Dewin wondered if he had just killed the vicious creature that his books believed resided at the end of the maze. And as he kept on walking and walking without running into any more enemies - the aqueduct morphing into a dark and crude tunnel system - the belief grew.
But how he was wrong.
The sound of a piano hit him first, its elegance adding to his confidence. Then, a radiant warmth washed over him.
Soon, Dewin was standing in an earthly hollow with long thick roots crawling along the walls. A pit roaring with fire lit up the surroundings.
Dewin's eyes went straight for the piano at the far end. It was being played by someone, their face hidden underneath a red hooded cloak.
Dewin cleared his throat and the music stopped. 'Excuse me? Can you tell me where I am?'
The hooded creature stood up and turned to Dewin. 'You, wizard, are in my lair.' The creature then took off its red cloak.
A beast with the horned head of a bull and the body of man now stood before Dewin.
'Well, I apologize for that,' said Dewin, a bit taken back at what he was seeing. 'I'll be going then.'
The creature growled before saying, 'I don't think so.'
'I thought you might say that,' said Dewin.
Defeat the beast.
