53. Reason To Live
When she was hugging Jungkook, it felt like time itself stilled and that the only thing that existed were the two of them. Of course that wasn't the case. Namjoon and Mr. Kim were left standing there like two awkward wheels. Namjoon gave a half grin as he looked over at Mr. Kim.
"Why don't we give these two a minute?" asked Namjoon as Mr. Kim gave a faint smile, nodding his head.
As Mr. Kim walked past the still embracing Lia and Jungkook, he couldn't help but to shoot a wary glance Jungkook's way. After all, he knew what had just happened and couldn't help but to be worried about it all. He wasn't in control ultimately though and knew being overly concerned would do nothing beneficial. Mr. Kim moved to walk up the steps and through the door that Namjoon was holding open. Soon the door was shut and Lia and Jungkook were left alone in the night.
"You're here," Lia breathed out as Jungkook nodded his head; his face buried in her hair.
"I'm here," said Jungkook in response.
"Where have you been? I thought the worst. We all did..."
It was at those words that Jungkook reluctantly drew back from the hug. He studied her face before moving to grab her hand.
"I think we ought to talk about that," said Jungkook as he led her back towards the steps.
Lia didn't like the tone of that, but kept her hand in Jungkook's as he moved to sit on the steps. She sat down beside him, looking over at him.
"You see the thing is..." Jungkook took a deep breath and let it out in a sigh. "This is hard to explain..."
"What's hard to explain?" asked Lia confused.
"I was about to die," said Jungkook finally as he looked at her. "I was on my death bed, but I was saved at the last second today by Taehyung."
Lia felt a pang in her heart at the mention of Taehyung's name. He still wasn't back from wherever he had run off to and she was starting to worry about him now more than ever. She always seemed to be losing touch with one or both of the men that held her heart.
"Where is Taehyung?" asked Lia as Jungkook gave a small smile.
"I'll show you," said Jungkook.
Jungkook held her hand as Lia watched him take a necklace out from underneath his shirt. Her eyes focused on the circular purple and green swirled gem that was dangling off the silver chain with wide eyes. As soon as Jungkook's fingers danced across the surface of the gem, her eyes widened even more as his facial appearance shifted; Taehyung soon the one sitting before her and holding her hand. Lia let out a small shriek that she didn't know was set to fall from her lips as Taehyung let a small chuckle fall from his.
"Am I that scary looking?"
"But how?...What..."
"I can see you're confused," said Taehyung. "You see, I went back to Doc's place today. That was my errand. I wanted to know if Jungkook was alive or not. When I found Jungkook, he was on his death bed. I asked Doc to combine our lives so I could save him, but this time with a condition. I wanted us to be able to control when we change. It works since there are only two of us this time. Instead of waiting to be around once a week, we can switch between us when we're wearing this necklace. It's only when the necklace is off that we can't."
Taehyung paused in his explanation when he saw that Lia was looking at him as if he had sprouted two heads.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" asked Taehyung.
"I'm currently debating whether I want to kiss you or hit you," said Lia bluntly to which Taehyung laughed.
"Preferably not the latter unless you meant hit on me and not physically hitting..."
Once again Taehyung's words fell short of completion as Lia leaned forward to hug him tightly.
"You were brave to do that, Taehyung..."
"I couldn't let him die," replied Taehyung, "And this will actually work out well for you too if you think about it."
"What do you mean?"
"Now you don't have to decide between us," said Taehyung as he pulled back just enough to look Lia in the eyes. "Now you can just have both of us."
"Excuse me?" said Lia as Taehyung's lips turned up in a grin.
"What? It's true, isn't it? I thought you loved me."
"I do love you."
"And you love Jungkook too, right?"
"Well, yes, but..."
"So there you go! You get two for the price of one body," said Taehyung, "And not to mention that both our sons will have their fathers around."
"That'll be interesting to explain to them someday..." muttered Lia as she shook her head.
"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it," said Taehyung.
"So that necklace helps you both change back and forth fluidly?" asked Lia as Taehyung nodded.
"We're still not one hundred percent sure how it works or if there are any side effects, but so far so good," said Taehyung, lowering his voice to a whisper as he added, "We did learn though that if we're not currently in control, we can't witness anything that goes on just like before."
"Which means what?" asked Lia, feeling her cheeks heat up as Taehyung got a mischievous grin on his face.
"Which means if we should ever want to make Dowoo number two..."
"You are horrible!" snapped Lia, cutting Taehyung off as she slapped him playfully on his arm causing him to cry out, "Don't strike the hero!" The two of them couldn't help but to laugh; both their faces painted red but hidden by the night.
"But anyway..." said Taehyung as they came down from their laughing high, "I am also saying that because Jungkook doesn't know about his son yet. I didn't tell him."
"Oh," said Lia as the smile fell away from her face.
"Don't be scared to tell him though, okay? I know he'll be happy about it. I mean, I'm sure he'll be shocked at first, but then happy."
"Okay," said Lia as Taehyung moved to cup her face in his hands; locking his eyes with her own.
"I'm going to say this now before I go because I think you need to hear it until we meet again," said Taehyung, "But I..."
Lia leaned forward to press her lips against Taehyung's, silencing his words yet again as he shut his eyes and fell into the kiss back. They kissed lovingly yet tenderly for a few moments before Lia pulled back; Taehyung huffing a laugh.
"You didn't even let me say it."
"I know what you were going to say, Romeo. I love you too."
Taehyung smiled at her, nodding his head as he looked down at the necklace he was wearing. Just like Jungkook, the moment Taehyung's fingers touched the gem, the change occurred. Soon Lia watched as he was replaced by Jungkook once more.
'This is really going to take some getting used to,' thought Lia as Jungkook looked over at her.
"So you saw where Taehyung is then?"
"I did," said Lia as she looked at him.
"I hope you don't mind that you have to put up with both of us now," said Jungkook before quickly adding, "Though I suppose you don't have to put up with both of us if you don't want to be with us anymore. I know..."
"Jungkook," said Lia, silencing his words as she moved to hug him tightly again. "As I just told Taehyung, I love you both. Just...you both need to promise you won't disappear again."
"We won't, Lia," said Jungkook as his arms wrapped about her again.
"I can't handle being without you again. That letter you wrote me...it broke my heart."
"I'm sorry I hurt you," said Jungkook softly. "I was just trying to do the right thing."
He pressed a soft kiss to the side of her head as he pulled back to look her in the eyes. Jungkook couldn't help but to notice the look of worry in Lia's eyes; his eyebrows furrowing.
"What's wrong?" asked Jungkook. "Do I have something else to apologize for?"
With a soft grin on her face, Lia shook her head before moving to stand up from the steps. She held out a hand towards Jungkook.
"I want to show you something," said Lia.
Jungkook - who was still puzzled - moved to stand to his feet as he took her offered hand. He laced his fingers through hers as they made their way towards the front door. Opening it slowly, she was grateful to see that Namjoon had taken the liberty of getting everyone else to the kitchen. She could hear all their boisterous voices echoing down the hall from the kitchen as they critiqued Jin and Yoongi's cooking like they were watching a cooking show. Namjoon was the only one that remained in the room where the two bassinets were, seated on the couch and watching the two of them enter hand-in-hand. As Lia shut the door and fully entered the room with Jungkook, Jungkook's eyes widened.
"You...Did you have babies?"
He whirled to face her as she blushed, nodding her head.
"Whose? Is it..."
"Why don't you go see for yourself?" asked Lia; Jungkook dropping her hand to go do just that.
She watched as he made his way towards the bassinet off to the right first, which was where Dowoo was. Jungkook noticed the strands of blue hair and the freckled nose, immediately picturing Taehyung. Lia was half worried he'd explode with jealousy like he had done in the past, but was relieved to see he wasn't doing that. Instead, a soft smile sprouted across his face as he reached down to gently stroke a finger over the side of Dowoo's cheek.
"Taehyung is lucky to have been able to have twins with you," said Jungkook as he looked down at Dowoo.
"Yeah, I guess he is," said Lia. "Would you like to see what the other twin looks like?"
Jungkook nodded his head, still fixated on Dowoo as Lia entered the room to gently scoop Junseo out of his bassinet. Lia walked up to Jungkook, standing beside him as she said, "Here is the other twin."
Jungkook lifted his head and turned, shock taking over his face once more when he saw features on the baby's face that he recognized as his.
"Is he..."
Lia nodded with a faint smile on her face as she said, "This is your son, Junseo."
"My son..." whispered Jungkook with tears in his eyes as he gently took Junseo from Lia's arms without asking, cradling him close to his chest.
Lia watched Jungkook stare dotingly down at Junseo as the tears silently rolled down his cheeks.
'Now I understand why Taehyung wanted so desperately for me to live,' thought Jungkook, thankful more than ever before for Taehyung selflessly saving his life.
