Part Sixteen: A Flaw
Sans' POV:
Ink and Blue returned a few minutes later. Frisk got up to greet Blue, giving him a hug. I do my best to ignore the jealousy that ticks in my Soul, knowing that she truly loved me and that Blue was just a good friend.
"Have you two decided?" Ink asks, looking more or less at me as he asks that question. She nods, "I'll go wherever you think is safest. You seem like you know what you're doing and I know you'll do everything in your power to stop this."
He nods, "I am happy we are on the same page."
She walks back and sits next to me. I can feel the warmth from her hand as we hold hands, taking the most time to be with each other before she is gone for... who knows how long. "Blue," Ink addresses him.
"We have decided it would be best for Frisk to go to a remote universe where no one would look for her in order to keep her safe. I was wondering if you wanted to go with her? I-I know that I should take you back to your universe, with your brother, but I worry that Error will only come back for you and take you for even longer. I can only imagine how much you must miss him... I don't want to put you in jeopardy, so I thought I would leave the decision to you." He is speechless for a while, his pupils looking at the dreary brown carpet, pondering the choices.
"You wouldn't be alone if you left," I tell him, doing my best to comfort him. "Frisk is leaving to be protected, too. You two would be there together." Not choking on those words is difficult. His eyes scan the two of us for a moment before moving back to Ink, where he took a short breath in.
"I-I'll go with Frisk. I don't want to put my brother in harm's way... especially if there's a chance that Error could take me again." A shiver chatters through his bones.
"Where... where would we be going?" Frisk asks nervously, giving herself a small hug. She looked as if she was freezing despite being in a heated house.
"You would be going to a universe called Outertale. You'd be left with a few people I stationed there to keep an eye on everyone so I can promise your safety." Ink informs the two of them, gesturing as he went on. I fight the urge to sigh, knowing that this was the best course of action to take. I knew that Ink was powerful and trustworthy, based on how open he had been with all of us. People he had just met. He explains that they would be hidden in a sort of castle, where the Asgore was living, Undyne was stationed, and his man was stationed there: Impact.
"Impact is Papyrus and Mettaton's child in most universes." I begin coughing as I choke on my own breath.
"W-What?" I gasp.
"Oh--" Ink realizes what he has just done. "Uh... An adopted child, of course. That... didn't help my case at all..." He facepalms.
"Ah, yes," Blue is doing his best not to giggle, his face bright blue from holding his breath. "That moment you accidentally out someone's brother to their brother."
Ink's cheekbones light up a florescent rainbow, replying through grit teeth, "It happens sometimes when you know a lot about the universes you visit."
Blue cannot withhold it anymore, and he bursts out laughing. He is nearly toppling over and onto the ground as tears form in the corners of his eyes, the laughing attack too much for him at the moment. Frisk is starting to giggle, and I am starting to do the same. Ink is only getting more embarrassed as he tries to cover up his face and softly scream into his scarf. Soon enough, all three of us are laughing our lungs out and on the brink of tears from laughing so hard. Ink has given up and sits down in the corner, slowly shaking his head. Once we have all collected ourselves, we are able to catch our breath as Ink continues after clearing his throat.
"Anyways... I would recommend packing a small bag for your stay. Impact will be able to help you blend in and get adjusted once you're there." Blue nods and Frisk answers, "Sounds good to me." She goes upstairs to go and get her bag.
I do my best to remain positive, at least until she's gone and I can begin coping. Or, doing my best to cope. Looking at the two others Sans in the room I feel... oddly comfortable? Maybe it is because I am in a room with two other me's, but I feel calm around them. Then again, I really had to trust them, primarily considering I was putting Frisk's life in their hands. The silence keeps going for a while until there is a loud thumping noise from upstairs. "Frisk?" I call, wondering if she had broken one of those old drawers. No response.
I begin my way up the stairs before I realize that it wasn't a broken drawer, but an attack. "Frisk!" I body check the door open to see a strange monster hovering above the ground, blue strings cast around the room as if a giant blue spider had taken the bedroom for itself.
"Let her go!" I demand, the charges behind my back ready at the flick of a wrist. "H-Haah-h-ahha," It begins to laugh, turning to look at me. It was another Sans?
"What the--?" My balance is thrown off as something wraps around my ankle and yanks my leg out from underneath me. An audible grunt escapes from my throat as I teleport over to this Sans from on the ground, sending the attacks towards him. My body is suddenly hung up in the strings, wrapping around my limbs and keeping me from teleporting closer. I struggle against the blue strings, trying to get closer to him to attack him.
"Error!" I recognize Ink's voice. "Stop this, right now!"
"There is o-o-one flaw in your p-plan, Ink." He laughs again. "Y-Y-You thought we w-would leave h-h-her alone for long enough." My Soul skips a beat as I see he has Frisk tied up in the corner, a series of strings wrapped around her mouth to keep her from speaking.
"You'll pay for that!" I threaten, trying to break free from the strands.
"Stop, Error! I don't want to hurt you!" His voice cracks slightly, and I am able to glance back and see that he is hesitating to fight Error. I try to suppress my grunts as the strings tighten around my limbs, cracking noises audible as he does his worst work. Within a few seconds Ink is in motion, cutting at the strings as he leaps towards Error. Somehow, I catch myself before slamming into the ground and I am running towards him as I send attacks.
He lifts Frisk off of the ground and begins to tighten the strings, her struggling against the tightening around her body. "Frisk!" She doesn't have time to attempt as response as a portal opens behind her and the strings throw her into it.
"No!" I scream and try to grab her hand, but the portal closes mere seconds before I can. "Damn it!" I yell as I smack into the wall, Error chuckling menacingly behind me.
"F-F-Fools," He sends a rope bundle worth of strings towards Ink and me, tripping us up long enough for him to escape through a portal. My vision is blurred as I tear up, aggressively slicing the string off of me. "Sans, I am so sorry, I should--"
"You should have known! You should have known that she wouldn't be safe alone! You promised, you promised you would protect her!" My powers are narrowly being restricted at this point, my urge to turn this skeleton into dust growing stronger.
"I-I know I did, I-I'm sorry!" He falters away from me. "I'll get her back, I'll do everything I can to protect her. They won't get to her, she's strong."
"I was supposed to protect her!" I snap, the tears finally falling as I break down. "I was supposed to protect her! I told her that I would be here and that she would be here, too! I can't... I don't... I don't want her to..."
"Hey," My urge to jump back is strengthening as he places his skeletal hands on my shoulders, making me look him in the eye sockets. "Don't think like that. She is a strong girl, even if sometimes she falls. She won't give in to them, she will fight, and I will get her away from them and back to you. I won't let them take her away from you, I won't let them win."
There isn't another choice. I can't help her, I don't have the ability to travel through these different "universes" like Ink. I have to trust him, I have to trust that this is happening for a reason. I have to trust Frisk, and I do truly trust her. So, despite my stomach twinging as I say this, I say it. "I trust you. I know you can get her back."
He nods, "I will get her back."
