14. Broken Pieces
Two days.
I haven't seen or heard from Stiles in two days. Everyone has been looking for him, but it's like he wasn't even in Beacon Hills anymore. I've tried calling him, texting him, hell, even face timing him, but he won't answer me. It made me wonder what he's been up to...
Allison tried stopping by the house yesterday, but I didn't answer the door. A part of me felt bad, but the other part of me didn't want to see her. Not specifically her, but I just didn't want to see anyone...
"Corey?" Allison shouts from behind the door. "Your truck is here; I know you're home."
It's silent for awhile as I creep around the corner, staring at the door. I debated in my mind whether to answer it or not, but I just couldn't. I couldn't face her and talk to her about Stiles when I didn't want to talk about it. I didn't want to even think about it. So, I keep my distance.
Finally, Allison sighs. "Corey, if you're listening, just know that I'm here for you, okay? Keeping this bottled up...it's not good for you. I would know. I just don't want to see the same thing that happened to me happen to you. We're going to fix this, Corey. We've always made a good team. Please just give me a call or anything and I'll be here...I love you."
She pauses for a minute, like she was waiting for the door to open or for me to say something back. I almost said I love you back, but then she was speaking again. "I brought you something, so I guess I'll just leave it here on the step...if you're even listening to me right now."
I hear movement outside from behind the door as I sink lower against the wall until finally my butt was touching the ground. It was then I realized that I was crying.
Allison was too. I could hear it in her voice. "Please Corey...don't shut me out. Shutting people out is the worst thing to do. I-I just-"
She cuts off then, followed by footsteps away from the door. I sit there in silence as I stare at the blank space, wondering what she could have left on the doorstep. Something inside of me broke a little more hearing her voice like that; that she sincerely cared about me that much. It made me love her all the more, but for some reason, my feet wouldn't let me get up to open the door.
After sitting for at least five minutes, I push myself up off the floor, wiping my tears away on my hoodie sleeve. I stumble to the door before opening it up, finding something I wasn't expecting lying there on the doorstep.
It was a pizza box.
I had opened up the pizza box to find 8 slices inside; it being my favorite kind. I was a little surprised to see that Allison remembered that I loved canadian bacon so much, but it meant a lot to me. Out of everything shitty that's been going on lately, for her to stop by and leave me a pizza meant the world.
And I didn't even open the door.
"Corey?" I hear someone say to me then, snapping me from my daze. I blink before I see Lydia standing in front of me, purse slung around her shoulder. I almost forgot I was even standing in the hallway at school.
I rub my eyes. "Yeah, sorry Lydia...what's up?"
She gives me a concerned look. "Are you sure you should be back in school?"
"In all honesty, I'd rather be looking for Stiles," I say as I yawn, Lydia taking note I could tell.
Lydia sighs, shaking her head slightly. "How are you holding up? I haven't talked to you in so long."
I stare at her for a moment, not sure how I wanted to play this out. I didn't know whether to lie and tell her that I was okay so she wouldn't worry, or to just tell the truth. I must have took too long thinking about my answer, because she was soon changing the topic.
"Have you talked to Allison?" she says, cocking her head to the side slightly. "I know she's worried about you, just like the rest of us."
I decided to lie about that one. "No, I haven't talked to her."
"I think she went to the hospital this morning to see how Isaac was doing," Lydia says, her eyes falling to the floor. I forgot what happened with Isaac...I was too busy worrying about Stiles. "Scott said that he wasn't healing."
Stiles did that. Stiles was the reason behind all of it. "I..."
"We're going to get Stiles back," Lydia says then, stepping forwards as her eyes lock with mine again. I knew she meant her words; not because she was talking to me, but because she was trying to reassure herself as well. "Stiles won't let this thing take him...I know that for a fact. We just need to figure out how to help before it's too late."
It was a good thing that her eyes connected with something behind me before walking off, because I had no idea what to say back to her. I wanted to tell her that she couldn't promise anything like that, but I didn't know how to say that. She tells me a quick goodbye before she's dashing off towards her mom. I could have sworn I caught a little glimpse of Peter, but I was probably wrong.
When I turn back around, I see Scott, Aiden, and Ethan down the hall, dashing towards the door that led downstairs. I narrow my eyes as I watch them, not sure why they would want to go down there. I was just going to ignore them before something tells me that I needed to follow them. I couldn't explain it; it was like one minute I didn't care but then the next I had to know.
I slam my locker shut as I jog down the hall towards where they went, making my way through the crowd. Someone bumps my shoulder, but I just ignore it. Soon enough, I'm descending down the stairs, straining my ears to hear anything. It was then I heard the roars.
When I finally stepped down onto the lower level, I turned my head to figure out what was going on. I have to blink a couple of times for my eyes to adjust to the light before I see Ethan running down the hall towards another room, Scott behind him. In front of them was Aiden; holding up Stiles by the neck.
Stiles.
"Hey!" I shout, anger rising within me. Even if that wasn't the real Stiles, he didn't have the right to do that. The next thing I know, I'm darting towards the rest of them, watching Scott as he rips Aiden away from Stiles. Stiles falls to the ground as Aiden turns and roars at Scott, but Scott had a bigger and better roar, causing Aiden and Ethan both to cower.
When I finally made it to the room, I skid to a halt when Stiles turns and looks at me. For a split second, it was like he wasn't there, but then the next, it was him. He gives me a sad yet happy look before running forwards, wrapping his arms around me. Something about it didn't feel right, but I hugged him back. It was Stiles.
"I was starting to think you fell off the face of the earth," I breathe, halfway laughing. I was just glad to see him.
"I'm okay," he assures me, squeezing tighter. "I don't remember where I've been or what I've been doing, but I'm okay. It's me. It's Stiles."
He pulls away from me then, his eyes drifting to Scott and the others. "I have to show you guys something."
"How do we know it's you?" Aiden snaps, his blue eyes fading.
Stiles looks back at me, fear in his eyes, but it was of himself. "Corey?"
"It's him," I say before thinking about my answer. "I know it is."
"He's right," Scott agrees as Ethan and Aiden look at one another, doubting us before nodding their heads. Scott turns back to Stiles. "What do you have to show us?"
Stiles sighs before walking over to a bag, opening it up to reveal a bunch of random items. "Like I said, I don't know what I've been up to the past few days, but I do have all of this stuff."
"What in the hell were you doing? Building a terminator?" Ethan remarks as he pulls out a rope and chain. Scott and Aiden start grabbing and holding out more stuff as Stiles and I watch, but I didn't know what to think about it all.
Scott holds up a map then. "Look."
He unfolds it as we all look at it, Aiden reaching forwards and pointing at the red line. "Isn't that the cross country trail?"
"And it goes right through..." Scott fades off before starting again. "There's bear traps still out there from Malia Tate's father."
Stiles looks up then, regret on his face. "Shit."

"Everyone stop!"
I slam to a halt at Stiles' words, my feet skidding in the leaves. The cross country team slows to a halt as well as Stiles stops and looks down at his feet, knowing that something was there. I can only stand there and hold my breath as I watch.
I notice Kira looking at me in the crowd; but I couldn't figure out why. Something in her eyes told me that she was hiding something that she didn't want us to know, but I couldn't imagine what. I hear a chain jingle then, causing me to look down and see that Stiles was holding up one.
There are multiple gasps that come from the crowd at that point. I just stand there holding my breath; knowing that it had to be a steel trap. The fact that Stiles knew it was right there baffled me; at least, that was until he pulled it all of the way up to only find more chain, no trap.
"Congratulations Stilinski, you found a length of chain," Coach applauds, making me grow angry. There could have been a trap on the end of the chain, and if Stiles wouldn't have been here to stop it...well, I guess he wouldn't have been the one to start it either. "Somebody now please tell me what the hell is going on."
Just as soon as he says that, he takes a step forwards and everything happens so fast. Suddenly, Scott is screaming at coach, and then the next thing I know, there's an arrow flying straight into Coach's abdomen. I hear him say "crap" before falling to the ground, but it only sends memories shooting through my head.
"Allison!" I scream as I run to her, watching the Oni pull out it's sword. Blood was already staining her shirt a dark crimson; a color that always looked awful on her.
Just before her legs give out on her, I'm there catching her before she hits the ground. She starts taking sharp breaths then as tears fall down my face, not accepting this at all. She wasn't going to die. She couldn't die.
"I-It's okay," she breathes, her eyes wide as she manages to crack a smile. "I'm in the arms-"
"Corey!" someone yells at me again, breaking me from my thoughts. I blink before I'm back standing in the woods, staring down at Coach as everyone surrounds him. I realized then that it was Scott that yelled my name. "Call 911!"
Coach was screaming hysterically. "Get it out of me! Oh my God, I'm going to die! Get it out of me!"
"Coach, you're not going to die!" Stiles shouts back as he tries to stop the bleeding, the rest of the team watching with wide eyes. Aiden gets them to back away, but Coach continues to scream.
"An ambulance is coming, okay?" Aiden tells Coach before his eyes shut, but he wasn't dead. I could tell that he just passed out.
Scott reaches out and takes his hand; taking away Coach's pain. I didn't know what to do as I stood there watching; feeling utterly useless. It was then I remembered to call 911, but then I heard sirens off in the distance. Someone else already beat me to it.
"I think he just passed out," Aiden confirms as Stiles takes his hands off of Coach; blood covering them.
"I-I could have killed him," he shakes his head. "If it was his head or his throat-"
"But it wasn't," Scott says, trying to reassure him. "He's going to be alright."
Stiles looks up then, hearing the sirens. Aiden hears it too. "I hear the ambulance coming."
And then, for a split second, Stiles doesn't look like the real Stiles. "And my Dad." But then it was him again.
I was starting to wonder what was real and what wasn't.
