Cute
You woke up before your alarm, maybe an hour before. The dream you had been having was sweet, and cute. Made you miss Tendo. You roll to your side, looking for your phone. Maybe you could message him? You stop and frown. No, he didn't have a phone. It bothered you for a moment, wanting to see him if you couldn't message him. You sit up in bed, rubbing your eyes with a small whine.
"Ah… I want to see him." You grumble getting out of bed to get dressed for school before heading downstairs.
"Hmm? You're up early dear… Did you have a bad dream?" Your mom asks from the counter where she was, using magic to mix ingredients in a bowl.
"Not really. I just suddenly wanted to message my friend but he doesn't have a phone." You admit with a frown, sitting at the counter. "What are you doing Mama?"
"Making a sleep potion for a friend, she travels a lot and is having problems sleeping lately…" She answers you, before tilting her head. "Who is the friend?"
"Tendo." You answer lightly.
"Oh, the boy that you went to elementary and middle school with." She nods. You have been keeping them updated since it didn't feel right lying to them. Although, you still haven't mentioned that Tendo was an imp.
"Yeah… I don't think his family is kind to him… I remember his cousin and her friends ganging up on him back in elementary." You frown softly. "He always looks so lonely." She blinks as she watches you before finishing the potion.
"We have an extra phone. The company insisted that a four phone plan was cheaper than a three phone… So we have one in a box still, over in the hall closet." She points to it as you blink. She gives you a smile. "It's not doing anyone good by being in there, so give it to him."
"I will. Thanks mom!" You gasp going to the closet and taking down the bag with the company logo to retrieve the box. "I'm going to put our numbers in it for him." You hum going back to the counter to ready the phone.
"Good, and bring him over some time so I can meet him." She says, fluttering to the fridge. "What do you want for breakfast?"
"Anything is fine." You tell her. You had stopped moving at the thought of bringing Tendo home. You were worried how she would react, and Tendo would probably feel like you had led him onto an eggshell path. She decides to make pancakes and yogurt fruit cups.
"You should text the twins to come over for breakfast. I'm feeling energized." She beams as you pause to watch her magic swirl around with the ingredients.
"Okay." You hum, doing so. To your surprise, Atsumu responds instantly with a 'be right there' text. "He's up early…" You mutter. Osamu was always complaining how hard it was to get him out of bed.
"Good morning ladies… Wow…" Your father stops to watch the magic for a moment before sitting beside you. "I don't think I'll ever stop being amazed by that." He comments as a wisp of magic brings him a cup of coffee. "What are you up to, Butterfly?" He asks you, peering at the phones.
"Mom said I could give the extra phone to Tendo, so I'm setting it up for him." You tell him.
"Ahh, you're both so sweet… And I'm glad you still have a friend from before. Must make this a little bit easier on you." He smiles.
"The twins make it easier too… I really like it here." You tell him as the front door opens.
"Good." He hugs you briefly before greeting the twins as they come in.
"Morning." Osamu yawns, fox ears flickering sleepily.
"Good morning." Atsumu grins.
"... Did you never go to sleep?" You ask the blond in concern. He blinks before chuckling.
"He woke up early to frolic." Osamu informs. His brother hits his arm at that.
"Don't make it sound stupid!... I went for a run, I'll be doing that now, training for Magic Ball." Atsumu raises his chin proudly at that.
"Good on you Atsumu, looking forward to seeing you play." Your dad rumbles. Atsumu smiles at that, sitting on your father's other side.
"So you been watching then?" He chuckles.
"Yeah. The games are amazing. Like watching a movie." Your father nods. He and Atsumu start to chat about magic sports as Osamu sits on your free side.
"So what's with the new phone?" He asks you lightly.
"It's an extra so I'm giving it to Tendo after I put in the contacts. Oh! Don't let me forget the hoodie." You gasp to him. Osamu blinks before chuckling softly.
"He's gonna feel like it's his birthday." He comments, tilting his head and watching you smile a bit. "You should take a selfie and make it his background. I bet he'd like that."
"Hm? Why would he?" You furrow your eyebrows.
"Just a hunch. I know Atsumu likes having you as his background too." He smirks.
"I do not! I have you on it too! And Aunt Autumn!" Atsumu suddenly snaps.
"Don't yell, it's too early." You sigh. He scoffs before continuing his conversation with your amused father.
"Sorry. Couldn't help it." Osamu yawns.
"Troublesome fox." You hum, rubbing his head.
"Oi. I'm going to fall asleep if you do that." He chuckles.
"Breakfast!" Your mom chimes, all the plates and dishes getting set down in front of everyone.
"Wow that's a lot." You blink.
"Looks like someone is feeling energized today." Your father hums as he digs in.
"Thanks for the food!" The twins chime doing the same. You smile as your mom starts to eat, following suit as you peer at the phone. The feeling hadn't faded, you still wanted to see him.
After breakfast you go back upstairs to get your backpack, being sure not to forget his hoodie this time. You pause, looking at his phone before going over to your protea and taking a picture with it before making that the background.
"Hey ___, you ready?" Osamu asks, stopping at the threshold.
"You're ready too?" You blink in surprise. "So fast."
"Yeah, well, you looked like you were ready to head over already, so I'll walk with you, Atsumu said he's going to jump in the shower first." He tells you as you start back down stairs with him.
"Okay…" You nod. "Bye Mom, dad, see you later." You tell them as you pass through to the front door. They call after you for you to have a good day. Once you and Osamu start down the sidewalk, you glance about. "I just wanted to message Tendo as soon as I woke up. But since I couldn't, I just… Couldn't go back to sleep." You admit quietly.
"I had a feeling that was it- since you were doing the phone thing and all… Really like that guy hm?" He peers at you.
"I've always wanted to be friends with him. But I wasn't good at approaching him. Maybe even then my instincts wouldn't let me… He's good. He shouldn't look so lonely all the time." You murmur looking ahead.
Osamu smiles, putting a hand on your head. "You're so sweet. I'll be his friend too so you don't have to worry."
"Tendo is so lucky to have a friend like you." You chuckle. He pauses and blushes lightly, pulling your hood over your face.
"It's too early for marshmallow comments." He huffs. You giggle and free yourself as he pauses. "Guess he's eager to see you too." He comments, nodding toward the school. You follow his gaze to see Tendo waiting where you had left him.
You blink, your heart feeling lighter at sight of him. Osamu nudges you forward and you quickly move ahead to greet the imp.
"Wow you're early." Tendo says in surprise as you reach him. Your mouth wouldn't open to speak yet. You just hold the box out to him. "For me?" He raises his eyebrows, taking the box. He peers in at the phone and pauses.
"I-I wanted to message you earlier… B-but you don't have a phone, and we had an extra… So…" You stammer feeling yourself blush as you keep your eyes down. Tendo blushes slightly looking at you before he grins and hugs you.
"If you get any cuter I might die." He chuckles happily. He smiles softly, hugging you a bit tighter. "Thank you ___.” He breathes. You swallow, making your scared arms wrap around his waist in response.
"No problem… Just message me whenever you want. I gave you all my contacts, and my number is on there too." You tell him, letting go as he does. He blinks at that.
"I got your number and didn't even have to ask?" He breathes in amazement, opening the box to take out the phone. He turns it on, looking at the wallpaper and starts to smile before hiding his face in your shoulder, chuckling quietly.
"He's so happy he forgot how to talk." Osamu comments, slightly teasing.
"I am…" Tendo murmurs before picking up his head from your shoulder. "Thank you again."
'He's so cute.' You think with a smile. "Ah what should we do until the bell?" You look at Osamu.
"I'm going to head to the baking club room. See you later." He gives a wave as he heads off.
"... How helpful." You mutter, watching him go.
"Want to hang out in one of the greenhouses?" Tendo asks you.
"Yes." You smile at him, "Which one?"
"Mmm. The mermaid theme seems like a pleasant way to start the day." He nods peering at your face thoughtfully.
"It does." You agree lightly as you both start for the greenhouse.
"How did you sleep?" He inquires lightly.
"I slept well, what about you?" You ask.
"I actually got a full four hours last night, so I slept great." He grins.
"Only four?" You echo.
"Imps don't need much sleep." He shrugs.
"Oh. I didn't realize." You blink at that, tilting your head.
"You probably sleep like a human though right?" He guesses.
"How long do fairies sleep?" You ask.
"They don't, if they do it's because they're hurt." He hums.
"No wonder it's like she never sleeps." You sigh.
"I'm sure she naps at least." He breathes as he opens the door and lets you enter first. You smile going through the greenhouse again, stopping at the leviathan gem lily.
"It's so strange… You know? It's been a summer and a few days and… I still feel like I've crossed into a dream." You murmur. He blinks at that before coming behind you and hugging you. "Is it a good dream?" He murmurs, tipping your chin so you would look up at him. Your body had become still, shivering as fearful instincts ran up and down your spine. You offer a smile.
"It really is." You assure. He smiles and tilts his head, watching your face.
"You're shivering. Are you cold?" He asks before he frowns lightly. "Or is that because of me?" He adds quietly, making you frown as well. You turn in his arms and hug him tightly with shaky arms. He pauses in surprise before smiling. "You really don't have to force yourself. I'm just happy you don't avoid me."
"I'm not forcing myself… I like being around you. I always feel better." You assure him. He blinks before smiling more and hugging you tightly.
"Good." He murmurs. He pulls away after a bit, relaxing happily. "I'm so happy you're here too. I was worried you wouldn't be at Blanda." He says thoughtfully.
"Hm? Is that why you came here?" You ask him. He pauses, blushing lightly before smiling sheepishly.
"Ah… Would that be weird? I mean, we had finally talked after so long… I didn't want that to end so quickly." He breathes, rubbing his neck.
You blink and smile widely at that. "Me too."
"So what's she like? Your mom?" He asks curiously with a head tilt. "Is she anything like you imagined?"
You pause, taking a moment to think about it before sitting down. "She's… More than I expected. So warm and cheerful. I can't imagine how I went so long without a mom." You admit with a small smile.
"I bet. I mean, you are her daughter. I bet a lot of your best traits come from her." He breathes, sitting with you.
"Mm…" You hum in agreement, not really wanting to stay on the family subject in case it killed his mood. He leans on you, resting his cheek on your head.
"I'm glad you're happy still. And as always you're making so many friends." He breathes.
"Yeah. I'm really lucky." You muse, reflecting on everything that has happened already. There's a moment of quiet before someone bursts into the greenhouse, making you both jump in surprise.
"There ya are!" Atsumu huffs, sending an unfriendly look toward Tendo as Bokuto follows him in.
"Hi ___! We're going to get some practice in. Wanna come watch?" He chimes.
"Ah. Okay." You nod, feeling curious.
"You can come too, boyfriend guy." Bokuto waves Tendo to follow. You and Tendo pause at that, blushes rising up.
"Tch. They're not going out. So let's go." Atsumu grumbles, heading back out with flattened ears.
"Right." Tendo breathes, as you clear your throat awkwardly.
"Oops. My bad you two." Bokuto chuckles leading the way out behind Atsumu.
They lead you both to the gym, which was huge. "Wow… it's like a football field…" You mutter.
"That's right," Atsumu hums, pressing a button on the wall and making two hoops rise from the floor.
"Check this thing out." Bokuto rumbles, coming over with a silvery ball that looks like it was made out of small chains. "This is a magic ball, see the crystal center? That's where we send our attributes for more control of the ball." He explains lightly with a smile on his lips.
"It looks heavy." You comment, touching it. It did feel like metal chains, still flexible though. Bokuto smiles and passes it to your hands, making you huff in surprise. "That's kinda heavy." You nod.
"Put some mana into it." Atsumu tells you, coming over. You blink before looking at the crystal in the center, sending some mana to the crystal, making it light up like a light bulb.
"Wow that's bright!" Bokuto chuckles as guys look away.
"Sorry." You gasp, passing it to Atsumu.
"It's fine, but look now that I have it I can change the element to fire." He chuckles, making the ball light up with a warm flame. He tosses it up and makes it curve in the air before Bokuto catches it, his wind attribute making the crystal glow a soft neon green.
"Cool right?" Bokuto chuckles.
"Mhm." You smile with a nod.
"So you have to have magic power to play?" Tendo tilts his head.
"Not really, just gotta be fast and strong." Atsumu assures.
"Hmm." Tendo hums, making you peer at him.
"Would you play?" You ask him, making him pause.
"Ah. I dunno, never really tried before." He admits sheepishly.
"We'll give you two a demo, let's play Tsumu!" Bokuto chimes.
"You're on." Atsumu rumbles as they both move to the space between the two hoops. Bokuto puts the ball in the center of the court before moving back.
"Hey ___! Start us please!" The angel calls.
"Sure. And…. Begin!" You call, chopping the air. They both lunge for the ball, Atsumu getting to it faster. The ball ignites with a fiery glow. The kitsune spins around Bokuto and throws the ball for the hoop but a whirlwind catches it, Bokuto jumps up to catch the ball. It changes elements and he launches it toward the other hoop. Atsumu clicks his tongue, eyes igniting and making fire burst from the hoop to knock back the bowl.
"Nope." Bokuto rumbles, sending a wind burst after the ball, forcing it through.
"Wooo! That was so cool!" You gasp, throwing up your arms.
"And that's just easy mode. In a game there's six players on each side and three hoops for both." Bokuto rumbles happily. "There's a platform that rises in the center too, ten feet tall. That's where the runners play. The space on either side is for the brawlers."
"You're losing them." Atsumu hums as you try to imagine what Bokuto was telling you. "It's easier to understand when you watch."
"Sounds like it can get pretty crazy." Tendo comments.
"Mhm. Especially if there's an Ace Runner. They can really cause chaos." Bokuto nods, hopping slightly.
"Hehe you really like playing huh?" You comment with a smile.
"Oh yeah it's a rush! You wanna try?" He inquires.
"Oh, I want to see that. Can I be your opponent? I'll be gentle." Another voice hums, making everyone look over as Oikawa eases over with a smile.
"I guess I can try…" You smile, scratching your cheek. "But I'm getting nervous."
"Hey, don't sweat it. We're just playing." Oikawa puts a hand on your head.
"Oi. Don't get all chummy, demon." Atsumu growls.
"... So protective… Come on, let's see what you can do." Oikawa collects the ball and you go stand in the place where Bokuto had stood before. Oikawa sets the ball at the center, sending you a smile before getting back. Bokuto comes to the center side.
"Ready?... Begin!" He calls, slashing an arm down. You dive for the ball, making it light up instantly.
'Hoop.. The Hoop!' You momentarily panic, but Oikawa was moving calmly, reaching for the ball. You gasp and move around him making him chuckle in amusement, reaching over your shoulder to touch it. You jump as it flickers with lightning making you release it. He takes it, moving for the other hoop briskly. You blink, hesitating.
"Go ___! You can do it!" Tendo calls.
"Come on ___!” Bokuto cheers.
You nod, rushing after Oikawa as he pauses to look at the guys. He looks back at you as you thrust your arm under his, knocking the ball from his grasp and changing the element.
"Hm?" He hums in surprise as you use your element control to throw the ball for the other hoop. It zips through, embedding itself into the wall and making you jump.
"Haha! Nice one!" Bokuto cheers as Atsumu runs to get the ball out of the wall.
"Oh no…" You worry as Tendo laughs lightly from the sidelines.
"Look at you, you're a natural." Oikawa comments patting your shoulder.
"You went really easy on me though." You give him a doubtful look.
"Yeah. I was enjoying that adorable panicked look on your face… So cute." He gushes, fangs glinting as he smiles at you. "Let's play again."
"I don't know… Maybe later." You murmur.
"I'll be looking forward to it."
"Tell me a story, it could be real, could be fake. I don't care what it is. But I want you to show me your skill." Mr. Arrow requests. The new guy on your otherside shifts, making you glance at the masked guy, his eyes looking troubled.
"What's wrong?" You ask him, making him pause and look at you.
"I'm not good at writing…" He grumbles.
"He said it could be real, why not tell him about your favorite memory?" You point out.
"Because my way with words makes me seem like a child." He sighs. You blink at him before humming.
"You speak well though. Just write it down like you're speaking." You point out. He tilts his head, still seeming unhappy. "I'll proofread and help you once you finish." You offer. He thinks it over before looking at you and giving a nod.
"Alright then." He nods before getting started. You start to write too, telling the story of how you came to this mythical world.
Tendo falls asleep once he finishes writing, shivering slightly and catching your attention. You blink and take out the hoodie you had gotten him, putting it over his back and making him hum quietly.
"Finished." Your new neighbor breathes, making you look back at him as he peers between you and Tendo.
"Alright, let's see…" You take it as he offers it.
"Would you like me to proofread yours?" He asks.
"That would be great, thanks." You pass yours over as you read his. He had written it like a journal entry, the words flowing nicely. You smile a bit. "Your handwriting is really nice, and I think it reads well. Have more confidence…" You glance at his name on the paper. "Sakusa." You peer at him. He doesn't respond at first as he reads your paper.
"Good." He nods. "I like your writing. This story is really interesting too. Is it true?" He asks as you switch papers with him.
"Yeah…" You smile a bit.
"I'd like to read more about it then." He murmurs. You blink and smile more at that, giving him a nod as Tendo stirs.
"Mm…" Tendo hums sleepily.
"Tendo, did you finish? Want me to read yours?" You ask him.
"Sure~" He hums without opening his eyes. You reach for his paper but he suddenly wakes with a start. "Wait. Wait… No. Please don't." He blushes covering the paper.
"Um… Alright… Are you okay?" You ask with a head tilt.
"Yeah. Of course… Hm?" He notices the hoodie and holds up the sleeve. "Where did this come from?"
"It's yours." You murmur looking away as your face heats up.
"It's mine?" He raises an eyebrow, peering at you.
"Mhm. It's yours." You nod, still avoiding his gaze. He smiles and cuddles you happily at that.
"Aww. Best day ever." He gushes happily.
"You're both being disgustingly cute." Sakusa comments.
"Ah… Sorry." You manage, blushing heavily.
"Hi. You're new, starting late?" Tendo smiles at him.
"We were out of town and just got back yesterday." Sakusa responds.
"I see. So you were visiting the human world." Tendo smiles.
"Yes. I went to visit my ancestors." Sakusa nods.
"Hm?" You blink curiously.
"It's a rite of passage for Wizards." Tendo tells you.
"Really? How was it?" You look at Sakusa.
"It was interesting to say the least… Like you, I had no idea I was more than a human." He touches his chest in thought before meeting your gaze and seeming to soften with a hidden smile. "I don't feel as uneasy now, since I'm not the only one adjusting."
"It's a bit overwhelming. But I'll help you if I can. So let's be friends." You grin at him.
"Sure."
