i- the hogwarts express
JESSICA BLACK OF GRYFFINDOR MADE HER WAY THROUGH THE BRICKED BARRIER. at platform nine and three quarters. Just the way she had done so, the past five years at the beginning of each school year at Hogwarts. She smiled as the familiar steamy air overtook her.
She made her way to the compartment where she sat every year with her friends. Natalie Denswood, Aiden Blake, Fred and George Weasley, her partners in crime.
She was friends with each of them for different reasons. She had become friends with Natalie because she had always been such a lonely girl, who was always picked on by others. They started to share their secrets, and problems with each other, and soon were inseparable.
Aiden, on the other hand, was just so darn likeable. He was a real doofus, and was certainly not one for academics, but he did have a good mind. Jessica always teased him, saying that he should have been in Ravenclaw instead of Gryffindor.
Fred and George had been drawn to Jessica themselves. It wasn't that she was a big pranker or anything, but she had a reputation in Hogwarts for continuously defying Professor Snape, and saying what she thought of him to his face, and in return she would give Fred and George a run for their money, considering how many detentions she got. It was only Snape she had a problem with, she was fine with the other Professors.
"Hey Jess," Aiden grinned, making room for her to sit next to him, "Natalie's mum made her some freaking amazing fudge. Want to try?"
"Actually, I should be the one offering here the fudge, because I'm the one who brought it." Natalie said pointedly, before handing the box to Jessica, who grinned.
"Actually, I should be the one offering here the fudge, because I'm the one who brought it." Aiden mimicked, battling his eyelashes.
Natalie glared at him, and snatched up a handful of fudge from the box, before throwing it at Aiden's face who gasped, "NATALIE! YOU RUINED MY SHIRT, YOU IDIOT -"
Aiden snatched up a fistful of fudge himself, and aimed it at Natalie, when Jessica stopped him, "Oh goodness, not this food fight again. You guys are so freaking childish."
"Did we hear childish?" Fred and George poked their head in the compartment, with identical grins on their faces.
"Of course," Jessica rolled her eyes, "I forgot childish was your middle name."
"Yeah, along with genious, brave, smart -" Fred counted on his fingers.
"- hot." George piped up.
"Hot, yes. Thank you, George."
"Who said you two were hot?" Aiden blutered out.
George rounded on him, "Basically all the girls in the school. The guys are just too jealous to admit it."
"No way, I'm hotter than you!" Aiden argued.
"Oh my goodness," Jessica buried her head in her hands, "sometimes I think I'm raising a bunch of immature morons."
"That's supposed to be my job." came a voice. Jessica looked around to see Remus smiling.
"Remus, what are you doing here?" Natalie asked.
They were all very friendly with Remus since Jessica called them over to her house so much. Remus was going to be their Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor this year. Jessica had wanted to surprise her friends so she didn't tell them before.
"You're looking at your new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher." Remus said, grinning at the excited faces of the children in the compartment.
"Really?" Fred exclaimed, "We're finally going to have a normal professor!"
Remus' smile dropped down a bit, and Jessica shot him an encouraging smile. The others didn't know that Remus was a Werewolf.
Yes, a Werewolf. Each month, Remus would run off to nearby woods, where he would transform, and since there would be no humans near him, he would be more controlled. He had made Jessica swear to never try to follow him, or to wait up for him to return on the nights of full moons.
Two days ago, was a particularly bad full moon for Remus. He came back all bruised and scratched. Jessica kept begging him to just take her out of Hogwarts, and buy Wolfsbane for himself with the spare money. Wolfsbane was a modern time potion which decreased the pain which Werewolf transformations, and made the Werewolf harmless and safer to be around. But Remus only looked bewildered at the idea, and told Jessica to never say that again. He said that her education was more important than him. Jessica disagreed.
"Jessica, I'm sitting in the compartment next to yours, but don't call for me, I'm very tired today and I'm taking a little nap." Remus told her.
"Aren't I Miss Black now, Professor?" Jessica grinned at Remus, trying to defuse the tention.
Remus smirked "I beg your pardon, Miss Black, with due respect, please do not disturb me, as I'm exhausted from your constant whining at home, and I wish dearly to take a nap without your constant complaining about how, 'you'll die without your friends'." Remus corrected himself with a smirk on his face
Fred, George. Natalie and Aiden snickered
"Shut up!"
Remus smiled innocently, and left the compartment with a wink.
"So, you would die without us?" George asked, when Remus was a safe distance from them.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." Jessica retorted, which silenced the boy.
Fred laugued, "You might be about the only person who can silence the great George Weasley."
"It's really not that hard."
"Hey!" George glared at her.
There was a knock on the compartment, to which they turned around, to see who it was. And they wished they hadn't.
"Hey there." Layla Pole said.
"Ugh, what do you want now?" Natalie groaned.
"I'm not hear to talk to you, Blake. My standards are high enough, so I don't need to waste my time talking to Mudbloods."
"Stupefy," Jessica muttered.
"What was that, speak up, you're muttering darling - aah!"
Fred and George applauded and slapped Jessica on the back, as Layla fell on her back, stunned.
"Okay, you might want to un stun her now, Jess." Aiden said.
"Aww man, I'm kind of enjoying this." Fred said, but Jessica elbowed him, and unstupifyed the girl.
"How dare you! You filthy -"
"Filthy what? Go on, assume my heritage." Jessica said coldly.
She knew who her father was, of course she did. Everyone did. And she knew that he was a Pure blood, she had done enough research on him to know much more than that. She found it silly how no one ever suspected hum to be traitor. He was a Black, supporting the Dark Lord was all the Blacks did.
However, she had absolutely no idea who her mother was. She had done research, but she couldn't figure it out. She tried asking Remus, she knew that Remus was friends with his father at school, but Remus wouldn't say a word.
So, she didn't know her heritage. She didn't know if she was a Pure blood, or Half blood. She didn't know. Yet.
"Oh I'm not here to talk about that today," Layla said, and Natalie let out a sigh of relief, causing Layla to glare at her, "Surely, you've read the Daily Prophet?"
Jessica looked at her in a confused way, causing Layla to laugh, "Oh, you haven't, poor thing! Not knowing about it when everyone in the Wizarding World does, probably even your little friends."
Jessica turned to the gulping and fidgety four she was sitting with, "What is she talking about? What was in the Daily Prophet?"
"Here, see for yourself." Layla said gleeflully, handing Jessica a copy of the Daily Prophet, which she had dug from her pocket.
Jessica unfolded it, and her face dropped as she read the headlines.
SIRIUS BLACK, THE FIRST PRISONER KNOWN TO HAVE ESCAPED AZKABAN
"Bloody freaking shit."
