chapter twelve,
can i go where you go?

BRADY STOOD OUTSIDE IN FRONT OF THE Walter household, waiting for Jackie to come out. The two of them were going to the dance together and he just wanted her to have a good time, especially with everything that had been happening. Smoothing his shirt, he knocked on the door.

Katherine opened it, a smile on her face. "Hi, Brady. Jackie! Brady's here!" she stated, looking at the staircase. Jackie walked through the hallway, slowly walking down the stairs. The girl wore a short black dress, matching heels, and a headband.   Her hair was curled at the ends and down her back, much different from how her hair usually was.   Brady smiled, looking at her. "Hey." he said.   Jackie wore a shy smile, waving at him.  "Hi."

"Are you ready to go?" he questioned as she nodded her head.   "Yeah.   We can go now.  Bye, Katherine." she answered, gently holding onto his arm.   "Bye, Jackie." Katherine stated, closing the door behind them.

Finally making it to the school, Brady parked outside and got out of the car.   He helped Jackie out, closing the car door and locking it.  The two of them walked in together.  "Hey, guys." Brady stated to Kia and Issac. "Hey, Brady." Kia said, giving him a hug. "Oh my gosh, Jackie! You look so pretty!"

"Thank you. You look beautiful in that dress. Don't you think so, Issac?" The boy's cheeks started to flush again, "What do you think about Brady, Jackie?"  Now it was Jackie's turn for her cheeks to flush.  "There's Sam and Lee. We'll be right back." Brady stated.

The two of them walked over to Samira and Lee, the young Garcia boy being in awe of the curly haired girl next to him.   "Hey, Sam.  Lee." Brady stated.  "Hey, Brady.   Hi, Jackie.   You look beautiful." Samira stated, hugging the girl.   "Thanks.  You do too."

After a bit of small talk, Brady and Jackie found a few seats at a table.   The two of them watched as their friends spoke to each other, happy to see something good after everything.   Brady noticed Kia and Isaac eating some snacks together, talking with each other.
"Look at them. They're bonding." he said. Jackie smiled.   "I never thought they'd get along. After all their bickering, I'm so glad they aren't shouting at each other for once."

"Me too." After playing multiple songs, the DJ put on "Lover" by Taylor Swift. People started to slow dance, causing Brady and Jackie to follow suit. "But I had a great time with you." Jackie stated. "I did too." Brady arms were wrapped around her waist while Jackie's were wrapped around his neck.   The two of them were so close to each other. Jackie's eyes glanced down at his lips, causing Brady's to do the same.  They quickly shared a kiss, returning to dancing as normal.

The dance eventually came to an end as the two of them walked back to the car.    An awkward silence was between them, not sure of what to even say.   What could you even say to someone you had just kissed?

Brady finally pulled up to the Walter household, helping Jackie out of the car.  The two of them walked towards the front door, Brady knocking on the door.   "The dance was really fun." Jackie stated, an awkward smile on her face.   "Yeah, it was.  Thank you for going with me."

"No problem.   Um, I'll see you at school?" Jackie stated.    Brady nodded his head.  "See you at school.  I'll, uh, text you when I get home."

"Great.  Uh... have a good night." Jackie said quickly, watching as Katherine opened the door.  "Hey, guys.   How was the dance?"  The two teens forced a smile, trying to ignore the awkwardness between them.   "It was great.   Um, I'm really tired so I'll just head upstairs.   Bye, Brady."

"Uh, bye, Jackie."  He watched as she hurried up the stairs, thinking that he made her uncomfortable.   He'd have to talk to her about the whole... kiss situation the next time they saw each other.

He just wanted them to be okay again.
