▪︎ 13 ▪︎ Beauty

Wow, it's been so long since I updated this book. I am so grateful for all the comments I received during the time I wasn't that active. I am still appalled by how much attention this book received even though I barely updated it.

I have a new schedule again. I decided to only prioritize Discovering Yourself first and once I get used to it, I will be adjusting my schedule. So for now, the only days I will upload in Wattpad are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The rest of the days are off days and I will only be focusing on Discovering Yourself.

Also, in my community, CLNighters. We are still hiring new staff. Especially video editors, awards host, and social media managers. So if you want to be a part of the staff, you are free to do so. You must have a discord though, we don't just accept people, you must be good at what you do. Please check it out if you have the time.

If you also want to have a bit of an influence on the sequence of chapters, just comment on the future message board announcements I will have. I will now always put what kind of announcement it is before posting. So look out for "Discovering Yourself Announcement" in my message board for the future.

Beauty is a very controversial topic. People have different opinions of this subject. It's normal to want to feel pretty, to look good in front of mirrors, to be able to attract the people around you.

However, beauty is more than the exterior, it's also have to do with your inner beauty and the way you express yourself. So, comment down below your thoughts on beauty and what you think about beauty standards.

▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎

1 ▪︎ How do you define beauty, using your own words?

For me, I think beauty is a really subjective concept. There is no such thing as true beauty but I do define beauty as what people percieve as pleasing to the eyes.

2 ▪︎ Who is the most attractive in your family?

I do have to say that my mom was a beauty in her younger days. Both of my parents were actually good looking. Too bad that some of the genes didn't pass on well. Lol.

3 ▪︎ How important is beauty in your daily life?

I won't lie when I say that I am actually really self conscious with how I look. Although beauty isn't the most important thing in my life, I do care about my looks everyday but not enough to completely change or enhance my face.

4 ▪︎ What personality trait is the most important for inner beauty?

I do think being open minded is a really good trait to have to enhance your inner beauty.

5 ▪︎ Would you ever date someone who was not conventionally attractive?

Yes, although I don't have any dating experience, I have crushed on guys who aren't conventionally attractive mainly because of their personality or how they treat their friends.

6 ▪︎ What makes one person more attractive than another?

I don't really like to compare beauty but I do notice that the perfect attractiveness is someone who is charismatic and confident with how they look. They always seem to be the ones who look more attractive.

7 ▪︎ What makes someone beautiful in your country? What differs between that idea and the American idea of beauty?

I do think that in my country, people with lighter/a bit more of a tan complexion, straight hair, tall, slim girls are consideres very attractive. For guys, they usually consider the attractive ones to be pale/tan, have short hair, barely any stubble, muscular, and tall.

I don't really know the difference with the american idea of beauty because it's the same standards I think. The people from my country really praise foreign beauty. If you are a foreigner here, expect to be stared at a lot.

8 ▪︎ Do you think people from different countries than you see attractive the same way?

Yes, because people are different and not every person is born the same. The idea of beauty can also change depending on the lifestyle you live and the people you meet.

9 ▪︎ What are some advantages of being beautiful?

I do think that people who are naturally very attractive get praised a lot for their features. If they have a nice personality, it's a bonus. They will also most likely be chosen for pageants, it probably won't be very hard for them to find a possible partner and less chances of bullying. Again, this is just my opinion with the "attractive" person having a nice personality in mind.

10 ▪︎ What are some of the drawbacks of being beautiful?

Sometimes, they get unwanted attention and fame just for looking attractive. They will also be criticized a lot and people will assume most of their success is due to how they look. People just like to hate on attractive people sometimes because they think it's unfair that they were born differently. Again, this is mainly based on my observations.

11 ▪︎ What do you think of celebrities who get plastic surgery? Do you think it's necessary to have plastic surgery if you are famous in order to be successful?

I do think celebrities get so much hate for most of the things they do regardless if it's good or not. As for me, I do not care at all if they get plastic surgery but they must at least disclose to the public that they did have surgery done because people idolize celebrities and they would want to look like you.

Honestly, I won't lie when I say the entertainment industry is really reliant with beauty. If you have talent, it's already good but if you are attractive, they will love you. But there are people who aren't conventionally attractive that became really successful so I don't think being pretty is immediate fame and success.

12 ▪︎ What is the best color of lipstick for your lips?

I don't put on lipstick that much, but when I do, I always use a lighter pink or a dark red. I don't really like lipstick that much so you would rarely see me with it.

13 ▪︎ What are some brands of makeup that you use?

Honestly, I don't buy a lot of makeup. I mostly borrow some cosmetics from my mom because I don't like wearing it too much. Also, I'm not the type to care about brands so I can't actually name any, because I am too lazy to check and I forgot the names.

14 ▪︎ Do you often change the colors of your eye shadow or lipstick to match your clothes?

Like I said, I rarely wear makeup so I usually just use the same kind of makeup look regardless of what I am wearing. I don't put that much anyways. Just a bit of concealer, lipgloss, blush and mascara.

15 ▪︎ What are some ways that you use to prevent wrinkles?

I don't know any and I never really practiced them. I just know that I shouldn't furrow my eyebrows too much.

16 ▪︎ Where do you usually buy your make up? Do you ever buy make up online?

I don't buy my own makeup, I just get whatever is available from my mom.

17 ▪︎ Do you sometimes wear colored contact lenses? What do you think of people who wear them? Would you consider wearing them?

I never worn contact lenses. I do have some friends who do and they usually buy ones with different eye colors and they just look pretty sometimes. I do want to try them, just to see how I would look in them.

18 ▪︎ What kinds of soaps do you use for your hands, for your face, in the shower?

I use different kinds of soaps for all 3 categories. For my hands, it's mostly just the usual handwash that we judt randomly find or are freely given. The brand is Savers Select. For my face, I use Pond's facial foam and for the shower, I use Betadine natural defense body wash.

▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎

1 ▪︎ Who would you say is beautiful that others maybe wouldn't?

Huh, I actually never thought of that before so I don't really know the answer to this question. I would have said Donald Trump but he will never be beautiful in my eyes.

2 ▪︎ How popular is plastic surgery in your country?

It's not that popular actually mainly because people like to take pride of natural beauty than fake beauty. We also don't trust most of the plastic surgery services in our country.

3 ▪︎ What is the most popular feature for cosmetic alteration?

Hmm, if I have to think about it, I think it's noses? I'm not sure, but nose jobs are just usually popularized in pop culture and movies.

4 ▪︎ Have you ever noticed anyone ever feeling pressured to be more beautiful?

Of course. My sister and I struggle with this everyday because of how much my relatives from my father side like to pick on how "chubby" we become. My parents also are like that to us as well so it's always such a pressure because we sometimes get compared to our more attractive cousins.

5 ▪︎ What do you think of the proverb, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder?"

I always say this proverb whenever someone rants about how "ugly" they look. There is no such thing as true beauty and people will always have different opinions of beauty. It is up to you if you want to change/disprove that ideal or not.

6 ▪︎ What are some beauty tips that you could share?

I do think getting enough sleep is good for you. I know how people like to glorify not getting enough sleep but it does wonders to your beauty and your health. Drinking plenty of water is also good, don't neglect drinking a glass of water when you feel just even a little bit thirsty.

7 ▪︎ Would you ever get a tattoo/piercing or do you have a tattoo/piercing? Do you think people with many tattoos/piercings can be beautiful? How many tattoos/piercings are too many?

I don't have neither a tattoo nor a piercing but I do want to get a tattoo someday. Also, tattoo and piercings are just a nice way of expressing art on human skin and I think it's beautiful whenever I look at them. I don't think one should be limited with how many they can have, as long as it's healthy and not super damaging to your skin, I say, go for it, have as many as you want.

8 ▪︎ Is there someone famous that is considered beautiful, that you think is not?

Hmm, I don't think I ever thought of a celebrity who is considered beautiful to be not attractive.

9 ▪︎ Are beauty pageants good or bad? Why?

I honestly was never a fan of pageants. Sometimes they are interesting to watch, but sometimes the idea that you will be judged by people on your looks, talent and speaking abilities is just weird to me. Like I said before, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so it's really easy to be bribed with and manipulate results.

10 ▪︎ Should children be entering beauty pageants?

I don't think they should honestly. They are still young so their bodies are still being developed. They are also mostly forced by their parents mostly for money and bragging rights. It's never really for the intentions of the child. Unless the children themselves volunteered and if it's mostly for fun, I think it's fine in that case.

11 ▪︎ Would you want your children to be beautiful or talented?

I do want them to be both. But if I have to choose, it would be beautiful. Not because I am vain or anything, but most talents are just hard earned skill. Through habits and practice, a child can be talented in their own way. Being beautiful sometimes gives my children self confidence and I really do want my children to be confident in themselves.

12 ▪︎ How many different adjectives can you think of to describe a beautiful woman or a handsome man.

I can only think of pretty, beautiful, handsome, gorgeous, stunning, and attractive.

13 ▪︎ Would you ever consider getting your make up or eyebrows tattooed on you?

No. As much as I love tattoos, I don't want fake makeup and eyebrows to be tattooed to my face.

14 ▪︎ Have you ever had freckles, or dots, removed?

No. I don't have freckles but I do have pimple and moles. I don't like to remove moles but as for pimples, I do want to have them removed.

15 ▪︎ Do you always wear sunscreen when you go out to do your daily activities?

I sometimes forget to put it on but then again I rarely go out nowadays and when I used to, I would usually go out when the sunlight isn't too strong.

16 ▪︎ Do you ever go out in public without any make up on?

Yes I have. Many times actually. I just sometimes don't care and I don't normally put a lot in my face so the difference between my bare face and my usual make up look isn't drastic.

17 ▪︎ Can you explain your techniques for applying your make up?

I don't have any. But if any of you are out there, please comment your know hows, I do want to get better with makeup eventually.

18 ▪︎ Can you easily distinguish the differences between a cheap brand of make up and an expensive brand? How?

Eh, not really. Most times, I don't care. But I can tell if makeup is a bit on the cheaper side through packaging and sometimes the quality of the product.

19 ▪︎ How old were you when you first started to wear make up?

Well, the first time I applied make up, I was really young and that was because I used to do ballet and piano recitals so my parents had to put makeup on me to look presentable. But the first time I started to put makeup on myself was in 9th grade, because that was when I got really self conscious with how I looked.

20 ▪︎ How long does it take you to apply your make up?

Not that long. I usually take at most 5 minutes to put on makeup. Again, I don't put that much.

21 ▪︎ What types of lotions do you use? How many different kinds do you have?

The lotions I have are mostly whitening, smoothening and fragrant lotions. So about 3 kinds all in all.

22 ▪︎ Do you ever use a facial mask to improve your skin?

I have. I don't use it that much nowadays but I might use it more again.

23 ▪︎ How often do you go to the public bath?

I've never been in one. I've tried going to a hot spring but that's about it.

24 ▪︎ How often do you exfoliate your skin?

I don't do it that much actually. But maybe I should get into it.

▪︎ ▪︎ ▪︎

1 ▪︎ Does beauty affect one's success in life?

It sometimes does. As much as I don't want to admit it, there are people who became successful just because they look attractive. However, success can still be obtained through other means and beauty is not an imoportant feature.

2 ▪︎ Is beauty related to power? Can you think of anyone who is in a position of power that is not physically attractive?

No, beauty is not always equal to power but it's possible that someone beautiful can be in power. I mean, Donald Trump is in a position of power but I never found him attractive in any way.

4 ▪︎ Do people spend too much time and money on beauty?

I don't want to assume, but I do think people sometimes prioritize on how good they look instead of how improved their life will be. They sometimes spend money on cosmetics, products, enhancements, pills and many more but it's honestly up to them if that is how they want to spend their money on.

5 ▪︎ How much time should be spent on making yourself look better each day?

I do think that having proper hygiene and grooming is important. A little bit of exercise should also be prioritized a little bit. Maybe 30 minutes or an 1 hour is good enough daily if you are not the type to really groom or exercise.

6 ▪︎ Do you think people should have cosmetic surgery to enhance their looks? If so what is the minimum age when someone should have plastic surgery?

It's honestly their choice but I prefer not to do it. The minimum age should definitely be 20 because then your features are more developed.

7 ▪︎ Do you think beauty affects self-esteem?

Yes, that is what my situation is right now. I am not really confident with myself partly because of how I think I look. I have been complimented before but most of them are just compliments for the sake of compliments. I do appreciate every compliment I get, but I am still self conscious with how I look. I do think I'm getting more confident in myself now though.

8 ▪︎ Do you think one gender or group worries more about beauty than another?

I do think both women and men are equally worry about how they look. It's mostly because of how much media likes to present what is beautiful and what is not in a man and a woman.

9 ▪︎ Do you think skin color affects whether a person is regarded as beautiful or not? Do you think that fairer skin makes you more beautiful?

I mean, I do not want to seem insensitive but for example the african american group will worry about their looks mainly because of their skin color. Also, from the #blm movement, it's not really anything to do with beauty sometimes but prejudices against skin color can affect what the public deems "beautiful". Also, skin color does not define overall beauty because at the end of day, there are different types of beauties regardless of skin.

10 ▪︎ How much makeup is too much?

Maybe when you just look so unrecognizable is where I draw the line. I am okay with fake lashes, drawn eyebrows and some foundation but too the point where they are overdone is maybe a bit too much for me.

11 ▪︎ Do you think it's ok for men to wear make up? How would you feel if your boyfriend/husband wore make up to enhance his looks?

Of course it's okay. Guys should be given the privilege to enhance their looks as much as the girls do. Makeup is known to be a girl thing but it's not a rule that guys shouldn't wear makeup.

12 ▪︎ What is the most expensive cosmetic that you buy these days? Did you feel that it was worth paying a lot of money for?

I don't buy my own cosmetics but money is money. It's up to you how you spend it but I personally won't spend a lot of my money on just one cosmetic.

13 ▪︎ Would you like roles to be reversed and for men to need to wear makeup, while women really should not? Why or why not?

I don't want men and women to have the need to wear makeup. Makeup should be used more as a want and an aesthetic choice but it's not necessarily needed.

14 ▪︎ Why do you think that in most cultures, men cannot dress like women or wear make up?

I think the main reason why men can't do that is because men being feminine was never really glorified in pop culture. Unlike women, where being tomboy can be seen as cool and being innocent and girly is expected sometimes. It's mostly of how some women and men just think men should always be viewed as masculine.
