Chapter 10 - Girlfriend found at Mcdonalds

Ben looked ever so still when Eyeless Jack walked into the room.

The text message was... unnerving. Whenever Ben sent random shit, it tended to be filled with misspelling and random meme phrases. This, however, was eerily normal.

'Can you come downstairs'

The timing too wasn't very appealing. At three in the morning. And there Ben was, in the living room, computer on his lap.

"You're a demon, right?" He asked quietly when Eyeless Jack entered the room.

"Uh... yeah?" Eyeless Jack tilted his head. "Is everything okay?"

The grandfather clock ticked from up the stairs. Ben, very carefully, pressed the mousepad on the computer.

"You know, it... it made sense what the officials reported when the building exploded," Ben said, a tired gaze as he paused the video on his screen. "But I fixed the video I talked about before. It's not... it wasn't humans."

It wasn't too hard to figure out what Ben was talking about.

"Demons blew up the building?" He asked.

"Yeah. It was demons."

Ben continued to stare at the screen. Silently, Eyeless Jack moved over to sit next to him, and the boy pressed the play button. Sure enough, through the camera, he could see several hooded people setting up an explosive outside of the building. Horns sticking out, tails swishing, obviously lower leveled demons.

"So it was demons that set up the bombs?" Eyeless Jack asked. "I mean, I'm a turned demon so I'm not part of anything they do, so I can't really help much. But it just sounds like things they typically do."

He rarely felt lucky about certain aspects of his life. Eyeless Jack was lucky he wasn't dead yet. Eyeless Jack was lucky that Sans found him that night and gave him a house to stay in. And he was lucky that no demons or angels approached him after he was turned. He liked being able to live without much drama. But that also meant he wasn't really in tune with anything going on in the Underworld, and couldn't offer much information about that. A turned demon, to them, wasn't a real demon. And never would be.

"No, the problem is that they had a target."

Oh.

"We have to tell Sans if he was being targeted, they could come back -"

As he spoke, Eyeless Jack moved to stand, immediately looking towards the stairs, but Ben quickly grasped onto his hand. When he turned, Ben stared at Jack, giving a long and hard look.

"They were targeting his brother, not Sans." Ben loosened his grip on Jack's gray wrist. "They left after they saw Papyrus was alive, the bomb was to kill him."

"What?" He paused, moving forward towards the couch again. "Why?"

"That's the thing, I don't know at all," Ben said, gesturing towards the Papyrus on the screen. "I watched this fucker for months and he's not connected to demons at all. He's just some normal monster. It doesn't concern us, obviously, and it looks like he had no idea he was even the target. And it looks like they hadn't tried to attack before this, either. And I'm not... I'm trying to figure out if I should tell Sans or not. He might need to know, but... this is about Papyrus."

"Have the demons tried to kill Papyrus again?" Jack asked.

Ben paused, before sighing. "I think we're going to need Smile Dog."

It took a few minutes to fill in Smile Dog, and a few more for the dog and boy to scan over every document and news relating to Papyrus recently. And found them void of any possible demon attacks. It was a one time occurrence that Sans happened to be at. The video made it clear that they specifically followed Papyrus, and left when they saw he survived. Sans was just another face in the crowd around their target.

"This is... bothersome," Smile Dog concluded. "Papyrus hasn't been interacting with demons, so why are they targeting him of all people?"

"And they haven't targeted him before or after, I don't get it!" Ben said. "Jack, are you sure you don't know anything?"

"I've only met other demons once before, and that was brief." He ran one hand over the other, leaning forward towards the computer. "I'm a turned demon, so that means I never grew up inside of hell and have no idea how that works. I'm as much as an outsider as you guys are. I'm barely more demon than you guys. Not much to offer knowledge wise."

"Damnit," Smile Dog hissed. "This is annoying. What the hell did Papyrus do to piss off the demons?"

"Woah, first time I heard you curse like that," Ben said, with a light smile.

Smile Dog huffed. "Because this is worrying. Demons don't target specific people without a reason, they mostly just tend to stay in hell unless they're messing with angels. So why the hell are they trying to straight up blow apart Sans' brother?"

"He might have done something to a demon without realizing it," Eyeless Jack said.

"That's a fair point, guy was such a narcissistic cunt that anyone would wanna blow him up after meeting him," Ben muttered.

No response from Smile Dog. Instead, his tail anxiously bounced off of the couch as he tried to figure something out. Ben fell just as silent.

"From what little I do know about demons, it's not very usual for us to be actively killing people unless they already did something." Eyeless Jack clasped his hands together. "So there likely was some important demon on the surface, and judging by what I heard about this Papyrus guy, he probably pissed off that demon without even realizing it and that's why they went to that length to try and kill him."

Ben brushed some blonde hair out of his face. A frown pulling at his lips.

"I think we should just delete the video," Ben concluded. "It's about Papyrus, and Sans went no contact with him. So this is none of Sans' business anymore."

Eyeless Jack only could watch as the two thought it over. He couldn't really help much. Sans was still new to him. He couldn't predict how the skeleton would act to this news. Demons weren't even supposed to be interacting with the surface much. All pure born demons were stuck in hell.

"It's not like we're not already lying to him, right?" Ben offered with a forced chuckle. "We lied about the Sally incident, and we're lying about the severity of Slenderman just not attacking him. Why not add another thing onto the plate?"

Smile Dog paused. "Fine. But if this comes up again and relates back to Sans in any certain way that can hurt him or anyone who lives here, we tell him immediately."

"Of course, I swear."

And just like that, the video was deleted.

~~~~~~
The faint whimper of lost wind pressed against the car windows as Jane and Sans sat, parked in a fast food parking lot as their freshly obtained cups of coffee warmed their hands.
"Oh man, Bean's going to be a nightmare when I get back," Sans said, sighing as he leaned back. "I love her, but man does she have attachment issues to me. So I should enjoy this while it lasts."
He didn't fuck it up. Jane reassured him the moment Sans started to panic when they drove away. Just because he turned down sex didn't mean it was the end of the world.
He was fine. He didn't blow it.
"This is the hardest age, it should get easier." Jane took a long sip of coffee. "Actually, this might be the easiest age, considering what she inherited from Jack so far. Oh god. We're going to have two Laughing Jack's in the house. I need to move out."
Sans snorted. "It's going to be something. Dunno what. But something."
He glanced over at her, movement slow.
"About the uh... turn down, I guess, I'm not... I haven't had sex a lot. And you have it a lot, obviously. So I wouldn't really... when I can barely... It'd feel weird."
"That's fine. If I wanted just sex I have other options. It's not a big deal if we don't have sex right away. And hey, dating is a thing."
Sans choked on his drink.
"So, I'd be willing to try for a relationship, if you are," Jane said, reaching over to put her cup in the cup holder. "It's obvious we both denied to be sexual partners at the very least, but pursuing a romantic connection with sex later be different. Though I'd be willing."
"I mean, yer amazing, 'course I would," Sans said. She really was interesting. Super cool. He found his face burning at the thought of actually dating her. Totally interested in that topic.
He was now completely obsessed with that topic. Laughing Jack was cute, but dating him and Jane? Sans was very, very interested in that idea.
"I won't interrupt you and Laughing Jack's date nights, obviously, you both have a child you need to raise and that relationship comes first." She placed a hand on his, moving to fully grasp it. "But we can try to bond more, and since Jeff and I reached a... conclusion, I'd say, I'm more tolerant of him within the house."
"That's cool." Sans blushed at the contact, turning away, but returned the hand holding she had offered. "I'm down. And going on public dates would be nice."
"It would be. I can't go with my girls either. Unless Clockwork wears some eye patch, but it's too risky since it can slip off."
Fair. Neither of her girlfriends could blend in too much. Zero with her stitched cheeks and Clockwork with her clock eye would stand out. Didn't sound very appealing to be chased by police on an attempted date night.
"Fair, fair," Sans said. "So, now official girlfriend, nice to date you. Starting in a McDonalds parking lot."
Interesting place to start a relationship. Not that his other relationship started any better. Considering it started either in bed or under a blown up building, not the best start.
"Of course." She wrapped an arm around his shoulders.
