06. Take It Off

"Hold up," I say as we pull up to the school parking lot, Stiles finally telling me everything that happened the night before. I wasn't home last night, since I was helping Allison research for anything involving flies, so I didn't get to hear the story until the ride to school today. "So that's why the power is out in town?"

"That's exactly why," Stiles nods, parking the Jeep as it rumbles underneath us. "It was like she absorbed all of the electricity...she didn't even seem to know what caused it either."

"Is she like us?" I ask, earning a look from Stiles. I didn't specify. "You know, like Lydia or Scott-"

"Pretty sure if I were to electrify Lydia that she wouldn't be standing," Stiles says, causing me to groan. That wasn't what I meant. "I know that she's not like Scott. I've never heard of a werewolf that could withstand 1.20 gigawatts of electricity."

My mind flashes back to the visions I saw of Kira that day in class, none of it still making sense. "On the first day of school, I saw something when Kira's name was first brought up. It was a fox or something. What if that has something to do with it?"

"I don't know, but I do know that we need to figure out what in the hell she is and what she's here for before she starts murdering people left and right. We don't need another Jennifer Blake," Stiles groans, grabbing his backpack from the back before getting out of the Jeep. I follow his actions as we walk up to the school, hearing the chatter of other students as they walked on by.

"Maybe she really doesn't know what she is, like you said a minute ago. Maybe she's harmless," I say, trying to be positive. I knew Stiles had a point, but that didn't mean we should avoid her at all costs.

Stiles pushes open the doors, the sound intensifying. "That girl absorbed all of the power in Beacon Hills. I don't think she's completely harmless."

I sigh. "Who do you think left that message in the chemistry room?"

"Hard to tell," Stiles stops at his locker, opening it to have a set of keys fall out. "My money is on the twins."

I furrow my eyebrows. "What?"

"I just don't like them," he narrows his eyes as he looks across the hall, finding them standing there at their lockers. I mean, I didn't trust the twins either, but I don't think they wanted to kill Kira.

Stiles bends over and picks up the set of keys, staring at them. "Is this yours?"

I look down at it, narrowing my eyes. "No, I only have a key to my truck and to the house...and Allison's, but don't tell anyone that."

He winks at me. "Noted. Maybe it's Scott's key...I don't know. It's not mine."

Stiles shoves the key into his pocket as he grabs his text book, shutting the locker and turning to walk down the hall. Just as he started walking, I see Jade come up to me out of the corner of my eye, looking nervous about something. Stiles was already walking away as Jade stopped me, leaving only me and her, and the noisy students in the hall.

"Why do you look so freaked out?" I ask, furrowing my eyerbrows.

Jade shakes her head. "I saw something last night, and I don't know what to do. I think I'm losing my mind-"

"Hey, what happened?" I ask again, more concerned. It was weird to see Jade spooked.

She runs her fingers through her hair. "I was reading back at home on the couch last night when the lights went out. I didn't think much of it, so I just grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight on it and kept reading. Then I just...I don't know how to describe it. These things...they came out of the dark, Corey."

I was confused. "People?"

"They weren't people," she fades out, closing her eyes before rubbing them. "It was like they came out of the shadows."

She looks back up at me, fright in her eyes. "Did they hurt you?"

"No, but they wanted to," she shakes her head. "I swore they were going to get me...but then the generator we had kicked on. When the light came, they were gone."

I wasn't sure what to think about her story. It did sound like she was crazy, but I guess everyone in Beacon Hills was a little bit crazy. "Jade, I'm sorry, but that sounds crazy-"

"I must have been seeing things," she says, looking back down, telling herself that in her head over and over again. "I had to of been. But why did it feel so real?"

"I've been there," I say, nodding my head. "I've have visions before that felt like I was there and that I could touch them, but they aren't. It's all in my head."

She takes a step away from me, rubbing her forehead with her right hand. "Every time I close my eyes, I see them. I see their eyes looking at me through the darkness."

"How many of them were there?" I ask, just wondering.

"Five," she breathes, sounding as if it really was horrifying. "And I think they wanted to kill me."

Out of all of the things I could be doing on a Friday night, I was at a black light party.

I mean, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Allison wanting me to go. No way in hell was I going to let her go alone to something like this, especially if whatever Jade saw was actually real. If five shadow creatures were going to make an appearance, I wanted to be there. It's a good thing she's teaching me a few moves on how to fight.

"How did you talk me into getting painted?" I yell over the music, looking over at Allison. She was standing there staring at me, a smirk plastered onto her face. Another girl was standing in front of her painting as well, blocking my view of it.

She yells back at me. "I don't know, but I sure am enjoying the view."

I raise my eyebrow at her, glancing down at the artist as she finished up her work on my chest. I didn't ask for anything in particular to be painted on me, so whatever she was doing was going to be a surprise. I could tell by Allison's face that it looked good, or I guess that my abs looked nice.

"Finished," the girl says as she takes a step back, admiring her work. My eyes trailed up to the small mirror placed beside a chair she had to set the paint on, smiling at what she did. There were two lines of blue and green that snaked around my arms, meeting in my chest which formed another pattern that trailed along my abs and my back. There were also a couple of stray lines that were sketched across my cheekbones, giving it a better touch.

"This looks amazing," I smile as I look over at Allison, seeing that she was finished now as well. Her artist went with a more playful look. She had dozens of different colored dots that ran their way from her cheeks down her neck, ending at her collar bone. She also had eyeshadow and lipstick that glowed a bright pink, making her smile stand out even more than it already did.

Allison walks over to me, placing a kiss on my cheek, leaving a mark. "What was that for?"

"The finishing touch," she smiles at me, her teeth glowing in the blacklight.

Just like always, seeing her smile drowned out all of the sounds, all of the music, and all of the people when I saw it. Suddenly it was just her and I; two people who cared about one another more than they each would ever know. I couldn't help but fall more and more in love with her, but I wasn't complaining.

"Wanna dance?" Allison takes my hand, dragging me to the floor before I could give my answer. I couldn't help but laugh as her free hand travels down to my hip, jumping with the bass every time it pounded. I recognized the song that was playing, but never in my life have I danced to it.

"Dancing really isn't my best feature," I say, not wanting to be a buzzkill, but also not wanting to dance. "I once had to dance for a talent show at school and I got booed off the stage."

Allison stops and stares at me. "That's actually really sad."

"I mean it was horrible, so I didn't blame them," I say, shrugging.

Allison holds her gaze at me before raising an eyebrow. "Maybe you can't dance, but I know you can sing."

My heart almost stops. "I don't like where this is going."

A smile finds it's way onto her face as she grabs my wrist and tugs me through the crowd, right towards the DJ. I wanted to pull away from her and escape whatever plan she had, but I couldn't make myself do it. Something about the panic made me feel excited.

Allison lets go of my hand as she steps up onto the platform the DJ was on, leaving me down on the floor. I shake my head as the DJ stops the music, standing up in anger that she was invading his space. She doesn't pay any attention as she grabs the microphone that was sitting to the side, tapping it before speaking.

"Is this thing on? Oh, okay, good." I cringe as everyone stops dancing and looks up at her, wondering where the beat went. "So I have a friend down here that says he can't dance, but I know that he's a hell of a good singer. No, I'm not asking you to sing Corey, but I am challenging you to a lip sync battle."

The teenagers erupt into "ooh's" and other sounds of challenge as I shake my head, not being able to believe that she just did that. I mean, I've never lip sync battled in my life; how was I supposed to even know what to do or how to do it? I can't do this.

"Are you crazy?" I say, loud enough for Allison to hear. She makes a face at me before chanting into the microphone, getting the crowd to do it along with her. I couldn't help but say yes as they all shouted my name, wanting me to get up there and challenge her.

Allison holds out a hand to me as she helps me up onto the platform, making my blood run cold. Seeing all of these people from up here chanting and screaming make me nervous as hell. I didn't have anything planned, so all of this was just going to be completely random.

I think what surprised me the most was that people wanted to see it; plus the fact that the DJ was even cool with it now. "What song?"

Allison continues to speak into the microphone as she walks over to the DJ's table. "I know Corey knows this one; he sings it all of the time in the car."

I narrow my eyes as I wait for the song to come on, wondering what in the world it could be. I sing a lot in the car; there were so many possibilities. I couldn't help but smile though when I heard Take It Off by Kesha blare through the speakers, Allison tossing a microphone at me.

"You're going to make me sing Kesha in front of all of these people?" I say, staring down at the microphone in my hand.

Allison raises her eyebrows, this side of her being sexy as hell. "Lip syncing. It's different."

I swallow the lump in my throat as I gripped my microphone, trying to prepare myself on what to do. I mean, I can't dance, so that was out. I guess I'll just have to act like a complete idiot to win this. I was determined.

"I'll start," Allison smiles as she puts on a dark and daring look, marching over to me as the lyrics started. As she mouths them, she walks around me, looking as if she was toying me. I would be lying if I said it didn't turn me on.

She continues to use this effect as people in the crowd whoo her on, but I was ready to jump in. As soon as she mouths I'll regret it in the morning, but tonight, I don't give a, I don't give a, I don't give a I grab her wrist and throw it back just before it touches my chest. Her daring look gets wiped off her face as I mouth the words, darting across the stage as I made facial expressions with the words.

A couple of girls whoo me on as well as I jump down off the stage, jumping with the beat as people around me did as well. I gave it my all to keep the crowd entertained, but before I could even start the next verse of the song, Allison was back at it.

I could tell that she was going for the boys in the crowd, because as soon as she mouthed lose your clothes, in the crowd she was ripping her shirt off and throwing it at the crowd. The bright pink bra she had on glowed under the blacklight as she danced her way off the stage and into the crowd, teasing everyone she passed by.

As she did that, I hopped back onto the platform and prepared what I was going to do next. I needed something that would make people go crazy, or at least to cheer me on louder than Allison. After giving her a few lines to use, I thought of what to do next, and I stole it back.

I mouthed everybody take it off before taking a leap of faith, literally. The next thing I know, I'm jumping off of the stage towards a group of people, praying that they would catch me. I was relieved when I felt hands grab my back, legs, and arms as they carried me through the crowd, cheering and screaming at me.

I continued to mouth the words as I look all around me, smiling at what Allison got me to do. As soon as I said when they take it off, the crowd lowered me back onto my feet to where I was at the back of the loft, the whole crowd now looking right at me. As soon as I gathered myself, I finished it off and raised my microphone into the air, causing everyone to erupt into cheers.

A few guys around me patted me on the back and slapped my shoulders as they told me good job, making me laugh. Did I really just do that?

"I'll accept defeat," I hear Allison say through the microphone, causing me to look back on the platform and see her standing there with a smile on her face. "Like I said, that is your song."

I put the microphone back to my mouth, winking at her. "Maybe next time."

She laugh before jumping down from the platform, making her way through the crowd back to me. The DJ goes back to the table before putting the music back on, everyone in the crowd going back to dancing as they were before. A few people tell me good job before dispersing back to the party. I still couldn't process that I just did that.

Allison's face pops up though the crowd, finally making it back to me. "I'm going to say it first; holy shit, that was awesome."

"Cross that off my bucket list," I laugh. "I've never done anything like that before."

She takes a breath. "Me either. You did deserve that win; that crowd surfing idea was genius."

"We have got to do that again sometime," I say, shaking my head. "Only next time, let's prepare it a little better."

Allison's teeth glow from her smile. "Deal, only I'll win then."

"We'll see about that," I say before the smile fades from my face. Something was wrong. I could feel it.

I look around, my eyes searching for something. "What's wrong?"

"I got a feeling," I say, realizing how much I sounded like Lydia. Wait, Lydia. I look around for her through the crowd, not seeing her. I swore I saw her earlier. "Have you seen Lydia?"

Allison shakes her head. "No, I haven't seen her in awhile. Why?"

I stare down at my hands, furrowing my eyebrows. "I can't explain it, but something is wrong, Allison. Why am I so cold?"

Suddenly then, a quick image flashes across my eyes. It was so quick that I barely saw it, but I got the memo. It was an image of the balcony, and I knew what it had to mean. I didn't say anything to Allison as I'm running towards the balcony, knowing that I'd find Lydia there.

"Lydia!" I shout as I throw the door open, finding a figure lying there on the ground. I could tell by the strawberry blonde hair and the green shirt that it was Lydia, but something was wrong with her. Something I couldn't explain.

I run to her side, grabbing her hands to feel that they were ice cold like mine were a few seconds ago. Her eyes were distant as she shakes, but I didn't know what to do. I didn't even know what was wrong with her.

Allison was there then. She runs to my side as she feels her friend, feeling the same cold as I did. "Get her inside! Lydia, stay with me, okay? Lydia!"

Lydia doesn't say a single thing as I sweep her off of the ground, carrying her in my arms as I ran back inside. My mind works fast as I look over and see a vent, knowing that it had to be pushing out hot air. I run over to it before setting her down in front of it, rubbing her arms to get her to warm up.

"How did you know?" Allison asks me as she helps me, hoping to help her friend.

I shake my head. "I-I don't know."

Suddenly, Lydia gasps as she shivers, finally out of her lost looking state. Her fingers grab my biceps as she clings onto me, almost as if she would be lost if she didn't.

"Lydia, it's okay," Allison assures her, but Lydia was terrified. "You're okay-"

"They came out of the dark," she says, looking up at me with panic on her face. Allison looked more than confused at what Lydia said, but I knew what she was talking about. It's what Jade mentioned; it had to be.

What were they and what did they want?
