Chapter 38

•Edited•

~Sirius~

Remus, Peter, James and I sat in our dormitory late at night in the middle of February.
James was there to stay the night, as he usually did whenever he wasn't in the heads' dorm.

It's been a month since Claire and I settled our disagreement, if you will. And a month since James and Lily got back together.
Yep.
Two hours after Lily asked to talk to James, they came back with grins on their faces, and holding each others hands.

Other than Lily and James, nothing much has changed.

Well, minus the fact that we're one month closer to graduating than we used to be.

"So are you two going to propose anytime soon?" James questioned, Peter nodding in agreement.
"Camellia mentioned marriage. But I don't know if I'm ready. I mean, what if I hurt her?" Remus exclaimed, all three of us groaning in response.
"Remus we've had this conversation," Peter moaned.
"Bu-"
"No buts Remus!" I stated.
"And what about you Sirius? Why is it you're so confident about this conversation?" Remus questioned, a smug smirk on his face that told me he didn't think I was ready either.

I sighed dramatically, a smirk of my own appearing on my face.
"Suppose I should tell you," I spoke, reaching into my nightstand and pulling out the small velvet box that practically held my future, and tossed it over to Remus.

The guys all rolled their eyes, most likely thinking it was a prank. But then Remus opened the box and they all stared wide eyed at the engagement ring.

"W-What? That's real?" James struggled to ask.
"No. I just thought I'd propose with a ring I found on the sidewalk," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes at him.
"Oh stop being dramatic!" James groaned, "I'm impressed Sirius. I admittedly didn't think you could do it."

I rolled my eyes once more.
"Oh thanks James."

Remus tossed the ring to James, who stared in awe.

A knock at the door caused all of our eyes to widen. But our eyes all widened even more as Peter responded, "Come in!"

Lily walked into the room. Looking around until her eyes fell on James, and then moved to the ring.
"I'm going to assume that's not yours," Lily breathed shakily.

"Nope. It's mine," I responded, grabbing the box from James and snapping it shut. Safely putting it back into the nightstand.

Lily gasped slightly before squealing.

"Merlin's beard!" She exclaimed, jumping up and down as she continued to squeal.
"What did I miss?" Camellia questioned as she walked through the door.
"Sirius is going to propose to Claire!" Lily squealed.
"What?! Really?!" Camellia gasped, looking at me as I confirmed with a nod and a sheepish grin.

Camellia and Lily both took deep breaths before screaming as they jumped up and down.

The sound of hurried footsteps came from outside the door, and soon Claire appeared in the doorway.

"What I miss?!" Claire questioned.
"Sirius is goi-" Peter started before James, Remus, Camellia, Lily and I ran forward to cover his mouth.

The six of us fell to the ground. Claire giggling as she watched.

"Okay," Claire laughed, walking over and plopping herself down on my bed.

"Oh!" Peter exclaimed. Laughing nervously as he looked around at all of us, "I get it now."

For the next two months I made it my goal to spend as much time as I could with Claire.

I knew I wanted to marry her. There wasn't a doubt about that.
I loved everything about her and nothing could change that.

So in that two months, I took her on dates, made sure to compliment her everyday. I also made sure to use the cologne she got me, though I would've used that anyway.
I also talked a little more about our future.
I'd ask her what she wanted to do, and how she imagined her life away from Hogwarts.

So now, on April 23rd, at 9:30 in the morning on this Sunday morning. I was ready.

Tonight I was going to propose to the love of my life.

Which now that I'm thinking about it, maybe it wouldn't hurt to do it tomorrow?

"I know what you're thinking Sirius Black and I swear if you do it I will end your life," James spoke from across the room where he sat on his bed with his arm around Lily. Who was giving him a confused look.
"Bu-"
"Sirius," Remus growled from where he also sat in his bed with Camellia.

I sighed, but nodded slowly. There was no backing out. I'm going to do it tonight.

"So. How have you not frozen to death?" Peter questioned as he recalled me telling him how we always went outside when it rained.
"Heating Charms, Pete," I replied with a chuckle.
"Oh," Peter nodded.

"So what is your plan?" Lily asked with a huge smile, which was quickly joined by Camellia's.
"Can't tell you," I answered.
"But we want to know how cute it'll be!" Camellia exclaimed.
"Then I'm sure Claire will tell you if she says yes," I quipped.

"If she says yes," I repeated.
"Which she will," Remus spoke.
"You don't know that," I said.
"No but I know Claire. And I know she loves you more than anything," Remus replied.

I mumbled incoherently for a second before saying, "You two are girls-"
"Oh well spotted Sirius," Camellia and Lily spoke.
I rolled my eyes at them but continued.
"How would you two want to be proposed to?" I asked, smirking at Remus and James's wide eyes.

Lily and Camellia both squealed at the question and immediately stood up.

"We'd have to be outside!" Camellia started.
"When the stars are shining!" Lily added.
"And the moon is bright!" Camellia said, "But not to bright!" She added with a glance at Remus.
"And we'd have to be dressed perfectly!" Lily squealed.
"With a romantic dinner!"
"And candles!"
"Oh and the guy would need a long romantic speech!"

"I don't know why you guys are talking about proposals. But that sounded horrific," A voice came from the doorway.

We all turned to see Claire, who was wearing shorts and my Quidditch sweatshirt that I couldn't help but smile at seeing the name Black at the back.
She looked gorgeous with her messy bun and lack of makeup. Of course she always looked gorgeous. But it was cute to see her like this.

Realizing what was actually happening, my eyes widened and I frantically made sure the ring was out of sight.

"Oh really? And how would you like to be proposed to?" Camellia asked.
"It'd have to be simple. No long speech. No romantic dinner. Just, simple," Claire sighed.

I grinned at her, realizing that there was no reason to be nervous.

I was ready to spend the rest of my life with this woman.
I was ready to wake up everyday to her gorgeous face.

And then maybe the name Black wouldn't just be on the back of her sweatshirt. But maybe at the end of her name.

~Claire~

It was raining tonight. So I was obviously excited. Though this time it was different.

Lily and Camellia both knew I was going out with Sirius. But this time they actually made sure I was dressed nicely.
Before, I was wearing skinny jeans and Sirius's sweatshirt that smelt to good to take off.

It smelt like the cologne he usually uses. Which is also one of the ones I got him for Christmas.

"Claire? Why don't you wear a sweater or something?" Lily asked as she held up a mustard yellow sweater.
"Because why would I?" I questioned.

I could clearly see Lily biting her lip. Something she did when she was nervous. But I didn't know why she was nervous.

I was going to question it, but Camellia burst into the room and grabbed me by the wrist. Dragging me into the bathroom.

"What are you doing?" I asked, watching warily as she picked up mascara.
"Putting make up on you," Camellia replied in a duh tone. Raising the mascara brush to my face.
"Um, maybe I can do that," I spoke. Taking the mascara out of her hand and carefully applying it in the mirror.

Camellia scoffed at my lack of trust. But she wasn't that intimidating seeing as she was still panting from running up the stairs.
Though she continued to apply small amounts of makeup to my face.

By the end of this, Lily had forced me into the mustard yellow sweater. My light blue skinny jeans were replaced by dark blue skinny jeans. And all though I tried to tell Camellia I'd ruin them with mud, she made me wear white converse.

Camellia curled my hair – against my own will mind you – and tried to get me into fancy jewelry. Though the only jewelry I ever wore was the heart bracelet from Sirius, along with the dog paw necklace from Sirius.

Though I usually wore the bracelet I had gotten for the three of us girls. Lily had forced it off me. Claiming it didn't match.

I didn't really understand why the girls wanted me dressed nicely. I had never really put in an effort to look nice on these nights Sirius and I went out in the rain. I knew there wasn't a point as it would get ruined.

I didn't mind the change though. Walking happily outside to what Sirius and I called our tree, where I would meet my wonderful boyfriend.

He turned at the sound of my footsteps. Smiling as he caught sight of me.

"You look beautiful," Sirius said softly. Grabbing my hand and pulling me close to him.
"Why thank you. You look very handsome," I spoke. Looking up into his grey eyes that shined so brightly.
"I got you these," Sirius said, pulling a few red roses from behind his back.
"Aww. You didn't have to do that," I sighed, taking the roses from him and twirling one in my finger.

But that was my mistake as everything around me went blurry, and I was met by the same pair of grey eyes I saw only two years ago, when I had twirled one of Camellia's camellias and saw the things I loved.

But this time. I knew who the grey eyes belonged to. And I most definitely loved them.

"Claire?" Sirius's voice came, taking the rose out of my hand.
I looked up at his grey eyes and grinned.
"I love you so much," I laughed, causing him to grin as well.
"I love you more," Sirius claimed, throwing me over his shoulder.

I squealed as he spun around. Our laughter filling the air. An unremovable smile on our faces.
He set me back on my feet, but soon enough he grabbed my hand and spun me around. I laughed at his action, grabbing his hand and spinning him around.

We danced for awhile. Every once in awhile Sirius would dip me, pecking my lips as he did so.

The rain was pouring down, and my once curled hair was now flat. My white converse were, as predicted, muddy. And my makeup was running slightly.

Though none of that stopped Sirius from pulling me into him as our lips met.
One hand lay on the small of my back, the other on the back of my neck as he pulled me even closer.
I wrapped my arms around his neck in an attempt to pull him closer. Sirius slowly lead us towards the tree. My back hitting the tree as Sirius pulled us even closer.

Our eyes remained closed as we kissed so passionately.

There was so much love that went into this kiss. The kiss spoke words for us. Telling the other just how much the person loved them.

Eventually Sirius pulled away, breathing for air.
I sank to the bottom of the tree as I attempted to catch my breath. Sirius following.

I leaned my head on his shoulder. Sighing as we listened to the rain hit the ground.
Our lips swollen, and our hearts beating quickly.

The thunder roared in the background, but all that mattered was Sirius.

"Claire. You know I love you more than anything," Sirius mumbled.
"You know I love you more than anything," I spoke, looking up at him. But only to see him looking down at me.
"And we're almost done with Hogwarts," Sirius continued.
"Yeah. But we've already decided we're going to find a house," I added.
"I know Claire. But-"
"But what?" I asked, looking up at the cloudy sky.
"Claire, marry me," Sirius said almost inaudibly.

I froze. My heart beating faster. I whipped around to look at him. Looking for any sign of me hearing him wrong.
But his face told me he was being serious.

"What?" I questioned.
"Marry me," Sirius repeated, pulling out a small black velvet box.

I gasped as he opened the box to reveal the most beautiful ring I have ever seen.
It was simple. The rose gold band was perfectly twisted together. A single diamond rested on top.
Tears filled my eyes as I looked up at Sirius, who had a very anxious face as he patiently waited for my answer.

I slowly nodded. Which soon turned into me nodding continually.
"Yes!" I finally said. Tears falling freely from my eyes.

Sirius slipped the simple but elegant ring onto my finger.

"It's beautiful," I exclaimed, throwing my arms around him as I kissed him even more passionately than before.
"Not as beautiful as you," Sirius spoke as we pulled away.

We had somehow ended up completely laying in the muddy grass. My head resting on his chest.

I laughed aloud at his comment.

"I love you so much I can't even express it," Sirius mumbled as he kissed the top of my head.
"I love you so much, words can't even begin to explain how much I love you," I said, pecking his lips.

My smile widened as tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Why are crying love?" Sirius laughed shakily. Tears of his own forming in his eyes.
"I'm just so happy," I laughed. The tears falling faster.

Sirius wrapped his arms around me. Hugging me tightly as we both cried tears of joy.

"We need to go back and take showers," Sirius whispered in my ear.
"But I want to stay here with you forever," I mumbled.
"I know you do. And so do I. But the faster we take showers the faster we can go to sleep. You know, where it's not freezing cold," Sirius stated.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" I asked, thinking back to the nightmares I'd get if I didn't stay with him.
"Course you can love."

So we got to our feet. Wiping off as much mud as possible before stepping into the castle and sneaking back to the Gryffindor common room.
We parted ways – of course not before kissing – and I walked up to the girls dormitory where I would quickly shower.

The room was dark when I stepped in. I could hear soft snores coming from the two girls.
I squinted my eyes in attempt to navigate my way to my bed. And was able to grab what I thought was clothes, and a small piece of parchment that was oddly placed upon it.

Walking to the bathroom with what I hoped to be clothes – and an oddly placed parchment – I closed the bathroom door quietly before flicking the light on.

The parchment atop of what I now recognized as Sirius's sweatshirt and my black shorts, was actually a note.

Judging by the very neat handwriting. I guessed Lily had written this.

Congratulations!!!
We know you said yes future Mrs. Black, and we are so happy for you! We're sorry we weren't awake to talk to you tonight, but you'll be telling us the details tomorrow. We washed your clothes for you so that you'd have something to wear when you got back. Again, so sorry we can't talk now, but we look forward to talking tomorrow!
Love,
Lily and Camellia

I smiled at the note. Remembering how much those two meant to me.

Letting out a sigh, I turned the water on in the shower. Allowing it to heat up.

I removed my muddy clothes and set it aside. Making a mental note to wash it later.

Stepping inside of the shower, I sighed as the warm water hit my back. Usually I would take my time and appreciate the warm water more. But I was eager to see my fiancé. My smile widened at the word.

I quickly scrubbed the mud out of my hair and removed the remaining makeup from my face.
Washing my hair and body quickly, I was finally able to step out of the shower. Wrapping a towel around my body.
I wringed my hair out with the towel. Deciding I'd let it air dry.

Quickly drying off, I got dressed and brushed my teeth. Doing all of my other nighttime routines.

Before leaving though, I checked to make sure I was still wearing all of my jewelry.
I had my necklace, bracelet, engagement ri- wait a minute.

My eyes widened as I realized I wasn't wearing my ring, but then facepalmed when I realized I had taken it off before showering so that I'd remember to check for dirt.
I grabbed it from the counter, quickly scanning for dirt. Breathing a sigh of relief, I slipped the ring onto my left ring finger. Reminding myself never to take the ring off again.

I hurried out of the girls dormitory, down the stairs, and up the boys stairs. Making sure I went all the way down to the seventh year boys dormitory. I slowly opened the door. Loud snores filled the air, but I didn't mind it as I had been sleeping in the boys dorm for awhile because of the nightmares.

The sound of a shower running made me assume Sirius was still showering. And with a look at Sirius's watch that lay on his nightstand, I discovered it was one in the morning. I had only taken fifteen minutes.

I figured he had probably spoken to one of the guys before he showered, and decided I'd wait for him on his bed.

I sat with my legs crossed on his bed. I spent the few minutes I had before Sirius was done admiring the ring.

I had no idea how Sirius knew I liked the look of twisted bands. But I shook the thought off and smiled at the fact that I actually had an engagement ring on my finger.

Lily and Camellia's words came back to me, and I realized that I was going to be Mrs. Black.

I wasn't going to just be Sirius's girlfriend. I was going to be his wife.
And he was going to be my husband.

I hadn't even realized I was crying again. Or that the water had stopped and the bathroom door had opened. Not until the bed sank slightly and my tears had been wiped away by a hand that wasn't my own.

"I didn't think you'd be this emotional," Sirius whispered.
"Me either," I laughed softly.

He laid down on the bed. Pulling me down with him as he pulled the covers over us.

His arms were wrapped around my waist, keeping me close to him.

I looked up into his grey eyes and smiled.

"What?" Sirius questioned.
"Nothing. It just sort of hit me. We're going to get married. You're going to be my husband," I said, voicing my previous thoughts.
"That's sounds unreal. Like a dream," Sirius muttered.
"One I hope to never wake up from," I whispered, resting my head on his chest.

It was silent for a moment. Both of us just soaking in this new feeling.

"When do you want to get married?" I asked.
"Well I mean we're still young. So if you want to wait a few years then I'm fine with that," Sirius stated.

I frowned at the statement. Just now realizing how much I had been hoping to get married right away.
I felt guilty for thinking this, as I knew we were indeed young and that if Sirius didn't want to get married now he had every right to want to wait.

"If you want to wait then that's fine," I mumbled.
"Claire. If I'm being honest. I just want to marry you. If you want to wait, then we'll wait. But just know I'm fine with whatever," Sirius spoke.
I sighed in relief.
"Thank Merlin. I don't think I can wait more than a year to get married if I'm being honest," I admitted with a sheepish smile.
"Well there's a start. We'll be married in less than a year," Sirius mumbled in my ear, making my heart speed up.
"Well when you put it like that it sounds so surreal," I giggled.

It was silent once again. Sirius kissing the back of my neck as we lay in the bed.

"Merlin Claire. I love you so much," Sirius spoke when his lips finally met my own.
"I love you more than anything in the world. Bet you can't beat that," I betted.
"I love you more than my parents hate muggleborns," Sirius spoke.
"Ok yeah. You beat me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guys I'm screaming!
I can't believe this just happened!
Sirius and Claire are engaged!
I could keep screaming, but I do have a few things to say.
Firstly, James and Lily are head boy and girl. However their beds were never removed from the Gryffindor dorms, so every once in awhile they stay with the rest of them.
Secondly, is anyone else having issues with using bold and italics? Every time I use one of them it doesn't let me change it back. Like how I use bold for the point of view, it'll make me use bold for the rest of the story.
Thirdly, I'd show a picture of the ring, but the picture has the wedding band in it to. I will show the picture in whatever chapter it is that they get married though!
Fourthly, I hope you're having a great day!
