Chapter 16
Tiny Point of View
It's beautiful!
I cannot decide which is more beautiful; the lit tree house or the night or him. Maybe it's the combination of all the three that made the whole thing so good.
I silently watched him flip another chunk of meat over the grill along with some onions and other veggies. I stay seated on a small camping chair laid near the bonfire. The night is neither too cold not hot. It's just perfect.
He changed into his nightwear and so did I. I changed into a night gown that was left for me in the bag. It was so light and thin and airy. It felt so good on my body as if I'm not wearing anything.
But what me feel weird and tingly was the way how Human sculpture has been throwing glances at me every now and then.
But his gaze has this mix of his usual cold and something new and hot. It's as if I'm a paper that he wants to burn with his heat.
"What do you like to do in your free time?" I started, when I saw him arranging the food on the table.
Walking up to the table, I took my seat and he sat across me on the other side. He briefly looked at me and served the food for two of us.
"Speed racing." He shrugged rubbing his hands as he proceeded to eat.
"What about you? I mean do you have a free time that you can use for something else?" He asked me back and started to ponder on what I do on my free time.
"Umm, I... clean. I love to clean my room and my house. Whenever I'm free or whenever I'm not in a good mood I clean everything I see." At this, he rose an eyebrow at me, gesturing he is surprised.
Well, I'm a neat person. I love my duster and rags.
"Surprising. Tell me, why do you have a crush on me? I'm a cold person, you see. An arrogant prick and I'm not changing myself for anyone so what makes you like me?"
Putting a spoon full of food in my mouth, I spoke right away because I don't even need time to think. "That's the reason I started like you. You are cold, arrogant and unchanging. You are also hot and handsome. But I find you expressing yourself clearly be it love or hate. You don't pretend and I kind of fell for that."
He is a hard nut to crack but hey, who cares when he is my nut.
A small smile appeared and disappeared on him lips like a shooting star. He like my answer and I just knew it from the spark in his eyes that he is trying so hard to conceal.
I have him!
Yay, I got him!
Cacao, my brother, I love you. Thank you for telling me to have this simple heartfelt conversation. You are the real superhero.
"You are weird, you know that." I hummed in reply, totally accepting his claims.
"And you are sometimes overbearing." I hummed again giving him a proud smile.
Well, all the Almonds are. We are overbearing because we don't give people a chance to step over us. This is something my great great grandparents developed this certain trait in their children after going through loads of hassles in life.
It's inherited and we treasure it like gold and property.
"You know, this is the first time I ever got dragged to places, forced to do something against my will. Your family is a nightmare, seriously." He shook his head as he shiver at the mention of my family.
It was so funny that he is scared of Almonds. I mean, we Almonds are the most kind and caring humans on this earth. What is he so scared of?
"What's the time, Human sculpture?" I asked finishing my dinner with a glass of juice. He finished his at the same time and wiped his lips with a napkin.
"Why, the hell, do you call me that? I was meaning to ask you this from a long time but couldn't find the right moment." He gasped as he folded his hands on the table and gave me his full attention.
"Because you are a human sculpture. Perfect yet a human." Isn't it obvious?
His eyes widened a little and lips quivered before he cleared his throat and turned to have a look at his watch.
He seems suddenly different this evening. Like, he has somehow changed a little.
He has also been avoiding looking at me and whenever he does, he clears his throat like a ruffian having cold flu.
"It's three minutes past twelve. Time to go to bed." He sighed getting up.
"No!" I yelled out suddenly as I shot up from the chair. He stopped walking and turned back to me perplexed by my sudden outburst.
"What happened?" He asked me with concern dripping from his eyes.
"Wait, I have something for you. Stay here, I'll come right away" I said hurriedly. I took the torch and ran into the woods to the place where Cacao has arranged the things I asked him to.
I heard Human sculpture shouting behind me to stop and get back but I have to get this to him.
Although dark and eerie, with the help of the torch in my hand, I found it soon. Pulling the large trolley with me, I walked back to the camp place.
The moment he saw me back, he ran to me with a very angry scowl etched on his face. He is raging like a bull on periods.
"Are you crazy? You can't just run off into woods like that. It's dangerous dammit." Yelling at me, he held my shoulders and turned me around as he scanned me worriedly.
"Don't ever do that." He gritted out furiously with a frown.
"Happy birthday."
"What?" His frown deepened as he looked at me in puzzlement.
"Happy Birthday, Human sculpture. It's thirteenth now and it's your birthday today." I smiled up at him and realization dawned unto him.
I hugged him tightly for a second and pulled the large trolley to him. "And this is your gift."
Human sculpture looked between me and the trolley of things that was covered by the large cloth. He sighed heavily before smiling a little.
"Thank you." He said hugging me back. He seems to be smiling frequently these days.
I love his smile.
Placing my chin on his chest, I looked up at him with a smile of my own. "Open the gift and see what I got for you."
Taking a step back, he pulled off the cover from the trolley and when he took a look at the gift I got him, he was both confused and surprised.
He breathed out a laugh of bafflement as he bent down to take a good look at it. He glanced back and me and my gift with an amused smile, "What is this?"
I moved around and picked up the first gift and put it gently in his hands. "A Chihuahua? Seriously?"
"This little guy suits you. He is the cutest thing I've ever seen." I clapped as the little dog snuggled in his arms. He barked at him happily and licked his hands before sleeping comfortably in his hands.
When I saw this dog in the internet, I decided my gift for his birthday.
"And this too." I picked two baby turtles of 4 inches and placed them on each of my palms. "The black one is a male and this, the greenish one is a female. Both for you." He placed the puppy down on its cushion and I placed the baby turtles on each of his palms.
He looked down at them as he held them gently. "Why turtles?"
"They have long life and look adorable." He smiled down at me as he rubbed his thumb on the turtle's shell.
"And there is more." I spoke a few minutes later when he is absorbed in adoring the puppy and the turtles.
"More? How do you even know it's my birthday anyway? I usually forget this day and don't care to celebrate it."
"I have my ways." I said and bent down to take his next gift. Pulling of the small cover that is concealing it, I lifted up two large cages.
One cage holding two colorful lovebirds that can talk and sing beautifully while the other holds five cockatiels of pearl, fallow, yellow, white and grey colors with three female and two male.
His eyes widened at the chirping birds as another laugh broke out from him. Not wasting any time, I opened the cage and let the birds free.
He watched me without a sound and watched how the birds flew out of the cage and came back to sit on his and my shoulders. The lovebirds each chose to occupy our head.
"They won't fly away. They are trained and will stay with you if they like you." The birds chirped in his ears as one of them bit his earlobe causing him to breath out yet another delightful laugh.
He likes them.
And they like him.
"Thank you. Thank you for such wonderful surprise although I don't know how to raise them. I never had a pet nor did I even think of getting one." He spoke putting all his focus on the birds on him.
"And," I said grinning from ear to ear.
"There's more?"
"One last one." I said as I bend down and pulled out the last gift. He narrowed his eyes on me when he saw it and raised a brow questioningly.
"A hair band?"
"Not just any hair band. It's a hair band with cat ears." I spoke as I put it on my head and cupped my face with my hands.
"Here you go. My last gift for you." I grinned widely as I put my head on his hands as though he is cupping it.
"An adorable Almond cat."
