Lilith never disliked karate. Sure, she'd feel like shit afterwards on some days, but she always loved it.
Today was on of the first time Lilith regretted showing up to class.
Just as class started, Daniel LaRusso came bursting through the doors claiming saying Sensei Lawrence and the rest of Cobra Kai trashed Miyagi-Do. After arguing back and forth with Johnny for a couple minutes, Daniel stomped out of the dojo, six Cobra Kai members trailing out behind him.
And even though Lilith wasn't the one who trashed Miyagi-Do, she and the rest of the team had to pay the price.
Lilith doesn't even know how long she's been doing burpees. She lost could after she hit 75, which was at least 10 minutes ago. Her arms felt like jelly and she was sure her legs would give out on her at any moment. She worked in between Miguel and Tory, her eyes trialed on her Sensei that paced their row back and forth.
"You all know I'm no fan of LaRusso's, but that sort of bullshit we don't teach in here. At least not anymore. So, who trashed Miyagi-Do?" Johnny's voice practically shook the walls of the dojo from how loud he yelled and it made Lilith's stomach churn.
At the end of her line, Raymond was just about ready to pass out and honestly, Lilith was too.
"It was not me, Sensei. I would never disrespect another man's dojo." The man said completely out of breath. Johnny looked Raymond up and down and scoffed as he started to walk back down the row again. "Shut your cake hole, Chubs. I'm not looking for excuses. I'm looking for answers."
Johnny looked away from Raymond and his eyes instinctively moved to his top 6 students. Only today, there was only five of them there. Johnnys eyebrows furrowed and he made a beeline to Lilith.
"England!"
Lilith flinched at the man's yell. As Johnny walked up to her, he raised a hand, silently telling her she could stop her burpees while he spoke to her. When Lilith finally stopped her exercises, Johnny gave her about five seconds to compose herself before he spoke to her.
"Where the hell is Greene?" Johnny asked, his voice quieter than it had been for the past half hour. He looked back down the front row of students to make sure his eyes just didn't miss Jake, but he was right. The boy wasn't there.
When Johnny looked back to Lilith, she had her hands on her hips as she struggled to catch her breath still. "Family emergency. He said he sent you an email on the drive." Lilith said through her deep breaths, looking up at Johnny with a confused squint.
Johnny was about to pester Lilith more about the situation even though she didn't know anything else after that, but before he could, his phone vibrated in his pocket. He rolled his eyes to himself and stepped away from Lilith, waving his hand around.
"You know what? I don't care." He grumbled as he pulled out his phone. When his eyes landed on the caller ID, he looked up to the class and waved his hand around. "Two minute break!"
...
Jake hated hospitals.
He's hated them since he was seven and got appendicitis and needed to stay overnight and get surgery.
So being at a hospital because you had to drive someone who was like an uncle to you to the hospital early in the morning was hard on him. Jake had been there for the past He felt dizzy and sick to his stomach. He could barely hold down saliva without feeling ready to hurl.
Jake knew it was nerves and tried to ignore it only for it to get worse when he got his dad's friend, his Uncle Tommy's, lunch. If Jake didn't feel sick before, he definitely felt sick now looking down at the food in his hands. He would hardly even consider it food.
His eyes were glued onto the tray in his hands as he walked back into his Uncle Tommy's hospital room, not wanting to spill it. Jake could hear Tommy talking to someone as he got closer to the hospital room, but Jake figured it was probably his Godfather, Bobby since he had called him on the drive up to the hospital.
"I got you your lunch. It kinda looks like shit." Jake giggled more to himself than Tommy.
He finally looked up to put the tray down by Tommy's bedside and his eyes widened at who was in the room with the two of them. It definitely wasn't Bobby.
Jake stared at his sensei like he was a ghost and Johnny stared right back at him with furrowed eyebrows and a scrunched face. "Greene? The hell you doing here?"
From the hospital bed, Tommy's face twisted in confusion. He looked up at Johnny and raised his left hand to gesture to Jake. "He's Dutch's kid? Jacob?" Tommy told Johnny as if to knock some sense into him. Tommy looked back to Jake and smiled softly at the boy. "He's the one that drove me up here."
When Jake was little, his dad used to drag him to his friends houses, the four of them drinking while Jake watched tv, swam in the pool if they were at Bobby's house, or hung out with Jimmy's kids. But after his dad got arrested for the umpteenth time, Jake stopped really hanging out with his dad's friends. He hadn't heard from Johnny or Jimmy in years. He only really spoke to Bobby and Tommy.
Which was why neither Jake or Johnny could pinpoint why they recognized the other. The last time Johnny saw Jake, the boy was young and the last time Jake saw Johnny... well, Johnny was doing pretty shitty.
Johnny's eyes trailed over Jake's entire face. Now that he knew how he knew the kid, he could finally see the little boy the Dutch dragged around.
"Little Jacob? You changed your last name?" Johnny whispered in astonishment while Jake only rolled his eyes at being called his real name.
"No one's called me Jacob since before my dad got arrested. And I took my mom's last name after... everything." Jake muttered, his voice lower and quieter than Johnny's ever really heard it. At least while Jake's been his student. Johnny could tell Jake didn't really want to fight him on his name. Plus, before today, Johnny only knew Jake as "Jake" or "Greene" so he didn't push any further.
"Oh, I see they already got me a priest." Tommy teased, drawing Jake and Johnny out of their conversation and to the door.
Jake smiled at Bobby as he walked into the room, the man rolling his eyes and holding back a chuckle at Tommy's comment.
"I'm a pastor, Tommy. But if you wanna confess about that 50 bucks you still owe me, the Big Guy's listening." Bobby joked back, pointing up to the ceiling as he moved to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jake.
Bobby turned to the boy and wrapped his arm around his shoulders and shook them, smiling to Jake. "Hey, kid. How was the drive in?" Bobby hummed and Jake moved around so they could properly hug, smiling into Bobby's shoulder. "Good. Not too much traffic."
Watching Jake and Bobby interact, his eyes widened and he smiled at the two of them. A small chuckle left his lips as he pointed between the two of them.
"Oh, yeah... Dutch made you his godfather!" Johnny laughed out. He remembered when Dutch and him told the rest of the group were expecting and they tried to decide who would get who as their kids godfathers. While Johnny chose Tommy to be Robby's godfathers, Dutch chose Bobby for Jake.
Suddenly, Johnnys face paled and he leaned closer to Bobby as if Jake was standing right beside him. "You know he's gay, right?" Johnny asked in a quiet whisper, not so casually pointing to Jake. His eyebrows raised toward Bobby. "How does the Big Guy feel about that?"
Jake looked at Johnny like the man had three heads and Bobby just chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "The Big Guy's fine with it. And so am I. As long as the kid's happy." Bobby hummed happily, squeezing Jake's shoulder with his hand that was still wrapped around the boy.
"How do you feel about it?" Jake asked Johnny, raising his eyebrows accusingly to the blonde.
Immediately, Johnny stepped back and raised his hands in surrender. "I'm fine with it. Support it. Full support." Johnny quickly defended himself, raising a fist to show his support, earning an eye roll from Jake.
Suddenly, another pair of footsteps walked into the room and Jake's head turned to walk Jimmy walk in, on a call with his phone pressed between his ear and shoulder.
"Yes, hon. I know. All right. I love you, too." Jimmy said quickly, smiling tot he four in the room as he placed his fruit basket for Tommy down on one of the guest chairs. He grabbed his phone from off his shoulder and turned his back to the others. "All right, gotta go. Bye."
When he hung up, Jimmy turned back to the group and smiled, immediately going for a hug with Johnny. "Hey, sorry I'm late." As he went around the room for hugs, Jimmy smiled tot Tommy. "Jenny and the kids send their love." He told the man, making Tommy give him a small smile back and a nod.
But his smile left just as fast as it came onto his face when his nurse walked into the room. He sighed, giving the woman a tight lipped smile. "Oh, you again." He grumbled, making the nurse chuckle as she walked toward his bed. Tommy turned to the group and nodded his head toward the hallway. "Guys, give me a minute."
The four of them all respected Tommy's wish, nodding their heads before walking out of the hospital room one by one. Jake was the last of them out and blindly followed the three men down the hall.
Once they were about ten feet away from the door, Bobby and Jimmy turned around to face Jake and Johnny, forming a small huddle.
"Okay, I spoke with the doc before I came in. He can sign out for 24 hours, but I don't know. Is he gonna even be able to make it to the car?" Jimmy whispered as he looked between Jake, Johnny, and Bobby.
Jake and Johnny's eyebrows furrowed at that, neither of them knowing what Jimmy was talking about.
"What are you talking about?" Johnny asked while Jake nodded in a silent confusion beside him. Jimmy looked between the two, his mouth opening and closing to come up with the right words before he turned to Bobby, squinting at the man. "You didn't tell them?"
Bobby sighed, looking to Jake and Johnny. He took a small step toward them, looking around the hallway to make sure no one was listening before leaning closer to the two to make sure no one could eavesdrop. "Look, we can't let Tommy rot in this place. He deserves better." He whispered and Jake and Johnny nodded in agreement.
Jake turned to Jimmy, his eyebrows raising in interest. "What did you guys have in mind?" He asked and Bobby immediately smiled, his hands out as if to show off his amazing idea.
"Road trip. Give the guy a wild night to remember." Bobby said in a whispered cheer, clasping his hands together proudly.
Johnny winced at the idea. He looked back to Tommy's room before turning back to Tommy, shaking his head. "I don't know, man, in his condition—"
His words were cut off by a loud scoff from Jake, making everyone turn to him. "Oh, please! He was asking me to take him to Monterey Bay instead of this place. That's a five hour drive!" Jake whispered aggressively, shaking his head as he waved Johnny off. "He'll be fine!"
A loud beep from Tommy's room made everyone freeze. Jake was sure he felt his heart drop all the way to his feet at the thought of Tommy's heart stopping. He was the first one to run to the room and the first one to get inside.
Jake felt air make its way into his lungs again when he saw Tommy unplugging himself from all of the hospitals machines. Jake turned to the three men who were just now making it to the doorway of Tommy's room and he smiled, gesturing to the man getting out of the hospital bed all on his
"See?" Jake hummed happily as if he wasn't just about to have a panic attack five seconds ago at the thought of Tommy dying.
Jake turned back to Tommy and met him in the middle of the room to spot him. Tommy muttered a small "thanks" to Jake before he turned back to his three friends still in the doorway.
"Let's get the hell out of here."
...
"You think it's okay if I puke in here?"
The team was now in the back room of the dojo, using all the equipment they had. No one had admitted to teaching the dojo yet and at this rate, Lilith was sure no one would speak up now because even if it'd get them to stop with these insane exercises, all of the students would probably jump whoever did it for taking so long to speak up and making them all pay the price.
Lilith's head snapped to her right so fast, she was shocked she didn't get a head rush or crack her neck.
She glared daggers at Raymond from the other side of Aisha, shaking her head. "No." Lilith spat, her voice low and frankly, scary to a majority of the room.
Raymond shook his head at Lilith's answer, looking just about ready to pass out, puke, or both at any second. He continued to work on his exercises, but frowned to Lilith. "Navy Seals puke all the time." He panted, making Aisha turn to glare at him as well.
"Do not puke!" She mad Lilith screamed at the same time.
Raymond let out a small cry before turning all of his attention back to his equipment.
Lilith watched the man for a few seconds, making sure he didn't throw up and after about five seconds of watching the grown man like a hawk, she sighed and turned to Miguel and Tory on her left.
"He's not gonna let up. We gotta figure out who did it." Lilith told them and Tory and Miguel immediately nodded in agreement.
Tory looked around the room and when her eyes landed on Mitch standing in the row just behind them, she turned back to Miguel and Lilith. "I bet it was Shit Breath." Tory spat, nodding her head to the boy not so subtly.
Since Tory didn't really try to hide that she was talking about Mitch, the boy through his equipment on the ground and pointed at Tory. "Hey, screw you!" He yelled and Lilith's eyebrows shot up so far, they practically touched her hairline.
"What did you just say?" Lilith yelled, dropping her things and stepping right up to Mitch's face. Everyone that wasn't listening in on the conversation already, turned to Lilith and Mitch with either nervous or amused looks.
Before the dispute could go any further and knowing Lilith would take it that step forward, Kreese stepped in. "Stop!" He screamed, making everyone snap their heads back to him.
Once everyone's attention was on him, Kreese smiled, holding tightly onto the collar of his gi. "Would you really like to know who did it?" Kreese asked and his smile quickly turned into a smirk when he saw the way everyone in the room perk up while five students shriveled up into themselves.
Without missing a beat, Kreese turned his head to Hawk and he raised his hand to gesture to the boy.
"It was Hawk."
Lilith's face fell as she turned to look to Hawk. Her eyes softened as she watched the boy curl into himself as all the eyes in the room turned to him. Even if he was the one to trash the dojo, Lilith didn't like seeing Hawk get that same anxiety and insecurities he used to have as Eli.
"And it was Diaz."
That caught Lilith's attention.
Not because she thought Miguel did it, but because she was with Miguel all night last night. There was no way he did it.
While everyone in the room turned to Miguel, he and Lilith both turned to Kreese furrowed eyebrows and confused looks. Kreese only smiled back at the two of them, nodding his head to Lilith.
"And Beaumont..." He added before he started to look around the entire room. "Robinson. And it was Nichols, Chubs, Red. I don't know where Greene is, but him too."
Kreese shoved his hands into the pockets of his gi and held his head higher. He rolled his shoulders back to look taller, stronger and huffed. "When one of you makes a move, you all make a move. You live and you die with the consequences and the spoils because you are all Cobra Kai."
