Don't be nice to me
"Man what did you do to piss him off?" Killer asked parking the truck in front of the dorms.
Kid hopped over the tailgate and strolled away hands in his coat pockets.
"I asked about Perona." You replied sheepishly.
"Oh. That's still a touchy subject." Killer frowned.
"I get that now. He hasn't spoken to me in two days."
Killer quirked a brow, "Wasn't not speaking to you like a condition you had?"
"Shut up." You smirked, "It makes work difficult."
"Yeah sure." He chuckled, "They'd been together since high school."
"Oh wow." You rubbed your neck, "I'm sorry Law messed things up. He didn't know."
"He wasn't the only one. Kid just didn't want to believe it. First love and all that. It's hard to believe they'd do you wrong like that. Ya know?"
"First love?" You echoed.
Killer hummed, "She was the first girl that treated him like a person. Seems that was just a front."
You almost felt guilty for slugging him.
Killer searched your face for a moment.
"Don't worry too much F/N. He'll be arguing with you soon enough." He chuckled palming your shoulder, "Shall we?"
Killer walked you to your room.
"So we're having a party on Saturday if you wanna come and you can bring Med School if you want." He smiled.
"Sounds fun. Text me the details and I'll see if Law is free." You gave him a side hug.
"Alright. Good night then F/N." He hummed turning for the stairwell that lead to the guy's floor.
Kid stepped around the corner.
"You guys were looking cozy." He commented staring ahead.
"She's really a sweet girl." Killer chimed, "It's too bad she's got eyes for someone else."
"A creepy homewrecker." Kid added.
Killer stopped giving his best friend a pointed look before sighing, "Blind lucky bastard."
Kid blinked and continued walking up the steps, "You invited her to the party?"
"We're friends after all. You want me to uninvite her?" Killer walked into their room with Kid just a footfall behind.
"Do whatever you want." He crossed the small room flopping into his bed.
_____________
Law sat next to you at the small concrete table in the park across from the bookstore while you munched on the dinner he brought you.
"Why do you always insist on eating outside when there's a perfectly acceptable breakroom. It's getting cold." He shivered scooting closer to you.
"The cold is nice. Besides I don't think I can have a peaceful break in there." You poured some coffee from the thermos you'd brought and handed it to him.
"Isn't that guy ignoring you still?" He asked warming his hands on the small plastic cup.
"Yeah but he still glares at me when he thinks I'm not paying attention. And Shanks won't stop trying to get us to make up." You sighed.
"You sound like you want to make up." He chimed.
"Anyway... Want to come with me to a party on Saturday?" You asked changing the subject.
"Party? Since when did you do that?"
"Since Killer invited me. It's a barn party just outside the city limits."
"I guess I can tag along." He shrugged making you smile, "Your break is over."
"Don't make me go baaaack." You whined tugging at his jacket.
"I've gotta get going too. I'll see you Saturday." He kissed your forehead before heading to his car.
"F/N! Come back here after you clock in." Shanks called from his office.
You clocked in and did as you were asked. Kid stood against the back wall arms crossed his amber orbs fixed on the desk. You turned to Shanks rolling your eyes.
"This is getting old." He sighed.
"Hey, I sucked it up and apologized. He's the one acting like a child." You jabbed your thumb in Kid's direction.
He only huffed and shifted into the corner.
"What's the deal anyway?" Shanks asked.
"She likes poking around in other people's business." Kid grumbled.
"Quit being so sensitive." You snapped, "What are you a girl?"
He blinked and stepped forward.
"Excuse me?" He rumbled.
"You heard me. You're acting like a spoiled little girl. Get over it already."
He snatched you up by your collar pulling you up to face him. You grabbed his shoulders to steady yourself while he lifted you up to your tip toes. Shanks scrambled to his feet.
"You annoying little-" His expression dropped as you met his gaze smirking.
"You wanna go tomato?" You breathed.
He looked away setting you back on your feet.
"A good fight will get it out of your system." Shanks shook his head at your suggestion.
Kid pushed you aside, "I'm going on break old man."
You sighed as he stalked away.
"F/N why must you be so difficult?" The redhead crossed the room stopping in front of you.
"He's the difficult one." You argued.
"Both of you are terrible." He shook his head, "Go man the register.
You pouted and strolled over to the counter resting your chin in your right palm. A group of rowdy customers came through shuffling things around and shoving each other. You scolded them and shooed them out of the shop. Shanks came out of his office locking the door behind him.
"I'm leaving early F/N, something came up. Make sure you close up properly."
"B-but you're my ride!" You called after him.
"I'm sure Kid can take you... or his friend." With that he was out the door.
He's doing this on purpose.
"Where's the old man going?" Kid asked returning from break.
"Said something came up." You muttered climbing over the counter, "Clock in and help me out a bunch of freshman messed up the reading corner."
The rest of the evening passed quietly. Kid still kept his distance unless he needed something.
"Alright then good work today I guess." You said locking the back door.
"Yeah you too." Kid murmured.
"See ya." You turned securing your bag and starting for the sidewalk on the main road.
"Are you walking?" Kid's voice stopped you midway across the parking lot.
"Shanks was my ride and Killer and Law work tonight so, yeah." You looked back with a shrug.
"You're such a stubborn mouse." He rubbed his neck.
A small smile betrayed your lips.
"I'll give you a ride. Killer would lose his shit if he found out you walked back." He motioned you over to a primer gray motorcycle parked on the opposite side of the lot.
You looked it over gnawing on your bottom lip.
"Is this what you've been rebuilding?"
"Yep." He hummed proudly, "Just waiting on a few cosmetic parts and a paint job and she'll be finished."
You couldn't help but marvel a bit. It was amazing to you that he'd rebuilt it from just a frame and gas tank. He cleared his throat drawing your attention back.
"Ready?" Before you could answer he slipped his helmet over your head.
"What about you?" You asked nervously watching him ease onto the seat.
"I'll be fine. It isn't that far." He assured reeling you in by your sleeve and placing you on the seat in front of him.
You tensed blushing, super thankful for the helmet as he reached around you bringing the engine to life.
"Never ridden before?" He guessed.
You shook your head.
"I won't let you fall." He murmured leaning into your back.
You let out a yip as the bike lurched forward rocketing into the empty street. The cold breeze whipped over Kid's forearms and passed your shoulders. Something about moving so quickly through the darkened streets felt a little relaxing. More so that you'd imagined, sitting on a death machine with a guy you could barely stand to be around. You admired the street lights shimmering off the murky river as you crossed the South Street Bridge toward campus. It was rather breath taking in a way you hadn't noticed the millions of times you'd passed before.
"You OK mouse?" Kid's chin brushed against your shoulder so you could hear him.
You gave a quick nod.
He accelerated knocking you into his chest pulling your hands from where they'd been resting on the lip of the seat. A laugh rumbled against your back as you clung to his thighs.
Your heart rattled against your ribcage while the scenery blurred by. Whether you wanted to admit it or not this was fun. He took the back roads toward the dorms which were windy and only lit by the half-moon that still hung low in the sky. You shifted your grip back to the seat as you neared the dorm and slowed down.
"You didn't freak out like I thought you would." He admitted lifting the helmet off your head making your hair jut out in all directions.
He let out another rumbly laugh.
"Shut up." You pouted combing your fingers through your locks.
His smirk dropped and he rubbed the back of his neck, "About the other d-"
"That's something I never thought I'd see!"
Damnit Killer I was about to get my apology.
Kid's tawny gaze snapped up to his best friend.
"What?"
"You guys aren't trying to kill each other." Killer chuckled pulling you into his side.
"Shanks left her without a ride." Kid shifted, his smirk returning," I didn't want to upset her harem."
You blushed and Killer laughed.
"You can take her from here." Kid turned, helmet dangling from his index and middle fingers.
"Thanks for the ride." You muttered.
"See ya mouse." You rolled your eyes looking up at Killer, smile still etched into his features.
"He is always like this." He rumbled knowing exactly what you were thinking
