THREE. CONTROL

Embera wasn't someone that would make friends easily, she didn't think of herself with high social skills. But sometimes she knew she had to put them into practice, one of those moments was this, Embera noticed the new Kree member sitting alone at the cafeteria, her face showed saddened eyes and quivering lip.

"Mind if I sit here?" Embera asked, looking down at the blonde, seeing her head nod gave her the invitation to do so. "I get it, it's a tough new life, but, Krees are here to help you, protect you even, so don't worry if you had a bad day, you'll make it through it one day at a time."

"Easy for you to say, you've been here longer than I have and I feel like this place is where I belong, I shouldn't be here." Vers added, her voice breaking just a bit when she said she shouldn't be here.

"Yeah, well, it never gets easier, it never really does, but life continues and sometimes, we just gotta be strong, never let your emotions get the best of you, cause if you do, that's troubling." Maybe she was saying too much but what she was telling Vers was useful information, things that even helped Embera go through.

Vers seemed surprised by the words Embera was telling her, the blonde cleaned her face, she straightened her posture, and glanced at the Kree sitting in front of her.

"You seem like someone with a kind heart, I'm sorry if I ask this, but mind if you remember me your name?" Vers turned her attention now at the redhead.

"Embera." She smiled weakly at Vers, seeing the stretched hand in front of her, she glanced down at it confused by the sudden action, her right hand carefully hiding behind her back, the small dagger resting gently there.

"You haven't shaken a hand before?" Vers pulled her hand back, tilting her gold locks to the side as she looked at her confused.  "That's odd, also I wanted to apologize for the attack last week, I didn't mean to harm you, I don't even know how it happened." Vers explained looking back at her hands, her body position straight forward.

"There's no need to apologize, you are here to learn and control your powers Vers, Yon-Rogg is the greatest superior we could have, very patient too." Embera said, clearing her throat she stood up and looked down at the blonde. "I better leave, I'll see you around Vers."

Embera left the room, returning to her own, she sat down on her bed and looked down at her hands, she focused her breath into her power, she was careful about it too, she only thought of the warm feeling on her fingertips, she ignored the sounds around her and only thought of the orange flame in her fingertips.

The heat came instantly, her green eyes looked down at her hands, a small flame formed in each of her fingertips, Embera gasped as she saw how the flame wasn't consuming her hand completely, the excitement started forming inside her, and all she could do was close her eyes and focus again.

"Breath, flames and hands." She whispered, visualizing the flame roaming through her hands, the heat travelled from her fingers to her palm and then her wrists. "Off." She said, visualizing peace, imagining her body completely calm and no heat, Embera opened her eyes glancing down at her dark-skin, the powerful color of the fire disappear slowly until it was gone.

Embera didn't know how this was even possible, she didn't know if she should be happy, scared or confused. She never had control over her powers like this, only to shut them off when her emotions took control over her body, but Embera calling her flame on and off, that was a first.

"Okay, let's try this again." Standing up, the redhead took another deep breath, her arms forward, her palm facing up. "Flame on." She whispered focusing on the sensation of heat in her fingertips, focusing in her breathing and visualizing the orange flame again.

Moving her hands down in a rapid movement she felt the warm familiar feeling, Embera looked down at her hands seeing how the flame only stopped until her wrists. She could've screamed of excitement right there, but she didn't, instead she tried something else, focusing to bring the flame up to her elbow, she looked at her fingertips, the heat getting stronger as it travelled up to her elbows. She could feel it all over he body but she had controlled where she wanted the fire to stop, and with another focusing breath, the flame lowered down her arms and vanished again.

"Oh my god." Embera smiled to herself, she couldn't believe her eyes, she had controlled her powers, she could be ready for battles, she knew she could accomplish what she always wanted, she could prove Supreme Intelligence that she was ready.

Opening the door of her room, she hurried to Yon-Rogg's room, knocking a few times until the door opened, the familiar glance and smile on the man's face greeted the woman.

"I have to show you something." She exclaimed and walked inside, ignoring completely the state of her superior, the Kree looked as if he just got out of the shower and only had time to put on some pants, his hair dripped water and he smelled just like soap.

"Embera, something better be important, it is late for you to be awake—" Yon-Rogg had been interrupted by the image of Embera's hands flaming, his eyes widened as he watched her, her hands were only burning with fire, not her complete body like it has done many times before.

"I learned how to control my fire." Embera smiled, her cheeks hurting from the pressure she was putting on them. "I can control this Yon-Rogg, right now I am extremely excited and happy and look, I have control over them."

Yon-Rogg could've smiled at least, but all he did was fix his posture and opened the door of his room, stepping aside waiting for Embera to walk out.

"Meet me in the training grounds, we will see if you can really control those powers." He said avoiding her eyes and closing the door again. Not thinking too much about it Embera rushed to the training room, she paced from one side of the room to another, the nerves kicking in. "So show me." Yon-Rogg's voice was screamed out when he entered the room.

Embera straightened her posture, her hands spread out beside her legs, closing her eyes she focused on the familiar warm feeling, her thoughts focusing on what made her happy. "Flame on." Whispering to herself she felt the hot rush on her hands up to her arms reaching below her elbow, opening her eyes she noticed the hint of surprise from Yon-Rogg's face.

"I told you." Embera grinned at him, closing her eyes she focused on letting the heat take over her arms completely.

"What happens when you have fire all over your body Embera?" Yon-Rogg asked his voice closer to her. "Have you learned how to control that?"

Embera hadn't let the flame overpower her full capacity, that, she was terrified of. But she knew she could do it, with her eyes still closed she focused on letting the warm feeing start from below her feet, letting it travel through her legs and waist, she knew she was doing it, she could feel the heat.

"Embera, don't continue." A familiar faint voice called inside her head, her sister. "It's dangerous, they will use it for their advantage." Embera shook her head trying to ignore the words of her sister.

"Stop, I can do this." She whispered trying to regain her focus on the heat that was already powering over her chest. "I got this." Opening her eyes she noticed how her body was flaming, her hair glowed in pink and blue tones and Yon-Rogg was still standing at the entrance of the room.

With a smirk on her face she turned around, her hands turned into fists, throwing a fireball directly at a punching bag that hung from a corner of the training grounds, lowering her arm and letting the flames around her dissolve, coming back into her normal form, her clothes not showing any effect of the flames.

"Looks like you know what you're doing now Embera, we just need to train your emotions, let's be sure no comment gets to you." Yon-Rogg let a small applause after her words. "Well done Embera, your sister would be very proud of you for this achievement."

Embera smiled at that, she felt proud of herself, she knew she had it in her, controlling her powers would be easy and her emotions too, she only had to focus on her breathing, focus on what brings her peace.
