Long Way Back From Hell

Cassie woke up the next morning and she got dressed and walked out of her room heading downstairs she sees Elijah and Marcel talking so Cassie walked over and joined them as Marcel said "They're putting eyes and ears out everywhere. Daywalkers are working every contact we've got. Cops, dock workers, guys in the Treme... Word is out: anyone trying to earn favor with me gets a lifetime of it if they find them."

Cassie looked between them confused, she had only known that Klaus was missing "them?"

Elijah looked at her "Rebekah has been taken as well." Then he looked at Marcel "I need a pen and paper." then Elijah walked away, Marcel rolled his eyes but followed him and Cassie was walking behind Marcel.

Marcel gave the Original a look "Hey, am I taking orders from you now, or are we in this together?"

Elijah took his jacket off and gave the younger vampire an annoyed look "Pen and paper, Marcellus. Now!" Marcel walked out of the room to do as Elijah asked.

Cassie gave him a look "what's happening Lijah?" The suited original started taking his shirt off and Cassie noticed the names written all over him "what is this?"

He looked at his brother's soulmate " when Marcel gets back I need you to make a list of all of these names."

Cassie nodded "okay, sure Lijah."

Hayley walked into the study "I heard voices, Elijah, you're back." then she noticed that he was shirtless and with names tattooed on him. "What's all of this?" Hayley is reading some of the names while they waited for Marcel so Cassie could make the list for Elijah "Sabine? Elijah, what's going on?"

He looked at the two girls " I believe they represent the names of the women Celeste inhabited for the past two centuries."

Marcel reentered the room handing the paper and pen to Cassie, she nodded at him in thanks and started making the list, "It's called a Devinette. It's old school. Kind of a riddle. Witches use them to teach their kids. Solve it, and it disappears."

Hayley looked at the vampire " Why? What's the point?"

Elijah looked over at the werewolf "Celeste forced me to make a choice between yourself and my siblings, and now she means to mock that choice, taunting me with a childish game. The longer the game, the more they suffer. To find Klaus and Rebekah, we need to solve this riddle. The solution lies somewhere in these names."

Cassie finished the list and handed it to Elijah "there you go... now let's see if we can't solve this and find Nik and Bekah."

Elijah nodded at her "thanks Cass."

Marcel was reading the names and looked at the suited original "The name next to Sabine... Annie La Fleur, she's the witch that was shunned from her coven just over a year ago. Never knew why, but I can find out."

Cassie had refused to let the two vampires go without her, she wanted to help in whatever way she could, Elijah had disagreed with her but in the end, she won so they three were walking through the neighborhood where Annie lived after she was shunned. Once there, they were able to speak to someone who knew her from the coven.

The man looked at the trio "Annie was a good girl. The witches did her wrong, shunning her like that-- claiming she was doing dark magic. There's no way. But, they had proof. So, she just quit, and I can't really blame her for that. 'Cause once you've been shunned, what's the point in going on, you know?"

After they were done there they headed back to the French Quarter and Elijah was on the phone explaining what they had found out to Hayley.

After his call with Hayley Cassie and Elijah met back up with Marcel at The Pit, she wasn't quite sure why they were there but if it helped find Klaus and Rebekah she didn't really care all that much at the moment.

Marcel's vampires are casually relaxing at the bar when suddenly the doors fly open and a man is thrown onto the floor. Cassie, Elijah, and Marcel follow in behind him, and Marcel throws him into a chair.

Cassie is standing back and letting Elijah and Marcel do the hard work here, the man looked at the two vampires terrified "Wh-what do you want from me?"

Elijah gave him a look "Well, I assume you're familiar with this pigsty, quite appropriately known as the Pit. See, awkwardly enough, only weeks ago, a group of human beings just like yourself slaughtered many of the companions of the vampires that you see assembled before you here."

" You run the records room at City Hall. We're told the former Mayor kept a detailed record of the supernatural community. A ledger of names of witches, werewolves, and vampires. Specifically, their death records. We need it."

The man looked between the two again " I-I don't know where it is."

None of them believed that though " I think we both know that's a fib. Anyone feeling hungry?" He gave Cassie a look and she nodded she was the closest to the door so she closed it so that the nightwalkers could come out without burning to death because of the sun.

After that, the man easily complied "Oh! Okay, w-wait! They moved the records after the Mayor died. They're at the sacristy of St. Anne's Church."

" See? There, wasn't so difficult, now, was it?"

The trio is in the rectory of the church, searching through all of the documents on the supernatural community. Elijah looked at the younger vampire "Marcel, here's another name from our list: Brynne Deveraux. Says here she drowned herself some twenty years ago. Do you recognize the name?"

He looked back at the original "Brynne? Yeah, yeah, we used to hang out. " Marcel smirked "Knock around a bit."

Cassie scrunched her nose up "tmi Marcel tmi."

Elijah agreed with the blonde "You can spare us the details, please."

"She used to do some spells for me now and then. The girl had power. Cursed a whole pack of werewolves just because they were pissing me off. Speaking of, what do you think Klaus is gonna do when he finds out that you left him to suffer while you saved Hayley and her wolf friends?"

Cassie decided to come into the conversation before Elijah answered "honestly I don't think he would mind that much, I mean Elijah saved Nik's unborn daughter by choosing to save Hayley first... just my opinion there."

Elijah nodded at her and then looked back at Marcel "Let's avoid discussing matters that are not your concern, shall we, Marcellus?"

"Oh, come on, Elijah. I got guys all over this city. Do you honestly think that I don't know that the Crescent wolves had a little family reunion out at the plantation last night? Thanks for letting the house burn, by the way. Good riddance! But my question is, what's Hayley doing with that bunch?"

"Marcel, I'm aware of your history with the city's wolves, and I assume you understand that if you lay a finger upon Hayley, it will be the last thing you do on this earth."

Cassie is skimming over the records while the boys are talking, she blocks them out at that point. Until she finds something and she smirked looking at the boys "found something, We were right! Every name upon Elijah's flesh signifies a witch who died by her own hand. All but one. Clara Summerlin."

They look at her then Marcel looks at the Original "Ring any bells?"

Elijah shook his head "none."

Marcel looked back at the blonde alien "Okay, well, if she didn't off herself, then how did she die?"

Elijah read the information from the page that Cassie had handed him "Influenza Epidemic of 1919." Suddenly, the names tattooed on Elijah's body vanish, and both he and Marcel look shocked. Marcel looks as though he's feeling anxious and guilty about where this investigation seems to be heading.

Cassie had noticed the look on Marcel's face when that was mentioned, Elijah looked between the two of them "I suppose we have our answer, though I have no idea what it means." After they had the information, they headed back to the compound.

Astrid pulled her sister aside as they got back to the compound "what have you found out so far?"

So Cassie explained everything that they had learned while they were out, the older blonde gave her a look "wow you have been busy today." Cassie nodded.

"yeah, I've got to meet them in the study to see what Hayley found out while we were out, I will tell you everything else later."

Astrid nodded "okay then."

Cassie walked into the study in time to hear Hayley say "Not much. She was a nurse at the Fleur-de-Lis Sanitarium." Marcel freezes and visibly begins to panic.

Hayley looks at them "Recognize her?" She clicks on a picture and points to her so, Marcel and Elijah can see what she looked like "Top row, second from the right."

Elijah shook his head "No, I don't. Marcel?" Elijah turns to look at Marcel to hear what he has to say, and notices how alarmed and worried he looks. "Marcel? Do I need to remind you that Niklaus and Rebekah are somewhere suffering horribly? If you know something, talk."

The younger vampire sighed knowing exactly where they'd find Klaus and Rebekah "The Sanitarium. That's where you'll find them."

Hayley and Cassie both asked the same question at the same time "Are you sure? How do you know?"

Marcel looked at the two girls "I just know."

Elijah gave him a look "how do you know?"

Marcel sighed looking at Elijah "If I'm right, you need to know exactly what we're walking into. We did something, Rebekah and I... I think the witches are trying to use it against her. It was, uh... something that you're not gonna like."

Marcel has just informed Cassie, Elijah, and Hayley that he and Rebekah had summoned Mikael to New Orleans in 1919.

"For the better part of a century, I have wondered how Father found us, what foolish mistake that we had made to destroy our time in the one place that we could finally call home. Did you know, I even blamed myself for a time, Marcellus?"

Hayley looked at the original "Elijah-" Cassie just looked surprised at the new information.

He ignored her and kept talking to Marcel "Niklaus treated you like a son."

"Rebekah. I loved her. I still love her. All we ever wanted was to be together, but as long as Klaus was around, that was never gonna happen. But hey, I guess you wouldn't know anything about that, huh?"

"Nik is going to be pissed when he learns the truth."

"Cassie is right, when Klaus learns the truth, there will be no end to his rage. I will not let my sister suffer that wrath."

"Then we need to get to them before he learns the truth." After Marcel said that they set out to the sanitorium.

They arrived at the sanitorium. Elijah looked at them "we should divide the building." The trio agreed and they each took a separate part of the building trying to find the two originals.

Cassie was walking through the place "damn this place is huge... I hope Elijah or Marcel are having more luck than I am."

Eventually, Cassie found the others she had walked into the room in time to see Elijah stab Klaus with Papa Tunde's blade. "well I see I missed all the action." Rebekah hugged the blonde alien, Cassie hugged her back, she knew that this would be the last time she saw Rebekah for a while.

Elijah looked at Marcel and Rebekah "Go. Both of you. Run as far and as fast as you can. Run!" Rebekah and Marcel get away, leaving Elijah with a disabled Klaus in his arms.

Cassie looked at him "what are we going to do?"

"We will start by getting him back to the compound and we'll go from there, the blade in him is the only thing keeping Rebekah from being hunted right now I want to give her enough time to get as far from this city as possible before taking it out."

The two headed back to the compound after that and Cassie met her sister in her room planning to tell her everything else that had happened." Astrid doesn't like getting involved unless she absolutely has to which really only happens if Cassie gets hurt in any kind of way or she will help her sister do research about things but won't physically get involved.
