After not hearing a response from his girlfriend an uneasy feeling washed over him so Steve doubled back to see what was going on to see her on the ground with her leg gushing blood he takes off in sprint dropping down beside her calling into the comms "I need a medic here officer down, I repeat I need a medic officer down" putting pressure on her leg to try and slow the bleeding down with one hand he pulls some medical supplies out of the pocket of his cargo pants and packs the wound with gauze trying to slow the bleeding down and puts more pressure on the wound.

"Lila look at me" she's barely holding her eyes open "Lila baby you gotta stay awake, you gotta keep your eyes open there is a medic on the way, we're going to get you outta here and to a hospital... you're going to be okay."

She starts to close her eye but Steve's voice stops her "hey, no, no, no come on baby keep those gorgeous blue eyes open just focus on my voice"

"WHERE THE HELL IS MY DAMN MEDIC" Steve yells out trying to keep from panicking. Danny comes running over where he heard Steve yell from and sees his sister on the ground her leg bleeding a lot. So he drops down beside her as well seeing her barely keeping her eyes open "Lila babe, you have to stay awake."

Steve looks at Danny "go and see where the hell the medic I called for is" Danny seeing that Steve was keeping the pressure on Lila's leg and also catching the very distressed and slightly panicked and fear-stricken tone in his voice. Danny nods and goes to see what's keeping the medic as Steve looks at his girlfriend "hey Danny went to see what's keeping the medic come on Lila baby you gotta stay awake you can do it, just keep focusing on the sound of my voice."

Steve can feel the tears prick in his eyes at the thought of losing Lila, she has been a constant in his life since the Naval Academy where they met and he knows without a doubt that she is the love of his life, the woman that he wants to marry one day and has no clue what he would do without her.

"S-st-steve?"

His eyes snap up to meet hers "I'm right here baby" he using his free hand to softly caress her face before he uses it as well to keep the pressure on her wound

"d-did we get t-them?"

He nods "yeah Lila we got em."

"g-good."

"Hang in there okay? Help is on the way Danny won't let up until we get a medic over here."

"it's s-so c-cold... I-I love y-y-you Steven" a tear slips down her face "you know that r-r-right?"

He nods at her "yeah Lila I do and I love you too baby."

She smiles but it comes off more like a grimace "just in case I wanted to say it one last time."

The man just shook his head "don't say that... everything is going to be okay."

Then Danny comes running back over with a medic and they get her loaded on a gurney and the EMT takes Steve's place putting pressure on her leg. They get her to an ambulance and the EMT looks at Danny and Steve "which one if you is riding with her?"

Steve doesn't even give Danny a chance to answer "I'll go with her" then he looks at Danny "fill Chin and Kono in and then meet us at Tripler, that's where they are going to take her. It's the closest hospital to our location."

Then Steve climbs into the back of the ambulance leaving Danny to be the messenger of what happened with his sister. Danny walks off grumbling about how he didn't even get a chance to ride with her to make sure she was okay. In the ambulance, Steve grabs her hand "Lila baby, if you can hear me squeeze my hand, okay save your strength don't try to speak," after a few seconds she squeezes his hand and he nods to the EMT "she's still awake."

The EMT is trying to stop the bleeding as they speed down the highway to get the girl to the hospital "as soon as we get there she is going to have to be taken into surgery if she's going to stand a chance at surviving from the looks of it that bullet tore clean through her femoral artery which is why there's so much blood," Steve caresses her face as they wheel her through the ER doors the EMT barking orders at the nurses just as they get her into the hospital her eyes roll into the back of her head finally succumbing to the darkness.

Steve is forced to wait in the waiting room as they take her back into surgery. Kono notices Steve looking genuinely shaken by this as the three remaining team members walk into the room. Danny looks at Steve "what do we know?"

Steve shakes his head trying to keep his voice from shaking "nothing yet, they took her straight into surgery as soon as we hit the floor and it's only been maybe 15 minutes" Kono seemingly was the only one to notice the tremble of fear in her boss's voice and if the circumstances had been better she would have smirked that right there confirming her theory about Steve and Lila being together.

Steve paced the waiting room floor for nearly three hours before a doctor came from the double doors looking at the only four people in the waiting room "I'm Doctor Keanu, are you here for Lieutenant Williams?"

Steve nods at the doctor "Yes Sir"

The doctor smiles at them "her surgery went off without a hitch, we were able to fix the tear in her femoral artery although she did lose a lot of blood we were able to transfuse during her surgery and even though it was a bit unorthodox the packing of her wound is what saved her life it slowed the bleeding enough for her to make it here... they are going to be just fine."

Hearing the doc say that Lila is going to be okay there is a huge weight lifted off of Steve's shoulders, but then it registered that he said they no one else seemed to catch that though.

"Can we see her?" Danny questions the doctor wanting to see his sister with his own eyes.

"Of course if you four would follow me she's up in recovery, she probably won't be awake for another hour or so" They are led upto a room, the others walk into the room while Steve stood outside with the Doctor.

"You said they were going to be fine?"

The Doctor nodded "oh yes Lieutenant Williams and her baby, we weren't sure if the baby was going to be okay because of all the stress on Lieutenant Williams' body from the gunshot wound but it seems the little one is a fighter."

"She's pregnant?"

"Yes and from the readings only 8 weeks so the odds are that she herself wasn't aware that she was pregnant yet, the elevated levels of HCG in her blood when we drew it to find out the type for the transfusion was when we discovered it." (Idk if that's actually how that works but let's just pretend it is for this book.)

Steve nodded at the Doctor, "thank you Doctor." The Doctor walked away and Steve blew out a breath and leaned against the wall for a moment, to collect himself he just found out that this girlfriend was pregnant, that he was going to be a father and that she came close to losing the baby before she even knew that she was pregnant. Steve knew that she didn't know yet because she would have told him as soon as she found out.

He calmed himself down and walked into the room to see Lila laying in a hospital bed looking very pale but that's due to all the blood she lost. He couldn't help but let his eyes linger on her stomach slightly as the Doctors words played over in his head.

Steve sat in the empty chair on the left side of her bed and Danny is on the right with Chin beside Danny and Kono beside Steve waiting for the girl to wake up.

Kono looked at Steve noticing the look in his eye but she didn't question it knowing that it wasn't the time.

The four of them sat around her bed for about an hour and a half before they hear a slight groan and Lila's eyes flutter open and with the way her head was positioned to the left the first person she saw was Steve.

Soooo next chapter is the first part of Danny finding out about Steve and Lila it hurt me to put my babies through all that but it was necessary for Danny to find out the way I have planned.

Also I had originally planned to do the whole Lila being pregnant/finding out about the pregnancy thing after this part but then decided against it but now that I'm reposting the chapters on this account I decided to go back to that and use it so yeah 😅 🙃 🤭.
