It was official, Violet Uley fucking detested weddings. The whole concept was a fiasco and a true test to her will power as she constantly forced herself to focus on the touch of Emmett's palms or the bright smile of joy permanently embedded into Bella's face as the day wore on.
It wasn't like she wanted to be in a bad mood, but she most certainly should have expected it after the night of adventures she had gone through. She got a minimum of five hours of sleep the previous night before Alice was rushing her to hair and makeup right after Bella. Despite the fact she had nothing to do with the bridal party she still had to look presentable, and this also meant she wasn't aloud to eat anything in her dress until after the wedding pictures. Now normally this isn't much of a problem considering wedding jitters and Bella seemed to have an okay time with the order but Violet was a very special case.
She had to eat to maintain her sanity and controlling her urge to rip apart the pantry full of potato chips was loosening through her fingers through the majority of the day. So as of now she fucking detested weddings.
There was some positive moments, like when she had finally seen Emmett's face as they had found one another. She was all dolled up and he was looking rather beautiful in his black and white tux, both were instantly mesmerized with one another and to anyone walking past them it seemed like they were the ones to be wed by the glances they gave one another as Emmett met her at the bottom of the stairs.
Then there was the small surprise Emmett had given her of knowing that she would be seeing Seth Clearwater later on in the night because he was personally invited by Edward. The two had grown close after the newborn battle and Seth had managed to help Edward defeat not only the redhead vampire but also her second in command.
And of course the last being as the ceremony had ended and the photos had quickly passed she was now able to scarf down as much food as she wanted.
It's not like Violet detested the ceremony enough though, she could tell despite her reservation between Bella and Edward they were very much in love and clearly insane enough to jump together into the matrimony. She found there vows quite beautiful, and it meant so much more when from beside her Emmett's palm tightened in her own as their eyes met, and Edwards last words were held between them as they knew that much was true for them as well.
The rest which consisted of pictures between the families were a quick blur as Violets stomach began to growl louder and louder.
When the last picture was snapped everyones eyes immediately fell upon the brunette who had all but cursed out the photographer when he had insisted her grimace was not enough of a smile and she had told him she would shove the pretty little camera up his ass if he criticized her once more.
"Now you can go enjoy," Alice had spoken to the other half of Emmett.
"Yes! Fucking finally," Violet said in triumph, earning a chuckle from everyone in the family as Emmett wrapped his palm with hers but sighed at his mates impatient attitude.
"Don't forget Violet, we have friends of the family we would like you to meet." Esme's soft words interrupted her stampede towards the line of food.
"Will do." Violet nodded towards the coven mother before pulling Emmett along with her to where the sounds of forks scrapped against glass plates and chatter ensued.
Emmett snorting a laugh as he pulled her to him and tucked her arm between his own and side. "Weddings are suppose to be a time to bring true love together... why do I get the feeling that's between you and food."
Violet grinned up at her polar bear sized boyfriend as they walked past many humans who stared at them oddly. She had gotten used to it after awhile, it was normal now. "You just think you know me so well don't you?"
Emmett shook his head, lifting his hands in mock surrender. "Never claimed that and never will, because you're my favorite never ending treasure box."
The smirk on his lips clearly displayed how smooth he felt after that line to which Violet licked her lips. "Smooth move Polar Bear, of course you know the only way to get me out of this dress is through food. Now come on, I'm not missing that steak."
Emmett rolled his eyes but nonetheless followed his girlfriend through the crowd.
Eventually she managed to get about an entire plate full of food and then even Emmett grabbed one himself because he just knew one wasn't enough for her. They sat down and ate alongside most of the family, conversing with many around them while Violet attempted not to look like a total animal eating her food.
She laughed at her boyfriends words of encouragement for Bella and Edward wedding night, especially when the brides father downed his entire glass of wine in seconds and the mother began singing lullabies. Truly, it was hilarious and only something Emmett Cullen could conjure up and would have the balls to say aloud.
After most of the food was served and the guests were able to start moving around Emmett grabbed Violet and led her towards the dance floor where most of the people had seemed to gather.
"You know I love you more then anything right?" Emmett hummed to the girl as he pulled her into tighter to his embrace. A certain amount of warmth radiating between them as they were just happy to be holding one another.
Violet lifted her head from his shoulder, "of course I do, just like you know I love you more then anything as well. You're the love of my life polar bear and nothing will ever change that."
Emmett hadn't been able to take his eyes off her since she had glided down the stairs like an angel descending heaven. He knew he wasn't the only one aware of her beauty, the nearest thing to a goddess this world would ever see wasn't all just for one man to cherish but he would be damned if anyone else got to kiss her like he did because the way she stared back at him would only ever be for him and he would spend an eternity making sure it was certain.
"Excuse me, I heard there was a party in town." A deep accented voice broke apart the couple, jolting Violet as she hadn't heard him approach.
Violets eyes caught a smile stretching across Emmett's face, the unfamiliar voice drawing closer.
"Stone, you son of a bitch!" Emmett exclaimed, turning so Violet can catch the face of the newly arrived vampire. He was an older gentlemen but that certainly didn't make him any less handsome. He looked every part the male model with his dark skin and dashing smile as he greeted Emmett in an expensive black suit that showed off some clear muscle definition. He was about the same height as Emmett which was incredibly tall as she felt like a small child between them even in her heels.
Violet patiently waited as they did the manly hug and everyone curiously stared at the newcomer.
"Emmett, you look well," he smiled at the pale vampire when they pulled apart and Emmett naturally stepped back towards Violet, wrapping his arm around her waist. Clearly the man with dark eyes noticed this and looked down towards her, "and who is this."
"Luther Stone meet my mate, Violet Uley. Vi, meet one of Carlisle's oldest friends and one of my best friends... Luther Stone." Emmett introduced the hybrid and vampire.
The dark skinned vampire nodded his head towards her, taking her lifted hand and kiss the top of her fingers briefly as he spoke in his British accent. "Pleasure love, I do say Emmett... you've certainly got yourself an angel haven't you."
Emmett chuckled, Vi blushing slightly as she cleared her throat. "Nice to meet you Luther..."
"Stone sweetheart, my friends call me Stone." He winked at her in a playful manner, fixing his tux as his eyes flickered back to his best friend. "So when did you two finally meet? When's the last time I saw you Emmett? London, mid eighties?"
"It's been that long? Wow, time flies really." Emmett pondered but then looked down to Violet and answered the rest of his question. "And this past year, we met before the newborn battle."
"Ah, so you two are still in that honeymoon stage, enjoy it you two. After a few centuries you'll start a war to get away from one another." He joked, once again charming smile and all. "No, I'm kidding. It's more like there isn't enough time in the world for each other."
Violet chuckled, especially when Emmett pressed his lips to her temple. Normally she would have joked back but she became intrigued when he spoke like he knew from experience but the strange thing was the man had come alone. She chose to stay silent about the matter however.
"Where's Garrett? Last time I heard you two were off in Louisiana enjoying the rainy season." Emmett questioned, bringing Vi's attention back to the conversation.
Who was Garrett? She wondered if this was yet another of the Cullen's many comrades considering there was still a clan of them she had yet to meet although they were expected to show up.
"He stayed back, you know him, not much for the nuptials. He sends his best however, bastard was too busy enjoying the tourists to even notice my departure." Stone shrugged although there was a smile on his lips. "I should go find Carlisle though, so I'll let you two continue your dance. Whenever you two want to come visit me I'm not far, it was a pleasure to meet you Ms. Violet. Emmett, don't lose this girl, she's way out of your league."
Violet laughed, "pleasure to meet you as well and we might just have to take you up on that offer."
He walked away with a short nod to his old friend, Emmett wrapping his arms around Violet once more. "He lost his mate a few years back."
Violet cocked her head, briefly wondering how he knew what she was thinking. Then again it was Emmett so she sighed. "That's horrible. How longs it been?"
"About twenty years or so. Hunters killed her, apparently they mistook her for someone else and still killed her, he's been hanging out with Garrett ever since. Those two are complete opposites yet somehow they keep each other alive. Crazy and reckless but also smart," Emmett smirked down towards her.
"Wow, that must be horrible though, he seems to have made peace with it though." Violet softly spoke, hoping he wasn't near.
"Seems like it to me as well. He loved her though, and she was a real beauty. I'm talking like worshipped by the Egyptian gods beauty, her name was Nadia... people use too call her a goddess, kind of like you." Emmett spoke, his voice low and face lowered so there lips almost touched.
Vi rolled her eyes at her boyfriends words, entranced by the story of a women before her time. "That's horrible though, to live so many years only to die for a mistaken identity."
"Yeah, and he really did love her. I thought he was going to lose his sanity when she died and he did. There was a few years where even being a vampire and being near him was certain death, there's a reason he's called stone you know. It took Garrett, Carlisle, Jasper, and I an entire ten years to get him to see reason." The burly man explained, his eyes briefly going back in time and the air growing silent between them. "I couldn't blame him though, I look at you now and know that if you really had died I would have probably destroyed an entire hemisphere."
"Don't say that, ever." Violet warned him, pressing her lips softly against his own before the conversation went in the wrong direction. She didn't want the situation to get out of hand, it was suppose to be a joyous moment and that didn't include the tragedy that took place months ago.
Emmett nodded, pressing her tighter to him, reminding himself that she was very real and present. "Come on, we should get a dance with the bride and groom."
"You're serious?" Violet raised an eyebrow, a laugh escaping her as she thought of being anywhere near the bronze haired vampire she had all but said two words to since knowing one another.
"Oh, very. This might be the last chance I get to dance with Bella and see her blush in that hilarious way." Emmett nodded his head, leading them towards where Bella and Edward where speaking with some high school friends. A fake smile on both their faces and Violet realized that they were just dying to get away.
"I think it's time to have our chance to dance with the bride and groom wouldn't you say Vi?" Emmett spoke up, coming beside the duo of couples.
Bella looked over at them, her lips stretching into a smile of relief as she pleaded with her eyes to be saved from the awkward conversation. Violet rolled her eyes at her but nodded with a smile, "sure. Why not."
The couple who Violet barely glanced at backed away, saying their polite goodbye although the female in the situation looked to be only saying farewell to Edward.
Emmett was quick to grab up Bella and pull her towards the dance floor with a line like, "well I should take advantage while you can still walk."
Meanwhile Violet stared Edward down, both awkwardly looking at one another. Violet cleared her throat, crossing her arms, "well I think I'll go hunt down the old scotch."
Edward stopped her, placing his palm over her arm and sighing. "Emmett's right you know, despite your thoughts of me—"
"You mean the ones where I think you're an overprotective asshole with a look of constipation constantly on his face?" She clarified for him.
Edward belted out a laugh, "you know what. Yes, I'm all those things actually and you're the only person who can come up with such a creative way to phrase it."
Violet grinned at his laugh, she hadn't ever seem him act so carefree before. Normally she couldn't stand Edward because he constantly had a stick up his ass and she just couldn't handle being near someone like that, let alone marrying but this one with a child like laugh was one she could handle.
"Dance with me Eddie, who knows this might be the only time we are this close to one another without beating the shit out of each other." She extended her hand to him.
He nodded, formally dancing with her. "You know, I didn't know what Emmett saw in you but I can see it now. You're funny, but you're also aware. He needs someone like that."
"You make me sound like the hot, older babysitter." She responded with a raised brow.
"Not necessarily the way I would have put it but if the shoe fits." Edward shrugged his shoulders.
"Then let me lace the bitch up." She retorted, earning a laugh from both of them before she was collecting herself. "No but seriously, you're not too bad yourself. Top layer of shit aside you actually really do love Bella, I can see it. The way you look and speak about her, it's more then taking a bullet for her, it's like you would die a million horrible deaths all for her to get another day of life. It's crazy, and probably not healthy but it's beautiful."
"I'm not the only one who would lay their life down for someone they loved am I." Edward countered with a cock head.
"No, I suppose you aren't. I guess that makes us alike in more ways then one." Violet shrugged.
"Who would have thought, guess thats the biggest surprise here besides the fact Bella didn't announce she was pregnant like most people thought." The bronze haired man spoke softly, rolling his eyes at the ludicrous idea most humans had at the party. "Come on, I have to show you something."
"Me? Isn't this your wedding? Shouldn't you be only showing your new wife things?" Violet questioned as he grabbed her hand.
Edward rolled his eyes at the girl. "Let me clarify, Emmett and I brought you and Bella something."
Violet flickered her eyes briefly over towards Emmett who subtly nodded his head towards her before going back to Bella. The brunette pursed her lips but nodded her head at Edward and let him lead her towards the outskirts of the party. The music was toned down as their shoes squeaked against the wet grass and they neared the outline of the tree.
"What the hell?" Violet questioned when she saw nothing out of the ordinary. He must have been playing a joke although Edward didn't seem like the type of person to do such things.
"Wow Vi, who knew you could look so good." A voice broke from the distance, the rustling of dead leaves and mud following as he stepped out in a white shirt and black jeans.
"Jake!" Violet managed to yell, before she knew it she had already ran across the field in her heeled shoes. Forgetting Edward although he had already turned back to the party to retrieve Bella and prepare her for her turn to see Jake. She was thankful that her dress had a slit as it gave her more of a distance to stretch her legs without ripping the expensive fabric although she presumed it would be wet from the bottom. She could care less though, it was Jacob Black, he was home.
Jake caught her instantly, the girls arms wrapping around his neck like a boa as he lifted her up delicately. "Oh my god, you're actually here. How? When? I haven't drank too much have I?"
Jacob laughed, setting her back down and grasping the sides of her face with both large palms as she grinned up at him. "Oh god, I've missed your annoying million questions. By the way, you look beautiful."
Violet placed a palm over his own and blushed, "you already said that idiot."
"It's true though." Jacob shrugged, letting her go. He couldn't continue to be this close to her and not kiss her, not look into her dark brown eyes and envision the past. Despite needing to see both girls he couldn't continue to put himself second, despite one of them being unaware of his affection.
"And look at you." Violet didn't miss a beat, gesturing to his outfit. "I see someone gave up the cutoff jeans."
He shrugged his shoulders once more, scratching at his head. "So how's it been since..."
"Since I turned into the thing you hate the most?" She finished the statement for him, although there was clearly not a hint of anger. "Yeah, no sense in jumping over the subject. I'm okay I guess? I mean there's not really a how to menu for this shit but I'm pretty sure I'm doing better then most. I'm only half though so it's not like I have to fight the urge to drink human blood... honestly I've never felt more human. It's like life has taken a slower turn, nothing trying to kill me or I have to deal with werewolves. It's better, I feel normal. It just doesn't feel... real I guess? Like all of this peacefulness is just a delusion and I'm waiting for reality to set me. I find myself questioning wether you and everyone else is real."
Jake took her words in, noticing how indeed not a single part of her seemed to fake it. There was something that he could tell off the bat were different, her lips were a bit fuller then before. The moles on her neck that once dusted her skin had been long since hidden away and her skin seemed to glow like caramelized gold. She didn't look entirely different but the imperfect Violet Uley was no doubt his favorite, although the smile on this one was quickly changing his mind.
He grasped her perfectly manicured hand placed it over his chest where his heart lay right below. Her fingers were warm, warm enough to compete against his own fire blazing blood. "You're very real Vi and this is very real. I'm still Jake, that little dumbass boy who use too braid your hair into a godawful braid when you broke your arm in 5th grade. I'm still that boy who dropped you into the ocean at the party freshmen..."
I'm still the Jake who's in love with you...
The words never left his mouth but he prayed that she had understood him. However he almost felt like his heart deflated when she simply smiled at him and nodded her, "you're my Jacob Black, dumbass and all."
Jake pretended not to feel the pain from her words, like the small match lit between them had just been thrown a bucket of cold water. Instead he masked the pain with a small laugh, nodding his head. "The very one, and you're still my wolf queen. Samuel be damned."
Vi couldn't help herself, she stepped forward and kissed his cheek tenderly, once again wrapping her thin arms around him. "It's good to have you home."
Jake ducked his head into the crevice of her shoulders. "It's good to know you smell like you Vi."
"I'm always going to be Vi," she answered.
"Do me a favor." Jacob sighed, his coffee brown eyes squinting slightly. Vi almost felt uncomfortable when he looked at her that intently, like he was waiting for something to happen or imagining. She pursed her lips and waited for him to make his request. "Dance with me this one song and pretend like none of this is real, like you and I are still human, with that soft music playing in the background and we are standing on that hill tip in La Push."
Vi pushed her hair back and questioned softly. "Jeez Jake, you're kind of freaking me out here. Why?"
"There's things that are gonna happen, things you're going to find out soon enough and some that I'm going to have to watch happen. These things might drift us apart further and this might be one of the last times we can be together without the weight of the world on our shoulders. I just want to dance with the girl I love and pretend like we are still two stupid teenagers hell bent on making the world our."
Love.
He spoke so casually and swiftly that if she hadn't been paying attention so intently she wouldn't have noticed that instead of loved he had said love. Jacob didn't even seem to care however as he pulled her into his embrace and began gliding. She didn't want to push the subject further even if her heart had dropped to the pit of her stomach and her mouth had dried. Her heartbeat has accelerated to the maximum amount and even if there was a million questions running through her mind and guilt clouding her judgement she stayed silent.
She pretended to be two stupid teenagers dancing with the world gliding under the feet instead of weighing down on their shoulders.
