black eyes.
'Who I am?' He began to grin.
'I'm Death itself.'
