Chapter 14 : In Too Deep
"JingYu can you keep it down?" Weizhou begged.
"What were you thinking??" JingYu fumed.
After the call with his mother JingYu found himself rushing to his boyfriend's place. They were now in Weizhou's room and JingYu had begun confronting him.
"Just let me explain.." Weizhou requested closing the door.
"So that's where you went yesterday?!"
Weizhou's mouth opened but words did not come out.
"You lied to me?" JingYu's eyes widened even further.
"I...I was going to tell you-"
"This is unbelievable!" JingYu said pacing around the room.
"I'm sorry for telling her about the studio, I didn't think it's a big deal."
"This is not about the freakin' studio! Why'd you go there???" JingYu's glare was intimidating.
"I...I wanted to know stuff...about you.." Weizhou answered nervously.
"What stuff?? You wanted to do a background check to see if I'm good enough??" JingYu accused.
"What the hell JingYu?!" Weizhou's tone finally reached JingYu's pitch.
"Then what?!"
There was a knock on the door suddenly. "Is everything okay in there?" asked Mrs.Xu's voice.
Weizhou threw JingYu a cold stare. "Yes mom." He answered. "Can you at least try to calm down?" He said to JingYu in a low voice.
JingYu inhaled sharply. "ZhouZhou...what stuff did you need to know?" He repeated. His question was like the calm before the storm.
"I don't know!" Weizhou started letting out his frustration. "Anything! Everything! I wanted to try to figure out why you're like this.."
"Like what?" JingYu's voice was bone numbingly low.
Weizhou's lips curved downwards.
"Am I not good enough? ...I know I should've taken the hint.."
Unable to handle what he was hearing, Weizhou started shaking his head. "JingYu...you have no idea what you mean to me..".
JingYu merely watched him as if he was not convinced.
"I'm sorry if I crossed a line.." Weizhou's voice wavered.
"You shouldn't have gone behind my back and done this.. How can I trust you after this?" JingYu's tone was unforgiving.
"I did it because you're not fucking letting me in! And don't give me that not wanting to burden me with your issues bullshit again!"
"If you wanted to know things, you should've just asked me!" JingYu blurted out.
"Oh my God! How many times have I asked? Can you look me in the eye and say that I didn't ever ask you directly ha?" Weizhou challenged.
JingYu could not argue with that. "I told you I'd tell you things in my own time.."
Weizhou kept blinking as his eyes welled up with tears.. "How long were you going to keep me waiting..? I tell you everything about me... I've given all of myself to you baby, and I don't regret any of it one bit."
One part of JingYu badly wanted to cradle his boy in his arms, but the part that was still furious fought against it. "If you had wanted me to wait for you to tell things when you were ready, I would have done it without complaining.."
"Oh really? The same way you patiently waited for me to end my previous relationship and come to you in my own time?" Weizhou retorted.
JingYu's glared angrily. "If I hadn't pursued you the way I did, you'd still be with him!"
Weizhu gritted his teeth. "That's bullshit! In case you forgot, I kissed you first!"
"Only because I kept pursuing you like a mad dog!" JingYu took a step forward.
Weizhou could not respond this time.
"I only wish I'd done it more relentlessly!" JingYu added.
"Even if I didn't want you to?" Weizhou asked angrily.
"Yes! Even then!"
"Wow ...I love hypocrisy." Weizhou scoffed.
JingYu only glared at him for a moment before starting to walk away.
"JingYu!"
JingYu did not stop. Weizhou rushed after him as he made his way out of his room and towards the front door.
"JingYu wait!" Weizhou exclaimed more angrily than he intended to while Mrs.Xu watched with widened eyes.
JingYu's steps did not falter even for a second nor did he turn to look at Weizhou.
Weizhou watched him retreat, with grief stricken eyes.
"What just happened?" He heard her mother ask behind him.
Weizhou gritted his teeth without answering.
"Did you two break up?"
This time Weizhou turned to face her. "No mother! Don't get your hopes up so fast." He snapped.
As soon as he walked into his room and closed the door shut, he felt awful about taking it out on his mother.
********
JingYu did not contact Weizhou again for the rest of the day.
Next day, needing to blow off some steam Weizhou made plans to head out with Wang. However when they met up at his place, Kim and Liang were there as well.
"Is it okay if they tag along?" Wang asked him in a hushed voice.
Too emotionally exhausted to give it further thought, Weizhou simply nodded. "What did you tell them?"
"Erm..nothing really. Just that we're going out."
"Okay.." Weizhou answered as Liang approached him.
It wasn't until he was right in front him that Weizhou noticed the guitar in his hand.
"You brought it here?" Weizhou asked in surprise.
'Yeah.. thought it'd cheer you up.." Liang smiled.
"Cheer me up?" Weizhou couldn't help looking questioningly at Wang afterwards.
Busted. Wang thought, averting Weizhou's eyes.
Oblivious to Weizhou's reaction, Liang continued. "You can borrow it for a while if you want.."
Weizhou found it funny how, the guitar that had him mesmerized only the previous day could not stir the same level of excitement in him on this day. To top it all off, it bothered him to no end that Wang had taken the liberty to disclose personal things he shared with him.
"Thanks man, but...um...I barely practice these days.." Weizhou answered.
They both knew it was a lie.
Weizhou turned to Wang and put an arm around his shoulder. "Can we talk?" He asked quietly.
Wang knew this was coming. Weizhou led him to the kitchen.
"Dude what the hell?" Weizhou asked angrily once they were out of other two boys' earshot.
"I only told them that you were upset. I didn't mention that you and JingYu had a fight!"
"They are capable of putting two and two together,. It's not exactly rocket science!"
Wang guiltily looked away.
"Sorry for not being thrilled about the ex I dumped knowing that I'm having problems in my relationship." Weizhou paced back and forth. "In fact, why is he here?"
"Well Kim was here and when I mentioned about going out he ended up inviting Li as well." Wang slowly explained.
"You and Kim are that close?" Weizhou could not help asking.
Wang nodded. "We are now.."
Weizhou knew it was petty but there was a trace of jealousy in his heart. He felt like he had been replaced. "Guess I shouldn't have bothered you with my problems. You clearly have new friends to spend time with."
Wang scrunched his eyebrows. "Hey that's not fair! Ever since you got together with JingYu, you've barely had time to hangout. And even when we do, all you talk about is him. Even today, the reason you wanna hangout is because of something that happened with him."
This time Weizhou could not respond.
Wang continued. "I get that when you're in a relationship you have a limited amount of time for friends, but it was never like this before.." he stopped there.
"Before?" Weizhou asked despite knowing what he meant.
Wang stayed quiet.
"Wang...You need to understand that this relationship is different. It's nothing like what I had with Li." Weizhou attempted to explain.
"Oh trust me I can see that."
Weizhou did not like the tone in which Wang said that. "What do you mean by that?"
"Come on Zhou, you know what I mean.."
"No tell me!"
Wang took a deep breath. "You're constantly either worried or upset. That's a big difference between this relationship and the previous one, that I've come to notice.."
Weizhou took a moment to calm down. "That's because I'm deeply invested in this relationship."
A sudden clatter startled the two boys.
They turned to see Liang swiftly walking out. He had accidentally knocked down an item on the kitchen counter after overhearing the last bit of their conversation when he had entered the kitchen.
Weizhou and Wang looked at each other in horror.
"You think he heard?" Wang asked.
Weizhou scowled at him before leaving to follow Liang.
_______
"Why did Li just leave??" Kim asked as Weizhou and Wang made their way to the living room.
Wang's head turned towards Weizhou.
"Why are you looking at me?!" Weizhou barked. "This is all your fault."
Weizhou quickly walked out the door to find Liang.
He made his way towards the street where Liang's house was, but as soon as he turned a corner he ended up bumping into someone else.
It turned out to be his boyfriend who had not contacted him still.
They stared at each other for a moment.
"Where are you rushing off to?" JingYu questioned with a blank expression.
"I could ask you the same thing." Weizhou shot back.
JingYu simply stared at him.
"Fine, don't answer. As for me, I'm going to see Liang to apologize for something." Weizhou said boldly. "I don't keep secrets from you JingYu. Again I'm sorry for meeting your mother without your knowledge. I was anyway planning to tell you about it this week."
JingYu's expression was unreadable. "So you two have been talking." He acknowledged rather than asking.
"Wha- who?"
"The one you're going to meet now. " JingYu stared at him coldly.
"Wow that's all you gathered from my answer?" Weizhou asked angrily.
JingYu silently studied his face for a moment. He inched closer. "Move in with me."
At first Weizhou wasn't clear whether he heard correctly. "What..?" His mouth quietly uttered.
JingYu's hands reached out and framed Weizhou's face. "I've been saving up to rent a place., not far from school. I found the perfect place today ZhouZhou."
Weizhou was awe-struck. "JingYu.."
"Babe I know it sounds ridiculous. But don't say no yet. Just at least think about it." JingYu requested looking into his eyes.
Of course Weizhou was beyond tempted to say 'Yes' right away. Yet he decided to think more sensibly. "JingYu we live a walking distance away from each other."
"I know...but..I'm sick of being told how to live my life. I wanna move out of there. I'm ready to be on my own.., and of course I want you with me." His hands moved down to Weizhou's neck.
This was so out of the blue that Weizhou could not even begin to process it and he knew he should not try to do so under the influence of JingYu's warmth. Because in this particular moment, all his heart did was scream 'Yes! Yes! Yes!'. He encircled his arms around JingYu's waist.
"Will you think about it hmm?" JingYu lowered so that their foreheads touched.
"Mmm...I will.." Weizhou answered softly before his stare shifted down to JingYu's lips.
JingYu claimed Weizhou's waiting lips. Once again they were in their own little universe.
They kissed ardently for a while before JingYu drew back to speak again. "You were going somewhere.."
Weizhou's eyes barely opened to respond. "That's not important." He pulled JingYu back in.
