Revenge
In the dark of night, Jerald and Emilia crept towards Emberforge's Tower. With Jerald's knowledge of the guard positions as a Kingsguard, their approach was somewhat easier.
"What's your plan? How do you intend to kill Draken?" Jerald inquired.
"I don't need a plan," Emilia began, but Jerald cut her off.
"Yeah, I understand Draken won't attack you, but even if we assume he won't, how do you plan to reach his chamber?" Jerald pressed.
"I don't need a plan. I'll deal with anyone who stands in my way," Emilia asserted.
"You're underestimating the Emberforge family. They're one of the strongest in Elysium, known for their special element – Black Flames, flames that cannot be extinguished," Jerald warned.
"You mean like this?" Emilia retorted, conjuring a flame as dark as night from her palm.
"How? Who are you? Are you from the Emberforge House?" Jerald's curiosity peaked at the sight of the masked girl wielding Black Flames, a skill attributed only to the Emberforges.
"You ask a lot of questions," Emilia remarked, directing her flames towards Emberforge Tower.
"Are you out of your mind? Do you want to alert all of Elysium?" Jerald snapped.
Jerald produced a bag and retrieved a small lizard-like magical creature, no larger than his palm. "This is Kameleon, a rare magical creature," he explained, holding it close. "It has two special abilities: it can swallow a creature 100 times its size with its tongue, and once you're inside, its size remains the same, and you become undetectable."
"It seems you're quite the expert at sneaking," Emilia remarked.
"That was my job until now," Jerald admitted.
"So, this creature will swallow me, and you'll take it to Draken's chamber and release me inside Draken's chamber?" Emilia confirmed.
"Yes, but I'll only release you once it's just Draken in the chamber," Jerald clarified.
"The stories were right! You truly are kind, Jerald," Emilia acknowledged.
"I can't imagine who spreads rumors like that about me," Jerald quipped, pointing the Kameleon towards Emilia. "Are you ready?"
"Let's do this," Emilia affirmed.
With a swift motion, Kameleon enveloped Emilia with its massive tongue and swallowed her whole. True to Jerald's word, its size remained unchanged. Jerald placed the creature back in his bag and made his way towards Emberforge Tower.
As Jerald approached Draken's chamber, he encountered two guards barring his entry.
"Lord Draken has company," one of the guards informed him.
"Send him in," a voice from inside commanded, but it wasn't Draken's voice.
The guards opened the door, revealing Draken seated with Saint Carlos, a bald man adorned in a white robe, his face and head marred by burn marks. Carlos served the Icarus Dome, a temple dedicated to the God Icarus, one of the six gods legally worshipped in Elysium.
"Saint Carlos? Here at this hour?" Jerald questioned upon entering the room.
"I came to provide Lord Draken with this sacred food, hoping the blessing of our true God Icarus will grant him peaceful sleep without nightmares," Carlos explained.
"You're having nightmares again, Lord Draken?" Jerald inquired.
"Yes, they started a few weeks ago," Draken confirmed with a sigh.
"It must be due to the unrest caused by Jasper's execution," Carlos remarked. Turning to Jerald, he continued, "Do you think the decision to execute Jasper was right?"
"He killed a Celestial. It was a fitting punishment," Jerald replied promptly.
"But a public execution? Have they forgotten the Nagini incident? It took five years to rebuild the Nagini Dome, and now it has lost its charm, as if the goddess Nagini is angry with us," Carlos expressed his concern.
"Don't worry, Carlos. This won't be a repeat of Nagini. The Phoenixes are good warriors, true patriots. They would never do anything to harm Elysium," Draken reassured.
"He's right. Besides, Xavier isn't as reckless as Catlyn. No one is as reckless as her," Jerald added.
"That wench! She upset the balance of our world! Celestials were treated like gods before. If it were like before, Jasper wouldn't have just been executed; his entire family would have become our slaves. I myself would have raped his mother and sister till soul left their body" Carlos trailed off, seething with anger as he downed his drink.
A tense silence filled the room as Carlos and Jerald locked eyes, while Draken sat with his head in his hands.
"I really admire Catlyn. She made all the Celestials her bitch. Just hearing her name makes you guys piss yourselves. Too bad Xavier doesn't have the same courage," Jerald remarked casually.
Draken was taken aback by Jerald's audacity, while Carlos turned red with fury, his eyes bulging from their sockets.
"You mongrel!" Carlos spat, rising from his seat to confront Jerald.
"That's enough!" Draken intervened. "Saint Carlos, you've had enough to drink. I think it's time for you to leave."
"Are you going to sit there and listen to this brat?" Carlos protested.
"I'll handle him. Please leave," Draken ordered firmly.
"Did Nicklaus Mickelson cut off your balls too during your Pluton retrieval mission?" Carlos sneered before storming out of the chamber.
Draken rose from his seat and sighed.
"I apologize for my behavior, Lord Draken," Jerald apologized, standing as well.
"Don't worry. Carlos was out of line," Draken reassured, walking toward the window.
"I forgot to ask, what were you here for?" Draken turned back, only to find someone else standing behind Jerald.
Before Draken could utter a word, Emilia removed her mask and hoodie, revealing her striking appearance. Her short silver hair and sky-blue eyes left both Draken and Jerald stunned; there was no mistaking her Mickelson heritage.
"You're a Mickelson!" Jerald exclaimed, surprise evident on his face.
Draken, however, seemed unfazed now, almost as if he had anticipated what was to come. His expression turned surprisingly content as he took a seat.
"I'm glad to see you've survived. How did you manage to overcome my flames?" Draken inquired.
"I didn't," Emilia replied, extending her palm to conjure black flames.
"I see. You must have endured much," Draken remarked, a hint of sorrow in his tone.
"About eleven years. I've grown accustomed to it now," Emilia responded.
"Well, you must be here to kill me then, for what I've put you through," Draken surmised.
"Yes," Emilia confirmed.
"What will you do after that?" Draken pressed.
"Xavier is next, then Lucian, Marcus, and so on, until everyone who wronged me are dead," Emilia declared.
"Go ahead, kill me. I won't fight you because I know I'm in the wrong. But may I say something?" Draken asked.
Emilia drew her dagger and approached Draken, pointing it towards his heart.
"If you seek revenge, the wounds will always remain fresh, they'll never heal. So I hope I'll be your first and last..." Draken's words trailed off as the blade pressed against his heart, and he fell silent in death.
"Who said I want my wounds to heal? My wounds are a reminder of what I had, what I lost, and who took them from me. I don't want to forget," Emilia declared, her voice firm as she ignited Draken's body with black flames.
