->Chapter Five<-
The five teens made their way to the fancy hotel, the occasional crunch of glass or rocks splitting beneath their feet. The red building seemed to be surprisingly intact as only one chunk of wall was missing near the base of the hotel.
"One block to go." Atlas said out loud, eyeing up the buildings around them.
No one said it out loud, but everyone was becoming slightly nervous. If there were other survivors, that was likely where they'd be. Other survivors weren't always a good thing. Some would probably kill over a can of food or a bottle of water.
After what felt like months, they finally reached the gaping hole in the side of the hotel. There was about two feet of wall remaining from the bottom, which the teens all hopped over.
The lobby was massive, impressive even in its ruins. Under concrete dust and fallen furniture, a nice carpet with beautiful floral designs was visible. The walls were a nice solid color that was no longer distinguishable, with little strips of floral wallpaper bordering the bottom of the wall. The lobby desk was mostly intact, except for a demolished edge, which a large light fixture had taken out when it had fallen.
"Wow..." Silver whispered, voicing everyone's thoughts.
"Okay, we should try the door behind the desk first." Ryft suggested, motioning to the dark wood door. "There's bound to be something."
No one objected, so they made their way to the door, doing their best to avoid making to much noise.
Fang was first to reach the door. He reached out and turned the handle slowly, then flinging it open suddenly. This caused everyone to jump.
"Fang!" Ryft said between clenched teeth. "Now is not the time!"
"I wasn't trying to scare you." Fang replied. "I was trying to scare anyone behind the door."
He walked on without a pause, leaving Ryft to glare in his direction.
Ryft and Fang didn't seem to be getting along at all lately, as their personalities didn't mix well.
Atlas ran into the room, Ryft, Silver, and Raven following quickly.
The room was relatively small, it's only light source from a hole the size of a frisbee in the ceiling.
There were water bottles stacked on a shelf in the back, next to them some boxes of instant ramen and macaroni.
"Woah! Jackpot!" Atlas squealed, dashing over with Silver not far behind.
The teens stuffed as much as they could carry into their bags, then turning and leaving the small dark room.
Suddenly, Raven's head swiveled towards a pillar next to the corner of a hallway. "Look!" She walked hurriedly over to it. "A health kit! I thou- AH!"
Raven screamed loudly, only it seemed to have two layers. No, someone else was screaming, too.
Ryft in the lead, the rest of the teens charged over to Raven, quickly spotting her face-to-face with another girl.
The new girl seemed to be relatively pale and on the shorter side of tall. She had shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. She wore a black Infernal Devices tee-shirt.
"I'm sorry!" She yelped. "I didn't mean to take your health kit!" She backed off. "I knew I heard voices, but I thought they were farther away."
"No, it's fine, you can have it!" Raven objected, backing off as well. "You might need it more than we do."
The other girl only just seemed to notice Raven's friends behind her.
"Oh, uh..." She was clearly uncomfortable. "I'll just get going then..."
"No, it's fine!" Raven objected. "What's your name?"
"J-Jade." The girl answered, moving a piece of hair behind her ear. "And you?"
"Raven." She then pointed to all of her friends. "And that's Fang, Ryft, Silver, and Atlas."
"Cool.." Jade still seemed unsure, as if she wanted to stay, but wasn't sure if she was allowed to.
"You should join us!" Silver called from behind.
"Yeah, we don't bite! Well, except for Fang. Keep on his good side!" Atlas joked, causing Fang to look over at Atlas and make a face.
"Uh, if you don't mind, I'd love to." Jade smiled slightly. "It's so lonely on my own here."
"Yay!" Silver cheered, though Ryft looked unsure.
"We should head back, though." Fang looked somewhat uneasy for once. "I have a bad feeling something's wrong."
Everyone else seemed to agree. The sun was moving gradually past noon, and even though they had plenty of daylight left, they decided to return home.
--
The teens walked down the street to the bunker, dragging their supplies behind them. Suddenly, Fang and Atlas froze, motioning for everyone to stop.
Everyone saw quickly what they had seen. The bunker door was open.
And there was at least one figure standing in front of it.
Atlas motioned for everyone to spread out and form a half circle around the intruders so they couldn't run off. Everyone moved quietly into position, and Fang stepped out.
"Hey." He said angrily.
It was clear now that there were two people. They both looked up and immediately began to run to the right, nearly colliding with an angry Atlas and Jade. They jumped back, and seeing as they were surrounded, stayed in the middle of the circle, taking up defense positions.
They were two girls, both teens, with bandanas pulled over their noses. One was tall with long blonde hair and a red bandana, and one was shorter, with short brown hair tied back in a turquoise hair tie and a turquoise bandana.
"What are you doing with our stuff?" Growled Ryft, her anger almost wolf-like.
"Borrowing it." Hissed the tall one. "Hope you don't mind."
"Yeah, I'm sure you wouldn't miss it." Snarled the shorter one.
They both were composed, yet unsure, as if they knew they were caught but wanted to stay intimidating.
Nearly everyone saw right through the act.
"Drop it." Fang's face was scrunched up with anger. "Drop it where you are, and we'll let you go."
The girls looked from the supplies to Fang.
"W-wait, wait." The shorter one stammered. We could make a deal."
"Yeah, we can settle this, I'm sure."
The two were clearly desperate to keep their stolen goods.
Fang opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by a blood curdling scream of a girl that echoed through the street.
