Chapter Six: So Scarlet, it was Maroon
Emlyn woke up in the morning and saw Stella was still asleep, so she covered her with a blanket and went downstairs. Horrace, surprisingly wasn't on his throne, so Emlyn search around the castle for him till she found him in the wine cellar. There were hundreds of bottles of red wine with different variants; Horrace was holding two bottles debating on which to choose.
"Hey, Horrace," Emlyn said, announcing her presence, and Horrace jumped and turned, glancing at her.
"Good morning Emlyn; I didn't hear you come in. Did you sleep alright?" He asked her, and Emlyn sighed.
"Not really; I've been having nightmares." She replied, and he nodded and pulled out a cauldron. He began mixing ingredients, including one of the wines he selected.
"That's to be expected considering the circumstances." He said and waited till the caldron was simmering. He grabbed a wine glass and poured some of the liquid into the cup, and handed it to Emlyn, "drink this." He said as she took the cup.
The liquid was so scarlet; it was maroon. Emlyn drank the liquid and felt a piercing pain in her head. She knelt down on the ground holding the sides of her head, and whimpered. "What did you give me?!" She asked as flashes of memories began to go crazy in her mind, they were shuffled, and so fast she couldn't keep up.
"It'll fix your memories that Camilla took; however, the experience can be rather unpleasant." He replied with a sigh watching Emlyn suffer. Horrace poured himself a regular glass of wine and sat on the floor with Emlyn.
"Everything is shuffled, and it's moving so fast in mind I can't keep up; it's all jumbled and disorganized," Emlyn said; she was sitting on the floor with her legs stretched out, and her back and head rested against a wine shelf. She held her head and tried to breathe slowly.
"They'll sort out soon; just relax." He said and sighed, "so what is Camilla up to?"
"She has everyone turned against each other. Americana is overrun with demons, and she is overall out of control." Emlyn said, and Horrace nodded.
"How about Ginger?" He asked, and Emlyn glared.
"Being her faithful little servant, which by the way, thanks for being so "clear" about that warning of yours," Emlyn replied, and Horrace rubbed the back of his neck.
"My apologies on that; however, she is a demon and, therefore, easy to persuade. Consider making her an offer to join your side, one she cannot refuse." He suggested, and Emlyn nodded.
"Worth a shot, anything else that might help?" Emlyn asked, and Horrace nodded.
"Research the 7 deadly sins in the library in Americana, the New York City library. Take the elevator to the bottom floor; you'll know the book when you see it." He said, and Emlyn sighed.
"Alright, I hope it works." She replied, and he smiled.
"How's your head?" He asked, and Emlyn then realized her head had sorted itself out. Her memories had returned, and everything was fine.
"It's better now; how'd you do that?" She asked, and Horrace merely chuckled.
"Go round up your friends and save the world, Queen Emlyn," he said, and Emlyn was about to leave but stopped.
"Will I be coming back after I stop her?" She asked, and Horrace smiled.
"Not right away, but we will see each other again." He replied, and Emlyn left to gather her friends to go back.
Stella was just wandering down the stairs at this point and looked at Emlyn, who was approaching. "Oh hey, there you are. Everything okay?" Stella asked, and Emlyn nodded.
"Yes, everything's fine now, I think it's going to take some time to heal the emotional trauma of all this, but Horrace got my memories back." She replied, and Stella smiled.
"Good, let's get our friends and head back; there's no time to waste," Stella said, and the two of them headed off to find their friends.
