Chapter 5 - Mother?
Yesterday was a total rollercoaster ride for you at an emotional scale. From finding out your name to feeling the baby kick and move for the first time, you felt that your sanity was slowly started to come back to normal.
Going through traumatic experiences (which you cannot remember) left you a scar on your mind, which was still making itself present up to this day. Although you have forgotten what happened to you, you were sure that if you want to heal that scar, all you needed to do was to remember.
Through out the night, you did not closed one eye. You were too happy and excited to go to sleep. You could not wait until George finds out about this. But you did realised that even if the baby is developing just fine, you're still open to the risk of having a premature birth which can endanger both yours and your baby's life.
Since it was the start of your forth month, you already knew that you might feel some movements however, you had never thought that it would happen so soon.
Walking towards the kitchen, you gave Atsuko a big smile. She gave you a nice and welcoming 'Good morning' where which you replied the same. Sitting down at the table, you found it really hard to keep silence about what just happened.
"So, last night something amazing happened." You started. Atsuko was just finishing frying the eggs. She placed two eggs on your plate and then stopped. "Well I woke up to get a glass of water and the baby kicked!" You finished. Her eyes widened.
"Oh, (Name)..." She said as she pulled you in for a hug. But that's when you stopped your actions and pulled away from her immediately.
You looked confused at her. "Where did you learned my name?" You asked as you furrowed your eyes. "Ah... Well you see..." She stopped in the middle of the sentence, trying to somehow avoid to tell the truth. But both of you already knew; it was already too late to hide the truth.
"Atsuko... Where did you find out my name?" You asked again. Atsuko sighed and sat down on one of the chairs. She gestured to you to sit down as well. "Did you saw the bounty poster or something?" You asked quietly. "No." She answered. That's when your heart sank. She knew the entire time your name but she didn't said anything?!
"I am very sorry that I had hidden the truth from you all this time. I truly apologize for that but I did it to protect you." She started while you stayed quiet. "Let me introduce myself again. My name is Atsuko D. (L/N). I was a crew member of Gol D. Roger himself years ago. But I am also a mother. A mother to a daughter named (F/N) D. (L/N)." She finished.
You looked at her in shock. Were you supposed to believe this? After lying to you, you were supposed to trust her just like that? You mother is dead! Your eyes widened at your sudden thought.
"My mother is dead. Even if you are my mother, I do believe you would've said something up until this moment. Why is it that you kept silence all this time?" You asked as you crossed your arms. "Yes, indeed. I should've spoke up about sooner. You probably think I'm lying but I am not. I want you to trust me for now. I am your only chance to get out of this island safe and sound." She stated.
Hesitantly, you gave her a small nod. "Listen, (Name). Do you remember how I died?" She asked. You slowly shook your head no. "I see... Your father came to the island where I was hiding you, and me actually, for one purpose." She started. "To kill you?" You interrupted. "No." She replied.
She shifted a little in her chair before she continued. "Once he found out where we were living at that time, I made him promise to protect his own daughter once I'll be gone... You."
She took a deep breath before she continued. "The story between me and your father goes way back. We were born on the same island. Our families were close friends, while we were more like rivals. He aspired to become a marine while I aspired to become a pirate." She chuckled a little. "He was a kind boy back then with a bright smile. But everything changed once Roger asked me to join his crew. I guess Sakazuki felt betrayed when I left the island, leaving my family and him behind."
You gasped as you heard the name of your father. "Sakazuki? As in Akainu, the Fleet Admiral?" You asked her. She furrowed her brows. "He became the Fleet Admiral? That's some troubling news..." She paused for a moment. "We always fought when we would meet. But on that day, when Roger was executed, that's when things changed. We made up. We decided to hide for a while... We were planning to get married as well."
"What happened?" You asked. "Sakazuki was still a marine. He still had a duty to fulfill. But two years after Roger was executed, I got pregnant with you. It was an unfortunate timing. Even though the Marines said that they had killed alongside Roger, his crew, they began to search for any possible 'survivors'."
"Me being pregnant exposed me to a greater danger. However, once Sakazuki found out he wasn't overjoyed by the big news as I was. I decided that it was time to separate ways once more, after we got into a big fight on night. While I was gone, Sakazuki became an Admiral and then, it wasn't long until he found my current location."
"It was almost the time to give birth as well. Thinking that he came to put be behind bars, I pleaded him to wait until at least you were born. Fortunately, he only came to warn me about Navy's intentions. Coming to an agreement with him, we decided that the only way we could protect you was cutting your ties with me..."
Atsuko began to drink a little water before she continued. "I was able to get six more years with you... I wanted to see you grow up more than ever, however, me being near you would only endanger you. When Akainu finally came after me, he administrated me a drug instead of killing me."
"This drug... made me forget everything about who I was. Ever since then, I lived my life here, in this quiet house. The last thing I made Sakazuki promise was that he would protect you, even if you will end up becoming a pirate. However, the power only gave him pride and made him more selfish than he was."
"Then, after living a peaceful life here, not knowing I had a daughter, I found you on the shore. Something inside of me screamed at me to help you immediately. But that very night, when you woke up and I saw your eyes, I finally remembered who I was. I was finally able to remember everything that happened." She finished.
You were taken a little bit by surprise. Of course, her story seemed to be convincing enough, but was it the truth? Could this woman can actually be your mother?
"(Name)?" She called your name quietly. You quickly stood up and walked towards the door. "I need fresh air." You said before closing the door behind you.
Was Atsuko really your mother?
