07. Hypnotic
"They came out of the dark?" Allison asks, furrowing her eyebrows as she looks up at me. I could tell that she was more than confused, but she also could tell that I knew what Lydia was talking about. "Corey, why do you have that look on your face?"
I try and think for a moment. "Jade, she...she said something came after her last night; something that came from the shadows."
Allison's eyes widen. "What does that mean?"
Lydia stays in my arms as she shakes uncontrollably, almost as if she was having a seizure. I try and hold her still and to get her warm, but it felt like whatever I did, it didn't help. "It means something is after them, and I'm not sure what."
Allison breathes for a moment, her eyes searching the floor as if it held the answer. "Okay, I'm going to try and find a blanket. I'll be right back."
I didn't like the idea of her leaving. "Allison-"
She was gone before I could get her back, so I let her go. I just prayed that whatever was doing this left her alone; but I knew she could defend herself. However, I also knew Jade could as well, and even she looked terrified just talking about them.
I look back down at Lydia, seeing now that her bottom lip was trembling. "Lydia, it's okay. You're okay now."
"I-I'm so c-cold," she stutters, her fingers clasping my arms harder than they were before. It hurt me a little, but I wasn't going to tell her to stop. I was only focused on getting her warm. We were by the heater, but it didn't seem to be doing much.
"Lydia?" I hear someone say, causing me to look up and see Aiden standing there with a pained expression on his face. His eyes connect with mine for a split second before he's running over and kneeling beside the two of us, trying to take Lydia from my arms. "What happened to her?"
"We don't know," I say, keeping her close to me and the heater. Aiden realizes that she's cold the moment he lays his finger on her, so he stops trying to take her.
He shakes his head as Lydia tries to look up at him. "This isn't working. She needs more heat-"
"I'm next to a heater, what more do you want me to do?" I say, getting a little snappy. I was trying. I was trying desperately hard to get Lydia warm, but whatever I was trying didn't seem to be working.
Aiden notices my snappy tone. "Let me see her; I'll take her somewhere-"
"Everyone, get out!" I hear another voice ring through the loft, causing everyone to stop moving and the music to stop playing. When Aiden and I looked back up to see who it was, I was alarmed to see that it was Derek standing there.
Everyone flees the loft as I start to pick people out that I knew; people like Jade, Isaac, Danny, Ethan, and Allison. They stayed put before Danny runs over to us, taking Lydia from my arms and helping her out of the loft. I only let Danny take her because I trusted her, and I sure as hell didn't trust Aiden. I wanted to follow after them to make sure she would be alright, but before I could even think about leaving, I turned back to the center of the room and saw five shadow figures standing there in the emptiness.
Allison's eyes connect with my own as she takes a step backwards, Scott and Kira suddenly appearing behind her as well. Scott stops in his place as his eyes narrow, and I knew then that something bad was about to happen. Not to mention that Kira was here to watch it all go down.
Suddenly the five figures turn and face towards Aiden and I, but I couldn't tell if they were looking at him or me. I guess my question was answered when they all took a step forwards, causing Aiden to furrow his eyebrows. "Guys, why are they all looking at me?"
The next thing I know, Scott is running forwards, red eyes glowing and fangs appearing, along with Derek, Isaac, and even Jade. I take a step backwards as I look back over at Allison, seeing that she was now standing beside Kira as she tried to keep her back. My only worry was that they would get caught in the crossfire; and I sure as hell didn't want that.
I clench my fist when I see Derek grab one of their faces and twists it's neck, causing a loud popping sound to ring in my ears. For a moment I was happy that one of them was dead, but right when I thought that, it's head snapped back into place and kicked Derek away from it.
Scott was next. Swiftly I watch as the shadow creature spins and does a similar move that reminded me of Jennifer Blake, which was throwing it's palm out and hitting Scott in the chest. He goes flying backwards then as he slams into the wall, falling to the ground in defeat. If the wolves can't beat these things, what can?
When I looked back over towards the center of the room, I saw Jade lying on the floor, holding back a sword that one of the creatures had against her. Her teeth were gritted and I could tell that she was losing strength fast, but I wasn't sure what to do. I thought about risking it and running at the creature, but that was before Isaac came out of no where and tackled the thing, only to have it disperse into shadows and reappear next to them.
Suddenly the creatures all look back over towards Aiden, surrounding him as I backed away. Two of them held his arms while one stepped in front of him, holding it's hand out and placing it behind his ear. It's yellow eyes glow, which reminded me of a firefly, before there was a singeing sound, causing it's hand to lower. The two creatures let go of Aiden as he falls to the ground, eyes dazed just like how Lydia's were.
The figures of darkness turn and look at me for a moment, and it made me worried that they were going to come after me next. I bite my lower lip as I close my eyes, wishing that none of this was happening. I wouldn't be worried about this if we knew what these things were and what they wanted, but we were in the dark.
After a couple of moments, I opened my eyes to see that four of them were now looking over at Kira. The one closest to me stares at me for a long moment, cocking it's head as if it couldn't figure something out. I swallow the lump in my throat before it turns and looks at Kira with the others, leaving me alone...for now I guess.
Scott was up on his feet by that point. Everyone doesn't know what to do other than watch as he stands between the creatures and Kira, baring his teeth as a warning. It made me wonder if he was doing that just to protect her or if something more was there, but I had a feeling it was a little bit of both.
I thought another fight was going to break out, but that was before sunlight started to shine through the windows. The creatures look out towards it as they disperse into only shadows, leaving from the light of day. We all look around at one another as Ethan runs over to his brother, but I was frozen.
Isaac helps Jade back up onto her feet. "Thanks for that."
"Yeah," Isaac nods, looking back at Scott. "Can someone explain to me what those things were?"
No one had an answer to that question. "It happened to me too."
I look over at Jade. "What?"
"They did whatever they did to Aiden to me too," Jade says, feeling behind her ear. "Isaac found me earlier in the closet with Ethan. There's a mark behind our ears too."
Ethan looks down at his brother. "There's one behind his too."
"Me too," Derek says, making my mind spin faster than what it was already. I found it odd that this happened to Lydia, Aiden, Ethan, Jade, and Derek. Furthermore, they were looking at me and then Kira as well before finally disappearing.
Allison speaks. "What's the mark?"
"A five," Isaac says, glancing over at Jade. "And I guess now they have five people."
I saw where he was going with this. "But they were going to go after Kira before the sun came up-"
I stopped then, looking over at Kira. She just witnessed this whole thing. I can't even imagine what's going through her head. Ethan looks up,"I don't care, they're not going to get to her too. No one else."
"We can't beat them," Derek says, shaking his head. "One of them pulled a sword out of it's chest."
"I'm sure my dad knows something," Allison nods, glancing back over at me. "We'll figure it out."
"Might want to do that before tonight," Isaac says, looking back out of the window. The paint on his face was smearing terribly, but I knew it was from the fight and from saving Jade. "I'm sure they'll be back again."
Everyone is silent for a moment, thinking to themselves about what just happened. I was about to go find Lydia and see if she was alright before Derek looks around at all of us, an angry look on his face.
"So, who's idea was it to have a party in my loft?"

"Stiles, slow down," I say, holding my hands up. "What do you mean your key was to the Chemistry room?"
When I came back home, Stiles was pacing back and forth in the living room, almost in tears. There was so much stress in his eyes, and when he talked, it was way too fast for me to catch on.
"I wrote that message to Barrow," he says, placing his hands on the side of his head. "I told him to kill Kira, Corey."
I shake my head. "Stiles, that doesn't make any sense."
"I have the key to the closet," he goes on, his eyes growing more and more distant the more he talked about it. "I unlocked it for Barrow to hide in, and I wrote that message on the chalk board that spelled out Kira. I did it. Me."
He really did sound insane. "Stiles, you were with me all that day."
"No I wasn't," he continues. "I had to of gotten away sometime...Corey, it was my handwriting. It was me, but God...I can't remember!"
I stand then, placing my hands on his shoulders to stop his pacing. "Stiles, listen to me, okay? Calm down. Your mind is taking this idea and running with it. There is no possible way you did that; why would you? Someone could have planted that key in your locker."
"That doesn't explain the handwriting," he says, not listening to me. "It was the exact same. Exact...same."
"Stiles, listen to yourself. You're accusing yourself of helping a murderer," I say, causing his eyes to grow more distant than what they already were. "You're accusing yourself of something that you can't even remember doing. I know you, Stiles. You wouldn't do that. So just take a breath and let the cops figure this out, okay? Stop telling yourself that it was you."
His eyes come up and meet my own again, filled with pain and confusion. "I'm losing my mind, aren't I?"
"No," I state, removing my hands. "But even if you are, I'll be right here along with you. I promise."
A faint smile finally finds it's way onto his face, giving me some sense of hope. I thought that everything was going to be alright then, but that was before Stiles says something that I knew I'd never get out of my head.
"I already feel like I'm losing myself."
