nineteen. the truth hurts

Ari and Jordan looked at each other, both with a look of fear in their eyes. They knew that car all too well, like they had studied it from the inside out, trying to find out what had really happened that night.

"Whose car is this? Maybe we could take it. " Athena suggested, bold for speaking after what had been revealed.

"Shut up. You don't get to speak right now." Andre scoffed, as if she had the right to say anything after lying to them for all this time, even Marie had felt betrayed. She really like the girl, even confessing her feelings for her. Something she had never done to anyone before.

She was silenced, deciding to keep her head down. Ari felt bad for a split second, she did what she had to, but she still wished she would have told her. She trusted her just like she told her she could, and had been betrayed.

"We have to go. I can't do this right now. We have to get out of here." Ari whined. she dint care how she sounded, she hated this scene.

"I think the car is our only escape it looks like Cate is still after us." Marie said.

"I don't think I can, now that I know the truth." Ari wanted to cry, as everything came back to her, that feeling she once had, and the memories Cate restored.

When Cate restored her memories after the party she saw the look on her face, the panicked look. "I'm sorry." Cate whispered then so no one else could hear her. She only knew a fragment of the truth, but it was more than she knew before, and she had assumed that she realized her mistake and kept the truth a secret to Jordan.

"What?" Jordan just looked confused. They thought they knew the whole story.

"There." Ari pointed towards the memory version of herself and Jordan, only a little younger than they were now.

Jordan was keeping a drunk version of Ari from falling over, helping her walk to the car.

"Fuck you." She looked up to them, inches shorter.

"Come on Ari. I'm sorry. You're too out of control right now. And you're distant even when you're sober. We can't be together right now. You know that, and you know I still love you." Jordan looked like every word that came out of their mouth pained them.

The current versions of Ari and Jordan glanced at each other, not hearing "I love you." from each other in so long, and worried about what Andre would think. He didn't say anything.

"I hate you." The drunk version of Ari spit out, but she didn't mean it, and winced now when she heard the words.

"Ari. You don't mean that you're drunk."

"Yes I do."She lied, stopping on the side of the road before she got into the car to puke. They just held her hair back while she did, waiting for her friends to come out of the party.

Minutes later Ari's best friend at the time did. Quinn, a sober blonde came out with her twin sister Lacy holding her hand, Quinns boyfriend Wes was on the other side of her. Lacy was almost drunker than Ari, barely able to walk without guidance.

"Thanks for taking her home." Jordan directed to the only sober person of the three of them.

"Yea whatever..  you're an asshole." Quinn said to them. Though Ari had a different lifestyle at the time the whole reason she got so drunk was because Jordan had broken up with her the night before due to the lifestyle she was living. She got drunk almost every night and distanced herself from everyone. Ari's friends decided they should go to a party to get her mind off of things, so they did. She was already drunk out of her mind when she texted Jordan. They couldn't help but rush over there.

Another drunk girl came out a moment later, asking for a ride home. They knew her from school, but weren't really close to her, still taking her anyways. They would have rather had her ride with them than her attempting to drive drunk and getting in an accident, but she was about to nonetheless.

Jordan helped Ari into the car, having a terrible feeling that something was wrong, so they followed them. And something was.

About a mile out, they noticed another car close behind them, trailing up to the car Ari was in.

They watched as someone rolled their window down and stuck their hand out of the window. Their powers resembling Ari's, as they closed the car in from the inside out. It only shook at first, sending the people in the car skidding through the road, Ari somehow escaped out of everyone before the car crunched up like a soda can.

Jordan didn't even blink as they got out of their car and ran over to Ari, who had managed to blast the door off, and rolled out of the car hitting the road with much impact.

The other car stopped, as everyone got out .

"shit! is everyone okay? It was supposed to be a joke... I didn't mean to." Jayden Moore stepped out first, the obvious culprit.

Ari was on the ground, bleeding from her temple, she wasn't able to do anything.

"We have to call an ambulance... You're a shitty person." Jordan said to Jayden before they ran to Ari, trying to set her up from her back.

"Wait." Someone called out from the car, someone very familiar.

"Cate?" Jordan noticed the familiar girl, who he only  knew because of Luke. She was a new girl he had taken a liking to.

"Let's think about this." She said defensively.

"Think about what? Think about how the person you were in the car with just attempted to kill five people, and might have? No one else is moving."

She stepped closer to them, not giving them an answer, just touching them on the shoulder with her bare hands. "Call the police and tell them there was an accident, but don't mention us, we were never here. Then go to sleep."

They did exactly what she instructed, reaching in their pocket for their phone dialing the number, then passing out on the side of the road.

Cate then went to Ari, who still played on the floor..

"Who are you? What did you do to Jordan?" Ari asked hazily, barely conscious. Cate didn't respond again, she just bent down to touch her arm.

"Forget we were ever here, you did this,  you lost control of your powers and you killed all of  your friends." Cate let out, the very reason for all of Ari's problems.

Cate walked away from the scene, back to the car she came from. "Let's go Jayden. You shouldn't have fucking did that. This is all on you." She was mad at him, but didn't do anything. She owed him everything, as for years they emailed each other when Cate was confined to her room by her mother. Jayden was her best friend, someone she could talk to about everything, despite him being a bully to others.  He had once been her brother best friend, now taking his place as a brother figure to Cate. He was the only one other than Shetty that  understood that her brothers disappearance was just an accident, and figured her powers would be useful to have around, for this exact reason. The car skid off leaving everyone in silence.

The others looked at the current version of Ari who slowly started to crumble in a ball of tears. She hated how weak she looked, no, hated how weak she was. She needed to change. The inability to control her powers wasn't real, it was all just planted in her head.

"Ari." Andre sat beside her on the ground, not caring about anything in the moment but his sister. He had spent so much time thinking she had killed those kids, and was just an uncontrollable monster, but now he saw her as what she really was.. His sister who needed all the love she could get.

Jordan sat on the other side of her for comfort, and to let her know that she wasn't alone, not anymore, but they let Andre hug her in his arms. They knew the accident had destroyed their relationship just as bad as it destroyed theirs.

"Holy shit. I feel fucking terrible. I'm so sorry Ari. I should have known you would never do that." Andre spoke to her in a soft tone, as if he was worried she would break.

"It's okay. You believe me now." She accepted the hug, embracing the exact thing she had been neglected of in the past year, her family.

The three of them just stayed there for a moment, as Marie and Athena stood in front of them awkwardly, a few feet apart, Marie still mad at her.

"Guys.." Athena looked past them, noticing something that hadn't been there before. "There's another door."

"You have to be fucking joking." Ari laughed, a teary laugh. She thought it was just her luck that there was another door.

They had no other option, no other place to go to, when they heard the booming sound of thunder.

"Oh no..." Marie looked scared, her voice breaking, when she realized what it was that Athena was talking about. "I know that door."

A/N: sorry guys I know how crazy rushed this chapter is, and I'll fix it as sooonnn as this story is over, but I just had to get it out there. Also fun fact, I almost made Jayden Cate's little brother Caleb who disappeared and kept a fake identity but thought that would be way too crazy, so hope you enjoy this truth instead. I can always change it but that seemed a little farfetched.
