Chapter 30

•This story takes scenes from the Harry Potter series. I want to make it clear that I don't own those scenes. That's owned by

~Scarlett~

"I wonder who Hogwarts's champion'll be..." I wondered aloud as Jeremy and I sat at Gryffindor's table waiting for the champions to be chosen.

It was Saturday and it was finally time for the Goblet of Fire to make its choices. I had skipped the feast in which Dumbledore announced the decision maker as I had a killer headache — and still do — but Katie filled me in. All morning people have been putting their names into the flaming goblet, and I even caught Fred trying to put his own name in. George was very sour about this as Fred used the potion George had made, but he got over it when he saw it backfire.

After getting no response from Jeremy, I turned to see him staring at something behind me. Turning in my seat, I saw Jeremy was staring right at the Beauxbatons girls.

"Jeremy," I scowled, waving a hand in front of his face. He jumped slightly, immediately looking away from the girls.

"Did, did you say something?" He stuttered, looking around wildly as if he forgot where he was.

"Nope," I scoffed, turning to look at the night sky. Well, the ceiling enchanted to look like the night sky. I didn't necessarily care that he was goggling at the girls, as I didn't really have any feelings for Jeremy. But Jeremy didn't know that, he thought it was a perfectly normal relationship. So it's just saying how much of a git he is that he's eyeing other girls in front of his girlfriend.

"Alright." And he turned right back to those girls!

I rolled my eyes, pushing all thoughts of guys to the back of my head and focused on the ceiling and the delicious brownies I managed to grab.

Well until they disappeared with a pop as Dumbledore rose from his seat.

Asshole.

All attention moved to Dumbledore and the Goblet of Fire sitting in the middle of the hall. Even Jeremy tore his eyes away from the girls to look at Dumbledore.

"Well, the goblet is almost ready to make its decision," said Dumbledore. "I estimate that it requires one more minute. Now, when the champions' names are called, I would ask them please to come up to the top of the Hall, walk along the staff table, and go through into the next chamber" — he indicated the door behind the staff table — "where they will be receiving their first instructions."

He retrieved his wand, waving it so that all of the candles except those inside the carved pumpkins were extinguished. The Goblet of Fire now shone more brightly than anything in the whole Hall, the sparkling bright, bluey-whiteness of the flames almost painful on the eyes.

"Any second!" Fred exclaimed. I glanced over at his excited expression, anticipation filling his eyes.

I groaned internally as thoughts of Fred filled my head for the millionth time. I just wanted to bang my head against a wall repeatedly. Anything to clear my head. I didn't want to think about how good Fred looked with the sleeves of his shirt pushed up to his forearms. I didn't want to think about how much I envy Angelina for being right next to Fred right now. And I sure as hell didn't want to keep count of how many freckles Fred had.

But yet I knew it was 307 because I counted last year.

"Scarlett pay attention," Jeremy nudged me, pulling me out of my trance.

The flames inside the goblet turned red, sparks shooting out of it occasionally. A tongue of flame shot into the air, a charred piece of parchment fluttered out of it — the whole room gasped.

I leaned forward, finding a sudden interest to know who had been chosen.

Dumbledore caught the piece of parchment and held it at arm's length, so that he could read it by the light of the flames, which had turned back to blue-white.

"The champion for Durmstrang," he read, in a strong, clear voice, "will be Viktor Krum."

Many girls drooled over him, and some Quidditch loving guys stared a little, but I didn't really see the big deal. He had too much muscle and never seemed to smile. I don't know what it was about him but I just didn't like him.

"Babe, can you please stop checking other people out when I'm sitting right next to you," Jeremy scowled.

Oh you're one to talk.

"Yeah, sorry," I muttered, turning my attention back to Dumbledore and the goblet. Viktor was now making his way up to the staff table. The flames turned red again and another piece of parchment shot out.

"The champion for Beauxbatons," Dumbledore said, "is Fleur Delacour!"

I watched as Jeremy followed her every movements from when she stood up all the way to when she was out of view. This time I scowled. What gives him the right to scold me for checking someone out — which I wasn't even doing — when he's so clearly checking her out?

The goblet once again burst into red flames before the last piece of parchment shot into the air, fluttering down into Dumbledore's outstretched hand. Everyone leaned forward in anticipation, eager to find out who Hogwarts' champion will be.

"The Hogwarts champion," he called, "is Cedric Diggory!"

Every single Hufflepuff jumped to their feet, screaming and cheering for their fellow Hufflepuff who had started to make his way to the back where he'd join the other two champions.

"Excellent!" Dumbledore called happily as at last the tumult died down. "Well, we now have our three champions. I am sure I can count upon all of you, including the remaining students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, to give your champions every ounce of support you can muster. By cheering your champions on, you will contribute in a very real—"

But Dumbledore stopped speaking, and it was apparent to everybody what had distracted him. The fire in the goblet had just turned red again. Sparks were flying out of it. A long flame shot suddenly into the air, and borne upon it was another piece of parchment.

Automatically, it seemed, Dumbledore reached out a long hand and seized the parchment. He held it out and stared at the name written upon it. There was a long pause, during which Dumbledore stared at the slip in his hands, and everyone in the room stared at Dumbledore. And then Dumbledore cleared his throat and read out, "Harry Potter."

My jaw dropped, eyes widening as my head snapped over to where my godbrother was sitting. He himself looked completely taken aback. His own jaw was hanging open and his eyes were as wide as saucers behind his glasses. The whole hall was silent. No applause. Just utter silence.

McGonagall jumped up from where she was sitting at the staff table and quickly made her way to Dumbledore to whisper in his ear urgently.

Harry finally spotted me and mouthed 'I didn't put my name in.'

I just stared, not knowing what to say. My godbrother is going to have to compete in three dangerous challenges that could get him killed. How are you supposed to react to that?

Dumbledore nodded at McGonagall before looking back up at all of us.

"Harry Potter!" he called. "Harry! Up here, if you please!"

I could see Hermione nudging Harry, telling him to go up. Harry stumbled slightly — still in complete shock — and slowly made his way up to Dumbledore. I could see him glancing around the hall at all of the different looks he was getting. Some were jealous, some concerned, others were mad. Jeremy, I could see, was completely jealous. He was one of the people that put his name in the goblet and clearly envied Harry for being able to cheat his way in.

After what seemed like an hour Harry was in front of Dumbledore, trying to convince him that he didn't put his name in and that he didn't want to compete. But Dumbledore just shook his head and ushered him to the chamber where the other champions had gone.

As soon as Harry was out of sight the hall seemed to come back to life as an uproar sounded. Most people were angry and shouted at Dumbledore that they should be able to compete as well, and the rest were yelling why he shouldn't compete cause he's underage and could get injured. I happened to be amongst the concerned people, furious that Harry was going to have to go through with this life threatening tournament.

"Enough!" Dumbledore silenced us, holding up a hand. "This will be resolved shortly, but for now you are all dismissed."

There were a few more shouts, but once Dumbledore had left people began to give up and just left the hall angrily.

I turned to Jeremy who was rambling to his friends that he made me sit with about how this was unfair. I tugged slightly on his hand to get his attention.

"What?" He asked me, clearly annoyed that I was interrupting him.

"I'm going back to the common room, are you coming?" I questioned.

"Yeah in a second. Wait for me?"

I nodded, looking around the hall in boredom as Jeremy finished. My mind was racing with what I'd say to Harry when I got the chance, and I hardly noticed when George came up to me.

"Earth to Scarlett," George waved his hand in front of my face, attempting to get my attention.

"Huh?" I asked, looking up at him.

"I said don't worry to much about this. Harry'll be fine," he reassured. I just nodded, still shocked about the whole thing.

"But on the bright side, I saw Fred glaring at Jeremy earlier," George stated, seemingly proud of that reaction.

"I really can't stand to think about Fred right now," I told him. Just the idea of Fred made my head hurt.

"Fair enough," he said. "I'll see you later then?"

"Yeah," I agreed, noticing that Jeremy was finishing up. "You should probably go before Jeremy notices and gets jealous."

George glances at Jeremy, rolling his eyes. "Tell me why we had to use him again?"

"He was already into me and was going to be the easiest to convince to date me," I reminded him. "And this was also your idea."

"Yeah, yeah," George sighed, seeing that Jeremy's friends were slowly leaving. "Well I'm gonna go."

I waved at him, watching as he quickly walked away to avoid Jeremy.

"I don't really understand why you still hang out with him," Jeremy thought aloud.

I jumped at the sound of his voice, unaware that he had been standing next to me.

"You scared me," I laughed weakly. It's been awhile since I've actually really laughed.

Jeremy laughed loudly, grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the hall. I winced slightly at his tight grip but didn't say anything, just walking in step with him.

Jeremy always seemed to be in a rush, as if if we weren't the first to the common room then the world would come to an end. But since Jeremy had been talking with his friends, we didn't get there first like we usually did.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Jeremy said, giving me a hard, messy kiss.

He turned and made his way to the boys' dormitories with one last wave. I let out a sigh I hadn't realized I had been holding, and wiped my lips with my sleeve.

I slowly started up the stairs and made my way to my own dormitory that was empty. I quickly changed and did my usual nightly routine before climbing in bed before any of the girls got here.

I never get to talk with them anymore.

Nowadays the only people I ever talk to are Jeremy, George, Harry, and occasionally Katie. Which doesn't seemed like it'd be all that bad, but it gets tiring and sometimes I wish I just never had feelings for Fred in the first place.

Then maybe none of this would've happened.

Finally an update! I feel like it's been forever since I've updated, and I'm really sorry about that I've just been really busy with school and stuff.  But I'm really trying to get this story finished, cause it's almost been a year since I started it...
Anyway, we actually have a chapterly (which isn't really chapterly anymore) question from Justine3137731 who's asked, Who introduced Harry Potter to you? Like did you just decide to start reading/watching one day or did a obsessed friend recomend?

My answer, it was actually on the Thanksgiving I think two years ago around the time the first Fantastic Beasts came out. We had gone out cause we hadn't planned anything and were sitting in the restaurant trying to think of something to do when my mom suggested going to see Fantastic Beasts. We thought it was another Harry Potter movie (it's clearly not) and decided that we would just start the Harry Potter series. I vividly remember starting that first movie and hearing the theme song play. I was grinning from ear to ear, immediately in love with it. I'm not even kidding I could feel the obsession growing. And that was the start of my crazy Harry Potter addiction.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed! I love you all! ¡Adios!
