TWO. TRAINING GROUNDS
Embera wasn't ready for another full day of training, even though she didn't want this day to happen, she was prepared, the red-head Kree was sitting in the corner of her bed waiting for Yon-Rogg to knock on her door. Her boots tapped rapidly against the floor, she could feel the jitters going crazy, standing up, Embera paced side to side in her room, seconds turned to minutes and those into an hour.
"What is taking so long?" As if her question was heard, there was the loud knock coming from the other side of the door. Embera rushed over to open the metallic door, her eyes looked at Yon-Rogg for only a second, it was the other person standing next to him that really got her attention.
"Embera, you know that Vers is joining our training, she's up and she's ready to learn." Yon-Rogg didn't add anything else, he just walked away, Vers followed along, her brown hazelnut eyes looked every aspect of the place, this was her first time and Embera imagined that in any moment Vers would ask a question of how things worked here, but, she didn't, she stayed quiet. Just like she did the first time she came here. She stayed quiet.
The training grounds were filled by Kree warriors with their responsible teachers, the scent of sweat was too strong that Embera couldn't help but make a facial expression. Loud groans and bodies hitting the floor were like music to Yon-Rogg's ears, he even smiled at every single body that hit the mat.
"First thing in training, Vers," Yon-Rogg explained setting down his training jacket on a bench, Embera just watched how Vers rapidly focused on him. "We need to focus on our enemies, study their movements, from head to toe, that is what really gives us a head start on what their next move can be." Yon-Rogg motioned Embera to stand in front of him.
No warning or anything like that, Embera got swiped off the ground and a small pain behind her legs started pulsating. Yon-Rogg stretched his hand over to Embera, the red-head looked at him and instead on trusting him, she passed her own leg under his, the warrior lost balance, it was now his turn to fall to the ground. Embera stood up, swiping off her uniform.
"And that can go both ways Vers, don't be scared to try and knock him off his balance." Now it was Embera who tried to help Yon-Rogg get up in position, the soldier just chuckled at the student when he stood up.
"Exactly, she knows, never let your guard down, you fall down, you better stand up, fight, protect yourself." Yon-Rogg cleared his throat, straightened his posture. "Now, we start your training." Both female warriors looked at each other, standing face to face, Embera could see the cheeky smirk from the blonde, both of her arms up, her hands gripped tightly into fists.
Vers groaned as she tried to throw the first punch, Embera was quick to duck left, her arm twirling to hit Vers arm and push it down. Whatever she was doing was stupid, she didn't even try to work out before hand, her body would be so sore the next day, Embera knew this, but Yon-Rogg didn't even stop the fight, he stood there, watching them with arms crossed over his chest.
"You're thinking too much Vers, don't do it." Embera threw a punch, Vers doing her best to avoid it, she miscalculated, getting the exact punch in her left cheek.
Vers fell on her knee, an angry shout was let out off her, her hands glowing yellow, the blonde threw another punch, but this time the burst of energy was the responsible for Embera to fly back and hit the wall with such power, the loud thud of her body and the floor made every other Kree stop their training to turn and see Vers. Embera slowly tried to stand up, but the pain traveling through her body made it difficult, cough after cough, her green eyes looked at the newbie.
"What the hell are you?" She asked, hugging her torso. Vers didn't know what to say, she just apologized at the other, she just kept looking at her hands and what had just happened. Yon-Rogg was cautious when he took his steps towards the blonde, with both hands up he kneeled beside her.
"You're okay Vers, get up, we're taking you somewhere else." Helping her up, the warrior looked over at Embera "Someone help her, take her to the infirmary."
Embera was helped by someone she didn't recognize, they were cautious too in getting her on her feet and walking with her to the room. The nurse checked on her, just a few bruises would appear, the energy blast didn't harm her, there were no signs of burned skin or broken bones, she was okay.
"Rest up Embera, I'll notify Yon-Rogg that no more combat with Vers until she learns how to control those energy blasts." The nurse said and let the girl leave.
Embera didn't plan to go straight to her room, surprisingly, she wanted to check on Vers, she knew how she might be feeling, she was once in her shoes, she didn't mean to say what were you, it was in the heat of pain and moment. Her steps echoed around the hall, her eyes looked through every small window from each door, she had to find Vers, let her know at least that she was okay, ask if she wanted to talk about it.
"Embera, go back to your room." Her superior voice was heard behind her. "Vers will be locked in her room until tomorrow, she will train with me, go to your room and wait."
"Is she okay? I know I can help her, I've been in her place Yon-Rogg." Embera turned around and looked at him, her face soften as her mind thought of how scared Vers could be right now.
"That's what we don't want Embera, we don't want you to interfere, she had already attack you when she got angry, if she gets scared or worried while you're in there, the consequences could be even worse." She hated that he had a point. "We don't want that? Don't we?"
"No sir, but is it too much to ask tomorrow how is she doing? Get an update?" Embera looked at her superior nod at her. "I'll be in my room, until further notice." She walked past him, the feeling of being watched was too heavy, she couldn't take a shortcut, unless she wanted to break the rule and end up being locked up too, she had to remember to not follow her feelings but instead follow her logic.
And sadly, that was what Vers was going to learn. You shall not follow your emotions, unless you were ready to suffer the consequences. Embera did feel a bit of sympathy for the Kree, she was new, she had no idea of what she was doing wrong, but shaking those emotions away, Embera tried to be cold to this situation happening. She had to be.
