Epilogue
2 years later...
Zia pushed her hair out of her eyes as she stepped out of the library. She had not known that the rural village on which she had found a new life will hold answers to the questions she had found so long ago. The diary which Kim had written so long ago was in her hand and a couple of papers were even clutched in her grip. She went towards the taxi and got in, asking the driver to go towards her house. She lived in a small single room house which she had rented out from the only other doctor in the village. Even though Zia had never wanted to go back towards whatever she had left when she was coming here, she had always wanted to know how the story had ended. The diary which she had fatefully come across had not held all the answers she needed to know, and she had had a clue which had led her towards the only and the oldest library in the village.
Zia stared out of the window and smiled with the driver as she paid the fair and got down in front of her home. She had got out of work for the evening and was coming home to a peaceful night. The door creaked slowly as she pushed it open, and Zia stepped inside. She went towards her room and shut the door behind her as she went to take a shower. After a cold shower, Zia adjusted the chain around her neck looking at her reflection from the mirror. Leaving her hair wet, she sat on the table and pulled the diary towards her. She had read it more than a few times and had wondered what had happened to Kim and her unborn baby after William's funeral service. Kim took a deep breath and she looked at the extra papers which she had collected from the library.
Zia first examined the birth certificate of a boy named William, some months after the last date of the diary entry. She stared at the details and realized that the baby was the son of Kim and William, whom Kim had named after his father. She wondered what had happened to Kim after that and gasped as she read the next sheet of paper. It was a death certificate, and it was of Kim's. Zia rubbed her forehead as she felt tears form behind her eyes once more. She had known that Kim had grown too weak to bear the child and now she had known that she had died during the child birth. Zia wondered who might have brought up little William and guessed that it might be the old Linda, who had been more than just a motherly figure for Kim. Zia sighed and she kept both of the papers aside and turned, when her hand knocked carelessly on the diary, which fell onto the floor. Zia bent down to retrieve the diary when her eyes fell on a page in the middle of the diary, which had an entry written by a new hand. Her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion, Zia picked up the diary and turned towards the page which she had missed.
Grandma Linda took good care of me, ever since I was born. Even though I wanted to know who my mama and papa were, grandma Linda and Uncle Tom had told me that they were dead. Uncle Tom told me that my papa was an RAF Pilot Officer who was killed on an air crash and that my mama who was weakened after knowing about his death, died giving birth to me. I never knew my parents, but I miss them a lot. My uncle Tom took care of me after my grandma died when I was ten years old. Even though I don't like to write much, when I read the diary, my mother had written I realized that it needed a conclusion and wrote one myself, even though the diary was not written for fifteen years. Just like my uncle always tells me, to make my papa proud of me, I will join the Royal Air Force when I turn eighteen and serve my country, just like my papa had done before me. Me being the living proof of my mama's and papa's love, I believe that they are looking at me from far above and have been with me ever since.
Zia sighed and closed the diary. She held her forehead and blinked hard as she stared at the diary. She felt sad thinking about little William and felt grateful for the entry he had written. She had most of her doubts cleared now and she turned her attention towards the final paper she had not read yet.
Zia did not know why, but her heart beat faster as she took the last paper onto her hand. She scratched her eyebrows as she stared at the wrinkled old paper in her hands and realized that it was a letter. Wondering whether it was what she was thinking it to be, Zia opened the letter and started to read.
My darling Kim,
I am so sorry darling. I am sorry for leaving you that day in our home alone. If you are reading this letter, it means that I never kept on my promise and did not return back to you. I don't know how much I regret my decision now, darling. I feel so sorry for ever coming away from you. War in this part of the country is too harsh now. I wish that I would meet you once more and tell you all about it, but I don't know whether I will be able to tell them for you myself darling.
I miss you so much darling. I miss you so much. You have no idea how much I miss you, my darling Kim. Days hear are so long and I wonder when I will come back to you. Even though I am writing this letter, before I go on the mission which will decide whether I will come back alive or not, I wish that all will turn out well and that I will come back to you, my darling.
Every waking moment I have spent away from you, I only think of you, Kim. I know that you might be feeling so lonely yourself, but I did not have a choice but to leave you alone when I came to the camp. I have always dreamed of a future for the both of us, but as I write this letter, I know that that dream will always be only a dream and none of it will ever come true darling. I wonder how things might have turned up if I was not an RAF pilot and that if I was just a boy who was madly in love with you. Even though I have expressed my love to you so many times already, I wonder whether I have done justice in making you know how much I actually love you.
Though I am far and far away from you, from the moment I wake up to until I sleep, I miss you. Nights are harder in a way because I miss you holding in my arms while you drifted to sleep but it is better in a way because I will finally be able to see you in my dreams, darling. I know you will be tired of waiting for me, but please wait a little more. If we do not meet in this life once more, I promise that I will come back searching for you in my next life, darling.
Call it fate, call it love, or even call me stupid. But I have always known that you are the one for me, ever since the moment my eyes finally found yours that day in the bar. Ever since that day, I have known that our meeting was fateful, and that fate brought us back together. Spending days with you had been the best and I always regret them whenever you are not with me darling. I know that you will also be missing me, but please don't miss me too much. I can't even bring myself to think that you are worried about me, and are worrying about me darling. As a husband who has his wife's best interest at heart, I know that I should ask you to find another life with a better man who can better provide for you with love, but I will not, darling. I am too jealous to even think of that and the only thing that I will say is, that I will find you once more. I know that even you will never ever replace me, and that will be looking for me darling.
So, before I part my ways forever with you, I promise to look for your chocolate brown eyes whenever, wherever, or however we will meet once more, my darling Kim. Like you have always said, our love was written in the stars, and it was fated to be meant to be, darling. And I know that I will definitely find you, because when it is fate, there is no any coincidences, darling.
Until we meet in our next life, I send you tons of love for you with this letter darling. Even though we are far and far apart, you are forever in my heart and will forever be in my arms, my darling Kim.
I love you, like I need oxygen to live, and I need air in my lungs, darling.
Maybe when I meet you the next time, I will show how much I love you and how badly I had missed you, my love.
Until then, even though I know that even after death we will not part, I send you thousands of hugs and kisses with this letter, my darling Kim.
Please wait for me and look for my eyes in all of our lives.
Death is not the end, darling.
I love you so much, my darling Kim!
Your love,
Will
Zia bit her lips and she dried her eyes and traced the little heart William had used to sign his name with. She wondered why fate had to be so unkind to all the kind people who just yearned for love. She dried her cheeks and carefully folded the old letter and placed it carefully inside the diary and went towards her bed. With her heart heavy, even though she finally knew what had happened to the two lovers in her heart, Zia turned to her side and sighed heavily as her eyes fell on the photograph which was there on the side of her bed.
It was the same photo that she had had on the side of her bed in the apartment she had shared with her best friend Lily. As her eyes fell on the photo of the man she had once loved whom she was still in love with, Zia wondered how he was now. She wondered whether he had gone back to being a pilot, or whether he had chosen something else as his profession. As tears started to burn behind her eyelids once more, Zia switched on her phone and stared at his handsome face on her lock screen. The photo which held memories of a day well spent, as he was staring sideways at her, while she was looking into the camera, Zia pressed her lips onto his image as her heart started to ache once more.
Zia had thought that living somewhere else will be easier for her, but she could not have been more wrong. Every waking moment, her mind had easily gone towards him. Every sleeping moment, she had been in his arms while she was in a dreamland where nothing was able to make them part their ways. She wondered whether the love she still had in her heart will ever gets lesser, but she knew that the answer will be no. Whether he loves her or not, whether he remembers her or not, Zia knew that he will always be the man with whom she fell in love with and that the love she has for him in her heart, will never ever be lost, for she knew that he was the love of her life.
*
Zia clutched her shawl closer to herself and tried to push her hair back from out of her eyes as the cold wind wavered her clothes around her. She started to shiver against the cold as she waited for the traffic sign to turn green, for she had been standing too long to cross the road against the one or two taxis which were driving, Zia waited impatiently. She looked up at the sky and saw that it looked too heavy, and she wondered whether the snow would fall at least that day, as the weather forecast had predicted.
Zia looked up and she pulled her shawl around her neck, covering her chin against the cold wind as the traffic sign turned green. She hurried forwards as her phone pinged a notification and she took it out to see whether it was something important. She crossed the road and turned towards the pavement. She tried to switch on her phone with her numb fingers and chucked angrily as the phone did not switch on.
BANG!
Zia cursed herself as she saw the phone fly out from her hands, and she rubbed her forehead as she bumped headfirst onto someone's hard chest. She gasped and tried to look for her phone when the first snow falls of the season fell lightly onto her shoulders. Absentmindedly forgetting her phone for a second, Zia looked up at the sky as a smile went up her lips and she turned towards her front and gasped as she stopped where she was as her eyes fell on the man who was in front of her. Zia knew that she was dead.
For she had just seen those blue eyes, which she had been searching for all her life...
Zia stared open mouthed at him, as he bent down to take the fallen phone and he stared at the photo of him on the lock screen. Zia's hand was covering her opened mouth as she waited for him turn around and look at her. She knew that she was dreaming when he finally looked up straight into her eyes.
Zia knew that she was dead. Her insides started to melt as her eyes found his blue ones and she saw the realization starting to sink in his eyes. She felt tears of happiness form behind her eyelids as she saw him come closer towards her. Zia did not break her eye contact and she kept on staring into his eyes as he came towards her and stood too close to her, so that they were standing touching each other's toes.
"Your phone..."
Vian whispered as he looked down at the switched on lock screen of the phone and gave it to Zia. She looked down and felt her cheeks turn red as she saw that he had seen his photo on her lock screen.
"Thank you..."
Zia whispered as she took the phone into her hands. She put it inside her pocket and wondered what to do now that he was finally in front of her once more.
"Look at me..."
Zia's head automatically followed his voice as she finally looked up once more into his blue eyes. He looked just like she remembered him, as handsome as he had been. As her cheeks started to turn red in shyness, Zia was pleased to see a soft smile creep up along his lips, like she had seen so many times before.
Vian's eyes searched through hers as he finally found comfort in looking at her chocolate brown eyes. Her eyes, which he had been searching for so long, were finally in front of his own. He felt his heart beat louder as he stared at her. His eyes went down towards her neck and a soft smile crept up his lips as he saw that she was still wearing that chain which he had gifted her a long time ago.
As the whole world stopped its rotation and only the first snow of the season fell onto them, their eyes found each other's once more. As words that were not spoken for many long years, finally continued their conversation by staring into each other's eyes, as they finally found their better half after a long time, they found themselves falling for each other once more, for they knew that their love was written in the stars.
When it is fate, there is no any coincidences...
Zia remembered the words she had read the previous night in a letter written by a lover, she realized that they were actually fated to be met.
As love overflowed from their eyes, when her chocolate brown eyes finally, finally, found his blue eyes and their hearts started to race past each other once more, Zia's hands went around his neck as Vian's hands went around her middle and she pressed her cheek onto his shoulder as he lifted her up off of her feet, hugging her too tight, not letting go of each other, when their hearts beat louder against each other's chest, for they knew that now that they were met once more, they will never ever let go of each other. After what felt like an eternity as they hugged each other in the falling snow, as they put all of their unspoken emotions into that single hug, they finally loosened each other's hold and gasped for air as their eyes met once more and their eyes spoke with each other, unspoken words and promises exchanged through each other's eyes, as their eyes screamed the names of the love of their lives, whom they had been longing too long to meet once more for they knew that they were star crossed lovers.
Kim...
William...
