Part Seven: Awkward Conversations
Sans looks at me confused and horrified. I sigh, taking off my coat and hanging it, explaining as I do so. "It's not the first time. I'm the only human down here, one that's lived down here for long. They want me dead."
He replies cautiously, "I'm so sorry. I couldn't imagine how that must make you feel."
I shrug, "Honestly, I've gotten used to it. I'm just constantly prepared for possible attacks. And--It doesn't happen all the time. The monsters in Snowdin are mostly chill, just the few that aren't are always a hassle."
I sit down, and he doesn't. I raise a brow at him and say, "You know that you're here right now, so that means you can settle in a little bit. I'll take you to the hotel later. I just... don't want to risk it. You know?"
He nods, awkwardly walking over and sitting a couch cushion away from me. I sigh, the question that had been irking me this entire time finally bubbling up.
"How did you get here? I mean, I haven't seen you around here before, and I've been here for quite long."
He nervously looks down at his hands, which are nervously clasped together. "Well, uh... I don't really know how I got here. I just... woke up in that store, with you and that other monster there. I..."
"It's okay," I gently and awkwardly pat him on the shoulder, trying to ease his nerves, "If you don't know, you don't know. I know that you might not trust me yet so... if you aren't telling me everything, that's okay."
He nods, and I see his posture ease a little bit. "Thanks."
There is a knock on the door before Papyrus comes in. I have no idea why he started knocking on the door nor why he continues doing it since I know that it's only Papyrus or Sans at the door. Usually.
He looks over at the two of us and smiles, putting his coat on one of the hangers. "Why are you home early from work, Sans?" He asks.
I inhale a breath, opening my mouth, about to reply, but instead Sans walks in a few seconds after. I can feel the whole room freeze, slowly look at one another, and then freak out.
Sans slams the door shut and summons an attack, while Papyrus summons additional attacks.
"Woah, woah!" I raise my voice, cringing in pain since I had been talking too much and too loudly today. "Call down your attacks, I can explain."
"Who the hell is that?" Papyrus asks with confusion and aggression.
"This is Sans--And I realize that there are two Sans, who look exactly the same, and this is really confusing but just... calm down, sit down, and I'll explain. At least, I'll try to explain."
The skelebros slowly lower their defenses and sit down, even though I can see both of them are still very agitated.
"This is Sans, who I found just outside of Snowdin. He was almost frozen to death, so I brought him here--well, I meant to show him to the hotel since that is where he was going to stay originally, but then some monsters started chasing us and so we came here. I know this is weird but... we haven't really gotten time to talk about what happened, and he can't remember how he got here."
The Sans dressed in blue nods nervously.
Both of the skeletons scan the new Sans with terminator vision, and I can see the gears cranking in their skulls as they try to come to a decision. After a good minute of this, they look at each other and nod.
"We'll figure this out," Papyrus says confidently.
I exhale with relief, "Thank you."
"You should probably stay here for tonight," My Sans comments, "It's getting dark out, and the Underground is even more dangerous at night."
"I-I don't want to be a bother." Blue Sans replies with a timid stutter.
"You'd be more of a burden if you went out there. We'd have to worry if you were dust or not." Papyrus replies with a dead-serious tone.
The stars in Sans' eyes become a bit small as he reacts to what Papyrus had just said.
"I forgot I wasn't in my Und--my home."
I frown, curious as to what he was going to say before he cut himself off, but I shrug it off. I had to trust him because he had to trust us. There was no other option for any of us.
I look outside the huge window behind me and see that the sky is scarcely blue anymore since the sun had set so much.
"Yeah, you're going to have to stay for the night." I agree.
He nods, "I'll just stay down here."
"Are you sure? I can--"
"I don't want to bother you. I'll just sleep down here. It's fine, too, since I sleep on the couch all the time." He smiles innocently, something which I had not seen this entire time from him.
I acknowledge with a nod of my head and go upstairs quickly to get something for him to change into. I can still feel the suspicion from the brothers as I go upstairs.
That was one awkward conversation, to say the least.
