➳ 15: into the wild
KLAUS was standing in the living room, looking at Kol's burnt corpse in mourning. Ingrid strolled through the house and stopped right at the barrier, she was holding an oddly shaped tarp in her hand and a cup carrier with two coffees. He turned to face her with an angry face and scowled. "You abandoned me."
She scoffed with an offended expression. "I did not abandon you, Niklaus. If I had, I would not have returned with this." She said waving the tarp up with a happy smirk then began uncovering it. "Alexander's sword." The Mikaelson wife pointed out before handing it out for him to take through the barrier. He took it from her with a confused face and she paced the floor. "I found your poor excuse for a hybrid and his darling girlfriend sneaking around our house." She informed him in disgust then walked around the foyer into the kitchen and stared down at Kol's burnt corpse in sorrow.
Klaus sighed heavily then titled his head to the side. "I suppose you are forgiven... am I to assume you have a revenge plan in play?"
She looked up from her deceased brother-in-law to her husband and clapped her hands together. "Yes! I am going to let them stew in their own fear until they come back." Ingrid replied with a devious grin then walked back toward the living room with a worried face. "How are you, darling?"
"I am peachy." He replied sarcastically causing her to roll her eyes.
"I know better than to push any further." She whispered to herself, turned to Kol's body again and frowned deeply. "What would you like me to do about Kol?"
"Leave him. It fuels my rage." Klaus answered in a gruff tone while staring at his little brother's corpse.
She grimaced slightly before walking around the foyer to the front room again. "I called Elijah." She said with a sad facial expression. "I informed him about Kol and he said while he is grief-stricken, it is too dangerous to return to Mystic Falls... and I have to agree."
"So big brother isn't going to come home when his family needs him most?" Klaus sarcastically questioned then smirked bitterly. "How surprising."
"Niklaus..." She called out in a scolding tone then looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "You cannot blame him. As long as they have the white oak stake, we are at risk." She then paused and held a finger to her lips before speeding upstairs.
Suddenly, Tyler walked in the front door with a pleased smirk. "Morning, sunshine. You look pathetic."
"Only until Bonnie's spell locking me in here wears off. Then I'll look different. Angrier, perhaps. Or I won't look like anything because I'll have gouged your eyeballs from their sockets." Klaus threatened harshly as he eyes narrowed into dark slits.
"My friends will be back with the cure by then. So, I could shove it down your throat and make you mortal." Tyler mocked with a grin.
Klaus smirked at him and laughed. "I'm an Original. What makes you think my entire vampire bloodline won't be cured along with me? I.e., you."
Tyler pursed his lips and shook his head. "You know what I think? I think that's impossible. I think the moment you stop being a vampire, our whole blood connection to you is broken, and your sire-line ceases to exist." He concluded happily and shrugged his shoulder. "So, whatever happens to you, happens only to you, which means I can kill your ass and no one else has to die. Although I am still debating just how to do it."
Klaus sped towards Tyler, but couldn't get him due to the barrier. "I recommend drowning. There's nothing quite like the feeling of someone fighting for something as basic as human breath. And let me tell you, your mother was a fighter."
Tyler glared at Klaus, who looked pleased with his taunting. Ingrid sped toward Tyler and held him in a chokehold. "Hello, Tyler." She whispered in his ear before snapping his neck in a swift motion.
Caroline entered through the back door just in time to see Tyler's body hit the ground in an unconscious heap. "Tyler!" She yelled in fear as she sped toward him, panicking. "Oh, my God!"
Ingrid took a sip of her coffee then made an overdramatic ahh sound. She looked at Caroline in annoyance and waved her hand nonchalantly. "He is fine. Quit over playing the dramatics."
Caroline stood up straighter on her feet and glared furiously at her. Ingrid chuckled in amusement at her angry face and brought her coffee back to her lips. "It is like a small kitten about to pounce. It is so cute." Then her face deadpanned and she narrowed her dark eyes. "Take your loser boyfriend and leave."
The blonde scoffed then walked away from her, into the kitchen. "Why should I?"
Ingrid pursed her lips and made a confused face before sneering. "You and your friends have done enough destruction to my family. I will not allow you to hurt us anymore."
She ignored the Original and found a table cloth in a cabinet. Caroline used it to cover up Kol's body as Klaus watched with a slightly tortured expression.
"Tyler's mother is dead. So is my brother. We're even." He said in a hollow tone then glanced up at Caroline. "Call Bonnie. Get her to let me out of here."
She looked up from Kol and sneered at him. "I will never, ever, help you."
"How quickly you forget the part where I saved Tyler from the misery of being a werewolf. Or the night your mother invited me into her home to save the life of her precious daughter." Klaus attempted to guilt trip her causing Ingrid to roll her eyes.
"How delusional are you? You killed his mother. And let's not forget that we're standing in a house where Elena's aunt Jenna used to live. Or did you think that your charm would make us forget how you killed her, too?" Caroline snapped then stood up and held her hands up in surrender.. "You know what? No. I am not going to engage in this. You are not even worth the calories I burn talking to you."
Ingrid gaped at her in disgust before setting her coffee down and speeding toward her. Caroline attempted to get away and fight her off but Klaus grabbed a lamp and threw it at the blonde, impaling her. Ingrid took the opportunity to extend her fangs and bite down on Caroline's neck. The Original then tossed her down on the floor and wiped her mouth with her finger tips. She smirked over at Klaus, who was smirking back. "That was worth the calories."
Later on, Ingrid was in Elena's bedroom, going through her things with an unimpressed expression. She pulled her phone out and dialed a number quickly. It rang a few times before they answered. "What? Calling to make empty threats?" Elena questioned her angrily causing the hybrid to chuckle.
Ingrid mused lowly and glanced around the room. "They're not empty. Believe me. But... No, not quite. I need something from you."
"I'm not giving you anything." Elena sneered at her in hatred.
"See, you seem to think you have a choice. But that won't be a problem." Ingrid remarked with an amused expression then looked at the figurines in Elena's dresser. "I want to make a trade. See, I've taken a significant chunk out of your friend Caroline and obviously the only thing that can heal her is either Niklaus' or my blood." She explained in a dull tone as she pushed the figurines to the floor, breaking them. "Oops."
"Oh, my God!" Elena exclaimed in surprise and horror.
"Yeah, yeah." Ingrid stated in boredom and sat down on the window seat with Elena's diary in her hands. "Now, I doubt Niklaus will save her life considering you murdered his brother in front of him then trapped him with Kol's burnt corpse. But I will... in exchange for my blood, I need you to kill Jeremy..? Yeah, that is what I want. Kill Jeremy."
"No! I would never--- I won't!" The doppelgänger agrued sternly, rejecting her order.
"You can say no. That is fine and expected." Ingrid replied while reading the first page of her diary. "However, as I've previously said, you do not have a choice. Oh! Before you angrily hang up, I need to add a few condions." She said quickly and held a finger up. "When you hang up the phone, you will not remember that we had this conversation. You won't remember that you need to kill Jeremy either. It will look like a spur of the moment choice. Also, you will tell no one. Okay, understood?"
"What? No!" Elena yelled sternly. "I won't kill my brother. You're sick." She snarled in disgust before hanging up the phone.
Ingrid snickered to herself and looked at her phone. "Okay." She then dialed another number and read the diary as she waited for them to pick up. Once it stopped ringing and they answered, she smirked widely and sat back against the wall. "Hello, Katherine!"
She walked down the stairs to see that Tyler had revieved and was pointing at Caroline with a desperate expression. "She'll die if you don't heal her."
"I do believe that was the point, no?" She replied while walking toward him with a confused expression.
Tyler glared at her, enraged, then turned to Klaus, who shrugged. "Okay." He bit into his wrist and extended his arms out to Tyler, palms up. "Beg me to save her life."
The unsired hybrid gaped at him in shock and shook his head. "Is this what you want? To remind me that I'm powerless against you? Fine. You win. I'm nothing. Now save her. Please."
"While I am pleased that we are all on a consensus about your worthlessness, I am going to say... no." Ingrid replied with a smirk and folded her hands together.
Klaus laughed at her then tilted his head out with a hand behind his ear. "I'm sorry, mate. I didn't quite catch that."
"Please." Tyler begged desperately.
"Please..." Klaus repeated with a face of anticipation and urged him to continue.
Tyler growled lowly and swallowed his pride. "Please save her life."
"See, now I think you're just telling me what I want to hear. I mean, you did call me pathetic earlier. And wouldn't it be more pathetic of me to help now, knowing that hours ago, you announced your plan to kill me in a manner in which you're debating because you want it to have a certain amount of flair?" Klaus questioned with a pointed expression then smirked after seeing Tyler's horrified face. "I'm just asking."
"I'll be your slave again. I'll do whatever you want. Just help her." Tyler pleaded desperately, practically getting on his hands and knees.
Klaus pretended to think about it for a moment before smiling genuinely. "No."
"Get me out of here. I can't even look at them." Caroline weakly snarled while wheezing for breath.
Tyler turned away from them, helping her up and walking out the front door. "Come on."
A few hours later, Tyler carried Caroline back into the living room and lied her down on the floor in front of them. "You want to be in control? Here. Now you get to be in control of her life. If you want her to die, fine. But then you can sit here and watch her die yourself." He sneered with tears in his eyes then left the house.
Caroline looked up at them and Ingrid glanced at her in fake sympathy. "You are not looking too good. Are you feeling alright?"
Klaus glanced at the blonde and shrugged his shoulders with a blank face. "Nothing personal, love. If I cure you, that means victory for him. Don't worry. It won't be long now."
Caroline closed her eyes as her breathing was raspy and labored. "If you don't feed me your blood, I'll die." She replied to them in a weak voice.
"Exactly." Ingrid replied in an obvious tone of voice then paused when her phone rang in her pocket. She looked at the caller ID and smirked widely. "Excuse me." She said kindly before walking out onto the porch.
"Then you'll die, and Tyler will have learned his lesson the hard way." Klaus said to the vampire in a dry tone.
"How could you do this to him? To his mom? To me?" Caroline asked him, hurt crossing her face.
"I'm a thousand years old. Call it boredom." Klaus remarked with a smirk plastered on his face.
Caroline wheezed and shook her head. "I don't believe you."
"Fine. Then maybe it's because I'm pure evil, and I can't help myself." The Original concluded with pursed lips and an amused face.
"It's because you were hurt. Which means that there is a part of you that is human." Caroline kindly explained, staring up into his eyes.
Klaus approached her and sat on the table next to the sofa. He looked at her both amused and afraid. "How could you possibly think that?"
"Because I've seen it. Because...I've see the way you act with Ingrid. You're in love with her. And anybody capable of love is capable of being saved." She said genuinely.
Klaus' eyes started glistening, and appeared to have been moved by Caroline's words but he looked away and attempted to cover it up. "You're hallucinating."
"I guess I'll never know." She whispered and her breathing caught.
Klaus leaned forward and nudged her slightly. "Caroline?"
Her breathing was labored, weak, and fading. For a moment longer Klaus looked torn, but finally he lifted Caroline into a sitting position. He bit open his wrist and put it up to her mouth and she started drinking.
On the porch, Ingrid answered her phone while looking down at her nails. She frowned when she noticed one was chipped. "Hello, Stefan."
"Call it off!" He yelled angrily into the phone.
"My apologies, I have no idea what you are talking about. You are going to have to be specific." She mocked in a feigned clueless tone of voice.
"Elena keeps trying to kill Jeremy and the only thing I can think of that makes sense is that you told her to! So call it off." He snarled furiously causing her to roll her eyes.
"Okay. But I need something from you now." She remarked in a mischevious manner then laughed after hearing him sigh.
"What?" The youngest Salvatore questioned in annoyance.
"The white oak stake." She replied immediately, seriousness lacing her voice. "I need you to get it back from Elena and bring it to me when you get home. Then maybe I won't kill you."
"Sure. Whatever. But if we get this cure, I'm ramming it down your throat." Stefan threatened darkly.
She twirled a strand of brunette hair with her finger and hummed lowly. "Oooh. Yeah, sounds kinky. Tell me more."
He sneered in disgust before another voice flooded her ears. "Hello?"
"Elena, dear." Ingrid greeted her in boredom. "You can stop trying to kill Jeremy. Our deal is off anyway. Niklaus has taken it upon himself to heal your friend. Oh! I do need you to do something though... Break Damon's heart into a million pieces." She then hung up the phone and rolled her eyes.
Caroline walked out onto the porch to see her standing there and glared furiously. Realizing there was something she could hold over Ingrid's head, she smiled bitterly and crossed her arms over her chest. "How does it feel knowing your husband choose to save me?"
"Oh, it feels good because he's given me a second opportunity to kill you." Ingrid replied with a wide smile. "If you are attempting to evoke jealousy, I would try harder. I mean... I have seen what turns you on and let's just say... it is pathetic." She remarked with a laugh then sobered up for a second. "You can do better than Tyler Lockwood. Don't subject yourself to the likes of him because he offers sex. Every man can do that. Do better." She offered a small amount of genuine advice before walking into the Gilbert house and slamming the front door shut.
