Part Fourteen: Anything At All

Frisk's POV:

The noise narrowly left my throat as I found myself at the forest's edge, smacking into the Barrier. I could hear a faint ringing and the cold feeling of blood ran down my face from my nose as I attempted to get back up.

They were laughing as they slowed down their chasing pace, getting ready to do the worst they could. I hold a sleeve to my nose as I lean against the Barrier with the other arm, trying not to fall over from the light-headed pain. The first meeting with them came into my mind in flashes whenever they did something to mirror what they had done: a smirk, a tilt of the head, a laugh.

I am able to get myself upright on my own without the Barrier as a crutch and I try to stand my ground. Maybe I'd be able to buy myself enough time for someone to notice the attacks, for Sans to get over here, or something else. I needed to buy time, buy time for whatever may or may not happen.

My hands are shaking slightly as I bring my hand down from my nose, not caring as the snow and ice beneath my feet is dyed crimson red. "Leave me alone," I say with the strongest tone of voice I can, masking the underlying pain and fear.

"We don't plan on doing that, human," The green-monster says with hatred lacing every letter of the word "human," leaving me feeling... less than human.

My eyes are flickering back and forth between the three at a reasonable speed, attempting to keep myself aware of three people at the same time. I could feel my heart and hear my heart beating notably fast in my chest, and I wait for something to happen.

As I look at the green-haired monster one more time, the one behind me takes a leap at me. I step to the side and he dives head-first into a snow drift. My feet are beginning to go numb and I stumble, not able to notice the scaly-monster sneak behind me and hit me in the back with a metal pole. Pain spikes through my entire being as I fall forward, tears inevitable escaping my eyes.

I try to slow my breathing as I begin to pick myself back up, gritting my teeth at the waves of scorching pain that go throughout my body. My hands are shaking by the time I realize that the third monster, with his long clawed hands and dark-grey short hair, is in the midst of taking a swing. Instinctively my hands fly up to protect my face and the familiar feeling of skin tearing sends messages to my brain that tell me: run.

My legs are moving quicker than ever before, quicker than even the first time I had run into someone murderous down here. The three are on my heels as I narrowly dodge trees and branches and thorny shrubs, the blood loss making this activity much harder than the previous time.

"Frisk?!" Sans' voice is echoing somewhere near, but I can't call back, my vocal cords had been shot from the earlier attack.

I begin trying to follow his voice, running towards the only source of safety I had at the moment. Tripping more and dodging less easily, my heart rate begins to climb even more as I realize that two of them are going left and right in an effort to cut me off. Suddenly I stop running, looking around as I pant heavily, trying to be still and listen for his voice.

"Frisk?!" He is close. I start running again, the three of them ahead of me now and most likely confused. Or, at least I hope they were confused.

"No, no," I see the world fall backward as I do the same, my whole body tingling as I stare up at the snowy treetops. "You aren't getting away again. At least, not alive this time."

He grabs my wrist and lugs me up from the ground as I try to pull my arm away. "Stop struggling, you stupid vessel." I fight back the urge to heave as he lands a heavy blow on my stomach, and I finally give up fighting back.

"Frisk?!" Sans is so close, he's so close I can see his face contorted with worry and fear for my safety. If I could only speak... If I could only say a damn word! Anything, any kind of noise at all. Come on, Frisk, say something, anything! Anything! Anything at all!

The trees around me suddenly shake, their stash of snow falling on the both of us. He had a hand clasped over his scaly ear-openings, and only now do I realize that I am... screaming.

I am screaming so loudly that he stumbles to run away from the sound, and the trees around me are leaning backward. This lasts for only a few more seconds before I am out of breath and my whole body trembles. Sans runs into the clearing, not noticing the paranormal appearance of the surrounding area but instead running over to me and hugging me.

"Oh, Frisk, I-I am so, so sorry." He is cradling my shaking figure as he apologizes, doing his best to comfort me as I recover from what had just transpired.

"Did you hear me?" I am able to speak somehow.

"You were screaming. How did you do that?"

I give a definitive shrug through my shaking, and reply, "I have no idea. I had never screamed like that in my entire life... even when my voice is powerful enough to be more than a whisper."

He nods, gathering me closer before teleporting us to the house. We sit on the couch for a while, completely silent as I try to stop hyperventilating. I could feel a power deep within me, fundamental knowledge of something. What that something was? Well, if I knew, I would tell Sans. I would maybe even keep it to myself, to see if it could do some good as it did back there.

"You must have some questions."
