Chapter 19 - Not Quite Expected
THANK YOU FOR 1K FOLLOWERS <333
You were left stunned at his question. You thought of it for a moment. Do you know anyone from the Revolutionary Army? Besides Luffy's dad, you don't know anyone from there; and the two of you didn't even met once.
You shook your head. "No, I don't know anyone from the Revolutionary Army. Why?" You answered. "Thought so." Shanks replied. Things were getting serious right now. "As you know, it's almost time for the Supernovas to awaken once more. The Marines are preparing for that very moment. I don't know why the Revolutionary kept quiet too. Maybe they want to strike once the Marines are occupied with the Supernovas. Either way, the only thing that they have done during these years was to keep their eyes open for somebody. And that's you." Shanks explained the situation.
You were shocked. Why you? What have you done, this time, to be hunted down by revolutionaries? Kou started to get fussy as well. You set him on the ground and then sighed as you rubbed your forehead.
"Great." You mumbled. "I don't understand what the Revolutionaries want from me. The only person I know from there is Dragon and that's only by name." You sighed. "Now I have both Marines and Revolutionaries after me. Amazing." You said sarcastically.
"Don't expect the worst right away. Maybe the Revolutionary want to offer you protection." He said. "I don't know... I feel like at this point everyone is trying to kill me." You replied. "But I wish that was the case..." Mumbling your words, you began to play with your fingers. You hated this feeling. This was one of those moments in which you had no control over the situation.
"I heard that their No.2 is the one searching for you. I didn't really caught the name." Shanks paused. "I think it was Sabo if I remember correctly." The moment you heard the name, your eyes widened. Sabo? As in Ace's late brother?
"You know him?" Shanks asked seeing your reaction at that name. "Uhh, are you sure it was Sabo? I mean..." You asked. "Yeah, pretty sure it was Sabo now that I give it a second thought." Shanks replied. You sighed in relief but you were still shocked and surprised.
"Yeah, uh, I know that guy. In a way." You answered. You looked towards Kou, who was now making friends with Yasopp. You smiled. "I can't believe he's still alive. If only Ace was alive too... So many things revealed themselves right after he died." You mumbled.
"Oh, well that's a relief if you know him." Shanks said. You nod. After a few more drinks, Shanks finally realized that someone was missing. "Where's Makino?" He asked. You sighed. "I already told you. Somewhere on the island. I don't really know where. She didn't left any note."
"Maybe, she's in danger." He said as he played with his glass. Your sweat dropped. He's a sentimental drunk... Taking advantage of the situation, you decided to ask him about their relationship. "So, what are you going to ask her?"
He sighed. "It's stupid..." He said. "I don't know what has gotten in me. I can't think straight if I don't know for sure that she's going to wait for me. I know it's selfish, but I love her. I don't want to lose her." He continued. Your heart melted right away. This was the most sweetest thing you ever heard from a guy.
"So, you're gonna ask her to marry you?" You asked with a smirk. "Mhmm." He nod right away. "You know, she loves you too. She always smiles whenever she talks about you. She really missed you." You said as you rested your head on your palm. "I'm glad." He smiled.
Something about this reminded you of Ace, unintentionally. Their love was so strong. They knew each other for years and yet, none of them even tried to go on a date or something with someone else. Even though they were oceans away from each other, you loved the fact that they stayed loyal to one another, even though none of them said a word about that.
Your thoughts were interrupted by the bar's door opening really loud. Makino ran in the bar and stopped the moment she saw Shanks. Shanks stood up. Both of them were surprised and the only thing that they wanted was to hug each other. However that didn't happen.
They stood there in silence. None of them moved, they just looked at each other. Just as Shanks was about to say something, Makino opened her mouth. "Since when are you here? You could've send a message, you know?" She chuckled and walked past Shanks.
"Well, I wanted to surprise you." He said.
His crew, including you, stopped drinking and eating. They were staring at the scene happening in front of them.
Makino didn't said anything else. She just went in the kitchen but was followed by Shanks. She didn't stopped walking until Shanks grabbed her hand. "Makino wait." He said. "What's wrong?" He asked. "Why did you come Shanks? Just to make fun of me?" She asked. "Just as you did last time I told you my feelings?"
"I wasn't making fun! Look, Makino, I have to tell you something, that's why I came here." He said. "Oh let me guess, you're a Yonko. You're too dangerous for a girl like me. I understand. But do you think I actually c-" Before Makino could finish the sentence, Shanks kissed her.
After they broke the kiss, Makino was left stunned. "Why did you do that?" Makino asked. "Because I love you. That's the reason why I came here. I needed to tell you this." Shanks said. His hands never left Makino's cheeks. Makino smiled. She could almost start crying.
"I have to ask you something important. I know we just started this relationship at this level but... Will you marry me?" He asked as he pulled out a ring. Makino gasped. This time, she really cried. "I knew I loved you from a very long time actually. I was too much of a coward to do that. You are so sweet, gentle with everybody. Never met anyone like you. That's why, I'm asking you the most selfish thing I can."
Makino shook her head. She smiled at him and pulled him into a hug. "Of course I'll marry you." She answered. Shanks couldn't be more happy. He began to laugh. He lifted Makino up and hugged the life out of her. "Let me go!" She laughed. "Not a chance! From this moment on, I'll never let go." Shanks slowly said as he leaned for another kiss.
Outside the atmosphere was different. You left the bar with Kou for a while since it started to stink of alcohol and everybody was getting drunk. You held Kou's hand as his little feet tried to stay balanced.
You walked towards the shore. Kou always loved water. Whenever he would see it, he would always let out a laugh and try to run towards it. You felt so bad whenever you would think about the fact that Kou will grow up without a father figure in his life.
"Daddy would be very proud of you." You said as you hugged Kou. A few moments of silence followed. You held Kou close to you as the both of you watched the sparkling ocean. Kou let out a squeal as some waves got close to his feet. But the silence was interrupted by a small cute voice.
"Dada."
Your heart stopped. Did- did he just said his first word? "Did you just said dada?" You asked him. His little eyes met your and he let out a giggle. "Dada!" He said with more confidence. You almost started to cry. "Yeah, good job!" You clapped. He began to repeat that word over and over.
"If only you were here..." You mumbled.
