➳ 59: fire with fire

THUNDER and lighting crashed outside as Rebekah walked across the room to close the windows, preventing more rain from coming in. However, when she pulled down the window pane, she found that the top was covered in blood, suggesting it was opened specifically for someone to escape. Her eyes widened and she yelled loudly in a panic. "Elijah!"

Elijah walked into the room to investigate and noticed the blood. He paused in place as fear washed over him like a tidal wave.

Rebekah lead Marcel into the room where they were keeping Ingrid's body only to find that the coffin was empty and Ingrid had vanished. Rebekah gasped, her heart pounding in her ears, and ran to the art studio to find that Klaus was gone as well. "No!" She yelled in horror and turned to Marcel. "Where the hell are they?"

Marcel looked at her speechlessly and stared at the empty coffin in a small amount of fear.

In the Bayou, Jackson was inside the main building, where he was checking the string on his bow. After a moment, Hayley walked in to check on him while giving him suggestions on where they should run away. "What about Alaska?"

Jackson thought about it for a moment and then smiled with a nonchalant shrug. "I could live in Alaska!"

Suddenly, they were interrupted by the sound of one of the wolves screaming in agony outside, which startled them so much that they both jumped up. Hayley, Jackson, and a few other wolves ran outside to see what had happened, to find Ingrid and Klaus, who ripped the wolves' throat out with his own fingernails. Hayley was horrified at their presence which only seemed to satisfy them both further.

"Good evening, Crescents." Klaus greeted with a wide, devious smirk.

Ingrid narrowed her eyes at them with a bitter smile and shifted on his hips, her hands in her pockets. "I believe you have stolen something from us." She remarked in a slow, vexed tone of voice as her face remained blank.

"And it will come as no surprise to learn that things will not be ending well for you." Klaus added with a dark chuckle, gesturing to them with his hands held out at his sides in his usual defensive stance.

Jackson, looking anxious, stepped in front of Hayley before calling back to her, not taking his eyes off of the hybrids. "Go back inside. Get Hope and Mary out of here."

"I can help you!" Hayley offered, rejecting the run and hide technique.

"I'll be right behind you." Jackson said sternly, hoping she would just listen instead of arguing.

Hayley frowned deeply and attempted to reason with him again. "Jack..."

"Just get Hope, and run." He snapped at her and Hayley looked reluctant to leave him behind, but after a moment, she sped away. Jackson gulped nervously before addressing the other wolves, who had surrounded Klaus and Ingrid. "Let's take them!"

"I think not." Ingrid mused with a smirk before speeding after Hayley, leaving Klaus to battle the wolves.

Klaus looked around at his contenders and smirked, waving them on in a challenging manner. They all charged after him and it broke out into a vicious fight. Klaus grabbed one of the wolves and shoved his head through a glass window, which shattered upon impact with his skull. He shoved another into the tree, but was quickly grabbed by a third, who held onto Klaus so that Jackson could hit him with an arrow, which lodged into his chest.

Klaus angrily swung around and shoved the werewolf into a nearby bus before pulling the arrow out and giving Jackson a pitying look. "You think you can defeat me with your toys?" He questioned incredulously.

"We're just getting warmed up." Jackson replied arrogantly.

Klaus chuckled to himself. "So, Hayley runs, and you hold the line. How valiant. Not too bright, though. You do remember our last, somewhat-one-sided altercation?"

"This ain't gonna be like last time." Jackson promised and flashed his golden eyes at Klaus.

Inside one of the small shack, Hayley ran to Mary, who had been watching Hope, and explained their current situation. "What about Jack?" Mary questioned in concern, panicked at the thought of leaving the Alpha behind while two Originals lurked around.

"He and the others will meet us up the road." Hayley said quickly as she rushed around to gather what she needed to leave.

They turned to see Ingrid standing in the door way, a flash of lightning stricking across the sky behind her and illuminating her for a brief second. She couldn't get in the house without an invitation but was blocking the only exit making it impossible for them to leave without an altercation.

Hayley backed away in fear and used her body to shield Mary's. Ingird tapped her fingers against the wooden doorframe and glanced at them with a cold expression. "Give her back and I'll make it quick."

Outside, Klaus was yelling at the top of his lungs as he continued to fight against Jackson and the werewolves. Various wolves lunged at him and attempted to tackle him, but Klaus just punched and kicked until they fell to the ground. Jackson rushed up behind him and punched him several times in the stomach and face until Klaus backhanded him so hard that he flew backwards.

"Ah, you have gotten stronger!" Klaus complimented in amusement. "I reckon you've gone from a field mouse to a lapdog."

Jackson glared at him and motioned for him to come at him. "Come on, then."

Inside, Hayley was thinking of a plan to get around Ingrid and decided it would be best to just rush at her. Hayley sped toward Ingrid but the Original grabbed her by the throat and slammed her harshly onto the front deck, sending her through wood and into the ground.

Instead of letting her go, Ingrid pulled her up by the throat and tossed her carelessly into the treeline as if Hayley was a rag doll. Hayley flew into a tree and broke her spine before slamming face first into the grass.

Mary watched from the window in horror until Ingrid picked up a pile of rocks and shook them around in her hand for a monent. Humming to herself she stood at the bottom of the porch steps before launching the rocks through the windows like shrapnel. A stone flew into Mary's leg and she cried out in pain, falling down to the ground as blood poured from her femoral artery.

Ingrid then stormed up to the door again and slammed her hands against the frame causing it to fall apart. "I'm not asking."

Hayley pulled herself up off the ground onto her hands and knees with a painful groan and Ingrid held a finger up to Mary with a bitter smile before strolling over to the hybrid. Ingrid kicked Hayley repeatedly in the stomach then in the face while snarling at her. "You have a lot of nerve!"

The Cresent queen fell over onto her side and spat out blood from her lips then glared up at Ingrid. The Original kicked Hayley over onto her back and crouched down next to her, pulling Hayley's head up by her hair. "Where is my daughter?"

Hayley refused to answer so Ingrid drove her hand through the brunette's chest and gripped tightly onto her heart. "I swear to Odin himself that if I don't get my daughter back, I will kill you, your husband, your entire pack. I will hunt you all to extinction."

Suddenly, Dahlia arrived and broke both sides up before standing at Klaus' side. "Enough!"

Sneering in disappointment, Ingrid removed her hand from Hayley's chest cavity and stood up straight on her feet. Hayley's blood dripping down from Ingrid's fingertips onto the grass as she looked at Dahlia in aggravation.

Hayley loudly gasped for air and rolled onto the grass, healing from Ingrid's attack. She glared up at the sight of the three together before realizing what was going on. She pulled herself up and glanced at them in confusion. "Why is she with you, Klaus?"

"Unlike some, they're doing what is best for their daughter." Dahlia assured Hayley with a wide smile.

Hayley lunged for Dahlia but when Dahlia raised her arms and closed her eyes, Hayley's bones started to snap, and she was forced to fall onto the ground.

After a moment, Jackson and the other werewolves in their pack were affected by the spell as well. Hayley cried out in pain and glanced up at her, horrified. "What are you doing to us?"

Klaus motioned around them and smirked sinisterly. "Oh, this? This was my idea-- stealing from Marcel the Crescent curse he once used on your pack. Dahlia was all too happy to make the necessary adjustments to accommodate your hybrid nature." He crouched down in front of Hayley, whose bones were snapping, and fangs were protruding involuntarily. "Now, you will be trapped in wolf form, save for the full moon, leaving you very little time to cause any further mischief." Hayley and Jackson continued transforming painfully on the ground as Klaus enjoyed the sight. "And, because of the Unification ritual linking you to your pack, now they will share your fate, Queen." He sneered out her title in disdain.

Hayley and Jackson screamed loudly in pain as their bones snapped with their transformation into werewolves.

Mary managed to escape when Dahlia had arrived and was fleeing with Hope in the car, driving away from the junkyard. However, Mary began to painfully transform into her wolf form as well and was forced to pull over on the side of the road. She jumped out of the car and fell to the ground, leaving Hope alone in her car seat.

Back at the junkyard, Hayley was trying to plead with Klaus despite her agonizing pain. "Please. Please don't do this, Klaus. She's gonna steal your baby."

Klaus stared down at her, enraged, and jabbed a finger. "It was you who tried to steal my child. And, for that, you will suffer."

Hayley and Jackson were overwhelmed by their transformations and finally began to shift into their wolf forms, growing fur, claws, and the rest of their fangs. The Mikaelsons stood there with different expressions but they both enjoyed the sight of their revenge.

Afterwards, the couple started their search around the Bayou for their daughter. Klaus had finally tracked Mary's truck, which was still abandoned on the road with the door open. When Klaus looked inside the backseat of the truck, he found Hope sitting calmly in her seat and smiled widely in relief. "Hey. Daddy's here! It's all gonna be okay, I promise."

Ingrid sped toward her family and let out a loud breath of consolation as she kissed Hope tenderly on the forehead. "Oh! Hi, baby!"

Suddenly, Dahlia appeared behind them and smiled widely. "And there she is." The couple froze in their spots for a moment before Klaus turned to face Dahlia, standing protectively in front of Hope and Ingrid, who was pretending to be calm not to startle Hope. Dahlia realized that she may have come on too strong and tried to backpedal. "Such a beautiful child. I want to thank you for your hand in procuring her for me. It must not have been easy, betraying your family." She remarked sympathetically to her nephew.

"I will not see my daughter handed over like the spoils of some war." Klaus responded sharply and Dahlia grew confused. "To that end, I remind you of your promise-- you will protect and mentor Hope, drawing from her only what power you require to keep her safe."

Dahlia and Klaus stood in a standoff as she tried to persuade him to hand over his daughter. Ingrid was listening closely with her back to them, shielding Hope with her own body so that if Dahlia choose to attack, Ingrid would be in the line of defense. The female hybrid was making silly faces at Hope, earning smiles and giggles from the infant.

"I will bond her to me first. Once I can channel Hope's power, I will be able to keep her safe from all harm--" Dahlia explained, taking a small step toward them. "--always under my protection."

"I think not." Klaus sneered harshly causing Dahlia to become alarmed by this reaction. "You offered an alliance that would benefit my daughter, and now you wish to link to her, even though you yourself still suffer from that sleep spell? I will not lose my daughter to that affliction."

Dahlia sighed and closed her eyes to gather her patience, struggling to remain tolerant in order to get Hope with the least amount of resistance. "I will use her power to free myself, as I said!"

"And if you fail? Or if Hope is not strong enough?" Klaus questioned the depth of Dahlia's plan then turned back at Hope, who was still watching them calmly. "She is, after all, but a child. I will not condemn her to your fate, not when there is so obvious an alternative." He pointed out, causing Ingrid and Dahlia to look at him in confusion. "If you require power to be immortal without the need to sleep for centuries, then why not channel one who already has eternal life?" Dahlia seemed conflicted by this offer, and Ingrid gaped up at her husband in shock but Klaus ignored it and smiled as he continued on with his alternative. "Bond yourself to me, an immortal hybrid. Once your sleep spell is broken, then, and only then, may you link yourself to Hope."
