Chapter Ten: The King Of Greed
The Storytellers and Ginger walked into the second castle and were horrified by the mess. There was a clutter of thousands of items everywhere. "Well, I don't need you to tell me whose castle this is," Emlyn said, stepping over some things. She found the King of Greed on his throne, clutching stuff to his chest.
"Who are you? What do you want? These things are mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" He yelled at them, trying to pick up more stuff to keep away from them.
"Alright, listen, I'm Emlyn, Queen of the Fairytale Realm and Americana, and I have come for the jewels that work for the spell to open the portal to the underworld. Now, I know that seems like a lot to ask Mr. Greedy Pants, but I need them, so come on, let's be reasonable?" Emlyn said, and the King scoffed.
"Of course you do; well, if you want them, you got to find them. I know exactly where they are, but I'm not telling you! Search this castle far and wide; you'll never find them, and I'll never tell, but if you do, then take them and nothing else." The King said, and Emlyn sighed.
"Very well suit yourself." Emlyn said and turned to her friends with a sigh, "start looking." The group went off in separate directions. Emlyn couldn't believe the things she was finding; it was like someone took a landfill and dropped it in this castle.
She found it even more weird finding random pictures of other people, she assumed they must have gotten lost, and he took them. Emlyn picked up a photo album; it had a photo of the Goddess Aphrodite and what looked like a human man with fiery red hair, much like her own. She found after flipping through the album that the man's name was John.
In the last photo of the album, in the middle, was a picture of the two with three babies. The album appeared to have been lost after this, and Emlyn wondered what happened after. Emlyn tucked the photo album into her bag and figured she'd find out later. She wasn't particularly sure why she cared, but she was drawn to the two people.
"Emlyn!" She heard Stella call her and she rushed over, hoping she found the jewels, but then she was horrified.
"That's a lot of jewels..." Emlyn trailed off, staring at piles upon piles of thousands of jewels and gemstones. "I think Mr. Greedy Pants was right; we are never going to find it." Emlyn sighed.
"We will; the jewels are unique; they're color-coded and all the same shape," Mystic explained, and Emlyn nodded.
"Okay, what shape?" She asked, and Mystic chuckled.
"They are in a heptagon shape, a 7-point shape." She said, and Emlyn nodded.
"Great, that should be easy to find." She said and rolled her eyes as all of them began searching the piles of jewels.
"I found them!" Mystic said and picked up a box. Inside there were 7 jewels, heptagon shaped; the colors suited each sin. White for pride, purple for gluttony, blue for sloth, green for envy, yellow for greed, orange for wrath, and red for lust.
"Perfect, let's go," Emlyn said, but right before they exited, the King stopped them.
"You cannot leave; one of you has been greedy yourselves and taken something that you were not allowed to take." The King said, and Emlyn immediately knew he knew about the photo album.
"Bob, did you take something, idiot?" Sarah asked, putting her hands on her hips; he raised his hands defensively.
"It wasn't me." He said, and Emlyn sighed.
"It was me; I took a photo album." She admitted, and the King nodded.
"You may leave now." He said and sat back on his throne.
"You're letting me keep it?" Emlyn asked, and he nodded.
"First off, I have tons of random photos though that is not something I have a use for usually; secondly, I admire your honesty. Now, leave before I change my mind." He said, and the group turned and left the castle.
"Emlyn, I can't believe you tried to take something; why?" Stella asked, and Emlyn sighed and pulled out the photo album.
"I'm not really sure, to be honest; I just really feel like I need these photos of Aphrodite and some man named John and their last photo of three babies, okay? I don't know." She hugged the album to her chest, unsure of why she did most of the things she did anymore; perhaps this was the most human thing she'd ever done lately.
Stella placed a hand on her shoulder and smiled, "it's okay; we will figure out that later. For now, we have another castle to get to." She said and Emlyn put the photo back in her bag and led the way to the next castle.
