Chapter 24 - After All These Years
Your heart was beating so fast as if you just a marathon. You've been dreaming of this moment ever since your memories came back, two years ago. For two years, you thought that this man, standing in front of you, this man who was your child's father, was dead. Even though you could feel him, even though it felt real, you still weren't sure if this was reality.
Something about him seemed different. He seemed more thin, more fragile. Well, he did take a lava punch straight into his chest, which brings the question, how did he survived? Your heart was now resting easily knowing that your fear of your son not growing up with a father figure was now gone. You weren't alone anymore.
Ace felt the same. He felt so relieved knowing that you were safe and sound. He was so relieved to know that his son was healthy too. He had to admit. There were nights in which all he thought about was you and his unborn child. There were nights in which he cried thinking of the possibilities of either you or his child being dead. He cried feeling all alone in those nights.
But today, after all these years which felt like an eternity for both, the two of you finally reunited. Clenching each other, chest to chest, listening to each other's heartbeat, you now felt complete. You felt so lucky.
"But how?" You asked slightly confused as to how he survived. Ace caressed your cheek but did not answered. "It's a long story." He sighed. "I'll promise I'll tell you everything in detail once we get somewhere safe. For now, we have to find Luffy." His tone signalized that he was in a hurry. "And we have no idea where he might be." He mumbled as he held you close to him. Sabo's words crossed your mind and you let out a small gasp. "I think I have an idea."
And so, you, Ace and Marco walked towards the Colosseum. "But wait." You suddenly stopped. "If you still have the Devil Fruit power, how come the prize for today's fight is..." You stopped in mid-air. Ace tilted his head in confusion. "What's the prize?" He asked. "The Mera Mera no Mi." You replied. Both on Ace's and Marco's face was displayed confusion. "What?" Marco asked. "The Mera Mera no Mi? No way. I still have my powers." Ace repeated your words. You shrugged.
Neither of you had a slight clue as to why the Mera Mera no Mi was the big prize. There's no such thing as two exact same Devil Fruit's. Unless, that was a fake. It didn't look like one though. "The whole was so sure you were dead that... A new Mera Mera no Mi was created." You said under your breath. "I was dead." Ace replied immediately. You furrowed your brows. "So, you actually died at the war?" You would've cried right now if your eyes weren't hurting from earlier crying. "I told you, it's a long story. Yes, in a way, I died." Ace explained.
"Maybe, when you died for those two minutes, maybe that's all that it took to start the creation of a new Mera Mera no Mi." Marco stated the facts. The three of you stood there quietly thinking about that possibility. "So now there are two Mera Mera no Mi's? This is really bad. We can't let some stranger get their hands on that Devil Fruit." Ace said quietly. "I'm pretty sure Luffy signed up." You said as you started to walk, again, towards the Colosseum.
And so it was. Once the three of you found a free spot, one particular warrior stood out the most.
"Lucy takes down the giant!" "Lucy wins this round!" "Lucy-" "Lucy-"
"Something about this Lucy seems familiar." Ace said sarcastically which made you chuckle. "Yeah, like I've met this old man before." You played along. "Wait, where's Hack?" You asked quietly. "Who's Hack?" He asked you. "Um... We came here together. He's a revolutionary." You replied. Just as you said that, the Den Den Mushi that Sabo gave you in case of emergency started to ring. You furrowed your brows as you answered the call. It was Hack. "What happened?" You asked. "I tried." He replied. You chuckled and shook you head. "If it weren't for 'Lucy', I'm pretty sure Sabo would've gone mad." You replied. Hearing that familiar name, Ace's head turned immediately to you. His eyes widened. No, it's sure a misunderstanding. There's no way that that Sabo was his late brother.
"I heard from Koala that he's going to give Luffy a little greet. He's pretty nervous." Hack said. "I bet." But then, you looked towards Ace and saw he was in shock. He realized, as much as he tried to dismiss it, that Sabo was in fact his dead brother. "We'll talk later." You said before ending the call. "What?" Ace asked you. "I have to tell you something."
After hearing the news that his brother was alive, he stood up and ran towards the room where all the fighters were now having a little break. He heard it alright. This was their chance. After all these years, they will finally get reunited. He remembers vividly Sabo's letter. Who knew that those words written black on white would've actually come true.
The three brothers were now going to meet once again.
Well, I have to admit that it's a little rushed. I'm trying so hard right now since I haven't watched Dressrosa yet XD
Also, Ace's 'death' will be explained later. Like later.
ALSO, for all of you Draco M. lovers, I got a one-shot published. It's called Paralyzed. If you want to check it out go ahead. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out and with the complex grammar with detail that I added.
