Carnival

"Are you okay Tendo?" You ask him lightly. He blinks before smiling softly.

"I'm fine… That actually reminded me of how we met." He murmurs.

"Heh… It was, wasn't it?" You smile a bit. He gives a nod, leaning down as he touches your cheeks gingerly, looking into your eyes and making a blush spread across your cheeks.

"You're as amazing as you were back then." He murmurs with a warm smile.

"I- um…" You start to stumble over your words making him chuckle softly.

"Go pay and get changed." He pats your head.

"Right." You swiftly go to the counter to pay before hurrying to the changing room to switch clothes and join them again.

"So… How did you two meet?" Mika asks as the group makes their way back to the door.

"Well… We were in grade school. Rory and her buddies had found me on my way home from school and started picking on me. Then they started throwing rocks, and I fell, curling up to protect myself. Then, the next thing I knew, someone was hugging me, for the first time in my life." He chuckles bitterly before continuing.

"She took a few hits herself when she did that. Then put herself between me and Rory. But before they could do anything- ___'s friends came charging in hitting them and making them run away… It was amazing." He recalls with a small smile. "Course, her friends were naturally wary of me, and after ___ patched me up they took her along."

"Aww that's such a sweet story." Mika breathes, touching her cheek.

"If I remember right you got hit on the head by one of those rocks." Tendo touches near your hairline.

"Yeah. My dad panicked when he saw it." You chuckle lightly.

"I bet. Being a lone parent must've been nerve wrecking." Atsumu comments as the group reaches the door.

"Nah, ___ was probably a better kid than we were." Osamu points out before everyone passes through.

"Oh? Did you guys have a lone parent too?" Mika asks.

"Yeah. Dad couldn't help because of an..

Illness. Mom kind of made him leave." Atsumu admits.

"But mom had Aunt Autumn to help out too." Osamu adds in before sending you a smile. "She always missed you." You blink and smile back, looking down.

"I wonder what would've happened if I didn't respond to the mana from those clouds." You breathe.

         "Isn't it obvious?" Atsumu inquires.

"Yeah… Kind of sad to wonder about." You murmur.

"I think we would've tried meeting you at some point." Osamu admits.

          "Yeah." Atsumu nods.

"Let's not think about things that didn't happen. ___'s here and it's great." Mika chimes hugging you happily. You smile a bit at that, looking ahead as the group nears the door to the Elven shopping district.

".... That demon is gonna try tagging along." Atsumu suddenly grumbles.

"Is there anyone you like?" Mika sweatdrops.

"Nope." He scoffs, the back of his neck becoming pink for a moment.

"You're such a lie." Osamu mutters.

"Shut it Samu!" The blond snaps before passing through.

"Well, at least he keeps things interesting." Tendo jokes lightly.

"Sure. I wish he wasn't so mad all the time." You frown as everyone else files through the portal.

Once through you keep a careful eye out for the wildlife. A fox weaves through your legs, unbalancing you and nearly making you fall if not for Tendo catching you.

"You were being so careful too, that mischievous fox." He chuckles lightly.

"He came out of nowhere." You murmur looking for the fox to see it already gone. "So fast."

"Hurry up will ya?" Atsumu calls over his shoulder as the others reach the shop. You blink and hurry over with Tendo. Atsumu shakes his head, opening the door to go in but Oikawa comes out to greet you with a hug.

"___! I knew you'd be coming today!" He chimes.

"Eh? You did?" You blink in surprise. He straightens up with a smile and a nod that makes his chocolate locks bounce slightly.

"Yeah, this morning mom had me making foresight potions and I decided to try one to make sure it was good." He rumbles.

"Really? That's so cool… I wanna learn to make potions like you and Mika." You comment thoughtfully.

"I'll teach you anytime ___. Come on in, I got the potions ready for the carnival… And yes Atsumu, I'm coming along. I'd love to go to the human realm with everyone." Oikawa leads everyone into the shop. You peer down the isles as you follow along, spotting another kitsune with gray hair that was tipped with black. His calm gold eyes looking over a potion. You pause, not recognizing him, maybe he went to the kitsune school that the twins had mentioned?

One of his ears flick to you, making you jump slightly as his eyes slide over to you. "Ah… Hi." You hold up a hand in greeting before quickly going to join Oikawa's side.

"Hello again." Iwazumi greets you behind the counter.

"Hi… You help out here too?" You inquire.

"Sometimes. She had an errand and should be back soon." He answers, looking over the potions that Oikawa was putting on the counter.

"Who's paying for all these?" Oikawa asks, looking at the group.

           "I can-"

"Got it!" Atsumu declares, cutting you off. He points at you. "We're going to need your human money when we get there."

           "Ah. Okay." You nod.

"Besides we only need them for the kitsunes, mermaid and myself." Oikawa assures.

           "Right." You nod.

"I'm back." His mother calls coming into the shop with a basket of plants. "Thanks for watching the shop boys, the collecting in Drake Mountains was refreshing."

"Glad you had a nice time out." Oikawa rumbles as Iwazumi comes around the counter to let her by. The kitsune that had been in one of the aisles steps beside you at the counter.

"Do you have what you need now?" He asks her. His voice was calm and soft.

"Yep." She nods, starting on a potion.

"Come on ___, let's get going." Tendo hums.

"Okay." You nod, before glancing at the kitsune, locking eyes with him briefly before hurrying to Tendo's side.

"I'm kinda excited, aren't you?" Tendo hums.

"Kind of. Though I was really curious about Cloud 9." You smile stepping outside the shop with him.

"Alright, this way to the human world door." Oikawa starts off steadily.

"Who said he could lead?" Atsumu huffs.

"Who said YOU could?" Osamu responds, making Atsumu grab his shirt.

"What does it matter as long as we get there?" Iwazumi inquires.

"Don't mind them, they quarrel whenever they can." Tendo chuckles to him as you hold onto his sleeve, watching some wolves pass by the shopping area.

"So big…" You murmur in awe.

"Those are dire wolves. I don't think the human world has any of those left." Mika tells you.

"Dire wolves?!" You gasp, looking at her in awe.

"Mhm. The elves saved many creatures from extinction." Iwazumi tells you.

"Even dinosaurs?" You whisper. He smiles, leaning down to your level.

"They put those in their own realm. I go there sometimes but it can be pretty dangerous." He murmurs to you with a slight sparkle in his eyes.

          "I wanna go." You breathe.

          "Me too." Tendo gasps.

"Heh, sure. I'll show you guys sometime. Give me your numbers." Iwazumi chuckles, passing you his phone. You blink, putting in your number along with Tendo's.

"I'll be looking forward to it." You smile at him.

"I'll think of a good time to take you both. Might be before the Magic Ball  season starts." He nods.

"You play too?" You tilt your head.

"Yep. I'm a brawler for Akuma High." He tells you. "We got this really strong runner too. His name is Raze. But we don't know what he is."

"Huh…" You tilt your head. "So we'll be playing against you at some point."

"Most likely. And, we'll be the winners." He rumbles.

"Like hell ya are. Akuma is going down." Atsumu claims, giving a thumbs down.

"We'll see." Iwazumi shakes his head.

"We've got to go to that game." Tendo hums.

"___ already promised to come to all of my games." Atsumu says boastfully.

"Yeah. So you come too, we'll watch together." You smile at Tendo.

           "Alright." He hugs you happily.

"Oi. It's not gonna be a date." Atsumu huffs.

"So noisy. We're here." Oikawa chuckles, stopping at an old arch. "Drink the potions." He prompts, doing so before passing through. The twins do the same before following along with Kiyoko. You and the rest go through after.

"Ah, these ears are weak." Atsumu huffs, rubbing his now human ear.

"You two look very different now." You hum, ruffling Osamu's hair.

"I hope that means good." He chuckles.

"It does." You assure him before pulling up the map on your phone. "The carnival is just down the road… Wherever that is…" You look around the forest where you currently stood.

Ki          "I smell the road that way." Mika points.

"Oh good, at least you can still smell." You comment.

"Mhm. I'll lead now." She says starting off.

          "So reliable." Kiyoko comments.

"So cool too." You giggle as you and Kiyoko share a smile.

"Stop… You're going to make me blush…" Mika murmurs in embarrassment.

"Girls are so cute." Oikawa smiles thoughtfully.

Mika leads the group to the road, and then you lead, already having an idea of where it was. After a little bit you come to the field where the carnival sat, and pay for the way in for everyone.

"___, I can pay for your rides. I still have plenty of money from when we lived on this side." Tendo tells you happily.

"You sure?" You smile a bit.

"Mhm. Just let me know." He rumbles.

"This is waaaay less crowded than Cloud 9." Atsumu comments.

"This is like… Empty." Osamu agrees.

"... Seems normal to me. That place must be hard to move around in." You breathe to Tendo.

"Sounds like a big can of sardines to me." He murmurs back.

"Hey ___! Let's go to the House of Mirrors!" Oikawa chimes coming to your side. "I'll hold your hand so we don't get separated."

"Oh, okay." You nod at his excitement.

"Let's go." He rumbles starting off with you. You glance back at Tendo to give a shrug as he chuckles.

"Have fun!" He waves after you.

"He doesn't put up much of a fight." Oikawa breathes, making you look at him as he peers at you thoughtfully. "You two are pretty glued together huh?"

           "I guess we are… But I don't mind. It's not a bother." You smile.

"Hm. I wonder if you mean that or if you're just being nice." He tilts his head. You pause as you pay to go in.

"I do mean it." You answer, a bit serious.

"I see… How cute. But you're not going out are you?" He guesses.

"We're not. Why does everyone keep asking that?" You huff looking at yourself in the mirrors.

"It's highschool. This is supposed to be the time to find romance." He chuckles lightly. You squint your eyes at one of his reflections making him laugh. "It's true. The whole, 'highschool sweethearts' and what not." He points out.

"I suppose you have a point but…" You frown a bit.

"Is it the predator/prey thing?" Oikawa hums, making you lower your gaze.

"I don't think he's comfortable with it." You admit, moving around a wall, pulling him along.

"Probably doesn't trust himself. But I wouldn't know, we demons don't really prey on anything but souls and sins." He shrugs as you both come across a couple that sends you weird looks, telling you they had been listening.

"We're role playing." You inform them in embarrassment. They give slight nods in response before moving around a corner briefly. You and Oikawa share a look before he starts laughing lightly, leaning to put his forehead to your shoulder.

         "That was funny." He snickers.

"You mean embarrassing." You correct quietly before moving on.

"Anyway, if he won't go out with you, I will." He decides lightly. You give him a look at that, making his eyes widen slightly. "Hey… What's with that look of distrust? I have morals, you know?" He defends pouting, only to receive another look from you. "So what if I'm a demon? I'm also an honest guy."

"... I can't believe you understood what I was thinking." You blink turning another corner.

"You know. For a halfling you're kinda mean." He grumbles before smiling and hugging you, making you stiffen in surprise. "But I kinda like it."

"You're weird." You smile with a shake of your head.

"I get that a lot… Mostly from my nephew though." He mutters.

"You have a nephew?" You blink in surprise.

"Yeah, wanna see pictures?" He grins before walking into a mirror. You turn away to cover your mouth and conceal a giggle. "... I know you're laughing at me."

"We should get out of here before you get distracted again." You manage.

"Right…" He sighs in embarrassment. You chuckle and tug his hand along as you find the way out of the maze. "Not bad ___, you figured that out faster than me." He comments.

"You think so?" You tilt your head.

"Yeah, now look at Takeru!" He brandishes the picture of a little demon boy. "He's learning to play Magic Ball." He grins proudly. You watch him for a few moments as he looks at the picture thoughtfully.

           "Oikawa."

           "Hm?"

           "You're surprisingly cute."

"Aw… Wait, what do you mean 'surprisingly'?" He sends you a pout.

"Oi." Atsumu's voice makes you both look over as the annoyed guy comes over. "There ya are, what were ya sneaking off for?" He asks, sending Oikawa a light glare.

"Oh, forgot you had a guard dog." Oikawa comments to you.

"I'm not a guard dog!" Atsumu growls.

A tap on your shoulder makes you look over at Tendo. He offers a smile, putting an index finger to his lips while his free hand takes yours and guides you away as the two guys start to argue.

"They don't get along huh?" Tendo chuckles once you're away from them.

"I don't think Atsumu gets along with a lot of people." You sigh, rubbing your cheek. "I worry about that sometimes."

"Mm I don't think he's bothered by it at all, no need to worry." He assures lightly, peering at your face. You meet his gaze and smile back.

"True… Were you waiting for us to come out?" You ask curiously.

"Actually I was looking at a game nearby, but it was noticeably rigged… I wanted to win something for you but my luck isn't great." He admits sheepishly, looking down. You watch his face for a bit before smiling again.

"That's okay. I'm pretty content right now… Just having you here is great." You breathe. He blinks in surprise before looking at you, starting to blush before hugging you happily.

"You're too sweet!" He gushes, nuzzling your shoulder, arms tightening slightly as he hums. "Can we… Go on the ferris wheel?" He asks lightly.

"Sure." You look up at it with a small smile. "It's been a while since I've been on one."

"I've never been on one, mainly read about them in manga…" He trails off sheepishly.

"Oh? I think you'll like it." You tell him, taking his hand and starting for the ride. He seems to get nervous as you both reach it. He pays for you two to get on and you both settle in the basket. He swallows, peering out the window curiously as it starts to raise. He holds your hand between his thumbs rubbing over your hand anxiously.

"It's kind of wobbly." He remarks with a nervous chuckle.

"It is, but don't worry, we'll be fine." You lean on him, peering out his window too.

"Right." He nods before peeking at you. "Your eyes are so beautiful ___.” He whispers. You pause, feeling yourself blush heavily before you hide your face in his arm. He chuckles slightly at that. "I was just being honest."

"I like your eyes too." You breathe. Now it's his turn to blush.

"Aw… ___.” He chuckles sheepishly before stiffening as the ferris wheel stops with a jerk, making you both look out the window. "Wow." He breathes taking in the landscape. "So high up."

"Mhm. You okay?" You ask him. He hums, leaning back as he keeps his gaze outside.

"I can't fly very high. Maybe like five feet off the ground since I'm so weak… I'll never be able to fly this high." He murmurs. He hums and tilts his head with a smile. "But, that doesn't bother me near as much as it would have if I had done what was needed in order to fly this high."

The ferris wheel starts to move again and he keeps staring out the window. He seemed at peace in this moment. You swallow, leaning up and kissing his cheek. "I'm so happy you're weak." You breathe, as he blinks a few times. A blush soon covers his face completely and he turns to you, hugging you tightly.

"Heh. Me too, because you make me so much happier!" He chimes softly. You giggle lightly and hug him back.

"But you know… I wish there was a way to help you fly without eating someone." You breathe.

"Mm. There's the mana fruit from a Mother Mana tree… But that would be near impossible." He pulls back with a smile, looking into your eyes. "Don't worry about that though. I'm content."

"But…. You deserve all the happiness!" You raise your arms to emphasize. He blinks and laughs, hugging you again and rubbing his cheek on yours.

"I already told you, I'm happy." He breathes, grinning cheerfully.

"Good." You smile, touching his arm.

"What's next?" He asks as you both get off the ferris wheel once it stops at the bottom.

"Not sure." You admit, peering about.

"___! Let's go on the rollercoaster!" Mika chimes, crashing into you with a hug.

          "Sounds good."

You stayed there until the sun started to go down. Laughing and talking as the group walks back to the portal, carrying prizes and cotton candy.

"This has been an amazing day." Tendo smiles.

"Yeah. This was a brilliant idea ___!” Mika exclaims with a bounce.

"I'm glad everyone had fun… Are you spending another night?" You ask the girls.

"No, sorry, my parents like having me home on Sundays." Mika tells you.

"I need to head home today too. Hopefully we can do this again soon." Kiyoko breathes.

"I hope so too." You agree with a nod.

"Can I spend the night?" Oikawa jokes, immediately getting hit in the head. "Ow Iwa-chan!"

"You knew that was stupid the moment you opened your mouth." Iwazumi huffs.

"Ya know, I wish you went to school with us Iwazumi." Atsumu chuckles.

"That would be a nightmare." Oikawa mutters.

"Huh?" Iwazumi rumbles dangerously, making the twins laugh.

"He is pretty cool." Osamu admits.

"We're here." Mika points ahead to an arch of twisted trees. Everyone passes through, stopping on the other side to say farewells before splitting up to head home.

          "That was nice." Osamu breathes.

"Mhm." You hum in agreement, yawning slightly.

"Tired huh? Sleep well." Tendo rubs your back before nudging you into Atsumu's side. "I'll see you guys later." He waves before splitting off.

"Goodnight Tendo." You call after him, tripping slightly in the process.

"Alright, up you go." Atsumu picks you up, putting you on Osamu's back.

"You had fun, Atsumu." You smile sleepily at him, hugging Osamu's neck as the calm twin piggybacks you.

"What makes you say that?" He hums in amusement.

"You were smiling a lot. And yelling very little." You murmur.

"... Really? That's it?" He deadpans.

"Mhm. I'm glad you had fun." You breathe.

"Right back at ya." He reaches up, rubbing your head.

"I loved those turkey legs." Osamu comments.

"Hehe the foodie approves." You tease.

"It was good. I'm going to learn those recipes too." He chuckles.

Atsumu rolls his eyes with a smirk, "Spoken like a true foodie."

"Shut up… Let's get sleepy beauty home." Osamu rumbles in amusement.

"Yeah. You two need to get to bed." You agree.

"... He was referring to you ___…" Atsumu laughs.

"Nu uh. You guys are way prettier."
