03. One Hell Of An Actress
THREE ONE HELL OF AN ACTRESS

Spreading a rumor around their high school was easy. It was as meticulously planned as anything Fawn ever did when she wanted to fuck someone over. She started by planting Sylvia and her in the most popular girls' bathroom since it was the ideal location between the where most of the eleventh grade teachers had their classrooms. Then, Fawn frames herself as heartbroken. She always was one hell of an actress.
"It's just so shitty, I can't believe she keeps leaving me for him," Fawn whined, pressing the school's brown paper towel against the area under her nose every now and then to provide the illusion that she was crying. "I mean, what am I doing wrong?"
"I know, honey, she doesn't deserve you," Sylvia pats her on the shoulder, glaring daggers at the freshman standing in front of the mirrors, staring at them. Then, with their luck, Lexi Howard steps into the bathroom. Fawn does her best to hide her smile as she sniffles and wipes the tears she's forced down her cheeks.
"Fawn? What happened are you okay?" Lexi asked, too caring and concerned for her own good. Fawn almost felt bad for using her to spread this rumor, but a pawn was a pawn and Fawn was one hell of a player. Maddy didn't stand a chance.
Fawn faked a little more dramatic crying before saying, "This girl I was seeing left me and took her ex-boyfriend back. I just saw them together and I couldn't... I couldn't take it."
"Who?" Lexi asked, falling right into the trap.
"We shouldn't say," Sylvia added with false concern laced around her features. Fawn was vaguely aware of the other girls in the bathroom hanging onto every word of the conversation -- paying more attention to this drama than they would any of their lessons. Fawn had some of her own lessons for them to learn. Number One: Don't fuck with a girl who has been dealt the shittiest hand in the book.
Lexi shook her head, "It's okay, you know I won't tell anyone."
Fawn knew this, Sylvia knew this. They also both knew that every other girl in this bathroom absolutely would. That was all they needed.
The golden-skinned girl hesitated, wiping her eyes one more time before giving a look of consideration as if this was something she was struggling with. She wasn't, not even close. After a golden moment of hesitation, she faked caving, "Fine, fine. Maddy. It was Maddy. We were... seeing each other... on the downlow since I got back and then at the party she went and she fucked that other guy and now's back with Nate! Isn't that so fucked up? I just got totally left in the dust like that."
"So fucked up," Sylvia backed her up from beside her, shaking her head disapprovingly. Out of the corner of her eye, Fawn watched the other girls in their bathroom whisper to each other before exiting. Everything was going exactly according to plan. Fawn felt sort of bad using Lexi like this, but it was all for the greater good.
"That is messed up," Lexi muttered, "I'm sorry, Fawn. Can I give you a hug?"
Fawn tearfully nodded and accepted the hug, letting her head rest on the girl's shoulder as she held back her smile. When the girl let go of her, she offered Fawn a soft smile which the girl returned as she wiped her eyes.
"Thanks for that," Fawn nodded, letting a small chuckle fall past her lips but doing her best to make it seem choked up, "We should probably be getting to class, now, huh? What a great first day."
Lexi laughed nervously, saying, "Yeah, definitely. I hope things get better, Fawn."
She nodded and muttered a thanks before the dark-haired girl left the bathroom, leaving just the two of them. As soon as they were alone, the two girls burst into a fit of giggles, tired of trying to contain it.
"Oh, my God, that was perfect!" Sylvia exclaimed as she slung her arm around Fawn's shoulders, pulling the two of them in front of the mirror, "How did you get so good at fake crying?"
Fawn laughed and wiped her eyes and let herself stop crying as she laughed, "I don't even know, I just channeled sadness and bam, tears. Maybe I should go back to therapy."
"Eh, they'll check up on us soon enough," Sylvia shrugged, referencing the random therapist visits they were subject to within six months of being discharged. It was kind of bullshit, but it wasn't like Fawn was going to talk to her parents about things so maybe a therapist would be good. She observed herself in the mirror carefully from her tight curls, tear-stained cheeks, to the white tennis skirt and cropped tank top outfit she had on. Her hand went to grasp the gold chain around her neck, it's single, small butterfly pendant was faded with how much she twisted it between her fingers. It was the last gift her middle school best friend had given her for her birthday. A week later she outed her to everyone in school. Fawn liked to keep it as a reminder that she couldn't trust anyone. Even the girl standing next to her right now.
"Quit thinking so hard, it was a success," the blonde teased, poking the girl gently in the side where her bare skin was exposed. "Sheesh, you look like you just killed somebody. Are you okay?"
Fawn nodded, letting her hand drop to her side, "Yeah, yeah, I'm chill. I hope this works, that bitch deserves it."
Apparently it had worked and it worked fast because as soon as they stepped out of the bathroom, Fawn saw Maddy pacing towards her with her friends by her side. Before Fawn could even catch her breath, the shorter girl shoved her back.
"You bitch," Maddy exclaimed, "Why the fuck would you go around lying telling everyone we slept together?"
"Wow, news travels fast!" Fawn spoke sarcastically, "Maybe it's because I was sick of lying about it every time I watched you go crawling back to your psycho boyfriend."
"Nate isn't psycho! He actually loves me, that's more than you can say. You wouldn't know love if it bit you in the ass," Maddy shot back, trying her best to get in Fawn's face, but her height added with the platform Converse she was wearing meant Maddy didn't stand a chance. "Stop spouting bullshit, I don't like girls and even if I did, I'd have higher standards than you."
Fawn laughed maniacally, stepping forward so she towered over Maddy, whispering so only she could hear, "I don't think you know Nate as well as you think you do, Mads, but then again, I don't think you'd care even if you did because you crave attention and he gives you all the attention in the world, doesn't he? You know he was the one who filmed it, right? Have you seen the video? I have."
"What are you talking about?" Maddy's expression faltered, "Nate wouldn't."
"He would and he did," Fawn confirmed, stepping forward as Maddy backed up. "Ask him about it. Better yet, you can probably still find it on the Hub. Mixed Slut Gets Rawdogged By Three White Boys. Lemme see if I can quote it, oh yeah, "Hey, Jacobs, come get this angle over here." Ask him. I fucking dare you."
"You're fucking psychotic," the shorter girl spouted shoving her before backing up to meet the ranks of her friends, before she walked away, she exclaimed, "And stay the fuck away from me."
Fawn just laughed and flipped her off as she walked away. As she went back to meet where Sylvia had been standing and watching, the girl looked at her wildly.
"Dude, are you okay? What did you say to her?"
Fawn just brushed her off, "Don't worry about it."
writing the last part made me like sick to my stomach if I'm being honest so i put a trigger warning just in case! If you skipped the chapter because of the trigger here's a summary: Fawn and Sylvia spread the rumor that her and Maddy slept together and Maddy left her for Nate and Maddy found out leading to Fawn and Maddy getting into a fight!
