30. Trust
After Mr. Kim had seen her back to a more reputable part of the city, she stopped at the store she had exited earlier. Thankfully the aisle that she needed access to was no longer a human sardine can. Lia grabbed a few packets of ramen before purchasing them and heading back to the apartment building. In her mind, she began to practice what she was planning to do to get Namjoon to agree with her. Lia knew that he was stubborn, but she would make him see that telling Mr. Kim wouldn't be a security risk. The more that Lia got to know her boss, the more she could see where Jin got his heart from. If anything, Mr. Kim might prove to be a valuable asset in helping them fix whatever was going on.
Entering the apartment building, she walked up the stairs and was soon walking across the landing to her apartment. Yeontan was there to greet her with a wagging tail and puppy grin as she entered. Keeping the bag with the ramen slung on one arm, she bent down to pick up Yeontan and carry him across the hall after locking her door behind her. She knocked against the apartment door with her foot, waiting as she heard Namjoon's shuffling behind the door. Soon the door opened so that she could stare Namjoon in the face.
"You took a while."
"But I'm here now so that is what is important. You gonna let me in?"
He nodded, stepping aside so she could step in to the apartment. Namjoon shut the door behind her as she put Yeontan down. Yeontan moved about the apartment as if he owned the place while Lia entered the kitchen to begin digging packets of ramen from the bag. Lia could hear Namjoon enter the kitchen, but ignored him for now as she started to cook. After a minute or two had passed, Namjoon cleared his throat.
"So I went out to get some fresh air while I waited for you to come home. When I entered the hallway though, I had quite an interesting conversation with the elderly lady next door."
Lia felt her heart pick up speed, trying not to appear rattled as she cooked. Maybe they talked about something like the weather. She knew that was a far stretch, but she had to think like that so she didn't completely freak out.
"Oh really?"
"Lia," said Namjoon calmly. "I know you and Jungkook slept together. I'm sick, not dumb."
Lia didn't say anything or react as she stood there. When she turned around to look at Namjoon, she saw that he had his arms crossed; his gaze fixed solely on her.
"I noticed the bedsheets had been changed when I went to lay down after you left this morning," said Namjoon when Lia didn't respond. "I was dealing with a headache at the time, so I didn't put two-and-two together then but did after I woke up. It was also confirmed when I noticed two pieces of clothing sloppily hidden under the bed that...well, lets say that only the opposite sex would wear."
Lia felt her cheeks flush, seeming to only remember then that she had only had to strip out of Jungkook's borrowed clothes before the shower last night. Jungkook must have hidden her undergarments in haste and didn't do a good enough job.
"By the sounds of what the neighbor said, sounds like you two enjoyed yourself," said Namjoon; a hint of a smirk on his face. "She kept telling me I better treat you right."
"I'm not discussing this with you," said Lia beyond mortified as she turned back around to cook so she wouldn't have to face Namjoon. She could hear his chuckle behind her.
Wait. Chuckle?
"You're not upset?" she asked as she turned the burner off.
"No. If I didn't know you, I would be, but I trust you and Jungkook definitely does."
Even though this hadn't been the way she had planned on getting Namjoon to agree to letting Mr. Kim into the fold, she felt her plan change at the mention of 'trust' and decided to take advantage of it.
"You trust me?"
"Yes..." said Namjoon, drawing out the answer. Lia turned back around to see that he had a brow raised. "Why do I have a feeling you're about to use what I just said against me?"
"I would like your permission to tell someone else about the seven of you," said Lia in one breath. "I trust this person and I think it will benefit all of you for them to be in on it."
"Lia..."
"You just said you trusted me, so you need to trust me on this. Or were you lying just then?"
"Well, I..."
"Namjoon," she said as she looked at him. "Please trust me."
He was silent for a moment as he looked away from her to stare off to the side.
"I would never let anything happen to any of you," Lia continued. "I'd risk absolutely anything to keep you all safe."
Namjoon stayed facing away from her for another minute or two before turning to look back at her.
"Who is this person?"
"Jin's father," said Lia. "He's my boss. Do you remember him?"
Namjoon shook his head. Lia wasn't surprised by this. They all seemed to have a blank memory for the most part when it came to their pasts before sharing a life.
"Why do you trust him?"
"He misses his son," she said. "He erected a grave for him just to be able to talk to him still. He hopes that he will come home someday. I just think if we told him, he might have valuable insight for all of us, or he could help us start investigating in the right direction. Namjoon, lets face it. Right now any sort of investigation is just going to go in circles. None of you can remember anything for the most part."
Namjoon didn't say anything again as he appeared deep in thought. Lia turned away from him, getting him a bowl of ramen. She handed it to him with the utensils. Namjoon took it without saying anything and went to go sit down on the couch to eat. Lia followed shortly after, moving to sit down beside him.
"It's hard to tell anyone about us because we don't know who to trust, but as I said, I trust you," said Namjoon finally. "We all do so if you're saying you trust Jin's father, I'm going to take your word for it."
Lia couldn't hide the look of complete and utter shock that was on her face. She had thought that it would be more of a battle to get him to agree. Maybe it was the sickness that was making him surrender so quickly or maybe he really did trust her more than she thought. Whatever the case was, she decided to take it as a victory.
"Thank you, Namjoon."
He smiled around a noddle as he slurped it down.
"So how do you plan to inform Jin's father?"
"I'm not sure yet, but I'll figure it out," she said.
For the rest of the evening, Lia took care of Namjoon. He was feeling a bit better than Jungkook had yesterday but the sickness was still affecting him. As she made sure he was settled in bed before she left with plenty to eat and drink, Namjoon stopped her before she could leave the room.
"Don't forget to take your things."
Lia looked back at Namjoon with flushed cheeks as he pointed at what he was talking about. It was still sticking out from under the bed slightly. Bending down to pick up the articles of clothing and shove them in her pocket, she disappeared to quickly pick up Yeontan and leave; Namjoon's chuckles escorting her out of the apartment.
