xi- legilemency

"PADFOOT, I DON'T CARE how fun it would be, but I'm not throwing my wand for you to fetch." Jessica told her father sternly.

Jessica was having a heated argument with her father, with the door locked, as Natalie amusedly watched the two. Jessica jumped up to her feet as the door was knocked on from the outside, and told Sirius to turn back into his dog form, which he did.

Jessica unlocked the door, to see a third year girl by the name of Parvati Patil, "Yes? Is there something you'd like to say?"

"Aiden Blake is calling for you, he's outside the girl's dormitory." The pretty Indian girl told Jessica.

"Oh, okay, thanks." Jessica said, and turned towards Natalie, "Hey, Nat, Aiden's calling for me. I'll be back soon, alright?"

"Got it, I'll just have some quality time with your dad until then." Natalie, said sticking her wand out of her pocket, as she aimed to throw it, under Padfoot's excited gaze.

Jessica rolled her eyes, and went out of the Dormitory, to see Aiden outside.

"Hey, Jessica, I know how Snape is against you, and I felt like there must be a reason for that. Now, please don't get mad at me, or tell anybody, but I may or may not have read Remus' mind." Aiden said, covering his face, bracing himself for Jessica's wrath.

"Wait, how did you do that — oh wait, I forgot that you spent years not telling your best friend that you're a freaking Legilemens!" Jessica said.

"Sorry, alright! I was just scared that you might think I'm a freak or something." Aiden said.

"And why would I think that? Legilemency is a power!" Jessica said, "But Aiden, you're a muggle born, where did you learn Legilemency?"

"I have a lot to explain, I know. So come with me to the Room of Requirement, I'll tell you everything."

"What about the others?" Jessica asked, "aren't you going to tell them?"

"This is about you Jessica. I feel like I should tell you alone first. You can tell them yourself afterwards."

"Alright then," Jessica said, and followed him to the Room of Requirement.

"Okay, so when like I told you before, when I firsts started showing signs of magic, my family freaked out, and started to get scared of me. They thought I might be cursed, or might have black magic on me." Aiden said, as Jessica and him sat on a couch in the Room of Requirement.

"I know, Aiden." Jessica said, having inherited her impatience from her dad, "You've told me that before."

"Listen patiently, Jessica. Now, I later discovered that my maternal uncle, was a wizard too. That brought me closer to him than any member of my family, and I started spending each of my weekends with him. My uncle's name, is Dirk Cresswell."

"Cresswell? The Head of the Goblin Liaison Office?" Jessica asked.

"Yes. Soon, he told me that he had practiced for years, and secretly became a Legilemens and an Occlumens. He didn't tell anyone, so he was able to read people's minds without them knowing it — yes that sounds creepy, but being a muggle born has it's cons. And he needed to know if the pure bloods in the ministry were plotting against him."

"And I'm guessing he taught you Legelimency?" Jessica asked.

"Yes, he did, and Occlumency too. So, I kept this a secret from everyone, and I didn't tell you guys, because I thought you might start to become uncomfortable around me." Aiden confided.

"Oh come on Aiden, of course not, I trust you." Jessica squeezed Aiden's hand.

Aiden smiled, "but anyway, I thought there must be a reason why Snape hates you so much. There's a reason why he hates Harry — he was enemies with his father when he was at Hogwarts, he told us — so there must be one for you." Aiden said, "Come on, Jessica, put the puzzle together!"

"I have no idea what you're — wait, Harry's father is James, and Padfoot was freiends with James at school right?"

"Bingo!" Aiden grinned, "To make sure, I read Remus' mind. It was hard to read Padfoots' since he's always in his dog form. Remus was checking papers in class today, when we were memorising the chapter on Iguanas. I wasn't able to access everything, because the bell rang, I caught only small glimpses, but I saw that Padfoot and Harry's dad, were friends like brothers. I saw memories of them, and I think they might've lived together at some point, while Remus visited them. I saw Remus as a kid of course, and another boy, who I think was Peter Pettigrew."

Jessica grind her teeth at the mention of the man who caused his father to be entitled as a murderer.

"I also kept seeing red headed —" Aiden began.

"That must be Lily! Harry told me his mother had red hair." Jessica said.

"There were two of them." Aiden said, "And another boy once with brown hair, and a few more girls."

Jessica shrugged, "Must be more of their friends."

"Yeah, and well, now you and Harry are tied together by another rope. Snape hates you both for the same reason."

Jessica grimaced, "I honestly don't know whether to be happy or sad about that."

There was a moment's silence, before Aiden blurted out, "Snape is a Legilemens too."

"What?!" Jessica exclaimed.

"I tried to read him mind, but his mind was as closed as bricks. He was an Occlumens and a Legilemens. I'm telling you this, because I'm worried he'll access your brain and find out about Padfoot."

"Shit." Jessica swore, "This is bad! We can't let him find out."

"Which is part of the reason I called you here tonight." Aiden said quietly.

"What are you talking about?" Jessica asked the boy.

"I'm going to teach you Legilimency and Occlumency."

"Before we start this stuff, Aiden, I might want to warn you, I have no idea what I'm doing." Jessica said.

"Every master was once a beginner, Jessica. Relax, we can do this." Aiden said, grabbing his wand, and motioning Jessica to do the same, "The first rule of Legilimency is that you need to be near the person, whose mind you want to invade. As the saying goes, "time and space matter in magic." Now, Jessica, there are two main styles of Legilemency —"

"Have you taught this stuff before to anyone?" Jessica blurted, "Your words sound really — I don't know, professional and practiced."

"No, I've never taught this to anyone, but I kind of like teaching, I like to learn all I do, as if I'm like teaching to someone." Aiden confessed.

"You ever thought about teaching as a career?" Jessica asked.

"I don't know, I — wait, we should be talking about Legilimency right now! Don't distract me, Jessica!"

Jessica chuckled at the flustered looking boy, as she rolled about on the couch, and poked Aiden's shoulder with her toe, "Alright, Professor, go on with your lesson."

Aiden cleared his throat, "Okay, so there are two types of Legilimency. One of them is for beginners. In this one, the person whose mind is being invaded, can feel that his mind is being invaded. The other one, is for professionals. In this one, the person has no idea their mind is being invaded."

"You do both of them, right?" Jessica asked, as she rested her head on his lap.

"Yeah, and don't get too comfortable Jessica, we're going to practice soon." Aiden warned, and Jessica shook him off by waving her hand.

"Those learning Legilimency began with a spell and an incantation – Legilimens. However, accomplished Legilimens don't need incantations to invade people's minds." Aiden explained.

"Oh wow, that means I'm friends with an accomplished professional." Jessica chuckled.

Aiden grinned, "You're also friends — or maybe more — with the biggest pranksters Hogwarts has ever seen. The Weasley Twins."

"Shut up, Aiden. And for the record, you might be wrong there. Maybe the Marauders were even more of pranksters than the twins." Jessica said.

"True, true." Aiden shrugged, "But seriously, I think Georgie might have a little crush on you."

"George? No way," Jessica grinned, "you're joking. George doesn't seem like the type to have crushes — nor does Fred for the matter."

"Fine, then who do you have a crush on?" Aiden asked.

"Maybe I have a crush on you."
