40. Promises
When Lia woke up Tuesday morning, she saw that she was asleep with her head on Hobi's lap. She chuckled seeing his head off to the side as he snored softly; one of his hands frozen in her hair. Obviously Taehyung hadn't ever left her last night.
Lia sat up slowly and slipped away from Hobi to get ready for work. She still didn't feel well enough to go, but she couldn't ask Hobi to do what Taehyung had done the previous day. It wasn't fair. Besides, she wasn't sure if Mr. Kim would be kind enough to make an exception again. Just as she finished putting her make-up on, she felt herself getting nauseous again. Kneeling down by the toilet, Lia threw up.
"Lia, you're sick."
She wiped the back of her mouth off with some toilet paper before looking over at Hobi in the doorway; his hair sticking up at odd angles as he entered and came over to her. He noticed the way she was dressed and the slightly smeared lipstick on her face.
"You were trying to go to work."
"Yes."
"That's not happening," said Hobi. "Let me enact some of my sunshine service on you. I'll go today in your spot."
"Taehyung already did that yesterday..."
"Well then great! It should be easy for me to do it too! You take it easy today, okay Lia?"
Lia couldn't argue with the happy man standing before her, nodding her head. She called the office to inform them that another one of her friends was going to sub in for her today. Hobi made sure she was settled in bed before leaving. Soon enough Lia was alone with her thoughts like yesterday. Yeontan curled up on the bed beside her as she flicked through the television channels to try to find something to watch. Not able to find anything, she got up and moved to grab her laptop. Lia was tired of feeling like crap and wondered if a quick web search could help her diagnose what was wrong so she could target her symptoms better.
That was something she shouldn't have done. Her eyes widened at the article that appeared on the webpage before her with a bolded question at the top that made her feel even more sick inside.
'Are you pregnant? Here's how to tell!'
"No, no...I can't be pregnant," muttered Lia as she looked at Yeontan curled by her leg.
Yeontan looked at her as she scanned further down the page before turning even paler than before. She was soon up and out of bed, muttering to herself over and over again that she couldn't be pregnant. The more she tried to talk herself out of it though, the more she found herself wanting to go check to see if that was true.

Hobi climbed the steps of the apartment building after getting done work for the day, walking right over to Lia's apartment once he reached the landing with supplies dangling from a bag on his arm. He had tried to call her once or twice throughout the day to check on her, but she hadn't answered either time. He couldn't help but to worry about her seeing how bad off she was before he left.
Standing in front of Lia's apartment door, he knocked on it. Immediately he could hear Yeontan barking on the other side. When he knocked again and still didn't get an answer, he frowned. He wondered if maybe she was sick in the bathroom again and in need of help. Reaching out a hand, he decided to test the doorknob to see if it was unlocked and was relieved when it was.
"Lia?" he called out as he entered the apartment; Yeontan still the only one to greet him.
Not hearing an answer, Hobi shut the apartment door behind him. He put the bag with the supplies down and took off his disguise before wandering towards her bedroom. Seeing it empty, he went towards the bathroom. The door was shut firmly - but as Hobi approached it - he swore he heard crying coming from the other side.
"Lia?" he asked softly, knocking at the door. "It's Hobi. Are you alright?"
"No..." she mumbled causing Hobi to frown again.
"Are you decent? Can I come in?"
Instead of being answered by her voice, he was answered by her opening the door. Hobi locked his eyes on hers and noticed how red they were from crying. He moved his hands up to brush the tears away from her face as they still tracked down her cheeks.
"What's going on?"
Lia didn't know how to answer Hobi's question, so did the next best thing. She stepped aside so that Hobi could look inside the bathroom. Lining the counter of the bathroom sink were ten different pregnancy test sticks. Hobi entered the bathroom without asking, looking down at the sticks to see that each and every one of them said the same thing. Pregnant.
He stared down at the positive test results for a moment before looking back at Lia who still stood in the doorway, her head down.
"Are you crying because you're happy?" asked Hobi.
"I don't know," said Lia. "I want to be happy, but it's hard given the circumstances..."
Hobi moved back over to her, pulling her into a hug. Soon enough Lia was wrapping her arms about him back, burying her teary face in his shoulder.
"I know it's hard since you're only with each of us once a week, but know that we'll support you," assured Hobi.
"Please don't tell the others, Hobi. I don't want them to know."
Hobi frowned again as he pulled back from the hug; Lia doing the same as her glassy eyes locked with his confused ones.
"Why can't we tell the others the good news?" asked Hobi.
"Because I...Hobi, I don't know who the father is."
It was then that it clicked for Hobi. It made sense why - every Tuesday - he woke up by Lia's side now. He also remembered the note from Jungkook about how he had taken Lia on a date.
"So...you don't know if it's Taehyung's baby or Jungkook's?"
She nodded, looking down at her feet.
"That's why I don't want you to say anything. Taehyung and Jungkook already are at odds with one another. I don't want them to have another reason to hate each other."
"Alright, I won't tell the others for now," said Hobi, "But you have to promise me you'll tell them before you start showing."
She nodded her head, looking down at her still flat stomach. It was hard for her to fathom that there was a tiny human inside her this very second. Lia had always wanted children, but she never imagined having a baby like this.
"Good. Now, go rest Lia. You have two people to worry about now. I brought some things with me to cook supper."
Lia nodded once more. When Hobi disappeared from the bathroom, Lia moved to dispose of the tests before going back to her bedroom. Yeontan hopped up onto the bed beside Lia as she leaned back against the headboards to begin cycling through the channels. Within a half hour, Hobi was appearing in her doorway with a tray. She smiled at how carefully he had arranged everything on it. As Hobi placed the tray gently on Lia's lap, Yeontan got up from where he was lying, thinking that it was for him.
"Not for you, silly," said Lia with a soft chuckle as she gently nudged Yeontan aside.
Hobi sat down on the edge of the bed by Lia's feet as he watched her blow on a spoonful of soup before putting it in her mouth.
"How are you doing?"
"Better," she said as she looked at Hobi. "Thank you for the soup."
"Of course," he said with a soft grin back, turning to look and see what Lia had playing on the television to fill the silence.
"Hobi, I'm sorry if I have put you in an awkward situation now with the others," said Lia. "You're really the only one that knows I've slept with both of them."
"Lia, it's fine," said Hobi as he turned back to look at her. "Really. I'm at least glad I can be here for you so you don't have to go through it alone."
"But you still think I should tell them now?" asked Lia, sensing that Hobi was holding back.
"I just think that secrets never lead to anything good," said Hobi. "Even if reality is hard to face, I feel it's better to face it instead of being barreled over by it in the future."
"Well, I did promise you that I would tell them before I show."
"I know you did," said Hobi. "I just...The more I think about it, the more I think that you should at least entertain the thought of telling them sooner."
"But they'll hate each other even more than they already do."
"Nah. I think that both of them are mature enough to set it aside to help you. If they love you, they would."
Hobi could sense Lia's hesitation, moving to place a hand on her knee.
"For now, just think about it, okay? I won't say anything because I promised you. Just...if you have to schedule any appointments with the doctor, try to schedule them on a Tuesday. I'll go with you so you don't have to go through anything alone."
Lia smiled then, wondering just how she lucked out so much. Lia and Hobi fell silent shortly after that as Lia finished her soup, letting her mind wander over what it would be like to tell both Taehyung and Jungkook that she was pregnant.
