Chapter 29 - The Truth
The girl gulped as she felt the sudden need to get out of there, as soon as possible. It seemed that she started to finally sense the danger around her.
It's been an hour since Doflamingo's little visit. Ever since he gave a little hint of your 'power' you couldn't help but think about what he could mean by it. You couldn't bring yourself to imagine what he was talking about.
You tried to stop your mother's bleeding as she began to lose blood once she moved in pain. Ripping some fabric from your shirt, you pressed against the bleeding and held her hand.
It's been a while since she has seen her mother. Looking at her, it only reminded her of her father and his cruel ways. It was all his fault. Everything was his fault. She once thought she could forgive him but now? After everything he has done, if they ever were to meet again, she wasn't sure if she could last a second without trying to kill him on the spot.
Her pregnancy was absolutely painful, both physically and mentally. The worst part about was the fact that she didn't even cared about herself at that time. All she ever wanted was to give birth and die. She felt absolutely broken. But then, after remembering everything, she got slapped by reality and knocked some sense into her.
"(Name)?" Her mother's trembling voice brought her back to reality. You looked down at her. She was trying so hard to stay awake, the pain written down on her face.
"Mom, what happened?" You gulped as you held her hand tighter than before. She began to cough violently. "Don't worry about me. Y-you have to get out of here." She said as she tried to stand up but failed.
"We have to get out of here. You have internal bleeding, most likely some broken ribs as well. If I leave you here, you will die." You said as you slowly pushed her back.
"N-no. Leave me be. I will o-only slow you down. You can g-get out of heresudden our own. Listen." She began as she grabbed your shoulder and stood up. "I heard what that damn Doflamingo talked about. I felt it too. You're amazing, y-you know that right?" She hissed as she felt a sharp sudden pain.
"W-what do you mean? What is this power anyway?" You asked hesitantly.
She closed her eyes for a second. She didn't actually expect you to realize you were even doing something. After all, to be able to control such power needs hard training and concentration.
"Have you ever h-heard of haki?" She asked, holding her breath. You furrowed your eyes. "Yes, of course. " You answered.
"There are three types of Haki: the Observation Haki, the Armament Haki and lastly, the Conqueror's Haki. While the Observation and the Armament Haki can be obtained through training while the Conqueror's Haki is a very very rare ability." She stopped for a moment. Looking at the ceiling and then back at you, she seemed somehow to be hesitant about telling you.
"(Name)... You posses that rare ability. That's why he didn't kill you on the spot. That's why he was testing you." She said as she closed her eyes.
You looked at her in surprise as your heart was pounding in your chest. Having Conqueror's Haki was something absolutely unimaginable as you always thought you never had to offer anything special.
"No way..." You thought out loud. "I know it's a lot to take in, but you will understand everything in time." She gave you a small smile.
"But mom, what happened? Why are you here?" You asked.
"There's a reason why I was part of Roger's crew back in the days." She said as she slowly began to remember the good old days. "You see, I ate a devil fruit a long time ago." She confessed making you look at her with eyes wide open.
You never knew she was a devil fruit user.
"The devil fruit was called the Shou Shou no mi. I allowed me to control the energy around me. The only reason why I was wanted by the Marines, years after Roger's death, was because of my ultimate power. I don't know how it got leaked but during our last expedition, I was able to learn what exactly was my ultimate power. The Marines found out and immediately, after Roger's death, they searched my whereabouts."
Her mother let out a sigh. Going all the way back wasn't exactly something she enjoyed talking about. But her daughter needed to know everything.
"What was your power?" Her daughter asked.
"I was able to bring the dead back to life." She said, making you gasp. Your hands began to shake as you recalled Ace's words. He was saved by someone back there. "With an ability like this, the Marines thought my purpose was to bring Roger back. What they didn't know was that it was impossible for me to do something like that from the start."
"W-what do you mean?" You hesitantly asked. If what she was saying is true, it means that Ace might of been saved by...
"I can only manipulate energy around me. In order to 'bring someone back to life' the person still needed to have very little energy left in them. Of course, by a doctor, the person would be already declared dead, but I was able to manipulate their energy in order to remain alive. But in order to do this extreme, there are some downhills to this. This is why I didn't brought Roger back to life in the first place."
"Downhill?"
"Yes. In order to bring someone back to life, I had to give up my devil fruit power."
"But why are you... Speaking in the past-tense?" You gulped.
"I already used that power. I am no longer a devil fruit user." She answered.
You immediately stood up and looked at her with eyes wide open.
"So that means-?!"
"Yes. I brought Ace back to life..."

Damn, it took me a while to write this >.< I wasn't sure how I wanted the story to progress but it's ok cause now I have a nice idea how things are going to be from here on out.
I wouldn't rest easy just because Ace is back. You never know what could happen. :)
Not all stories have a happy ending.
