15. Fragments
"Allison, pick up the damn phone," I breathe as I press my cell phone to my ear, staring at a bright yellow bus, gathered in a group of people. Supposedly Stiles had made a bomb and it was now sitting on the bus, waiting for Officer Parrish to examine it. I just wanted to call Allison and fill her in.
I tap my foot as I watch Parrish walk onto the bus slowly, saying something, but I couldn't make out what. John stands farther out in front of the crowd as he watches closely, saying every now and again that we all needed to keep back. Stiles was at my left side while Scott was on my right, both of them biting their nails. Kira had ran off to find her parents, and I had no idea what had happened to the twins.
"Anything?" Stiles says to me, his eyes flicking up to my phone. I shake my head as it rings one last time, going dead after. This was the third time now that I've tried calling her, getting nothing. I was worried as hell for her, but I knew she had to be okay. She must be with Lydia.
I shove my phone back into my pocket, making sure to turn the ringer up in case she called back. "Nothing."
Scott glances over at me, his eyes flicking down to my pocket where my phone was. "She didn't answer?"
"She must be with Lydia," I say, watching Parrish stand back up inside of the bus. "I haven't heard from her either."
"Anything from Jade?" Scott says, causing me to shoot him a weird glance. For some reason, everything that Scott was saying triggered something in my mind that made me think he was trying to get under my skin. I knew he wasn't, but I knew he still liked Allison, and he's thrown the idea of Jade and I being together in my face before; granted it was when we both were high on wolfsbane at that Motel, but still. It bothered me.
I grit my teeth. "I haven't talked to her for the past week, if that. She's been doing her own thing lately."
"I had seen her at the hospital with Isaac," Scott mentions, something I had yet to hear about. "I just thought maybe you knew."
Why in the hell was Jade at the hospital for Isaac? It was weird of her to me. I don't think much of it though as I look back up, seeing Parrish walking back towards the front of the bus with something in his hand. It must not have been a bomb.
"Sir, it's not a bomb, but there was something else in the box," I hear Parrish say through John's walkie talkie, holding something up in the glass windshield on the bus. I have to squint to see what it was, but the moment my eyes read the words Stilinski and Stiles' hand barely brushed across my arm, everything around me began to change.
Suddenly, I was standing in the police department, watching everyone around me flee left and right for a reason unknown to me. Everything seems so distant and far off from me, not the same way it had always felt when I got a vision. I assumed that this was from the past, but the more I looked around, I realized that it was from the future. It had to be, but how?
I turn in a circle as I take it all in, trying to figure out what was happening. It wasn't until I faced John's office when I saw a box sitting there on the desk, almost as if it was telling me that it meant something. The gears in my mind start to spin like clockwork then; and suddenly, I realized that the bomb wasn't on the bus, it was here, at the police department. I had no clue how I came to that conclusion, but it was like something was telling me...warning me.
"Corey!" I hear Scott yell then, everything around me changing back to the present. I gasp as I look around me, trying to comprehend what had just happened. Stiles just stares at me with confusion, almost as if he didn't know what had just happened. It confused me. "What just happened?"
"The bomb," I breathe, shaking my head. "The bomb isn't here, it's at the police department."
Stiles narrows his eyes at me, like it wasn't really him. I barely notice this before Scott was shouting at John, telling him what I just said. Suddenly, everyone was sent into a panic as they ran to their cars, wanting to get to the police department for their loved ones, for their men, for their officers.
"Stiles," I say, a couple of kids bumping shoulders with me. He snaps back then as he cocks his head slightly, something that Stiles always did. It was such a common gesture of his that I didn't think twice.
Scott grabs my arm then. "Come on!"

"Chris!" I shout as I run into the police department, stopping dead in my tracks when I noticed all of the other bodies lying around. There were at least four officers down with debris piled up on them or around them, crushing me more the longer I looked at them. Tears start to form in my eyes then as I look back at Chris, seeing Derek there as well.
"You saved my life," Chris says to Derek, and that was when I noticed that Derek had multiple glass fragments in his back. I cringe slightly from the sight, only being able to imagine how much pain he must be in. As much as I disliked Derek for what he's done to Allison, he clearly saved her father tonight, and that made up for most of it in my mind.
Chris turns to me then, taking a second to find the right words. "C-Corey, where's Allison?"
I shake my head. "She won't answer my calls."
He had a slight panicked look on his face, but just like me, he knew that she would be okay. She could protect herself, and as long as she was far away from here, it was safer. "What are you doing here?"
"We were at the school when we figured out about the bomb," I say, looking around and noticing Stiles and Scott on the ground next to an officer, Scott's hand in his. I knew he was taking away his pain. "What are you doing here?"
"Stiles f-framed us," Derek gasps, his eyelids heavy. I could really tell he was in a lot of pain. "Silver finger...he's dead."
I wanted to ask what that was about, but before I could, I feel someone tugging me by my arm out of the room, causing me to look back and see John. He quickly does this before stopping, looking me in the eyes. He looked terrified. "Get out of here, okay? Watch Stiles."
I nod stiffly before I hear Scott behind me, his hands shaking as he stared at them. "H-he just died...I just felt him die-"
My eyes catch the door open to my left then, hearing a small petite voice speak out. "Scott—we have to get Stiles out of here! The Oni...they're coming for him."
I snap back into panic mode as I turn and see Kira standing there, her eyes wide with fear and confusion. Stiles doesn't hesitate before he's rushing us out towards the door, telling us to hurry up. Scott and the rest of us follow close behind before running through the parking lot, avoiding ambulances and other police cars before all of us hop up into the Jeep.
"Where are we supposed to go?" I ask as Stiles starts the Jeep, it moaning barely back to life.
Scott's voice was wavering. "The animal clinic; it has the mountain ash barrier."
"But won't they just get through?" Kira asks, proving a good point.
"They might, but at least it will buy us some time." Scott was right; it wasn't the best idea that we had, but it was the only one. Better than nothing.
Stiles presses harder on the gas pedal as he races down the road, darkness already starting to take over as rain dances across the windshield. My heart races in my ears as I stare straight ahead, wishing that I could take a step back and actually breathe for a moment. All of this was happening too fast and I wasn't sure how to take it. I wasn't even sure if I would be able to take much more of it.
It doesn't take much longer before we're at the animal clinic, all of us scrambling out of the Jeep and dashing up to the back doors. Stiles grabs the handles to find that it's locked before I hear a familiar sizzling sound behind us, making my blood run cold.
I turn around and see five of the shadow figures forming, swords in their hands. Scott tosses Stiles the keys before shouting. "Get inside!"
Stiles scrambles to do so as Scott transforms, roaring and chilling me to the core. The Oni run at him then, swords and claws flying. I see Stiles run inside, leaving the door open as he shouts for Kira and I to follow, but I was frozen still. I didn't want to see Scott fight this battle alone; it wasn't fair. Kira had the same idea, because soon after, she's grabbing kennels and chucking them at the Oni whenever they got close.
Suddenly, I remember that I wasn't completely useless anymore. Allison taught me some things about fighting back, and now, I actually could. It wouldn't do much use up against these creatures with swords, but that's why when I saw a wrench lying on top of some of the kennels, I knew I could use that at least to some of my advantage.
Kira screams as she throws another dog kennel, Scott roaring as well as one of the swords slices across his thigh. I must have been too busy paying attention to that, because when one of the Oni came after me, I barely noticed it. I don't have much time to react before I'm throwing the wrench at it, it hitting it square in the face. It stumbles backwards before falling back onto it's butt, surprising me that it even did that much damage.
When I look back over at Kira, I see her now holding a katana. I widen my eyes as she starts knocking down the Oni left and right, Scott stopping to watch as well. Only, it was then when he lost focus and one of the Oni took advantage of that. I'm frozen as I watch one of the swords go piercing into Scott's abdomen, reminding me of that vision of Allison.
It takes my breath away. In my head, it wasn't Scott that it had just happened to, it was Allison. I saw her standing there in my mind, eyes wide as life fled from her. Suddenly, Stiles was grabbing my arm and dragging me into the clinic, Kira and Scott right behind me. I couldn't focus. My mind was somewhere else.
"...agh!" I hear Scott yell, his voice echoing in my mind. He backs up against the table as Kira places her hands on the sword, almost as if she was asking permission to pull it out. Scott says nothing as she goes to tug it out, but before she can, the next thing I know, Stiles is grabbing her wrist and twisting it, turning and slamming her head down onto the table, her body going limp as it topples to the floor.
My eyes slowly trail back up to Stiles, no longer looking like the one I once knew. Scott is silent as he stares down at Kira, his eyes wide with panic. Of course he couldn't do anything; there was a sword sticking through him. So that's why Stiles turned and looked at me, cocking his head, looking so much like the normal Stiles.
"No," I breathe, backing away slowly. His eyes were staring into mine, a darkness behind them that terrified me. It was like the real Stiles was screaming behind them to be free, but his voice wasn't being heard. Instead, this thing replaced him. "Please, no-"
He grabs my throat then as he throws me up against the wall, barely allowing me to breathe. I gasp like a fish out of water as he continues to stare me up and down, almost as if he was analyzing me for some reason; like he was studying me. It scared me even more.
"What are you?" he raises an eyebrow, his mouth forming into a tight line. "I saw that little stunt you pulled earlier; you knew where the bomb was. How?"
Scott screams from behind him, trying to pull the sword out on his own, but unable to do so. "Leave him alone!"
"Answer me!" he screams in my face, spit landing on me. I flinch from the sound, but I had already made up my mind on what I was going to answer. No way was I going to tell him what I was; just like Deucalion, I figured that the nogitsune would want a seer on his side as well. That's why he couldn't know. "What are you!"
"I-I'm a hunter," I breathe, my hands wrapping around his wrists to try and pull him away from me, like it would do anything. "A-Ask him. Earlier today I just remembered John getting mail—that's all. Anyone c-could have figured that one out."
He narrows his eyes, and I could tell that he didn't believe me one bit, but for some reason, he acted like he did. He doesn't remove his hand from my neck however, but instead, he stares me up and down one last time, speechless.
"Let him go," I beg, tears falling down my cheeks. Never in my life would I think I'd see something like this; to see someone like Stiles become this. "Please, I swear to God, let him go!"
"He's already gone," he simply says, chilling me to the core. My face wrinkles up then, the tears really starting to come. I wouldn't take that for an answer, and he knew that. "But I'll make you a deal."
I gulp, the saliva getting stuck in my throat. Scott shakes his head, shouting at me. "Don't listen to him Corey-"
"If you want your precious Stiles back, then you'll have to do something for me," he says, a sinister smile dancing across his lips. I wait for him to continue, but instead of speaking the words, I start to hear something in my head...almost mesmerizing as if I didn't even have a choice.
Inflict more pain. Strife. Suffering.
I stare past Stiles then at Scott, who was still watching with close eyes and a rising heart rate. I knew that he meant towards Scott, and what other choice did I have? This was for Stiles...this was to get hime back. Anything was worth it.
I had to.
I open my mouth to agree to his terms, but just when I did, my phone rings in my pocket. Allison's name dances across my brain, almost as if it was the cure that I had needed. Whatever Stiles almost made me do, it was like hearing that phone ring and knowing that it was Allison cured me from it.
I grit my teeth. "No."
He erupts into laughter. A cold, dark, never-ending laugh. "Ah well, it was worth a try."
I furrow my eyebrows before I feel his grip tighten around my neck, but it wasn't like he was trying to strangle me. It was like he was trying to take something from me...and I wasn't sure what. I gasp for air as I claw at his hands to let me go, but of course it didn't do anything.
Stiles' eyes roll back into his head as his veins turn black, and that was when I realized that he was taking my pain. Everything that I had felt in the past few hours floods from my body and into him, it all happening too fast. For a moment everything for me goes dark, but then a few seconds later, I'm back and angrier than ever.
He laughs again, this time, looking satisfied. "You people will never learn not to trust a fox. Ha! Because they're tricksters...we'll get you. We'll fool all of you."
"Not everyone," I hear Deaton say then, and the next thing I know, he's injecting something into Stiles' neck, causing him to drop to the floor motionless. I gasp as the air is returned to my lungs, my feet also being returned back down to the floor.
After I recover for a moment, I look back up at Deaton, panic and despair written on my face. "W-What was that?"
"The fox is poisoned, but it's not dead," he simply answers, looking over at Scott before walking over, placing his hands on the end of the sword. "At least, not yet."
As he yanks the sword out, I couldn't help but stare at Stiles' closed eyelids, no longer looking like the same person I knew and cared about. I slowly drop myself to the floor, my back pressed up against the wall as I stared at him, feeling it all crash back into me.
My phone rings again as I let it.

ACK IM SO EMOTIONAL! But whoo go me for writing 2,908 words this chapter! Didn't think I'd even get close to that wowza!
Some of this was kinda rushed, I'm really sorry about that. I really wanted to get this out tonight because it's been too long since I've updated, but hopefully the next few chapters will be more thought out and start to put certain things into place. I've been hinting at a few thins lately, idk if you've noticed, but you might soon (:
Vote and comment of course! It really means a lot to me!
