Landry Hightower walked the halls of the Red Keep trying to find her sister, she was sent by her father stating that He needed Alicent, Landry obeyed like she always did but she couldn't help but wish to be required by their father too. Landry knows that she doesn't focus on things Otto Hightower would like her to, she would rather be in the gardens than tend to the Queen Consort, luckily Otto stopped asking.
Landry stops walking suddenly as she sees beautiful flowers that are in the royal garden. She quickly looks for the steps leading down and grins when she sees them not too far away, she picks up the edges of her dress and takes off running down the stairs, she's lucky that no one is around, busy tending to the heavily pregnant consort or else she would be getting stared at and they would surely tell her father. Once she reached the flowers she was interested in she ran her fingers over the delicate petals, feeling the softness under her fingertips.
She was about to kneel to smell them when a voice stopped her. "Landry." Landry's blood runs cold for a second before she turns around to see Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen with her eldest sister behind her looking amused. "Princess." Landry bowed in front of the Princess getting a slight snort out of her. "What are you doing out here?" Alicent pipes up rubbing her fingers where her cuticles would be if she hadn't bitten them off, it's a nasty habit that Landry tried to get Alicent to stop but she hasn't been successful. "Father wanted me to come to find you, he needs you. But when I saw these flowers I just had to see them." Landry glanced down at the flowers with a glance of a smile.
Alicent lets out a slight sigh before glancing at Rhaenyra regretfully. "Go, see what your Father needs. Landry will keep me company, won't you?" Rhaenyra looks at Landry in a way that makes her stomach flop, she tries to say something but nothing comes out so instead she quickly nods. Alicent leaves with a soft smile to both Landry and Rhaenyra, then the two of them lapsed into comfortable silence until Rhaenyra winded her arm through Landry's and started to walk them through the garden. "Can I ask, what do you like about flowers? I just don't get the appeal." Rhaenyra looks at Landry apologetically but Landry laughs before looking at Rhaenyra in slight fear. "You can be yourself around me, Alicent is," Rhaenyra reassured Landry, which made her relax slightly, Otto had instilled in all the Hightower children that around royalty you should not laugh nor crack a smile, anything that could be considered an insult by the family, it was refreshing for Landry to see that Rhaenyra wasn't like that.
"I like flowers because they can't judge, I'm always told that I'm odd, that I wasn't raised right because I much prefer the garden to people, but flowers can't do that," Landry spoke honestly, she was shocked that only a little bit around Rhaenyra and she has already told the Princess something she's only told Alicent. "You are right about that, I also know a thing or two about being judged. You know people don't think a queen should take the Iron Throne." Rhaenyra licked her lips before looking towards the tree that was in the corner of the garden. "That's what I think the Iron Throne needs, is a Queen." Landry softly said she was almost hoping that Rhaenyra didn't hear her but that proved wrong when a smile graced her lips.
Landry frowned in confusion when Rhaenyra pulled her arm out from where it was wrapped with Landry's, Rhaenyra walked towards a row of pretty pink flowers before picking one granting a slight gasp from Landry. The Princess walked back toward where Landry was standing and held the flower up to Landry's eye line. "May I?" Rhaenyra asked softly gesturing towards Landry's ear, she was shocked so she did the only thing she could do at that moment, which was nod.
"It suits you," Rhaenyra stated before she walked towards the tree and sat down in the grass. Landry was stunned, she didn't know what to do. She didn't know if she was permitted to do the same but when Rhaenyra noticed that Landry wasn't next to her she patted the spot next to her, which gave Landry her answer. She didn't know what was happening, Landry has dreamed of moments like this with Rhaenyra but she never acted on her sinful thoughts.
She had a hunch that Rhaenyra and Alicent had done something but when Landry tried to ask about it Alicent had warned her accusation could be treason, so Landry let it go but Landry knew what Rhaenyra was doing, she was flirting and Landry wanted nothing more than to flirt but it wasn't safe to do it in Godswood like this. Landry looked at her hands which were resting in her lap, she couldn't believe she was sitting in Godswood having a conversation with the Princess, every time Landry would try to say something in the past her stomach clench up and nothing would come out. One day Landry made the mistake of telling her Father this, which prompted him to tell her to get over herself because she was making a fool of herself, so she kept those feelings to herself.
But she was, sitting next to Rhaenyra, and she felt normal. She glanced at her and watched as the sun's rays danced across her face, like always the future Queen of the Iron Throne was beautiful.
