10. Ocean Eyes
"Corey, is this really necessary?" Allison asks me as I take a left turn, smiling to myself because of what I had planned. "I mean, shouldn't we be focusing on something like those demon creatures or who might be the nogitsune?"
She had a point, but so did I. "We've dedicated a lot of time into that lately...when's the last time we focused on us?"
Allison raises her eyebrows at me, giving me a playful look. "Okay, true, but-"
"No butts," I say, reminding me of my mother. She used to say that to me all the time. I missed her. "We can put the demons from Hell off for at least one night. That's all I'm asking for; one night."
She smiles at me, sitting back in her seat. "Alright, but didn't you plan the date last time? When do I get a turn?"
I raise my eyebrow. "Nuh uh, I get a redo. Last time didn't count."
"What? Why?" she says. "It was amazing last time."
I look over at her. "Yes, because you being kidnapped by Jade, a werewolf fight, me almost dying, and Derek almost dying is a great first date."
Allison nods, all of it finally coming back to her. I had almost forgotten about that in all honesty, but I guess because it felt like it happened so long ago. I would never forget Lydia saving my life though; no matter how long it was since it happened.
"At least tell me what you have planned," she begs, but I wasn't telling her. I was a man of surprises; I hated spoilers.
I shake my head. "Nope. We're almost there; you don't have to wait much longer."
She looks out the window, her eyes bright as she looked up at the stars. "You know, sometimes you really do bother me, Coral Ham."
"Alright, Miss I can protect myself," I laugh as she punches my arm, laughing with me. "What ever happened to you really are cute?"
Allison smiles, her dimple showing. "You remember that?"
"Of course I remember that," I smile, remembering her saying that the first time. It had been in the car back when I was dead...the first time I ever went to school with her.
She grins. "Well if you remember it, then you'll also remember that I told you that you were cute when you were acting dorky."
I roll my eyes slightly at her, finding all of this humorous. It amazed me that we both remembered so much; even down to the simplest conversation. "I'm dorky all the time."
"That is true," she laughs before wrapping her arm around my right bicep, leaning her head onto my shoulder. It didn't affect my driving any, and it actually made me speed up my driving a little bit. I couldn't wait to get where we were going. "But you're my dork."
Man, I could hardly fathom how much I loved her.
It wasn't until then I looked down at the clock and saw that it was almost ten at night, but that was good. It needed to be dark as possible for where we were going, and I could tell that it was going to be a good night for it. I only hoped Allison would enjoy it, but I was sure she would.
"How much longer?" she says, yawning after her sentence. I was worried that she was going to fall asleep, but it was good that we were already here.
"We're here," I say as I park the car, Allison's head raising from my shoulder to look out the window. Her eyes light up when she sees what I have set up, which happened to be just simply a blanket and a few candles right on a secluded part of the beach.
Her mouth falls open. "Corey, how-"
"Before you ask, just know that Stiles actually told me awhile back that he wanted to take Lydia here on a date if that ever happened, but I guess I beat him to it," I say, still feeling a little guilty about it. It wasn't like I was ruining it for him; I just thought it would be a cool date idea.
Allison's hands scramble to the door handle as she pushes my truck door open, hopping down before walking a few steps and stopping to take it in. I didn't blame her; the way the moon hit the ocean tonight was just perfect. It was one of those scenes you'd only see in a movie.
"A little cliche, but I love it," she smiles over at me, causing me to raise an eyebrow. She walks over then and kisses me, instantly making me forgive her for that comment. I knew she was joking around with me anyways.
She pulls away before taking my hand, the two of us walking over to the blanket before sitting down. The sand feels amazing on my feet as I lay down on my back, looking up at the stars. Allison does the same as we sit in silence, taking it all in.
"Do you really think that every star up there is a soul?" she says quietly after a minute, her eyes lost in the stars.
I stare at them, thinking about what she said. "Where'd you hear that?"
"My dad used to tell me that when I was a kid," she smiles. "I had asked what stars were, and that's what he told me. He actually told me that's where my pet goldfish had went after it died."
I laugh at her. "Do fish even have souls?"
"Doubt it," she laughs then.
I think about her comment again, deciding on an answer. "I mean, I died, but I didn't go there."
"But you were stuck in between," she says, turning her head to look at me. "Maybe you didn't make it that far yet."
"Maybe," I breathe, trying to picture all of the friends we've lost that could be up there right now, looking down on us. Allison's mother came across my mind then, and I wasn't sure why. It reminded me of something else though.
"Allison, if you were in my situation..." I fade out, not sure how to word it exactly. "What would you do about your parents?"
She turns and looks at me again, confusion in her eyes. "You feel guilty, don't you?"
"Of course I feel guilty," I state, my mind flashing back to the memory of seeing them cry in my room after I had died. "They were broken after they lost me, and I had the chance to fix that, and I never have."
Allison sits up, propping herself up on her elbow. "Corey...I don't really know what I would have done in your situation. With you becoming wrapped up in our lives here..I think you made the right choice. If Deucalion or any of those other people would have known how important your parents were to you, they would have gone after them too. You not going back could have saved their lives."
"Yeah, but even now, I haven't gone back. It's safe now for me to, isn't it?" I think for a moment, weighing the pros and cons. "But if I did, that would mean leaving everything behind here."
Allison stares at me, both of us thinking the same thing. Sure, I would miss all of the action that goes on here, but what mattered to me most was Allison. I mean, it wouldn't be like we'd never see each other again, but I loved the freedom that we had now. I liked that she was close; just in case something did happen.
"What would you even tell them?" Allison breaks the silence finally. "You can't explain that you came back from the dead so easily."
She was right. I was a decent liar when it came to that type of stuff, but something like that I doubt I could lie about. "I just don't know what to do."
Allison rests her head on my chest, her eyes looking into my own. "Don't think you're selfish or anything like that for not seeing them. It's a hard situation, and like I said, you're keeping them out of all of this. They aren't at risk like the rest of us are. Whatever you decide to do, I'll always be here."
I smile at her, breaking the mood. "What would I do without you?"
"You'd actually still be dead right now," she tells me, raising her eyebrows. I narrow my eyes then as my hands go to her armpits, tickling her as she squealed and kicked away from me. I laugh at her as I pin her down, not listening to her pleas to stop.
"C-Corey!" she screams, squeezing her eyes shut. "I-I can't breathe!"
"Shoulda thought about that before being a smartass," I joke around with her. However, she takes me off guard then as her feet come up and kick me off of her, causing my back to land back into sand. I recover quickly from the blow, but before I could get up to return the favor, she was on top of me, pressing her lips to mine.
Suddenly then I heard the ocean around us, felt the breeze on my bare arms, heard my heart racing in my chest. Feeing her lips against mine was something I'd never get used to, but in a good way. Every time she kissed me, it was like it was the first time all over again. I loved it.
I part my eyes open slowly when I feel her hands trace down my sides, tugging at my shirt. My hands work as they entangle in her windblown hair, goosebumps rising on my skin. Then all of a sudden, I was sitting up, Allison in my lap, ripping my shirt off as she helped me. I did the same to her as well as we pull away to breathe for a moment; two crazy people in love, staring at one another, waiting for the other to make the first move.
"Are you sure you're okay with this?" I ask, not being able to keep the smile off my face.
She nods her head, smiling back at me as well. "I'm more than ready."
Her lips slam into mine once again, this time more hungrily. This was a different side of Allison that I had yet to see from her, and it was a learning experience for both of us. Well, not in that way, but you know what I mean.
"I love you," Allison whispers in my ear, smiling as she kisses me.
I couldn't help but smile back. "I love you more."

I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I knew, the phone was ringing.
My eyes flutter open, looking around to find that I was still at the beach, still lying on the blanket, and still with Allison. She had fallen asleep next to me as well, her chest falling and rising slowly with the rhythm of the ocean. Suddenly, everything that had happened before came crashing back to me.
I couldn't help but smile.
I watched Allison for a moment before I turned back to my phone, grabbing it from the sand and seeing that Scott was calling me. I raise an eyebrow when I see the time, which was one in the morning, before pressing the answer button.
"Scott?" I say first, my tone groggy of course.
He talks fast. "Did Stiles call you?"
I furrow my eyebrows. "No, I don't think so, why?"
"He called me a few minutes ago," Scott continues to say, sounding frantic. It worried me. "Are you home?"
I look back down at Allison and then over at the ocean. "Uh, no."
Scott's silent for a moment before he finally breaks the ice. "Stiles is missing."
I wasn't sure if I heard him right. "Excuse me?"
"He called me saying that he's hurt," he says, and the moment he mentioned him being hurt, I was shaking Allison awake. "He tried telling me where he was, but then his phone died."
This wasn't happening. Stiles had told me he was sleepwalking...I should have known better. I should have been home. "He's been sleepwalking lately, but I-I don't know where he'd go."
"He said something about it being a basement of some sort," Scott says, fading off before saying the one thing that really gave me chills. "He was whispering over the phone because he thinks someone is down there with him."
Allison was awake by this point. She was sitting there staring at me, trying to figure out what was going on. "This is all my fault-"
"No it's not," Scott says, but whatever he'd tell me, I wouldn't believe. "Listen, we're going to find him. We're going to your house to see if we can get a scent, okay? He's going to be okay."
I gulp before hanging up the phone, not sure what to say or how to react. I needed to move; I wanted to move, but I was processing it all, thinking of where he could go, and who or what could have taken him if he wasn't sleepwalking. I knew this was my fault; I should have been there for him. But I also knew something else.
I was going to find him.
