twenty four. is it over now?
As they walked throughout the halls Ari noticed the people lying dead on the ground, and the chaos just beginning to ensue.
"Maybe it's just me, but this is a little creepy." Ari spoke, disrupting the silence between the two of them.
"I don't think its just you. If I wasn't with you I'd be pissing my pants. Cate's insane, they all are." Jordan said, something Ari heavily agreed on. Even Athena, the girl who was once her bestfriend, was now what she would call a monster.
"We should split up."
"We still have no clue how bad the situation is." Jordan wanted any excuse to stay with her, to keep her safe.
"It kind of seems like we do. They're attacking random students. If I can use my powers, maybe I can stop them."
"I don't want you to."
"Jordan, I can't just stay here and be a burden to you."
"But if something happened to you, I don't think I could live without you again. We've already learned that we're better together."
She looked in their eyes, and gave them a quick kiss, despite the urgency of the situation,
"I love you Jordan, but I've got to go. Now, things are getting worse. I'll meet you back here. " Ari didn't let them say the three words back, the three words that meant so much to them. She was almost scared they wouldn't say it back if given a choice, but she heard Jordan say it from a distance and knew they really meant it.
She went outside, where people were running away.
"Theres a gas station, a few miles that way! You'll be safe there!" She yelled out to the screaming people, confused on where to go.
She was just as confused as them. She really had no clue what she was doing. She couldn't stop anyone without killing them. And she really hoped that would be the last resort.
She just continued walking and telling people where to go, until she walked towards the wrong path. There was a dead body that looked as if the head had exploded from the inside out. It was disgustingly gruesome, so much so that she had to keep herself from throwing up.
She just stood there for a minute until she felt she could move again without vomiting, but only shortly after she started walking again a loud whistle, so loud that it was deafening erupted.
Her hands swifly went to her ears, trying anything to block the noise, but it was not use, not until another deafening sound started, but only for a split second, before it went quiet, besides the noises of running feet hitting the pavement, and screams.
She had no clue what was happening, but she was thankful that the whistling noise was over. She started running now, opposite with the crowd. Forget staying away from Jordan, she was going to protect them. She stopped for only a minute when she got a phone call from one of the board members, entailing her to kill the escaped member of the woods.
She didn't know if she could do it. Killing people wasn't like her. She tried to refuse but they only offered more. A spot on the seven, and a chance to save her dad. She wanted that more than the spot. Now in this moment she didn't care if he wasn't the best dad. She wanted him alive to see him change.
She agreed to it.
The first person she took down was someone with Lazer powers coming from their chest. They tried to blast at her, but she got to them first. She sent them down with a cascade of rocks coming from the ceiling. It felt good. She had a grasp of control now that she knew the truth. It was like Cate stole more than just her memories of the car crash, but the memories of how to use her powers in the first place.
She was enraged, mad at Cate, mad that her father was dying, mad that she was hurting people and that the woods was even a place to begin with. There were so many emotions she felt at once, that she wasn't sure if she could handle any of them at all. She felt like she did without the control of her powers, lost, and almost alone, a feeling she knew all too well.
She wanted to throw the whole school under, to destroy everything around her, but then as she searched for more people from the woods to get rid of she saw her brother. And suddenly she didn't feel alone anymore.
He was using his powers to bring a broken helicopter back to the ground safely.
"Andre!" She ran to him, when it was all down in one piece.
Marie was right beside her, crouching down to his level.
"I'm gonna go stop Cate." Marie said to him, noticing the ammount of pain he was in, and how much it had strained him to save everyone from the crash.
"No, I'll talk to her." He wiped the sweat off his forehead, ready to talk to Cate.
"Andre are you an idiot? You're in no position to do that alone." Ari was worried about her brother, it looked as if he was struggling to even keep himself up.
"I mean..." Marie looked at both of the Anderson siblings. " Guardians Of Godolkin. We all need to do this together. Am I right?"
Ari just nodded. She knew none of them would be able to get to her alone.
"Let's go." He turned, and led them to Cate. They were quick, running at a fast pace. Finding her in no time. They saw her leaning on the campus map, her eyes even more bloodshot than the last time Ari saw her.
"Jesus Cate." Marie said when she noticed her eyes.
"How are you pushing so much?" Andre asked.
"Shetty's medication. I thought she was helping me. She was limiting me."
"Cate just stop. They want us to kill you." Ari spoke, though she never even liked the girl in the first place.
"Is that what you're all going to do?"
"No." Both Marie and Ari shook their heads.
"Cate, shit." Maverick, the invisible RA or perv just like his father translucent, came up to Cate, a mistake to say the very least. "I got this call from vought about kill—."
"Stop her." Cate activated her powers by touching him on the arm.
"You've got it." He took off his hat and glasses, opting for fighting naked in order to be fully invisible.
"Oh shit." Mari backed up first, pulling the others with her.
"Okay, bro." Andre started to freak out, how could they fight someone they couldn't see?
"Maverick?" Ari called out.
"We're on the same side Cate." Andre tried to plead, anything to make it stop.
"Do you really want to be like your dad?" Cate asked before she ran away.
"Stop her! I got this." Marie shouted.
Ari wanted to know what Cate had meant by that, but she just decided to help Marie.
Suddenly there was a hard punch to her stomach, it was a complete surprise, almost knocking her to the ground.
Maverick was invisible, and without being able to see him she stood no chance against him, unless she took out all of the ground around her.
He practically took turns to hit both Ari and Marie, landing a few punches on Marie as well.
"Maverick just hold on." Marie tried to back up, and stay aware of her surroundings. "Can't you like find the real you? Or something?" She called out, as if this was just a scene from a movie, as if it was just as simple as that.
She threw a few punches in the air hoping she would land one. "Like, dig deep or whatever?" Instead he hit her multiple times, before grabbing on to her and sending both of them plummeting into the grass.
She stood up, now with her pocket knife in hand.
"Okay, asshole!" She put the knife back up, like she had an idea. She closed her eyes listening intently to the noises around her, searching for any sign of Maverick. It took a second but she finally found him, signaling for Ari to stop him with a point of her finger.
With her powers Ari lifted a piece of rubble from the ground, and sent it flying towards him with much speed. It soared through the air before hitting him in the stomach with so much power that it knocked him back into his visible form.
"What the fuck?" Marie said as she looked down at him.
"Okay I never thought I would ever be able to actually see him." Ari kept up with Marie as she walked away, noticing Cate walking towards them by herself, with no sign of Andre.
"You're right. Okay? I agree fuck Shetty, fuck our parents." Marie spoke, that being the first thing she said to Cate.
"Marie they asked you to kill me. So if you don't, what's gonna happen?" She asked.
"They'll still try to kill you."
"And they'll try to destroy me."
"Then what choice do we have?"
"Not this Cate, literally anything but this." Ari added in, tired of saying nothing.
"Look Cate, I just wanted to be a hero. Someone my sister could be proud of, but I don't give a shit anymore. I just want to be a good person." Marie looked sad, as she remembered her sister wanted nothing no to do with her.
"But Marie, you're not a person. You're a product to them. A freak. I'm trying to save you..." Cate said directly towards Marie, before turning to Ari. "Both of you."
"You're not trying to save anyone, but yourself. You're killing everyone." Ari looked around at the mass of destruction and debris surrounding them.
"They want to do the same to us." Cate claimed, and she was right, but this wasn't the way to prove a point.
Ari then heard a scream from farther away, noticing Jordan struggling to withstand against three supes from the woods.
"Fuck you!" Ari yelled before she started to run towards them, with a heavy heart. She couldn't let anything to happen to them. From the start of their relationship they had been protecting her, now it was her chance to protect them. No one would touch them, not again.
With her powers she sent three objects she found from the ground into the three bodies trying to stop Jordan. The first one hit a girl with laser powers that was using them against Jordan. It knocked her out in one bang to the head, and the next were the other two who were holding Jordan down.
The girl was knocked out cold, but the other two weren't. Jordan punched on of the guys off of their self, and struggle to get him away.
Then the other guy stood on all fours, running towards the helicopter where the board members were hiding.
"Ari stop them!" They called out.
She had to think of something, anything, and with a simple push of her hand the guy got pulled into the ground, leaving nothing but a sink hole behind.
Everyone was safe, well except for the guy who was now six feet under.
Jordan had killed the other guy with their bare hands, letting out a sigh of relief as everything seemed to be going back to normal, or as normal as it could get.
Ari and Jordan started to walk towards eachother, ready to be together again after being separated for what felt like their own safety.
"Your powers, they're back. I'm sorry I should have never doubted you. I should have known you wouldn't have done anything that night." Jordan said, mentioning the crash. "We could have spent so much more time together."
"Don't be sorry. It's okay, we found our way back to eachother. We have the rest of our lives. We're good together." Ari was about to hug Jordan, to let their warm embrace take her in, to feel safe and secure, but of course something would go wrong, something always seemed to go wrong for them.
Cate came up from behind them, about to touch Jordan's arm with her powers so she could control them.
"No!" Ari looked around and searched for the closest thing to her. It was a sharp metal blade about four inches wide. She sent it flying towards Cate, willing to do anything to protect Jordan. In a swift, vertical motion it sliced the arm reaching towards Jordan off her body completely, falling to the ground.
The sound Cate's arm made when it hit the floor, and the panicked scream from her as she held on to where her arm used to be with the only hand she had left would be engraved in Ari's mind forever.
It was a traumatizing scene, that was interrupted only seconds later.
Homelander flew in, making a rather menacing entrance. Ari feared him for what he did to the plane Shetty's family died in, so she stepped back closer to Jordan.
He looked around at the people whispering about him, and took in the scene.
"Sir I..." Ari started to say as he walked closer towards her and took a look at Cates arm that was now on the ground.
"What kind of animal are you?" He interrupted her.
"What?" She said confused.
"Do you like attacking your own kind?" He asked seriously, with a frightening look to his face.
"No I don't, I didn't..."
"Stay back." He yelled aloud, a malicious smile forming on his face. All Ari saw was the glare of his laser eyes before she was knocked to the floor.
